Hey all,
Today I started the process of installing Froyo after receiving the prompt that it was ready to install. It seemingly went smoothly enough in the beginning, showing the normal download and install screen that I expected. HOWEVER, this is where things started to break down. After the update went through, the phone hung at the boot screen (Motorola Logo) and didn't go any further for several hours. Eventually I tried killing power to the phone and restarting it to no avail. I have since tried to manually reapply the patch through recovery mode, and it won't pass. Here's my output:
Code:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/lib/libdbus.so", "f78bf4efbf78f54693ee5200e1d376a473915560", "a73cb639fcab1c54cdbf584d7512a3a1353a0a8f")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
From what the output looks like, it seems like the error is in the update.zip file that I have, but that seems unlikely. I downloaded the update from a few different locations and they had the same hash values, leading me to believe it's legitimate.
From here, I'm asking what the problem looks like, what my options are, and how I can get my phone back up and running.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Google Droid sbf.file and flash with rsd lite. That should put you back to like new 2.1

Droid, and uh, my house?
Hi. Did u ever have any luck fixing it.

I'm working on it presently, actually. Is there any way to get my important data off of it before I wipe it? I had a lot of things that weren't stored on the SD card that I'd still like to keep.
Not sure. What things r u talking about?

I have notes and the like that were put onto the phone memory itself, and aren't saved on my SD card. Is there any way to access them if the phone won't boot?
Not 100% sure, but I believe as long as u don't wipe cache or factory reset the sbf. Just replaces the system.

Instead of re-flashing 2.1, I flashed the new 2.2, and I'm all set! Thanks!
How you liking the 2.2. Is it faster. I've never tried it stock. I was always overclocked at least 1ghz.

Hello, this is my first post ever. I'm usually very good with phones, but this is my first Android device, and I'm sort of confused about it.
So I just received a stock unlocked Rogers HTC Dream today. I put in my SIM, started the phone, pressed on the little green android, and set up everything. It was going smoothly until I reached Date & time settings. This window pops up:
Sorry!
The application Settings
(process com.android.settings)
has stopped unexpectedly.
Please try again.
So I force close, and that's as far as I get. I'm not sure what to do, or how to make it NOT do this. I can't even make calls on it.
Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.
you gotta re do it over your self. GO HERE and this should get you set up. good luck. hope the link helps.
Okay, I tried to apply sdcard:update.zip and I got this error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0
p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
Any ideas? I can't get it to take the original SPL (though it should be stock since its only unlocked).
Also, when I install the RC29, it does nothing. I still get the same error and force close...
UPDATE:
Ugh, after hours upon hours (I'm talking over 12), I figured it out. Apparently I had to update it on Rogers website, but now I'm stuck with a PerfectSPL. BUT. My phone works. Thank the freakin' maker.
I'm running Modaco's Froyo FRF91 on my Nexus one. The recovery is Amon-RA's v.1.7.0.1 - the latest.
I tried eViL D's latest Froyo ROM and it was awesome except I had no phone. Just data. Time to wipe and restore.
I did a full wipe, including ext + repair and when I tried to do a Nandroid restore, I got the "nandroid-mobile.sh" via ADB message.
For some reason ADB wouldn't see my phone.....I had updated the udev for the N1, restarted udev and no luck. Tried as root. No luck. Just "????????? No permissions"
OK....whatever.
So still in recovery, I moved the recovery log to my sdcard....to keep it....and tried the restore again - just for the hell of it - and it worked fine the second time. No error message.
I don't know if moving the recovery log to SD had anything to do with it....but that's the way it went for me today.
All good...but not knowing why.
After the re-boot into my restored system, ADB could see the phone just fine, listing it's device ID.
Again...no idea why.
I hate it when stuff works just after you needed it....and you don't know why.
Has anyone else seen this? Just try it again and it works?
try removing spaces from the directory name of the anndroid backup.
If you actually search the forum for that error message, you'll find plenty of info and reasons why it happens, The most common being your battery was too low when you tried to restore. Charged it up and then it works.
When I've gotten that error, running an error scan on the sd card fixed the issue.

I have had my Nook Color rooted for about 3 weeks and have been enjoying it.
But today things started to mess up.... A LOT.
I use my Nook Color in school for reading books and playing Angry Birds when the teacher's not looking, and throughout the day the UI was getting more and more sluggish.
And so, a few hours ago I decided to turn it off and then back on.
After it cut off I let it sit for about 10 mins before trying to boot it back up.
Now, for some reason it just wouldnt.
After fiddling with it a bit I discovered that if I took the SD card out then it would power up, but then freeze at the "touch the future of reading" screen.
But if I put the SD card in and hooked the machine up to my computer it froze at the "n" screen.
Knowing that I probably needed to do the factory reset I plugged it in and turned it off 8 times and that got me to be able to open Clockworld Recovery v3.0.0.5
I scrolled down to the "wipe data/factory reset" option.
Here is what i got:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure...
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
Error mounting /sdcard/ .android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Even after the factory reset or whatever that was it still wont boot all the way up.
So yeah... Is there anything I can do to save my Nook Color? Or is it ruined?
Back up the data on your SD and format it.
If you can still get into CWR, that means you can use adb. Try my method to restore to stock without adb by flashing a zip or snowfox's method with dd and boot img. Both threads are in dev.

Oddly enough a similar thing happened to me while searching and watching Youtube videos.
The longer I searched and watched videos the slower the whole thing got.
Eventually I got a black unresponsive screen.
After I was able to get back to task killer and killed everything, it still made no difference, the entire tablet was so slow it was unusable.
Did a restart and then the touch screen no longer worked.
Did another restart and everything is working fine again so far.
Not as bad as your situation, but it seems like there is a memory leak somewhere..
I powered it up this morning and left in on while I was at school all day, and it still says "Touch the Future of reading"
I'm getting depressed.
***UPDATE***
Thanks at all of you who are trying to help, but now it wont even boot up past the "Touch the Future of Reading" screen.
Also, when I hook it up to my PC it does this:
When SD is removed:
It says "new hardware found" and Then it says "Found new hardware" "RDNIS/Ethernet Gadget"
If I go to My Computer it shows no new drives.
Can anyone explain this?
I have discovered that if I plug it in without the SD card in, let the computer say "found new hardware", then hold power and the n button for about 15-20 seconds it boots to the n logo screen but then just sits there. My PC also recognizes 2 new drives "Removable Disk I:" and "Removeable Disk J:" but when I try to open them it says "Please insert a disk into drive I: or J:" At least now I have access to some drives, anyone know where to go from here??

I'm not exactly 100 percent positive on this but It's supposed to wipe itself back to stock on the 8th failed boot. Have you tried it eight times yet?

It won't with Clockwork installed. I would try the restore image from the developers forum
This happened to me and this is what I did.
My NC was also getting stuck on the touch the future or reading screen. I tried rebooting it several times and it still didn't work. However, I did do this and it worked so give it a try:
1. Make sure your NC is off.
2. Plug it into a computer.
3. Hold down the n and the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. When the ghetto menu shows up, select the first option to reboot.
5. Wait a while for it to boot. It will stay at the touch the future of reading screen for a while, but don't give up; it will boot up fully.
6. Try again if it stays at the touch the future screen for more than 1 minute.
7. If it still doesn't work. try something else
I did this before doing anything more dramatic and it booted right up.
Thanks zen5200 - those steps worked perfectly for me.
Time for some words of wisdom:
If you can't fix something your messing with, then don't mess with it.
I'm writing this becuase i recently had trouble following other guides rooting my Bell and Virgin (canada) htc Legend with 2.1 on it (2.2 is out here yet)
First follow this guide
[HOWTO] DOWNGRADE to 1.31 which you can then root for Legend 2.1

(By now your should have adb set up and your gold card)
If it dosnt downgrade and shows that it fails its okay just move on
After following downgrade guide and it failing install temp root
the best way is to get the apk is to go to this link in the android browser
goo.gl/TcP1o <---Download link to visionary apk
In the web browser open downloads and install the visionary apk
Then connect your phone to your computer open cmd.exe and via adb get root
with cmd.exe
go
Code:
cd c:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\
for me adb is under platform tools, if you dont update the sdk it is under just tools
then
Code:
adb shell
a # should be at the bottom line, then type in
Code:
su
This gets you root, if it says denied run the visionary app and try again, then
Code:
/data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img
Then for the actual root
Flash the Rooted ROM1. Download the Rooting Tools
Legend Rooting Tools:
2. Unzip them to the C: drive on your computer (so the file path is C:\r4-legend-root\)
3. Turn off your phone and turn it back on by holding down Back and Power until you see Fastboot come up on the screen. Push the Power button while highlighting Fastboot on the phone and Fastboot should show up in red now on the phone (if it doesn’t push Power again until it does).
4. Plug the phone in via USB cable to the computer.
5. Open the folder you extracted to the C drive and double click “step1-windows.bat” and wait for it to finish.
6. Once you see the menu on the phone come back up, navigate to BOOTLOADER and push power, then navigate to RECOVERY using the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select and the phone should boot to the ! screen.
7. Now on the computer double click the “step2-windows.bat” file and wait for it to finish. (UPDATE 12.13.10 – You MUST have HTC Sync version 2.0.33 not a newer version for step2 to work. Please uninstall HTC Sync and download and install this version instead, unplug then plug your phone back in, then rerun step2-windows.bat).
8. Now you should see a custom recovery screen, using the optical trackpad navigate to Wipe and push on the trackpad to select it. Then navigate to Wipe data/factory reset and select that.
9. Once that is done, push volume down to go back to the main menu and select Flash zip from sdcard and select the rootedupdate.zip file and wait for it to flash. All done, you have root access and can use any root required app! Enjoy!

Hello, Having some trouble here.
I got to the step where you run the Step1 batch file from windows. The cmd prompt comes up and says "erasing cache....." then sits. a few minutes later. i get
"FAILED <status read failed <unknown error>>
< Waiting for device>
During the erasing cache part, my phone had the boot menu on screen with no response from the controls. Also, a little green status bar was at 90%. (Second thought, that may be battery level. not sure. Confirm?)
Yeah, so, can't get step1 to work.
EDIT: ok. got step 1 and 2 to work. I basically just kept trying over and over and it went through.
So, i got to the custom boot menu. But i try to install update.zip from sd. But i get an error.
It says.
Installation aborted.
--wiping data...

formatting cache...
data wipe complete.
--install from sdcard
finding update package
opening update packing verifying update package.
E: failed to open /sdcard/update.
zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted.
So, wtf did i do wrong? now my phone is completely wiped, so.... now what?

k after i finally succeeded to downgrade (thinkin that the hard part is done!!!!), but i cant get past step 1, i keep gettin either "waiting for device", or htc black screen, or nothing happens. step 2 is even worse, all i get is "device not found", or loads of "FAILED". ive reinstalled htc sync 2, uninstalled htc drivers.
i think it seems that my computer is not recognising the phone as an android device, cos everytime i connect it, win7 seems to automatically install drivers (nd i cant stop that) and recognises it as HTC ANdroid Device (it appears as a "Disk Drive")..... tried to use htc sync, phone keeps searching nd it fails.. help please i cant use my phone

You need HTCsync 2 only for step2, to step1 you need the most updated HTCsync.
And you need step1, don't ignore that step just because it's not working.
Install the latest HTCsync, connect your phone to the computer, and put the phone on fastboot mode (should be written "fastboot usb" on phone)
now on the computer, in the folder of the rooting tools, write:
fastboot-windows.exe devices
Does it recognize your phone? (Should output details bout the phone including serial I think)
wel ive done step 1 now. i created a thread for this here..

what hboot do you have on/ do you have android 2.2 on it?
Hello All,
I have been in and out of every Dev and General forum about installing the CWM on Z8. Unfortunately I have yet to find a solid solution to the below errors when using MTM's ZV8CWMRecovery bat. I would be posting in related thread on the dev site, but I don't have enough posts to post in there. So far I have seen multiple users with this problem:

CWM Recovery!!!
Press any key to continue . . .
I have only seen a couple answers to this that actually address the error messages. One being to manually copy the local.prop into the data folder. I have tried taking the local.prop file and moving it to /data but when I do I get the error message on my phone saying java.io.filenotfoundexception:/data/local.prop (permission denied).
I feel that this has something to do with Superuser mainly because when I have tried to use other methods like using quick boot or Rom Manager to boot into recovery, I get messages saying that Super User has denied access.
1) Is anyone else having similar Super User problems when they get the CWM installation error above?
2) Can anyone think of a correlation bewtween the super User error and the CWM installation errors?
3) Can anyone give any usefull insight into what these mean?
rm failed for /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, Read-only file system
rm failed for /system/recovery-from-boot.p, Read-only file system
rm failed for /data/local.prop, No such file or directory
Any support is much appreciated.

I will let you know.
OK, I have decided that my main problem right now is that SuperUser is denying access to every program that could help me (Quick boot, Rom Manager, Terminal emulator). Every time I try and run any of those I get a message saying it was blocked by SU. I have set SU to allow all requests, yet it still Denies access?
Anyone with Ideas on how to stop this without starting from scratch?

Sounds like the phone did not root properly. I had that problem before where i had superuser but no root access to anything. My solution was starting over from scratch, im not sure how to do it w/o starting over. If you have everything on the computer already then starting over should only take 15 mins or so. For me thats how long it took after i had all downloads and installs in place
