Bootscreen Request - Droid 2 - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

Hey all,
I have the Droid1 boot animation running on my hero. it was one that was created for a phone with a lot lower res than the hero (as the original is way too high for it to handle properly). Was hoping someone can advise how to resize/refit the official droid2 bootscreen to the hero.
Thanks guys.

is it in bootanimation.zip?
EDIT: Here you go, i think its the right one!
http://www.multiupload.com/MTJSOQLQQQ
I edited desc.txt in wordpad to change the resolution (originally 480x480) to 320x320 then saved the bootanimation.zip compression as STORE,normal and such like will not work you will get a blank screen

yeah, thats the original droid bootscreen loop - i quite like it, but want to see about putting the new droid2 one on.

if you post it i will do it for you?i dont have a clue what the new one is

here is the newest one.taken from skyraiders rom

awesome! Thanks so very much! Works like a treat!

[BOOTSCREEN] Nexus Bootscreen

the animated bootscreen from the htc nexus, as seen in this video.
it is rotated to portrait and shown in fullscreen. this was requested in this thread.
download the bootscreen and apply as update.zip with recovery image.
if want to go back to stock look here.
Checking it out:
Edit:
Works nicely, comes up instead of HTC after the Hero screen. Slightly pixelly but other than that, is good! Nice one!
Just tested it, and i really like it
Nice one Loving it
Nice work bro, added it for my next release of HERO21-1.7, I make sure to leave creds for your work in my OP
Wicked. I just booted the phone 3 times to see the wonderful bootscreen. Hypnotic.

wow, thanks
i tried to make it that first the hero with the two nandroids appear, then the looping nexus screen. didn't work out as i couldn't align the pictures correctly, but i'll be working on that, maybe i can figure it out on friday (gonna have a hangover, tomorrow is the company christmas party ). i like the hero animation with the sound (only the two short android noises, not the htc noise) and the phone is still the hero. also goes great with the original splash screen. i'll let you know if i can make it in time for your 1.7 release, will be an exclusive first then drop me a pm if you have an eta yet, i won't tell anybody

1.7 is released and the bootscreen u made really gave a beauty enhancement. Been reading alot about the bootanimations and figured out that 2.0 does support the droid and nexus type of boot.img, just need to resize all the pngs in bootscreen.zip and change settings in the file in that zip and then finally add the bootanimation binary from nexus. Just didnt have the time to do it, gonna add that later for 1.8 release if people want
Is it possible for me to add this to a stock Sprint Hero? If so, can I choose to replace the Sprint animation w/ the Nexus Bootscreen.
Thanks.
guys.. any idea if it possible to run these bootanimations in Eclair AOSP? becuase AOSP roms dont use animated gif rather use 2 single png files which give a animation sort of feeling not original animation. cheers

yeah i have read what behnaam said. thing is that he is talking about 2.1 series not AOSP series. he meant that he will make his next 2.1 release such that it will support the bootanimation.zip file which contains 2 animation file and 1 plays after another like FLAN (nexus). he dint say that he will make AOSP like that.
so i want to know if it is possible to make AOSP to support playing animated gif file as bootanimation.
cheers

Boot animations

I'd like to start making some boot animations. Since I have a bit of animation experience and I don't really like any of the ones that I've found.
Once I get started I'll start posting them here for you all to use.
I have a just a few questions before I get started.
First of all I'm assuming it has to be the proper resolution and I believe they need to be gif files.
Is there anything else that I need to know? I've read a few threads and saw that some people had trouble getting them to boot for some reason or another. So is there anything else that I need to look out for?
Thanksss.

From what I recall, different phones don't necessarily keep the boot animation file(s) in the same place. AFAIK, that's the only real issue other than that you would have to provide different resolution versions if you want your boot animation to be usable on different phones. IMHO, I would just make it for the Eris first and if there's a demand for specific other phones/resolutions, then cross that bridge since there's no use doing work that's not needed yet.
You might end up tweaking the animation too, so you might as well "beta test" it only on the Eris to begin with for that reason, too.
Sorry if I'm ranting, I'm really really tired so I'm extra silly. LOL.
I don't think they use GIFs. I think they use a sequence of JPGs (completely up to you how many frames. Normally I could double check on my phone but I can't at the moment but I'm sure you could find the info somewhere in here.
I hope I'm not misleading you about JPG versus GIF; take it with a grain of salt since as I mentioned I'm tired. Good luck!

I could be wrong but I thought they were png files in the boot animation. I'm pretty sure that it's usually located in /system/media but I thought I read at one time that they can sometimes be located in data also. Good luck with the work though. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
you can use either one, gif or .png... use png for better quality (if using photoshop, save as for web, then use png-24 option and save.
also, make sure you don't compress the zip at all when you package it. Use the option "store" to zip the files up using no compression. If you compress it, it won't be accessible during boot and you'll have a black screen.
The bootanimation should go in data/local
here is my red cyanogen bootanimation zip, feel free to pack your own bootanimation into it, then sign it and it'll be flashable in recovery.
remember: the bootanimation.zip cannot be compressed... the flashable zip CAN be compressed.
Good luck! Hope to see something cool soon.
WOW i wasn't really expecting that much feedback. thanks a lot guys. i'll start playing around with this stuff as soon as finals week is over! :X thanks again!

edit: I'm already bouncing around a few ideas in my head. I don't think I'll be able to get around to it until tuesday at the earliest though.
Also if you guys have any requests, my animation experience is somewhat limited but I'm willing to try anything!

Just to be clear for anyone else that reads this... if you're cooking your own rom, you'd want it there in system/media ... if you're making a flashable zip you'd want it to go into data/local

I have a .gif file that I would like to make my boot animation ... can someone tell me what or where it needs to go, please ?
Does it need to be signed and zipped or can it just be placed in system/media or .... what ?
Sorry if this elementary .... never messed with boot ani's before, just stuck with the ROM boot ani.
>> just tried a RedCMbootanimation.zip .... placed it in system/media (removing the ROM's bootanimation.zip > Nonsensikal 15.2 blue CM boot ani) ... renamed it the same as the boot ani I replaced (bootanimation.zip) ... no worky ... just a black screen ... is it b/c the zip file is compressed ? D
>> Also tried to put my gif. img there ... got a standard 'android' boot img.
>> Do I need to open the ROM boot ani .zip file in AC/adb and replace something in there ?

It needs to be made into a zip named bootanimation.zip and not compressed and pushed to data/local. the redcmbootanimation is flashable from recovery.
Alright guys so i've made my first animation just to kind of test the waters. Definately not something I'd release on here quite yet.
The issue I'm having is that it is going at a very slow frame rate. What can be done about that?

try editing the desc.txt framerate. that's the number right after the resolution (ie. 320 480 15) the bold number is the framerate, try upping that, but I wouldn't go any higher than 25.
Good luck, hope to see it soon

Thanks dude. Yeah I actually figured that out. What I actually did was i changed the framerate of the boot animation it's self because naturally I just set it to 29.97 since that's standard ntsc. so i changed that to 24 so it matched the desc.txt and i saw a slight increase in speed. I'm gonna play around with it a little more, maybe make the frame rate of the animation it's self even lower and see if i can get higher speeds. Hopefully without losing too much quality though.
Also, I read somewhere that if you use a smaller resolution it will go faster. So i'll give that a shot as well.

Yeah, you can make it 320 x 320 like the cyanogenmod bootanimation, just make it's background black. That's why theirs runs nice, it's 320 x 320 -vs- 320 x 480
downloaded the zip, thanks mate

[Q] Hero splash screen

I have question can the hero's old 1.6 splash screen be transferred to hd2. It's the one with hero logo and small android poking out from the sides.
it has been done before when the first android sense builds were out
This would be nice to have, If noone has done it before I get home then I'll make a CWM zip for it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I've attached an incomplete zip for anyone else who is capable of building the rest.
The frames are all there but it needs to be renamed (boot_0000*) before it can be placed in /system/media/bootanimation.zip.
Here's a guide if you'd like to try.
PS: Sound is there too.
oh my, remembering that old logo just made me all nostalgic inside. i miss those good old days flashing mlign hero roms on my dream...

[Boot Animation] 3D Bee port

Hello everyone,
I found this boot animation here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/21/download-honeycomb-bee-3d-boot-animation/
It links back to xda here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000311
I couldn't find an optimized version for tablets.
So here it is.
I take absolutely no credit for anything!
All props go to danmcq !!!
All I did was take the images in the original bootanimation and make the canvas (image size) 1280x800 instead of the originals which were 480x854.
Then modified the little config file.
Tested on my Xoom running Tiamat 2.0.1 with Tachi kernel.
Works great.
Only thing that bothers me is that the original background was not truly black; it's a couple shades lighter...so the background appears a little washed out (like you have the brightness on super high).
do you need to be rooted to install this?
(sorry haven't really read up much on the xoom)
yes you do. file goes in /system/media so you need root access.
to the OP: tested the animation. looks beautiful but loads a little slowly (i'm O'C'd to 1.6ghz). very sharp graphics though. I still prefer to the flying bee animation I worked on but i'm keeping this one for the future
Looks good and run as well, great share thx.
you can also put the bootanimation.zip file in the data/local folder, then it will not overwrite the stock bootanimation.

I'm working on it now, give me about an hour...i'll test it too.
Longest part is downloading and reinstalling flash, i've already dissected the swf file into images and

For some reason when I break it up the animation gets stupid when the Transformer builds, it's like it's
not even include in the movie...but I know it is.
I'll be happy if you get it ported successfully

I am new to this stuff and recently jave rooted my phone and have learned how to put boot animations on. However i am trying to get this one on my phone and it works but its too big and i have tried adjusting the size in the desc.txt but then the animation no longer works. Can someone please help me convert it so it fits my mytouch 3g slide. 320x480
Just wanted to say thanks for this awesome Boot Animation. Absolutely love it.
this is simply beautiful. i like the fact of nothing getting officially overwritten so it accounts for a safe/fast add or delete with no problems. A+
