Notification bar - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I am running pl3x ROM and was hoping that someone could make a flashable version of the notification bar in the Evo theme made by manup456 that I could apply to my phone.

Google is your best friend...
Unzip the themed *.apk and insert the images you want into your zipped up *.apk. (An *.apk file is just a compressed file... you can just rename to *.zip to unzip.) Then just push your themed *.apk back into /system/app... or /system/framework for framework-res.apk, where the status bar image is located. Good luck.
GOOGLE SEARCH!!!!

(And since you were talking about making a ROM... this should be a ridiculously easy first step. If not, then....... Google Search and read up.)

Music Player colors

Ok, so this hasn't really been a problem for me before since I couldn't use the samsung music player at all since it wouldn't sort by artist. However, now that I'm using JM6, it is letting me sort by artist. I really like the widget on the lock screen and on the pull down notification bar, so I'd like to use music player of Mixzing.
The problem is, on both of the widgets the background is an ugly purple color. Why would they do this? Ew. Is there any way to change the background color of these widgets? If I could do that, I would be as close to 100% happy with this phone that I've ever been.
Edit: Nevermind. I got it.
Care to share what you did? I didn't see anything in the settings. My ultimate goal would be to have the widget with a transparent background.

You could do that. The files you need to change are located in the twframework and framework apk's. They are in system/framework, but I just used the twframework file from here. I don't remember the names of the files I changed (sorry). I just searched for music or background or bg in the drawable-hdpi folder of the apk's and when I found the ones I wanted to change, (really the only purple ones) I changed the color to something else. To make it transparent just replace the file (keep the same name) with a transparent .png file.
The twframework file can just be edited and then copied back over the original, but the framework apk caused a lot of force closes on me when I tried that. So I just edited the files inside the circle clock.zip file and then ran the .zip file and it applied the changes for me without any problems.
I also changed the ugly pink icon to something that looks like a real cd in the background with an orange music note on top. Looks a billion times better.
I apologize that I can't be more technical with you, if you have any questions about anything shoot me a pm or post it up here.

Strange, I couldn't get this to work...here are the steps i took:
Used adb push to get the twframework-res.apk file to my PC.
Used APK Manager to unzip the APK.
Modified the purple background file (quick_panel_music_bg.9.png) to be transparent.
Used APK Manager to zip the APK using the new PNG file. (I only Zipped the APK, I did not sign it since it was a system APK and did not Zipalign it)
Dropped the APK on the root of my sdcard.
Used Busybox to copy it over the existing APK.
Rebooted.
Any ideas why this wouldn't work? I tried twice, both times the background is still purple.
Hmmm, I went back and looked at the framework-res.apk and noticed i missed a file in there with purple background, so i edited that PNG file, then used APK Manager to zip and then ADB to copy over the original.
Now my phone will boot only to the Galaxy S boot screen, then just goes black. Looks like I will need to adb the backup files back onto the phone. Can you explain how you did this using an update.zip file. That seems like maybe an easier route.
when changing the twframework file I used 7zip to open the archive without ever unzipping the file. I dragged the already edited png files into the correct directory to replace the purple ones.
For the update.zip I downloaded the .zip file for thecircle battery mod. I then put the updated png files that I wanted to replace using 7 zip again. I ran the update.zip file and everything worked.
If you are able to use metamorph (using older su version) you can download the simplistic theme, replace the res files with the ones from the stock apks then apply them in metamorph.

[Q] creating task bar

how would i edit the task bar in asopmod rom i searched through google i found nothing can someone plz help
First you need to read up on theming but in short all those png's reside in the system/framework/framework-res.apk. In that apk if you goto res/drawable-hdpi folder you'll see all of the png's that make up the task bar.
You'll need apkManager and a paint program.
Simmons - I was trying to do something similar but was having no luck -
I wanted to pull the 4G icons out of an Evo rom and put them in place of the 3G icons on CM6 - i thought it would be a riot -
I extracted the 4G's and renamed them to their 3G counterparts names and have them saved on my desktop - but I dont know the right way to extract framework-res.apk, then put in my new icons, then, and probably most importantly, zip it back up so it will flash right !
any thoughts?
Simple how to theme.

heres the How to
An apk is really just a zip file... apk stands for android package (if i remember correctly). So treat it like a standard zip file.
You'll need apk manager this will allow you to sign zips which makes them flashable. get that here
Now get your favorite Rom and make a folder. In that folder make 2 folders one called packed the other called packed. Take your rom and unzip it in the unpacked folder. and then take the original zip and move it to the packed folder.
Next go into the unpacked folder and nav to system/framework.framework-res.apk take this apk and unzip it in this folder and then make a copy of the apk and move the copy to the packed folder.
Now when you want to make a change to the framework-res.apk use the unpacked as a reference. us the packed as the change dir, you do this by opening but not unzipping the apk you want to change and just dragging the files you are replacing into the apk, this will replace them. You might want to make a a 3rd folder sorta of a master copy if you ever mess up the packed roms.
Now that you have an altered framework-res.apk you can just push it to system/framework folder (i think) and reboot and your changes are in. I never do this since flashable is easier to manage I make a flashable.
A flashable is like a but allot smaller, so d/l one of my themes and take the zip file and place in in a folder next to the packed and unpacked folder call it something like staging. now unzip apk manager into the top dir next to 3 other folders you just made.
Now my theme zip can be renamed to whatever you want your going to use it as a place holder for signing flashable zips. go into the theme zip and delete ever thing in the system folder except the framework folder then go into the frame work folder and delete everything.
Your flashable zip folder should only have a a meta-inf folder and a system folder, the system folder should only have a framework folder. Now drag your altered framework-res.apk into the flashable zip folder you just cleaned out.
Ok now you have to sign it copy that flashable zip to the place-apk-here-for-signing folder, this should have shown up when you unzipped apk manager into the folder the also contains unpacked and packed folders.
Now click on the script.bat and you'll see a bunch of option you can do option 16 to sign your zip. it takes a second or two and the date should get updated on the flashable.zip file in the place-apk-here-for-signing folder.
Now you have your new them ready to install. if your changing something else find the apk and replace framework-res.apk in these instruction and it works the same. note that most app reside in system/app so you next to take that into account.
Edit: Maybe I should have made a new thread.
creating task bar

[REQ] Captivate Stock AT&T Theme

I would like to flash a new ROM but i like the stock captivate theme the best.
is there any update.zip packages of the default theme floating around? i want to wait until i know i can do it before i flash. Also, is there any way to "rip" the theme from my ROM? because then i can just do that
I posted a request for this a few weeks back and got really no help.... What I did was unzip the framework.apk's from the theme I wanted and from the JH7_OTA that's floating around here somewhere and compared the images in the drawbale-hdpi folder. I think there are some files in tw-framework.apk that need to be changed if you want to change the pull down menu.
Hope this helps
The themes are mostly inside framework-res.apk, which is very ROM-specific. You can't just install them randomly inside one another.
If you'd like to port a theme, you can either replace the image files using 7-zip, WinRAR, etc. or decompile the .apk using APK Manager for more extensive changes (things like battery mods, etc.).

what he said ^^^^
but as a beginner's guide, you will need to pull your FRAMEWORK-RES.APK and TWFRAMEWORK-RES.APK from /system/framework folder
For this, you will need to use either ADB or an app like ASTRO or ROOTEXPLORER
when you copy these two apk's to your computer, you will need to open it up (NOT extract it) and simply replace the images inside with those from a stock FRAMEWORK-RES.APK & TWFRAMEWORK-RES.APK
The images you want to change are going to be in res/drawable-hdpi folder
Don't just replace everything, you will need to see which one's are different.. if there is something you want to change and don't know what .png file it is, just post it back up here and I will help you out

[Q] Assonance theme in other ROMs?

Is it possible? I love the theme. Particularly in the notification pull-down thing with the wifi icons and such.
They are just png images in the framework. Depending on what other rom you are wanting to use it on you may be able to just swap out the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk in /system/app. Otherwise you can just move the images into the new rom framework files (the ones used are in /res/drawable-hdpi usually). You might be interested in learning to create metamorph zip files as well.
Thank you. However, I extracted the framework-res.apk and I have found some image files, but I see none that are pull-down icons like the GPS, Wifi, Auto-rotate icons. Any help?
Not sure what you mean by metamorph.
Because they're not there.
They're in twframework-res.apk. And you have to edit the status_bar_expanded.xml to get rid of the text.
It is essentially "Gingerbread" with some minor tweaks.
The only issue you might have is when you copy all of the images out of the framework-res.apk -> drawable-hdpl folder that your menu buttons might be a little off. Unless you start out with a Dark theme that has already adjusted the menu to have a black background and white text...
I think there is a Gingerbread theme in the Theme/App forum that would be close to what your looking for.
I was trying to do a MetaMorph for this type of theme but I could never get the *.xml edits needed to overwrite using MetaMorph correctly. (Check the Q&A Sticky for MetaMorph)
... It can be done but it'd be a little more complicated
Okay, I am still trying to understand. I extracted the twframework-res.apk and took out the files from the Assonance theme. I extracted the twframework-res.apk from another theme that I liked, and replaced the Assonance parts I like into it. Now, can I just zip it back up and rename it to .apk? I'm not really sure what to do now.
Thanks for your help so far!

Help! transparent notification bar captivate

I want to install the meizu theme but I'm so confused on installing the patch for the transparent bar but I'm not sure where to find the files (framework-res.apk) its talking about. I'm not sure how to install it either if I can find it. Can someone explain to me how to do this?
dude i was having the same trouble, but i read a buncha stuff and figured out how to apply the theme. but for your question, framework-res.apk is located actually ON your phone when you install the rom, it contains all the pictures and stuff for the android os, its located in the directory: /system/framework/framework-res.apk so to get if off you use adb pull, also the SystemUI.apk is located in /system/app/SystemUI.apk
