So is it possible?? If so, where can I get the .apk?? I love the Froyo roms...the speed is amazing but, I miss friendstream and just the sense look in general. Would it slow the rom down any? Has anyone tried it?
same query here
You're probably going to have to wait until HTC updates the Legend to 2.2 and someone ports it over to the Hero. I know nfinite is interested in porting it over once a ROM is released/leaked
Yeah, it's not very simple to do and Sense itself is closed source so we will almost surely have to wait until another MDPI device gets FroYo Sense.
Please also note that there is a Q&A forum for the Hero, this forum section is for actual development for the Hero.
I know it aint sense but damn look at it. This is the latest version of froyo

Just because there is Sense running on 2.2 doesn't mean it's going to be running on Hero any time soon. Sprint has said they have no plans of releasing a 2.2 update, so to get 2.2 on a Hero you're gonna need either a Cyanogen or AOSP rom. Then you've got to pull a 2.2 compatible Sense build from a phone that has the same graphic resolution as the Hero (I believe this is why everyone keeps mentioning the Legend). And THEN you've got to make the two play nice together. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, and I'm not even saying it wont be soon, I'm just saying the fact that other more modern phones are getting 2.2 Sense has very little to do with it coming to the Hero.
What I never understood is why someone just does not load the images into photoshop. Splice them together and resize the canvas to the images get smaller but proportional to themselves. Then, when you done, repackage them and bam.

Because it's not just the images are the wrong size, the framework is compiled for a different processor.
I can Photoshop anything. I'm a designer. But Photoshop doesn't give you functionality meaning just because I change dimensions or image size or even the actual data size of each image on something like friendstream, without HTC framework it will not function. I understand sense is not open source but if that was such a problem we wouldn't have things like the buffed rom. Its gotta be do-able. I'd be willing to help with the images. Sadly until next quarter that's all I'm good for

I remember when Cyanogen mod had this cool custom camera back on cupcake, with zoom. Was awesome! Then, with donut buids it was replaced by a new one, which I do not like so much. I currently use SnapShotPro, which is okay at best. I was wondering if there is a way to get that camera back on there? Thanks

Its the HTC framework, and HTC camera. It hasnt been ported to Donut, as it will most likely be HTC doing it, and they dont exactly have XDA-dev efficiency w/ updates
I second that!!
Bring back the Cyan's Old camera...I could be wrong but with this new Hero 1.6 dump that was made, the camera should be donut ready...keep your fingers crossed..

Thanks guys, I hope so. Camera Zoom FX is also pretty decent, but that one there was the best. I checked out few Hero builds from xda, few of them are really good but are not as snappy as Cyanogen/other donut builds. Guess you have to pay with performance for the looks/extra functionality.
you'll need to pull the app file for the camera, doubt cyanogen will add it as it's someone's ip like the htc keyboard.
TBH just make a diff update that applies this camera... i hate it becuase it doesnt support half shutter...
+1.. hate the fact i cant zoom on current cm builds
I doubt it. Cyanogen has stated very specifically that he wont be releasing warez or anything 'ripped' out of other builds, to keep things legal and not shady. Sorry guys, but on Cyan's builds, HTC apps are gone as is the framework, not including the HTC_IME.
I just flashed the 1.6 AOSP build and I love it; but i'd like to spice it up a little bit. My biggest issue is the lockscreen. I HATE it.
what options do I have in the themes/lockscreens department?
EDIT:
I've installed metamorph and andexplorer but i've done nothing more with it. I've watched the videos in the metamorph thread, but i'm still a touch confused. is it really CDMA/GSM/Rom agnostic? the videos and info lead me to believe that whatever phone/rom you're running doesn't matter and that you can create themes from pretty much anything...but then i see threads that say you need the cyan 2.x.x.x or some other rom that isn't available to the CDMA guys.
Can anyone shed some more light on this? can i steal pieces from the Dream roms and skin my CDMA AOSP 1.6 build with them?
im in the same boat as you. sprint htc hero, running AOSP 1.6 + Googlebits
so far ive found that metamorph is your friend for the theme department. ive used it to change a lot of things so far. i have all eclair icons, the eclair dialer, nexus launcher, and nexus power control widget... just to name a few. there are a lot of other options out there for metamorph as well if the stock look isnt what you fancy.
as far as lockscreens.... im still on the hunt. i absolutely HATE this stock lockscreen
heres some screenshots of what ive done so far to the AOSP 1.6 rom by quietcblongs

Thanks for the info!
for lock screens, I played with Lock Bot (it was an old version that i found in a seedy part of the internet) but it didn't work. I've heard that Lock 2.0 works, but I don't plan on paying $$ for a lockscreen.
here is where most of the mods i have used came from
this is also a large selection of which a lot of the morphs work.
pretty much, rom aside, if the morph is for 1.6 it will probably work. they just work based on where the applications are and what their named which should be the same across the board for 1.6
any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks man! I managed to get it skinned quite nicely. Sadly, due to unreliable SMS, I have to flash back to a 1.5 ROM

how'd you get that clock widget to work? you don't have all the sense widgets on that do you...? :OO
Ive seen the 1st Hero with real animation on the Home flip clock, I know devs took it of as a memory hogger, But I dont recall seeing the home flip clock's animation for CDMA even when I had all stock apps. I'd like to get it from GSM Hero and use it over in CDMA Hero.. if any one can get it please post apk files.
Thanks in advance.
They removed it due to the lag and battery drain the flip clock brought. I havent seen it but if I do ill post it here.
HTC removed it, not the devs here. Look for an original hero dump and pull the clock and try to replace it.

Got the same message on my G1 : (
So this is the clock/weather widget directly from HTC Sense?
Any insight on getting it working on non-Sense devices?
Why would it work on non hero roms, use some common sense here guys. It is very well documented on here that hero widgets/apps use the hero framework and there has only been one instence that meltus(?) got an application to run on the other non htc 1.5 roms.

Not everyone has that though so you cant expect them to know.if it was possible people would already be using the sense widgets on non-sense roms by now. But then again im running 1.6 hero fine on my blackberry storm with minimal lag at 400x800 res.

Animating Flip Clock Widget
I have a clock widget with a real animating flip, which does not require sense. Check my thread.

Hey one and all, I have searched the forums and was unable to find anything along the lines of what I'm looking to do. Perhaps I'm just not using the proper keywords here, or I'm simply not understanding what sense is to android. I'd be grateful if somebody could direct me in the proper direction.
I'm looking to recolor the Sense interface, I'm not talking about the android theming that's going on here (or am I?). I've rooted my phone and have been looking through a dump of the file system, but so far I've been unable to find what I'm looking for.
back back in the day, I did something similar on my organizer. The theme files where basic vector graphics I was able to edit. I have a feeling things wont be as simple here?
Am I looking at metamorph or will I be flashing the device from recovery mode? I am right to think that sense isn't simply a theme, correct?
*edit*
I've been able to just adjust the phone look, just can't find the proper archive I suppose?
Just exploring
*edit again*
/system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk <- yay, partly anyway
Htc's Sense is a UI overlay for vanilla android, found on google experience phones like G1,MT3G,etc....It's like its own theme though.
You can play with the rosie.apk. I have very little knowledge on sense otherwise I'd offer more help haha. I basically only know how to change the launcher a tiny bit
Everybody seems to want to drop back to the normal android interface the moment they're faced with HTC's sense
I actually like the interface, but haven't been able to find any information on modding it. So I suppose I'll spend my time documenting it, perhaps make a post on it when I figure things out.
If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. For now, it's back to digging through apks
most image should be in either rosie.apk or framework-res.apk. i couldnt find the images for the launcher but if i remeber correctly there was a script available quite a while ago that allowed you to change the colour of the launcher. i will keep looking for the images though.

You guys are great! I'm slowly building a template with all stock images so I have something to work with, from what I've seen we might be able to reshape things. For now, finishing the template.

Hello everyone,
since HTC One don't have SMS widget and i am missing it very much, is there any alternative which can be scrolled and looks similar?
Or is there the chance, that someone port it from earlier devices?

I think you can install the one from Sense 4.* if you have one.
Well i am sure it is not that easy, because the apk uses frameworks, which are located in other apk's.
So it have to be ported
Have you tried it already? As far as I know only sense apps and the sense clock are attached to the sense framework. Other widgets aren't.
Ok will try it and ask Whiskey
But i think it still uses HTC Framework for buttons etc.
Also it could be aproblem because old devices had lower resolution and not full HD...
Edit:
Ok don't work

Hum, as per gtalk we know it doesn't install but I might have another idea.
We'll try later
Won't work, widgets from sense 3.0 all the way to 4+ rely on m10 images in fusion.apk which does not exist in sense 5.0. Furthermore, m10 images/files have been completely removed in sense 5.0.

Lol yeah realized it after extracting the contents from the Android revolution HD thread.
I think porting the timescape widget from xperia is alot easier then. That way not only you get this cascading scrollable message widget but can also support social networks.
