Hey guys!
Just wanted to know if it's possible or okay to flash an Asian based SGS with European software...I was interested in checking out the beta releases with Froyo but they're only available as European firmware.
My phone was purchased from the US but it was apparently sourced from Singapore since it had Singtel stuff on it. I flashed it to generic Asian firmware and then updated it with Samsung KIES which gave me the Asian firmware upgrade (DXJG4) free from Singtel customizations (yay!)
And another question...which firmware do you guys recommend to stick with until Froyo is officially released? Like which firmware do you guys experience the least "black screens" or stalling/lag? I don't want to be installing random fixes just yet so I was hoping there's a firmware out there that has less or none of these issues.
Thanks in advance!

You can, just avoid the US/i9000M/i9008/Korean ROM's. But with XXJG1-JG5 roms on my singtel, I found the GPS didn't pick up a single sat.
I recommend XXJM5 currently.. GPS is usable (but still drifts, and doesn't respond when making sharp corners well), and everything which works on other roms seems to still work.
In regards to Froyo, don't bother. It's a fun play for a short time, but there are very few benefits, and plenty of serious disadvantages still (because JP1-JP3 still are in an early testing stage).
Also, it isn't known how service centres deals with flashing other regions firmware (and if they care enough to cancel warranty).
I also have an Asian SGS and im wondering if w/c is better JG5 or JM2.. Im still on our latest official firmware at JG4
can anyone share their experience of using european firmwares on asia models. i want to know too

Hi
I just bought Galaxy s
PDA:I9000XXJF3
PHONE:I9000XXJF3
CSC:I9000XENJF1
Is this good firmware ? or have there any better firmware ?
Please advise me I am a noob for Android
Thanks
Unfortunately you require the horrible Samsung Kies software (from their website) to update the phone firmware. Mine is updated to JM1 but it seems almost random as to which phones receive updates, my first UK based SGS updated, but the replacement from Portugal did not.
Hey guys, first time poster here but been lurking for a while. Need to say a big thanks for all the great work going on here.
Some background before getting to my questions:
I bought my phone while travelling on business in Sri Lanka, I believe the phone is an Indian version. The firmware it is running is DDJG4 (not sure what other info I should be including here). I am heading back to the UK next week and want to upgrade to the latest official Froyo, preferably a EU/UK version.
So, my question(s) are:
1) What version should I be looking? I have had a look around the forums and it seems the XEU variant is what I need, is this correct?
2) I have also seen that I may need to take modem firmware (?) or other regional hardware config issues into consideration when changing firmware region, what's the story with this?
3) I have been thinking about using Kies to upgrade to the latest XEU firmware using the registry hacks (ie changing the ProductCode and HIDSWVER). While I am tech savvy and have looked at the appropriate threads about using odin etc to upgrade, but honestly I don't have time for that kind of thing anymore. My question regarding Kies is: obviously I would put XEU as the ProductCode, but what would I need to put as the HIDSWVER?
Thanks
can anyone shed some light?
Since I'd rather not spend time with Odin (kinda chicken!?) I'd rather only update the firmware using what Kies provides...and here is the issue..
The last available firmware through Kies is the 2.2 dating back to october...have any other Norwegian Telenor customers been able to get newer firmwares using Kies...or must I do what so many others do and go for Odin if I'd like the latest versions?
Im returning my sgs due to the faulty gps and exchange support.
I have a nordic generic sgs. And the latest fw is the onw from october. Were told by a samsung rep that a new release were due at xmas. But havent seen it yet. If you are going to flash through odin. I would recommend Darkys ROM.

Last I heard, from a swedish forum, was that the nordic version will be released before march.
So we should expect it in january-february.
Hi everyone
I just got myself an I9000(UK) and it is still running on Android 2.1.
The latest firmware Kies offer me is PDA:JS3 / PHONE:JS1 / CSC:JS2 (VOD), seems like much older than the Gingerbread. I know Samsung has now pulled back the Gingerbread update but I notice people are talking about JS5/JS8 in the forum, can I download these relatively update firmware from Kies?
I understand root is not that hard. Of cause I want a fast phone but honestly stability is quite important to me as well. With so many combinations between PDA and PHONE firmware, I just don’t want to use too much time to try them all.
So in short is there anyway I can download some relatively update firmware from Kies?
Thank you very much
Depends upon the phone provider and its Product code .
O2 UK phone will match its firmware and hardware ID and O2 product code on Kies server likewise Voda Orange etc .
If for instance your phone was bought from O2 then you get the latest firmware from O2 does not matter what sim you are using .
Yours is a Vodaphone product so its them that update .
PDA:JS3 / PHONE:JS1 / CSC:JS2 (VOD Looks like latest firmware 2.2.1 and is significantly faster than Eclair ..
Just update via Kies and wait until 2.3 is released .
You cannot have Gingerbread until it is released by Samsung and uploaded/modified by the relevant phone providers .

Thanks for your reply.
I notice people are talking about JS5/JS8 in the forum, what is the difference between newer JS5/JS8 and JS3? only miner debug or more functions added?

Difficult to see some visible difference, as always most of people said that the latest is faster (placebo effect ?). The JSx ROM are very good in fact, no real need to upgrade from JS3 to JS8 as far I know (I can be wrong !).
If you want to flash official ROM via Odin, you can use the EXCELLENT CheckFus from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437
Hey there,
So last I checked there was still no official release of the V20 firmware for Gingerbread on the LGP970 for UK networks. Does anyone know why? Are there still plans to release it?
I've held out on flashing my phone and manually installing one of the other official releases, because it looks quite tricky. If I do flash myself, any recommendations on which region's firmware to install?
Many thanks in advance,
J

Same here (Brazil). None of the operators have the V20 upgrade, just the open units (directly from LG).
My CP is from TIM Brasil and I have flashed the Brazil Open version. I've been having no problems whatsoever.
