Best reliable kernel...? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm wondering whats the best kernel to use.. Im using the latest one on rom manager..
Isn't the kernel the one that helps in battery life as well as other things?
I use my phone alot... What is the best kernel to aid in using less battery life?
Please provide Download link
Thanks in advance

Every phone is different, try them for a few days and see what works best for you. Also saying the newest via a program doesn't tell us which you have. The stock CM kernel is fine for me. The others don't add much in the way of extras other than overclocking and FM radio on desire roms.

I've tried different kernels and arrived at the conclusion that the best kernel is the one that comes with ROM.
That is if you want a stable and reliable system...

I did this and always ended back with my favorite, the stock ROM, now it's JL2. I have tried a lot of other ROMs but I find the stock ROM to be the best. It is just as fast (not in benchmark scores but in real everyday use) as all the other custom ROMs I have tried. It does lack some of the custom/Gingerbread themes but all in all, for me, it does the best job.
My GPS works well. I get great battery life (compared with others that I have read about). No issues.

Nice one cheers Ian much appreciated

Current via the Rom Kitchen .http://romkitchen.org
http://romkitchen.org/logs/1ifJ8Aj4qA.txt
This ROM is using the XXJPY_No_Wipe.zip, version: v8 ROM, coupled with a supercurio kernel and a jpy modem.
The CSC for this rom is : XEU
The theme is the xxjpy_aosp theme.
Not seen better not even sure it needs lagfix its lag free .

[Q] Best ROM for my GF :)

Hi All,
Need some advice about the Galaxy S. I am a Nexus S user and would love to get my Girlfriends Galaxy S running better if not as well as my Nexus S. I have tried to get the galaxy S running well but now I think I have done all I can to optimise the stock ROM it has onboard!
I know that for the SGS you must use Odin to flash new ROMs – any warnings to me being a NS user with our easy CWM flashing? I will of course be doing a Nandroid backup of her current ROM in case things go wrong Currently the SGS is rooted and running a branded O2 2.2 Froyo Rom. I have Lag Fixed it using OCLF (Not great I know, but its not my phone I can't always fiddle with it to update it!) and tried to remove bloat using Titanium Backup.
The advice I would love is – which ROM do I put on her phone, when she isn’t the most tech savvy person. I figure there are 3 main options (but feel free to correct me!) for a stable and quick ROM that I won’t have to keep touching and updating or fixing:
Stock 2.3.4 (JVP?)
Nice because it’s stock and from what I’ve read it seems to run fast and is the latest version of phone android like on my Nexus
Darkys ROM
Seems to be a nice option – fast stable and tweaked (a fixed version of stock really no?), but perhaps it has too many options for my non tech savvy GF to be using?
Cyanogen Mod
Only reason I resist this is because it is probably too much of a shift away from the Samsung experience my partner is used to - I would prefer it (I have a nexus so naturally!) but I doubt my girlfriend would appreciate the change. Also it seem CM isn't quite ready for the SGS yet...
Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated! I have searched a lot about the SGS, but not having the phone myself, I figure it might be best to ask users of their opinions and steal your advice!
As this one is for your girlfriend and you are planing already with a "stock" ROM you should for sure go for the latest 2.3.4 Android Version in JVP.
I personally would never go for a "stock" but this is just my personal opinion since I am daily with the phone and can repair things by my own.
Related to ODIN there is not much to say if you read all the guides completely.
I flashed my phone many, many times even using seperat kernels and removing thing before, adding and changing scripts without brick the phone.
Try to safe the EFS dircetory is the only thing I would recommend if it is not mentioned in the guides before doing a flash.
Hope it helps for your decision.
i suggest u use darkky's rom in that case cause the battery alone lasts longer than stock that means more time spent talking to u..
I suggest you leave her phone alone

I would use one of ramads stock deodexed roms, and then flash a custom kernel, that way she gets no lag, stock, you are safe and your love life will thrive! Now that is slick womanizing!
Insanity cm 016/glitchv10c
after couple testing different ROM .... i am very pleased with Juwe's ROM ..... stable , all works fine , fantastic look ....
Darky's ROM is not a 'fixed' version of stock.
Just go with the latest stock firmware for the best performance, ie flash XXJVQ with Odin after backing up all data

I totally agree with this idea
Whack on JVQ deodexed and voodoo mod. Convert to Ext4 and then life = complete. Cyanogenmod is still best though

Thanks for your suggestions!
Thanks to you all for your help! I think I am going to go for a stock 2.3 based rom either JVP or JVQ - probably JVQ as google talk video works with it, and now skype video works too - both of which she wants.
@solar666
Thanks I'll definitely be following the guides to the letter - and yeah an EFS backup is also on my to-do list!
@doomsdaycs
Battery Life is very much important, but having seen some youtube videos of Darky's rom, I think the interface & option changes & colours might be too much of a shift - I'd prefer it though!
@acejacksooted & @carvax
Id love to leave it alone, but she complains that it isn't responsive like my nexus and lags sometimes - so I don't have much choice but to deal with it!
@slaphead20
Is there much of an advantage to a deodexed samsung rom? Also, I hope you don't use your phone to chat up all women that way
@bisko69
Is Juwe's rom that different from samsung's roms?
@Mothatt
Yeah I think that's the way I will go - safe!
@jaju123
Again, seems like the best option at the moment. Thanks!
Any other thoughts are more than welcome! Thanks again .
All custom-ROMs except CM7 and MIUI are based on Samsung-stock-ROMs.
ROM-cookers of Samsung-based ROMs add some features and change the colors of the UI. So you should take the custom-ROM which has the nicest colors.

i recommend MIuI GALNET its awesome
Darkys rom!
I've used many roms, but I always flash Darky v10.1 back.
Ist just so goood, battery life is amazing and still the phone is so simple.
Seeing that your GF rom is still in Froyo, isnt it better to upgrade it to at least stock Gingerbread?
Perhaps you can flash a stock deodexed rom, flash a kernel for root and CWM (i recommend SpeedMod), then flash a theme from the theme forums that you think she will like.
maybe you can even make a theme for her based on what she likes
conclusion: Stock rom with custom theme, if she like to stay on stock samsung experience and a nicer UI

Haha I'm sure many people on this site would be more than happy to upgrade their girlfriends ROM to CM7 - more customisation and more options haha!
I recommend darky rom 10.1 and launcher 7 -> fast, stable and... More than easy to handle

[Q] Which of the custom rom availble for GSM GT-P1000 is best?

hey guys, please advice on pros and cons of any custom roms for GSM GTAB. which is best among them? thanks.
Try overcome, very smooth

Mate, the rule is, DON'T ASK.... Everyone has their own idea and this could become a slugfest over whats best. The chefs all give you information about whats in their rom, its up to you to decide if you want it...
Read through the last few pages if you want to know what the latest "problems" are with the rom as the chef or others post fixes as they find them...
Roothammer
Roothammer has developed a custom ROM which is pre rooted, i think it is the best
Test them, the one you'll like is the best.

Overcome ROMS are probably the most stable (Jupiter is the latest and very nice is is too)
I'm currently evaluating BOCA 1.5 and although it is still has a couple of issues such as movie recording not working and the Ext SD card not being visible until removed & reinserted, I am sticking with it because is seems twice as fast than the Overcome roms (probably due to the JIT compiler being enabled). V2 of BOCA promises to fix these isses and provide more goodies.
But you won't really know until you try them.

fellow cebuano here buddy. am running overcome jupiter and happy running it. but BOCA is faster and snappier i guess. the only problem is CM bugs apply so choose wisely. better try both ans see for yourself.

[Q] what is thebest romfor my captivate

Hey i was just wondering what rom would be best for me. i currently have the leaked 2.3.3 andim happy with it but i want a new modem that works better with it. im really just confused and if you could give me a suggestion that would be great.
Ok so there isn't a best rom. So go read each dev page and try them out. If you want a new modem you can flash different modems to try them out.
I897 roms have better battery life and better call quality.
I9000 roms have more choices and more kernels that can be oc/uv.

[Q] Rom with best battery performance?

Hey guys, i m new to your forum, so pls be nice to me :-D i just bought the i9001 for my girlfriend and i wanna flash a custom rom right away. My question now is, which rom is the most stable and offers the best battery performance? I dont wanna overclock it, since it seems to be fast enough, but as i already know from my lg device, is that battery is much better on cust roms. So i hope you can help me out and guide me the right direction. If you already have got a discussion thread about roms, pls guide me there, since i couldnt find it till now. Flashing and so on, seems far more complicated with samsung devices but i ll keep on reading, in order not to screw this beautiful device

Hi, try this UCM GingerBread Rom 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457437). I have installed it in my SGS+ yesterday.For now this ROM seems to be the best battery and performance combination.
best battery for me was stock rom 2.3.5
I think you will have as many answers as there's customs ROM fo GS2... I have my GS2 since few weeks only and I already tested 5 ROMS to assess which one is the best for my own usage (performance / quality / stability / battery life, etc).
So I think the ROM which has the best match for someone's usage will not be the same than for you.
So far if I could give you a reco it would be for Gingermod, CheckROM v6 or just Stock ROM + Siyha Kernel. But again take it only as my own view which can be different for someone else

He asks for a rom for the sgs+ not the sgs2.
I think it doesn't really matter which rom you take. It does matter what governor and which I/O scheduler you take! change them with no frills cpu controll for the market.
Oh thanks your right, thank all of you guys, I think i ll read some more and try to flash first, when i have enough knowledge about the phone. As far as i got, i first of all need to flash the cust recovery, then pick a rom and either flash it via recovery, or client on pc. Depending on the rom. But i guess i ll take the one from first post, since i only want it to improve battery life and not the overall performance, or even oc, since it is a good phone already ;-) again, thank all of you so far :-D
One more thing, whats the best governor and iosched for you? I prefere interactivex and simple, for battery
