I don't even know where to begin. Don't ask me how, I've just ****ed my phone up soo bad. I have rooted my phone, and started deleting/uninstalling alot of bloat, and I didn't back anything up. I even managed to uninstall google talk, by a mistake. I EVEN GOT RID OF MY FILES!!! I'm so stupid. The thing is I got astro and stuff, and I had backed up google talk in titanium backup, but then I don't know how, but I rastored my phone to factory so astro was gone along with all the other apps.
So now I get the com.google.process.gapps error when i boot my phone up and I cant download apps from the market. It's stalled at starting download. I just want to get everything back to normal. Recover it back to stock! With the firmware and apps! Is there a way? Please help a brother in need!!!
THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP I GET!

Right so i've done something to my phone, i added that battery circle thing for the galaxy s but i think it didn't take, and now it just loads up into the phone and keeps turning the screen on and off like its trying to load but it never does. OBVIOUSLY i've done something terribly wrong all i want to do is jsut wipe everything and start again fresh so it works! is there anyway to do this through odin or something? help would be appreciated..
Seems like odin and download mode is my best bet but can anyone talk me through what i have to do? i dont care what i put on my phone, as long as it works. seems like a good time to update my firmware anyways.. Just help lol, s**tting bricks at the moment and the thought of having a nice expensive paper weight...
if you want to fix it with minimal work and risc you can just goto recovery and make a wipe data/factory reset.
if you want to upgrade the firmware while you are at it, read this. we can not explain the procedure for every noob user again and again! it's not that hard...if you have any specific problems, report back here.
i recommend XWJM2 or XWJM5 from here
Already tried the simple factory restore and it just does the same thing as when it was before i did. loads up and then when it starts to load the data and the status bar it stops and then screen turns off and then back on and tries again. and again and again lol. I understand that you cant explain again and again and thats why im looking for myself but thought it was worth asking anyways. I have a feeling that the uhh is it framework file? the file that does all the status bar and stuff has gone weird and that didn't didn't get restored to factory settings when i restored factory settings as each time the phone boots, it doesn't show the status bar before it retries. And since the metamorph and the super battery circle indicator mess around with it. im assuming its to do with that.
woot got the phone working with a flash of odin. weird thing is that all my original files such as my back ups and the lag fix are still there in my internal sd card but i have no idea if they're still working because my actual apps in my app drawer such as rom manager have gone. Any idea what i can do now lol? should i delete the files and such from the internal card such as the lag fix files and the backups since im on jm5 now rather than JF3 that i was on before all this happened.
i think it would have been possible to save your old "installation" but not to explain to you how
when you flash with odin, all settings and apps are deleted. what remains is the data they saved on the sdcard. you can delete it or leave it, as you wish . i don't know which of all the lag-fixes you had running but i's not "active" any more so you can delete the files made by it if you are sure you know what to delete
btw. if you did a nandroid backup you could restore it now so be sure to do one next time you try new stuff
OK I'm a complete newbie. I've rooted my Captivate, now what? I did the ROM manager also...

LOL iono, I mainly just wanted to get rid of the ATT crap that was on there. and use that froyo thing to get flash... LOL
Titanium backup app can uninstall bloatware. 2.2 cab be reached by leaked ji6 flash or custom roms. Either way read the links posted. Take your time. Understand how to recover before you go crazy.

Taking all bets!
How long till JDK bricks his phone?
I don't mean permanently; just until he tries to reboot it after doing something and it gets stuck at the Death Star screen. Hey, it happened to me. Fortunately, Odin3 was there to save my phone's tuchis. I looked to make sure I could do the 3-button trick first.
But seriously, about the only reason I can think of to root it anymore, if you're not playing with ROM's or update.zip customizations is to get rid of the AT&T Bloatware. I don't even think you need to root to unlock the phone anymore.
I'm a she actually... And thank you it worked! Was scared to death of messing up but didn't really come across any problems.
I'd say read the Q&A sticky - it will give you some ideas on what to do next
I am not sure what i did! as u can tell i am a noob
i just got the samsung captivate and found this site, i rooted the phone thanks to xda! i wanted to remove voice dialer from the phone, as it sucks.
so i went in to root uninstaller and since i never used it before didn't recognize the screens yet. i somehow must of clicked on one of the apps/sys files and was in a page that had the 3 options, of backup, grant, and uninstall. i tried to go back but it didn't work, i pressed grant permission and nothing happened, i then pressed uninstall and only then realized i should of pressed backup first! the thing is i have no idea what i uninstalled! all i saw was something if i remember correctly with preconfig. in the name. anyone have any idea what i did?! i checked the phone and later rebooted and tried texting, calling all seems OK. but i do not know if i did something.
please help this noob.....
sorry you just dont have enough information for ANYONE to fix you without listing every single file..
to be safe and avoid problems:
just flash to stock. only use Odin-one-click if you are ATT. use Odin3 1.7 with proper stock flash otherwise.
After doing a lo of searching and what not I finally was able to do a backup on my phone with clockworkmod revcovery.I tried to install cyanogenmod7 and pretty much bricked my phone...I am very new to flashing and all this stuff so I freaked out and panicked but I was finally able to restore the phone back to the way it was using the backup. So then I read a couple more threads and did some searching around on the internet and tried to install cyanogenmod7 again and the same thing happened...the phone would boot up to the lg logo screen then go blank and nothing would happen it would just stay like that. So i figured I'd give it up and just redo the backup again and restore the phone back to where I had it..BUT this time it wouldn't do it! it just kept saying the file wasn't found...I kept trying and nothing so then I really freaked out and after fooling around with clearing the caches and data and all that stuff some how I don't know how I did it but it finally installed cyanogenmod7 On my phone and that's what its running now...So to make a long story short...where did my backup go? can I get it back? or was I suppose to make a new backup every time I flash my phone? Any help would be great! Thank you!
Hi, I f_cked up.
Firstly, I've spent a few hours looking around the internet (including this forum) for answers but I can't find any so sorry if this has been answered (but I doubt it, I f_cked up pretty well).
My biggest issue at the moment is that, whenever I try and start my phone I get the error: "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" and I'm stuck in a constant cycle of restarts, unless I take my battery out. There is also other problems, but I'll tell you how I kept screwing up my phone.
So, I got my new phone, rooted it, all good. I deleted a bunch of system files I didn't need (not com.android.phone). I then decided I wanted the LWP Picker and a few other stupid little things back just to mess around with them, but for some reason the backups in RootUninstaller weren't working so I went looking for the APK's instead, none of which installed correctly.
Since my phone was pretty new and didn't have much data or apps on it anyway, I decided I'll reset it, without making a backup of course. Only problem is, once it deleted all my apps, it also deleted my Google Keyboard (der) which is no problem, except I f_cking deleted the Samsung Keyboard with RootUninstaller, so, errr, I couldn't do anything - including connecting to wifi or logging into my google account - oops.
So what do I do? I'll flash the ROM. I basically followed the instructions on a "theunlockr" website /2013/09/17/how-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-image-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s4-active/ - it's a .com and couldn't post direct links 'cause I'm new. No, I didn't do a custom.
So, basically, yes, I'm screwed. Can anyone help? Very urgent problem.
PS: Sorry if this thread seems rushed... it is.
Since I haven't really gotten a reply, I think I might have a unique problem. Does anybody at least have a nandroid backup or some other way to return the active to it's original form? Thanks again !
Have you tried Odin?

I'm a bit of a noob at this (hence the problem). I used Odin to root the device and also to put CWM on it, but I don't know if I can use Odin in any other way? I also used tried to follow this thread /showthread.php?t=2395242 but the ROM wont transfer to my SD Card for some reason so I can't flash it using CWM. Any other suggestions? Trying to find another Micro SD Card I can use, but is there anything else i could do?
FIXED!!!
So basically, my phone is now in a working state again! I follow the CyanogenMod 10.2 (the thread I put above) after buying a new SD Card and it's working great so far! While I didn't really get much help in this thread, it was this forum that saved my arse so thanks! Hopefully I'll hang around a bit more
