I'm seeing a lot of screenshots with notification trays that are clear or translucent and I"m wondering how to do that... is it something you can change with a setting or are notification trays like other part of themes where you pick a different notification tray and install using the update.zip method and you can't just edit or change the opacity of your current tray/shade? Also is there some place where I can go that I can pick through several trays/shades? Any guidance on this is greatly appreciated.

are you referring to the DOCKS at the bottom of screens? or do you specifically mean the notification panels when you pull down the notification statusbar?
if you are looking for docks and have an eclair or froyo rom- you can download launcherpro from the market or online at launcherpro.com; then you can install the following by just downloading them from here or any place you find docks.

ok well as far as notification panel transparency, jaguirre1231 referred me to this page about it. i haven't used it yet personally because i dont really care much about it, but it should help you.

it's the froyo transparency fix. goodluck .
u could just go old school and edit status_bar_background.png and status_bar_close_on.0.png in the drawable folder...

ah true i forgot about that new png that is in froyo roms. (the second one which is the png behind the first one). that's actually much easier.
Anything like this for 2.1?
its exactly the same. they didnt rewrite and rename file names from 2.1 to 2.2..just find the png's you want from one theme and apply them to the framework however you know how to.
hell, i've taken images from Sense roms for HTC phones for my droid..

i don't know if you've ever done any themes or where you're getting your info from, but that second image that he is referring to does not exist in 2.1, which is why so many of us had problems trying to make the notification panels transparent for the experion theme when the idea was first intro'ed. now, if you're telling him, that he can magically just drop that png in there when it serves no function, then i'd like to see it happen, lol. logically speaking, that is like saying, let's name this file poop.png and make it transparent and expect it to become transparent for that panel. just saying...

So are you saying transparent notification background can only be done on Froyo? Did you ever get it to work on the Experion theme?
Anymore ideas guys? I know this can be done on some level because I've seen this in many pictures in the home screen screenshot forum.

the first one that you were involved in (donut version) and the second one (eclair version). g1_lucky had asked both myself and david1171 about the notification panels countless times and how to make them transparent, and there was no way of doing so because that second image did not exist with that name. if it did exist, it was not in the framework folder, and at the time probably had to do with some xml for it to work. if you guys solved it, then go ahead and explain to this kid how you did so because to my knowledge there was never any such png in either donut or eclair frameworks.
I don't know how it's done, but I have a metamorph theme on my phone that gives me a transparent notifications pulldown. I'm on 2.1

Oh, I wondered about that, but wasn't sure if you were speaking of the theme I was involved in. Any progress with that by the way? Lucky kinda just disappeared on me some time ago, and the project died to my knowledge. I remember this issue coming up in the past, and I agree, I don't recall ever seeing any such image in the initial framework. To my recollection, it was a issue that never had been solved.

I thought you were referring the pull-down notification panel and the ability to make it's background transparent. If so, Samset does that. Here is the Samset thread, look at th second picture in the first post for an example:

Downloading... Very nice, thank you
Looks great, well done my friend and keep them coming!
Wow, very great. I like this Theme.
I try it and it's very great.
Is it possible to do this in white?
Very nice!
Love!
Good also for 2.8?
The problem with making a white theme is that the fonts are in white too so they won't show up. I'm not sure yet how to change the font colour.
This only works on 2.9. I started working on it when 2.8 was out, but had to restart for 2.9. I threw away the 2.8 version, sorry!
Might be good for 2.8, I will try.
Uh, the Fonts. Okay.
And the Navbars on Bottom and Top only? Does that work?
I think for white Hero every widgets etc in Black, but this Both bars in White...?
Any way you can get this to work with MoDaCo's 1.1 rom for the Sprint Hero? Thanks.
Formel what do you mean by navbars? Like the status bar at the top and the phone button at the bottom? There's still the fonts problem, I'm not sure how to get around it.. Maybe someone can enlighten me?
Formel please can you post this theme on your German forum?
I can make a CDMA version soon, just need some free time and I'll make it.
Yes, I mean the status Bar on Top and the three Buttons on bottom.
I've found yesterday in market a Theme for GDE Home replacement in White.
I think I've seen here a theme with white status bar.
Suddenly, i've forgotten to make a new thread at Handy-FAQ.de. Thank you for reminding.
Now, I did:

Cool thanks for posting it up dude! I'll try and look into the white theme a little more as I'd like it too
would you be so kind to share some of your knowledge?
i would like to have the transparent background for the notification pulldown, aswell as the bottom bar with the "mold" in it, but i would like to have it with the stock colors. if you could tip me off witch apk i should look in, and maybe even what files to replace that would be super awesome! pretty please...
Sure - The background for the notification pulldown is called status_bar_background.png and can be found in \res\drawable-480x320\ in framework-res.apk
The bottom bar mold, do u mean the 2-tone effect? Doesn't the stock rom already have that effect in stock colours though? The bottom bar stuff is in \res\drawable-port-480x320\ in Rosie.apk anyway.
Give me a shout if you need anything else!

thanks for that quick answer! i will dig into that tonight, no time to do it at work...
what i meant with the bottombar see attachment. as long as i know where to look i think i can find it.
just for my curiosity/clarification: all you do to create a theme is extracting the apk, alter the image files in it, compress & resign and install? or is there more to it, like altering xml files (which i can not open as they are compiled?) just that i'm on the right track here...
Haha ok I get you know, I thought you were talking about mould Yes you can definitely turn that bar back to grey. I can do it for you if you get stuck. Now I know that's the bit you mean, I think that's in the same folder as the background transparency, \res\drawable-480x320\ in framework-res.apk. I'm not at my dev computer right now so I can't be totally sure, but if you can't find it let me know and I'll have another look.
Yes you're on the right track, that should work fine. It can get a bit confusing but if you keep all your files organised you should be fine.
I didn't alter any xml files to make my theme, so just leave those alone and replace the .png files.
MOD - unread message Widget
More and more Android users love Battstatt and Tajm. This inspired me to mod the free market app smsunreadcount in a way, that now it looks like these famous widgets (original app shows 1x1 72 pixel icons). All 3 options (sms, gmail, calls) now are 2x1 and are a nice complement to Battstatt and Tajm, but do also fit to most Android environments.
The mod is signed, so just copy it on your SD and install with a file explorer.
If you place the smsunreadcount widget, you can choose between gmail, sms and dialer (missed calls). IMPORTANT - activate "hide icon label" to get the right size.
Tested on Milestone, but it should run at least on all hdpi devices. Feedback from mdpi Users is apreciated

Did you place the widgets on your homescreen or just installed it so far. Like with any widget you need to long press the homescreen first and add it.
HTC Hero
When adding as widget it adds a shortcut to messaging.
This is great, thanks! Anyway to make the background transparent?? TIA
The current backgroud is on 60% like battstatt, but since this is png related, just change the icons in drawable-hdpi and push in system/app or resign and install. With this hack it is easy to do, since now you only need to change the 3 pngs and can use your own flavour.
so obviously no success with mdpi - you could try the following. Downsize the 3 pngs in drawable-hdpi to 160x97 and push the new apk into system/app or resign and install, that might work on mdpi.

It certainly works with the desire, but I`m not sure whether the 10% philosophy does match to Sense. You can rename them anyway how you need them, but they are certainly designed for 10% steps. Technically they will work anyway.

Thanks that worked and it works great! Few things just some ideas take them or leave them.
The blue doesnt go with my theme and might be better if you made it just white where you have "inbox" and "message."
Also your look nicer but sadly they dont exactly match battstatt because your background its kind of shaded not a flat color.
And one last thing the fonts are slightly different.
Just some small things that might make this app even awesomer! Cant wait to see it in the market!
I talked to Hans regarding a thread specific to the Axura ROM. We were getting some great ideas from people, and needed a place to put it all together, without cluttering up the ROM thread. So I got his blessing. Out of respect you know
If you have any yourself and are interested in displaying them here; go for it! There have been some great things being tossed around. I use the standard 960x800(Or very close to it). Personally I use Flikie to display my wallpapers, any new ones I download/create, I just go to my SD(Internal)/Flikie and copy them in the Wallpapers folder.
Most of the ones I have are images I have acquired from other locations, Flikie, Zedge, Deviant Art, etc. I just do my own bit of modifications to fit my needs. If I can locate the original creator, I will most definitely credit them. Please do the same.

This isn't a wallpaper or boot animation, but it seemed like an appropriate place to post it. I've been making some slight alterations to the stock axura theme and thought some one else might want to use it. It mostly just changes the button presses from the ugly stock blue to orange. Just about everything in the system is orange to match (I like consistency).
It also has the AOSP lock screen instead of the modified android lockscreen. I like this better since I use a music player (Playerpro) that has lockscreen controls that uses the AOSP lockscreen sliders and I like consistency.
It also changes the tabs on the top of the phone and contacts app to a gray color instead of the blue.
The notification bar is the same that comes on Axura except I've put in the battery icons from beta 4. If someone likes the orange but wants the circle battery back, I'd be happy to provide that too.
You can just flash the file from CWM.

I'm working on it currently. I'm not really sure the best way to show the button press in a screen shot, but I'm going to take a few of the lock screen, notification bar, and the pull down. If you have any screen shot you'd like to see let me know.
I'd also like to point out that I didn't create any of these image files. I just pieced them together from other themes that I like.

Here are ALL of the bootanimations I have converted, as well as others:

Here's a space background that I use. Combination galaxy, anroid, axura. I made it, anyone is free to use it.

I love everything that you did - but would prefer the circle battery. Can you provide that to me please.
Thanks!

You can just flash the file from CWM.

EDIT - Updated post with working zip - EDIT
I've ported over the Frost theme, made by sonnysekhon for the HTC Desire. I went with that one since I'm personally not a circle battery fan. I added a couple pieces of work in here and there, but nothing major. I'd also like to take the time to thank fritzgerald for helping me with some smali edits. Thanks!
I've built this theme on top of Assonance 4.3, I'd assume it would work on all versions of Assonance (or any JK3 ROM for that matter) but I can't say for sure.
Here are some screenshots, downloads for the theme, and for the icons and wallpapers supplied by the original author are attached:

Hmm this is my first time making a theme, or a flashable zip for that matter, so I very well may have done something wrong. I'll check it out when I get to a computer.

Yeah, been looking for where that would be located, gotta be somewhere in twframework-res.apk. I've noticed a couple other things in the version posted, such as the search icon in settings being the wrong one, and I'm still working on getting the blue text in there to be white or gray.

Yeah its in the "twframework-res\res\values\styles.xml". I haven't applied the theme so I'm not sure where\what some of the issues are. The blue text for the settings menus is located in "framework-res\res\color\zzz_tw_secondary_text_sub.xml" on the 2nd to last line.

Sorry, which one? I have SiMi Clock widget, Beautiful Widgets Weather, Minimal Text Widget for the date, OneSeven for the day of the week, BattStatt for the battery percent, and then the phone, sms, and mail icons are SMS Unread Widget.

Just a tip.. The hex code for the blue color is the same hex code for the blue text throughout the phone. Its found in different locations but it's always the same hex code.
Hmmm, "twframework-res.apk\res\values" doesn't seem to exist... :/

Sorry. You need to decompile the APK first. Use APK Manager or apktool. If you simply try to extract the APK you wont see it. After you make your changes and recompile the APK it's all located in the resources.arsc. Messing with the xmls especially in the values folder you'll want to make sure you back up. I crashed my phone tons of times while learning that portion.

Ah got it. Still seems like the zip won't flash, even the one you posted, and the one's I've made since... Either get error or it doesn't copy the files and sits at "Installing" as the second reply states... :/

I downloaded the current zip on the OP. Installed every time for me. Are you installing with CWM Recovery or stock recovery?
Running CWM, maybe it's just my phone :/
Now I'm getting stuck in a bootloop and my Nandroid b/u won't restore. Awesome...
(FYI, this was from working on twframework-res.apk, nothing to do with the theme posted in this thread)
I've made some changes to the framework and twframework files to get rid of the white text on the notification drop down as well as the blue text in the settings menu. Anyone willing to test out? I know the settings menu change works but I'm not sure on the drop down. I'm not running this ROM so it crashes my phone if I try to apply it.
Hi.
This thread was initially about changing the font colour which I have since achieved, but run in to a couple more issues that I can't seem to figure out. The image I've used for my notification area is set at 80% transparency in photoshop, but when viewed on the phone it's a solid image. I've tried creating a new image but get the same result.
I've used an image from my other theme which shows the transparency on my other theme but not this. I've used an image from another theme which in their screenshot shows transparency, but doesn't in mine. I thought it might be the services.jar, but having used the one from the other theme it's still the same, solid black on my phone, so I'm a little stumped?
I've also changed the stat_notify_sms image in contacts.apk, but it shows the default image when I get a message?
Like I said I'm not a noob, but could do with some pointers or suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks for the link, but I've still not managed to change it. Look at the image, to add code after the next instance of 00 00 1c puts me on the next line, when I do that I just get boot loops.
Sorted it, finally. I pulled each statusbar file from layout and went through them, so I've sorted the statusbar and the notification area. Could you point me in the direction of the operator text in the notification area?

Thanks for the assist!
Need a touch more help, in my eagerness to change the font colour I've changed something but don't know what. The image I've used for the notification backdrop I've set at 80% transparency, but on the phone it's showing as a solid image? which obviously isn't the look I'm after.
Any help as always, will be much appreciated.

Yes, I've done the same thing I've done with other themes but for some reason it's not showing the transparency on the phone this time round...
Hi.
Had to to start from scratch due to Zdzihu releasing a beta2 for the X10, but this time round I'm having new trouble, I've edited the files but my operator text and clock is still showing black text. Can someone take a look at my files, I've checked and double checked but still I've got black text. Any help would be much appreciated.
I've attached my statusbar xmls from layout and my smali files.

Thanks, but the reason I'm asking is because I have already changed my smali file to white, but see no change, where as before I did, and I've changed my files in res/layout too, and while my notifications are white, the carrier remains gray, and can't figure out why it worked before but isn't doing now.
Thanks for the link, but doesn't really help me understand what the problem is now.

Sorry, i thought point 3 might have helped.
You could try applying the original framework, see if changes apply, then re-applying your mod again.
I resolved a similar issue a few days back with that method, seems it just needed a kick up the arse.

That's why I've uploaded the files hoping some could take a look because I've changed every file like I did before, but the clock and the carrier text refuses to change, and don't really want to start from scratch for a third time.
As far as i know from cooking themes for dell streak, the rom itself needs to be set to allow transparent status bar etc... i presume you're working on the x10? If so to set the rom you're bootloader would have to be unlocked to customise a deoxidised rom, then you can have transparent built into themes. Please correct me if I'm wrong, its info i have read and hopefully will help you too

Hi.
I'm not trying to make the statusbar transparent, I'm trying to make the statusbar font white, but what worked for me before just isn't working now and I can't figure it out. Any one who checks the files I've uploaded can see they have all been edited accordingly but the font colour just wont change.
The rom I'm trying mod is in beta stage 2, and the reason I'm having to start again is because the services.jar has changed from beta 1, and having changed the only instance of 0x100 in StatusBarIcon.smali, nothing is changing, so think I maybe missing something, but need a theming pro to take a look and point out what that might be. I've followed stericsons guide, I've watched TheFXNs vid, I've read dullys link, none of which are of any help with this issue, because I know I've edited what needs editing, but still stuck with black font in the statusbar.
There's a $10 or £5 donation for anyone who helps resolve this as I'm past the point of frustration now.
Take a look here
http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...notification-clock-pull-down-text-colors.html
Its a really good guide and whilst you've hit a brick wall you may find reading a different way might highlight the error
