Normally I clear my call log and delete message every 2-3 days. But today I found Contact History kept all my call log and message even I deleted all.
Is there any way to auto clear the Contact History, or is there any APP for it?

I was cleaning up my phone - call logs, SMS, etc. If I don't do it periodically it gets out of control.
I thought I took care of everything but then I go into Contacts - History and see a duplicate of EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE AND CALL LOG I already deleted! Not only is the record there but the call duration and message content! This is crazy.
Not only that but there's no clear quick way of deleting the history - completely or selected entries.
ARGH. This is very aggravating. How many places do I have to clean up? Is there a better way?

Edit: OK - so I overreacted just a LITTLE. This is still very silly and frustrating. This is a TERRIBLE interface to have to pick through every single record single record to choose things to delete. In fact this whole list shouldn't even exist. There's no grouping or anything like there is in the other interfaces. Awful awful feature.
I discovered this tonight as well cleaning some things up. I figured out how to clear the log completely, but I agree this is a dumb feature.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent this history from compiling? It really makes no sense as to why there is a history for every interaction with a contact, especially if you have previously deleted the text messages or call logs...

I haven't tried this because I don't want to clear my history, but if you go to the Contacts > History tab and hit menu > delete, would that get rid of all the history at once?
Thats how I did it. What Im wondering is why its there in the first place? Whats the point when the logs are available in other places already? Is there a way to eliminate the logging?

What the hell.... Im glad you pointed this out... This feature is uber stupid! :baffled:

Uh yeah, my WIFE discovered this on my phone.
So much for surprises. I agree, strange and unnecessary feature.

I suppose its an interesting way to spy on whats going on for those who dont know to delete it as she may have found out, but Im wondering if theres a way to prevent it from logging that at all somehow...

Go to Settings - Account & Sync, choose your facebook account and remove it. All your Facebook contact history should be gone. Re-add your FB account if you need it, and I foresee the recurring contact history problem.
Call log
Surely there should be a way that only calls made/recieved only could be in my call log. I dont need a record of text message in my call log. Does anyone know how to fix this?
put a lock on your phone and then no can get into lol
My Samsung Galaxy S bought in India and running DDJF6 deletes all my sms as soon as the number reached near about a 1000. I have not managed to find a pattern yet, but as soon as it becomes a high enough number, I suddenly find them gone. Has happenned about 3 times so far.
In messages setting, the option "delete old messages" is checked. I have tried to uncheck it multiple times, but the setting automatically comes back. "text message limit" option is also set to 5000, and despite attempts to increase it, this does not change.
Also, messages have never reached 5000 in all the conversations, let alone one conversation ! What's wrong ? TIA !
guys I can sure that you have installed quick cache cleaner app, or any other equalent app, it will delet all sms when u clear the all system cache,
solution: all you have to do is very simple open cache cleaner app n select messages press n hold it n select EXCLUDE that's it your problem will be solved!!
just wondering do you actually store 1000s of sms on your mobile?
Are they worth storing to that large quantity?
Has anyone yet figured out a way to not have the Captivate log every single text and call you make?
It is so annoying to have to hunt all through my phone looking for tracks. Originally I assumed that they could be erased by deleting the thread in messaging. Wrong!
So then go to the contact/history and delete it there. Wrong! There is nothing in the history tab.
So then open the dialer, go to call log and look, every sent and recieved text, mms, and call is logged there as well. Its like a paranoid secret agent designed this system.
And heaven forbid that you installed a second messaging program such as Handcent to log everything all over again.
I currently use Horizon to keep my private texts private, but even that allows the outgoing texts to be logged.
Yes, deleting the thread, then selecting every individual item in the log from the unwanted caller works. Or even deleting the entire call log at once will work. But short of that has anyone come up with a work around for the call logging intrusion?
Found "Not log this call" on the market to auto delete phone calls log (Not free).
For sms you can edit the text message limit and reduce it to 1. This will at least keep 1 text message in store before it gets deleted. But default it's set to 200 msg per conversation and 20 mms per conversation.
Interesting. I looked at that app, I may have to try it.
Did you actually get your message inbox to go to 1? Mine will only go down to 10.
I am currently testing it to see if it erases the call log history as it erases the inbox but I dont think it does.
Ok, so setting the message limit to 10 only deletes the messages, not the logs.
However, while playing with it I found out that by selecting one of the logged entries (text or call) it pulls up a history type page. From there you can select the bottom left soft key, choose delete and then choose select all. I am not sure but I think it only deletes one page at a time or something as it seems to leave a few behind. I am still playing but its a hell of a lot better that trying to select each individual log in the main log screen. Its sort of what you would expect the history tab in the contact screen to do. (especially if you came from WinMo )
I hope someone else finds this helpful. I did a lot of searching and found a lot of complaints about this awful "feature" but no answers. This isnt much of an answer but its seems a bit more tolerable since I figured the history part out.
It also seems to be something Samsung adds as Evo and the Droid don't do it.
Check out HistoryEraser. I think I saw it on Lifehacker a few days ago, supposed to wipe away all your unwanted tracks.
I have no idea what is going on, or why it started, but I've had this issue since I got my Droid 3, and I hoped that when I got my Droid 4, it would stop...
My phone is assigning random facebook pictures to people as their caller ID picture. I will get a phone call from friend A, and it will show the picture of friend B, or some other random facebook picture.
If I assign a picture to a contact on my phone (such as one I took with the camera), if I receive a call it will show the picture correctly, however, if I dial that person it will show some other random facebook picture.
For some people, the picture comes up correctly, but for many it does not.
Certainly there is some cache somewhere I can clear to fix this, right?
If you have FB contacts syncing, the phone will try to auto pair them with your Google contacts.
Mine tries to tie my info that I have in Gmail for my alternative e-mails/numbers with my dad's fb info even though our display names are listed differently(he's in fb as Billy, and my info is under William)
If that's what's wrong to fix it, in contacts go into the contact that is messed up. Hit menu, and look for separate(under more).
Alright, so I am still having this problem, even after uninstalling the facebook apps...
I want to clear my Contacts Storage, but in Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Contacts Storage the "clear data" button is grayed out.
Any way to clear this WITHOUT doing a factory data reset?
Thanks!
Have you tried joining the contacts (I assume they are already joined), then setting the google profile as Default? That will make their name and photo the one you assigned to the google contact. Let me know if that works.
Hi,
I have this problem that the contact name & picture does not show on my phone incoming calls, call logs etc. I have contact pictures for all my contacts in google, i can see them in the contacts , but the call logs and incoming call does not display the picture
i also notice in the call log it doesnt even show the contact name, just shows the phone number with "unsaved" written below.
when I add a contact to the PHONE contacts and not google then it shows name and picture, but my google contacts dont show. This is so strange as it worked before but suddenly now past few days it doesnt work
I have rooted the phone and used Titanium backup to disable a lot of applications after referring to the safe to remove list, I am familiar with that as i did the same on my S2 i had before.
anyone with any ideas on this please help.

Clear the Contacts and Contacts Storage data (under Applications Manager>All) and resync. that should solve it.
Failing that reboot in to recovery and clear both cache's.
