Hi fellow galaxy owners,
I'm trying to find the ringtones in the galaxy S in order to transfer one to my gf's phone (the good morning one) but I can only locate them in the settings>audio and display>setting for voice call etc. But the phone options don't allow to transfer them from that menu
But I'm unable to find them through the music player or file explorer. Do I need a root file explorer in order to get to it?
Muchas gracias.
You need Root access to be able to get to the folder containing the original tone

you might have rooted your device, but you will need to pull them using ADB or use an app like 'Root Explorer'
Ok, muchas gracias.
I suspected so, and yea my phone is rooted (did it for the lagfix) so it's a matter of getting rootexplorer then.
Thanks again.

Hi everyone,
I just was doing some mucking around on my phone, long story short, all my default system ringtones are gone. I actually really liked them. Does anyone know where I can get them back from? I have this terrible feeling that they have been wiped completely. I have a Samsung Captivate, Rogers, 2.2 running Cog 4.
Thanks so much!

Um, best way I know is get them from another rom....Phoenix roms have them. (www.phoenix-hq.com)
Be under system/media/audio/ringtones
(using root explorer!!)
if you download to ur phone its easier.
go into file then it should say extract, then it will extract to the "extracted folder" and then should ask if you want to go there, select "yes". Probably best to open "Extracted ringtones file" select multi select from root explorer menu and select all or some of the ringtones. Not just the file or it will overwrite ur current ringtones if any.
copy and paste the file(s) with root explorer,(system/media/audio/ringtones on your root)( remember to select R/W) or pick and choose favorites, also can aquire any alarm tones missing, I did this when i found out they forgot a perticular alarm tone i used.
Hope its clear and helps ..Good Luck !
I'll give it a shot. I don't have root explorer but I can try playing around following the instructions. Thanks!
Root explorer is worth the money i think...there may still be a free version...you will need read/write access, hence the root explorer.
Also root explorer will extract .zip files...so basically its a must.

If a connect it to the PC, i cannot see the system folder. (is there any trick I am not aware of?)
If i use a folder manager, i cannot put a ringtone in the system/media folder...its probably protected or so.
does it HAVE to be rooted or so?
thank you.
Root is required to make changes to /system

If you wanna put a ringtone in /system/media use root explorer. That's the easiest way for you, if you're advanced and wanna get familiar with adb, adb push it

THANK YOU.
I assumed that
but is the ROOT safe at this time? i have red a lot of issues after ROOTing...
Uhh... root is kinda never safe? Haha. Idk what you mean by that

getting root itself normally isnt a big issue.. normally people run in to more trouble when they have attempted flashes that go awry.
I used to flash my HTC Touch Pro 2 with a CUSTOM Rom almost every month... for more than 1 year..and no issues there...
but the number of topics with problems after booting the D3...made me think again when modding this phone...
With just a root, you should be ok. I feel that just rooting does very little, and as said before, the issues only arise when we try to take advantage of what root enables us to do...freezing, modding, flashing, etc.
i just want to put a custom ringtone (mp3 file) in the ringtones folders.
the ringtones from this phone..are really stupid.
any ideas which does not include root?
Well I use the MIUI music app and when it asks me to choose a ringtone I just chooose it through that

Use Ringdroid, it's free in market. Ringdroid allows you to crop and edit audio files, turn them in to ringtones and set them as default.
worked perfectly with ringdroid
if i unistall the application, the ringtone will remain?
use root explorer. Thats how i get to it.

nope. if i try to move with root explorer a file in system folder, it says i can not do that. probably because the phone is not rooted.

Exactly. Do not be afraid to root it, you can unroot it whenever you like.

Root explorer isn't nedded anymore. ES file explorer can browse as root, and it's free.
Hi,
Im running rocket rom v6. I want to paste the accuweather transparent app into the system apps folder but it wont allow me to. My phone is rooted, mobile odin runs fine but I cant seem to paste into any system folder.
I realize its a permission issue, but how do I get round it? Are there any guides I could read?
Thanks in advance

I use ES File explore from the Play Store. Just go to setting then you can enable "Up to root", "Root Explorer", and "Mount File System". Then you can copy and paste to the system/app foler.

Download Root Explorer from play store.
Hi there,
last night I unlocked my bootloader and installed the ROM given at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174731&page=350&nocache=1
So far, so good.
Only thing I just found is: Device is playing no sound anymore whatsoever, no video sound, no mp3 sound, no system sounds....
Wanted to post in the above, but my priviliges don'T allow that
Anybody got a hint on how to proceed?
Thx in advance!
Make sure you delete /data/alsa folder and reboot. Use Root Explorer

Are you using stock file manager? If so go into settings and check the show hidden files option. Are you referring to accessing through a file manager or viewing a apk?
Im using rood explorer and the built in file explorer too. Cant find waze sound files among others.
