I recently had my old phone number ported to my new network, but in the Settings -> About Phone -> Status screen the phone number is still showing as the temporary one assigned by the network while I was waiting for the port, which was different to the SIMs original, and it changed then.
Is there anyway to get this to update? I've tried restarting the phone, with and without the SIM in but it's still showing as the temporary number. The port has definitely taken place as people have phoned me on my old number and I've phoned them and it's shown as me.
Any help greatly appreciated
No-one know then?
It sounds to me like this may be something that is programmed into the simcard and doesn't change when the operator changes the number (or something like that). I doubt you will be able to fix it yourself, seems to me that this is either due to some delay in the operators system (unlikely after 4 days) or its just coded on the simcard and doesnt change. Maybe there is a program to edit that somewhere but I have no clue.
I've had almost the same problem since the beginning. There's no number on the info field.
I had a new contract and a sim card for the phone, but there was no number. I also have no idea how the number is defined in the field.
Try This and see.
Australian Sim Cards do not have any number Details Programmed so you may be able to program the Sim via your Phone.
Go to Contacts -> Menu Key -> More -> Settings -> Own Numbers.
Here you may see your old Number. Just open this and change the Info and Save.
you may have to Reboot to see any effect.
Keep us updated if this change works.

Hi, I have the same exact problem as above when I had my number ported to T-mobile. I was really searching for a way to fix it then I came across this, I tried this but I do not see that option for me, do you know of any other way to update or fix this? I find it a bit annoying haha. Plus I want to root and do not want any possible mishaps. I am on the Galaxy Note 4 by the way. Thank you.

I rooted and it was fine so I am happy there but I still do want to update the number. Recently I sent my friend a picture message and she got it form my temporary number and it annoyed the heck out of me, a few minutes later I resent one and it was fine so I guess it was a tiny mess up. I wonder if going in and buying a new sim or something would help because if it does and the sim is $10 I'd be willing to do that.

I use pattern to unlock my Galaxy S, but my son played with my phone and accidentally input too many patterns and make my phone only can be unlocked by signing into google account.
I typed my correct gmail user name and password, but still can't sign in and unlock the phone. I am also using APN ON/OFF application, and the APN status is OFF. I am thinking maybe it makes my phone unable to connect to the Internet and sign in to gmail.
Is there anyone know how to solve this problem without resetting the phone into factory default? And if I need to factory reset my phone, how can I do it because the 3 button combination is not working with my Galaxy S?
I'll be grateful if there is someone who can help
Many people have had this issue to some extend, most of them simply reflash the phone since that fixes it.
I remember someone wrote that you somehow could bypass it, sadly cant seem to locate the post anymore.

Try to put your gmail login info from all different gmail account you have.
Also try this. Take out battery>wait for 3 hours > but the battery back > press power button for 20 seconds (This method was listed by one guy on other forum).
One guy also mentioned this method.
AGAIN ITS the lamest thing you could ever think of, anyway heres how it goes,
1) Log in to your google account on your pc, the same account you registered for your phone
2) After logging in look at the top right corner of your inbox/email page, it would say your google username. Like say if you name is John, and you have a google id thats registered to your galaxy s as ,[email protected] Now this google id on the top right corner of the page would be displayed [email protected]
3) Type in the google id, thats visible on the right hand top corner of your page ([email protected]) into your galaxy s handset locked page, and type in the password.
TADA AND YOUR ON TO THE NEW SCREEN TELLING YOU TO PUT IN ANOTHER PATTERN.
Thanks
Zoh
If you cant login by computer then go here
HTML Code:
https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery
...And if you don't remember your secret (recovery) question then try the following method (check the link)
EDIT: you can also try this (very helpful to lot of ppl with the same problem) http://www.docstoc.com/docs/39761478...d---Locked-Out
Any way try all the methods and let me know if it works...BEST OF LUCK

this solution is with thanks to another person on another site...
You need a WiFi connection available for this to work!
1) Call your phone from a different phone.
2) Answer the call. While still connected...
3) Hit the BACK button on the phone (the arrow softkey)
4)This takes you to the home screen (it might take a few attempts, it depends on your timing. It took me 4 attempts)
5)Drag down your notifications bar and turn the WiFi on if it isn't already.
6)Close the notifications bar then hit the MENU softkey, select Settings then "Accounts and sync".
7)Click "Add Account" and select Google.
8)Sign up for a new google account as normal.
9)When the signup process is complete (and it must successfully create an account) you can hang up the call. (Do not sync the accounts)
10)Now when the phone asks you to unlock it using google credentials, use the ones from the account you just created. It will now ask you for a new security pattern, then for the same pattern again to verify.
11)Once you are back into the phone, turn off this "feature" until Google release a fix for the bug.
12)You can now delete the "false" google account which you just created from the phone. You should log into google and delete it from there too really.
13)Now reboot your phone. When the phone starts up and it still says "Phone Locked" don't panic!, Just drag the screen out of the way to unlock the phone, just like you did before you activated the pattern security.

No problem I´m glad it worked, now I can write it down for myself incase I run into this issue myself haha
Alright. The screen broke on my first Captivate because I was clumsy/stupid. Put the claim in for insurance, got a new phone, set everything up. Nice shiny phone, what could go wrong? For one single contact, it 'forgets' the area code when I go to message them from contacts or reply to their messages. I have to type in their name and choose the number from the drop down list. Very annoying as this is the person I text the most. I've seen two other threads on this subject, but there was no mention of a cure. I've tried deleting and re-entering the contacts, to no avail. I tried using GO Sms, it has the same problems. I have stock 2.1, running LauncherPro -in case that matters.
I think I'm in the clear to bump this, as it has yet to be resolved and it has been a month. Please. anyone? I'm certain I'm not the only one to experience this problem.
I just started putting the area code into my contacts' phone numbers. I did it on my PC in Google's contacts app, though.
If only it was that easy. The area code is in the contact's phone number! I click reply to a text and it will often disappear! Thanks for trying though. I remember reading once that it was a bug in the actual contact management itself, but I thought the great people here would be able to come up with a solution.
Edit: Actually, I am adding this contact to google contacts as I type, maybe your suggestion will work after all! I'm no sure yet do to the sporadic nature of the bug.

I think these methods worked for many people. Use one:
1. Do a full factory reset.
2. Open messaging
click new message
Add offending contact to the send list
click to type in the send list and hit backspace until you have deleted the incorrect phone number.
then type in the correct phone number.
type a test message and hit send to fix the contact permanently.
3. Delete the contact. Ask the contact to call you. In the call log, long press and add to contact
Adding to Google Contacts didn't work after all. I am thinking of Flashing a custom ROM tonight once I decide on which.
Thanks for the help though! It is really annoying.
Went to install an app and noticed my number is wrong. I actually just now remember YouMail would have the wrong phone number for my default login as well.
So somehow when my sim card was setup, they missed a digit. Ive read the iphone is able to write a # to the sim card as can some other phones (though not all write it in a way the galaxy s can use it i guess?).
So my question is is there a hidden dialer code or app or anything im able to use to change the number, or does this have to be done OTA by the carrier or in one of their stores? Im hoping im able to just do this myself and get it done with.
Thanks!

The only rom which you have the possibility to change your number is CM7/miui , but somsung roms don't give you that options , with cm7 you can go into setting - calls - advance setting , then you will see your phone number options
I've tried to set a voicemail number on my phone, but it will not save.
I've tried going to Voicemail > Setup > Voicemail Number, entered the number (1416) and then clicked ok.
The phone closes the dialog without displaying an error, but the voicemail number still reads as <Not Set> and the voicemail notification still says "Voicemail number unknown", though clicking on the option again shows 1416 already filled.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
make a contact as voicemail, enter the number, save. done.
oh, and ignore that setting, its probably not for your provider.
I did that, and I can call from the contact of course.
Issue is I get the voicemail notification, and when I click on it it just takes me to the setup menu.

Seriously? They've left that as an unresolved known issue for this long?
Since the "Phone" app isn't on the play store, am I correct in assuming that it's part of AOSP? or is it Google made?
If it's AOSP I'll go write up a bug report, I did some searching over there earlier, but didn't see anything. Wanted to make sure I wasn't just being dumb before I submitted a bug report.

First i thought it was a problem of my ISP but it works on LG, Samsung and WP phones so its a specific Nexus issue i guess. Somehow i always get the message: Unable to change the voicemail number, contact your provider. Have that on the N4/5/6.
From what I'm seeing this seems to be a problem with the dialer on vanilla android, on non-US carriers. Maybe you guys can provide some extra info to validate this theory.

LG/Samsung: That fits my theory - they have their own dialer apps.
Error on N4/5/6: Was this in Europe? I've seen several posts about European users having this error message. Please let me know the carrier/country.
Edit: Netherlands on T-Mobile?
So maybe this problem only occurs on stock phones on certain carriers in certain counties?

Anyone activated DIGITS and tried out the app on S8 yet?
If so, what are your impressions and annoyance?
I signed up for the beta back when it started, just put it on my Verizon iPhone 7 (work) and it works flawlessly.
On the S8 there is no additional app needed, it's all integrated into the stock ROM. The dialer and SMS apps let you choose which line you want to call or text from. It also tells you what device made a call. Works flawlessly.

Yep, i was on unbranded firmware which was missing the Multilines settings, so flashed back to official TMO firmware and now everything is seamless without a hitch. Enjoying DIGITS although I don't have plan to carry 2 numbers.

My apologies. I should have included the fact that there is a known issue with the location of those settings on the S8/S8+. Another manager in my district activated Digits, rebooted his S8+ and the Multi Line settings disappeared. I along with him & others have reported it to the Digits team and apparently there is an OTA update coming to address it. In the mean time they've suggested using the Digits app for those having issues.
I'm on the AQC9 with all updates blocked and it's working flawlessly so I'm not sure where the issue resides

I have the s8 and the gear s3 and digits works fine without a problem didn't have to set up anything on the phone. I have 2 lines one for me and one for the wife.
I just wish I could put my S3 line into digits.
Ok I work for T-Mobile and I know how to make the digits multi line setting appear. It's a process though so get ready.
First you have to log in to the T-Mobile app. So if yoiu don't have it or deleted it download it again from Play Store. Log in and hit the menu button > usage and plans. You should see a button that says to unlock digits. Click it.
A message will then appear telling you multi line has been added. But you need to restart your phone for it to show up. It will be in clouds and account in settings.
I can't upload any screenshots as mines is activated already and the button goes away. But after thatnjust sign in to your t-mobile account.
Now FYI!!!!
You need to have someone registered as the PRIMARY ACCOUNT HOLDER ON MY.T-MOBILE.COM BECAUSE WHEN YOU ACTIVATE YOUR DIGITS NUMBER AND PUT IT IN. IT SENDS A REQYEST TO THE PRIMARY ACCOUNT HOLDER TO ALLOW THE NUMBER TO BE USED ON THAT DEVICE! IF NOT YOU WILL GET STUVK WITH A "WAITING FOR APPROVAL " MESSAGE FOREVER AND HAVE TO LOG OUT AND STSRT THIS WHOLE PROCESS OVER. ADDED A PAH AFTER WON'T SEND AN APPROVAL TEXT.

I know, two months late here, but I'm wondering if you ever got that figured out. I've done the same with an AT&T phone (TMB/TMB/ATT) and can't get the multi-line to enable. Hey, yeah I did manage to get it to work. Had the same issue, using Nova I could get to the multiline settings but no options actually worked. I ended up swapping my sim into an actual T-Mobile phone that has digits integration (S7 edge), then unlocking it on their website for Digits to work, and then swapped it back, and I got the little popup saying that multiline was enabled. Seems like the sim has to be provisioned.
I like the Digits Apps for Windows and MacOS. Its like having iMessage. The only issue I've had is that text sent from the PC don't show up on my phone. Still nice though I can send and receive text on the PC. I can also make and take phone calls.
