I think i need your result about SGS
please vote and post to hold topic up.
I will be able to answer this question once Samsung/Broadcom release their "updated" GPS driver.
Yes but no! )
I love my galaxy s but don't feel I can answer yes just yet... when samsung hold to thier promise and deliver software for a fast phone with stable GPS then I will give it a resounding yes... until then, I love it... but not enough to commit myself! )
I am very happy with my device!
if you choose NO, please tell us WHY ?
Yes and after flashing to JM1 rev.3 - extremely so! Can't wait for Froyo!
Of all the smartphones I have owned so far, I love this the most. So definitely YES!
YEY
It is a great phone. Except the GPS everything just works. So when GPS is fixed, I think I will stay with this phone a long time being happy. That means > 1/2y
Shouldn't this be in the General section?
I am not quite happy with this phone. I switched from Samsung Omnia HD, the most powerfull symbian device to date, to check out the wonders of Android. Except for the multitouch, unfortunately it doesnt have anything better than Omnia HD. I am sorry to state this, because I really thought it would make a difference. But having to download an application for every single little function that should be alreayd there, it's really frustrating. It's just my point of view. Maybe some other ex HD owners think otherwise. There is not at least a led for the camera (otherwise good pictures during the day, I admit); there is no option (unless u use an app) NOT to show the whole world around you your SMSs; there is no option to choose what connection to use (unless to start and stop all kinds of data applications); you cannot choose any song you please for any alert in the phone, unless you move the respective sound in some strange folder in the phone; there is no way to choose where to install an application; gprs connection only works after I restart the phone and after a couple of hours it just doesnt transfer anything anymore; you cannot send via bluetooth unless you install an application; you cannot choose if you want or not the messages to be shown as conversations and many many more.
Dont get me wrong , the phone is very good and has many good things, but unfortunately, as I was saying, it is very very dissappointing not to have elementary comfort functions already in the menu, but to have to download little stupid apps for everything.
Conclusion: I will buy Nokia N8 as soon as it reaches my country.
PS: I dont what the famos GPS problem is, but mine with NDRIVE works great and in real time. Strange, I know.

so, you choose 'NO' becuse of Android OS.
Yes I am happy with it, it is a great multimedia device with the ability to watch films etc. on a big super amoled screen.
But I am annoyed that you have to do loads of tweaks to get everything working and lag free.
Quite alot of people would never think of flashing firmware and performing lag fixes. They would probably have been better off with the Desire which works out of the box.

Haven't voted yet. If they get GPS working I'll keep it else it's being returned as "not fit for purpose."
Overall, I am very happy with my SGS, It came with JF1 but is now running JM1, which reduced the lag a little, but thanks to RyanZa's Lag fix, the phone is too fast
Not had any need to try out the GPS and am not too fussed as its a bit of a gimick to me.
The wife has an SGS too, still on stock JF1, and she loves it, won't let me speed it up though as she is very happy with its Stock performance, having come from a Nokia N97 that crashed on a regular basis and ran like a two legged dog with no sense of direction...

Yes, unfortunately Android OS is not quite ready to be used , at least for someone coming from Symbian OS. It reminds me of older Win Mobile, few good years ago.

And would you mind explaining in just a few words what this LAG is, that everyone is talking about? I find the speed of my device just fine.
I am currently, but I am assuming GPS will become somewhat functional in September. I bought it to improve my productivity in many ways, and it does.
But, if the GPS isn't fixed, even though I rarely use it, I'd have to question if it is the best choice for me...
I am happy with the device but not the samsung service or their ability to fix problems quickly.
Over 2 months now and the gps problem and the lag problem have not been fixed. And then I look at Motorola and HTC and how quickly they come out with fixes and updates.
Plus looking at the development going on with their devices like cyanogen mod etc I am not sure if my next upgrade will be a samsung device. I might have gotten seduced by the Samoled screen but my next phone will be the one google chooses next as its development device as all these other phone might have new bells and whistles but they should add to basc android not subtract from it as many do currently.
This is truely the first phone that works great if not perfectly right out of the box!

So this started in the Cognition thread, but I figure it probably is useful for other ROMs and people.
So are you like me? You've hooked up your bluetooth mic, and pressed the voice action button and your phone looks at you stupidly? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way you could start Google Voice Actions or possibly Vlingo's Recognize and Execute?
Here's the thing, currently Google Voice Actions and Vlingo can't hear over the bluetooth mic. Still, this will launch the voice app, and allow you to speak through your phone's mic.
I've considered creating a version where you can select any app; however, unless there's some demand for a feature like that I don't want to go through that kind of pain and suffering.
Feedback is appreciated.
Oh and finally, this is a very early version, so you won't find it on the app market or such. If I have time, I'll polish it up, but for now, this is good enough to fix the issue for most people.
If you find this useful, please let me know. There's no reason to polish something no one needs/uses.

1.5 Beta
So this is a little rough around the edges but it is functional. The first load will be slow, but application names are cached after that load. Still need to indicate what the user has selected in the past as well as sort the list.
2.0 Beta
Fixed the rough edges, nice radio buttons in the list. Sorted alphabetically. Oh and TheYar suggested waking up the phone to run the action. Not only is it doing that, but it'll bypass the screen lock.
Now some are saying, but wait isn't that a bad thing? Well yes and no. First the screen lock comes back when the action is complete, or bluetooth launch closes. Second, bluetooth headsets must be paired first to get access, so a thief would have to know to grab your headset and phone to get into your phone. The risk is low but not 0, so in the next version, you'll have a way to turn that feature on or off.
2.0.1 Beta
As TheYar pointed out, there's a bug where you may have to hit the bluetooth button twice. This is a bug in the underlying framework and there's nothing my app can do about that. That said, I added a vibrate on launch feature to this new version. No other changes were made.
Change Log:
11/19/10: 2.0.1 Beta Vibrate on launch
11/18/10: 2.0 Beta Choices shown, remembered in the list, sorted alphabetically (so learn your ABC's) and phone wake, lock screen disable.
11/17/10: 1.5 Beta Select any activity, better icon
11/12/10: 1.1.1 Updated some text, added icon
11/11/10: 1.1 Added Settings and Vlingo
11/10/10: 1.0 Initial Revision

Sweet!
Unfortunately it doesn't do anything for me, running Cog 2.3.3. I've turned my headset on/off, BT on/off, no response to button.
Pressing "Confirm Selection" doesn't do anything either, should it?
Update - Rebooting makes it work, stupid me...THANKS!

Confirm selection saves the settings. I should change the name, thanks.
It shouldn't require a reboot, but there may have been something subtle going on that a reboot fixed.
Updated!
Added some polish. Launcher icon + text changes to make things more clear.
I think it would be handy if there was some text to confirm that the settings were set.

If I understand what you're asking for, I think the text at the bottom is just that. I'll see if I can re-word it to be more clear.
Coming Soon
So I had some time to play with things over the weekend, I'll be releasing a new versions soon.
Features will include:
Selecting the activity you want to launch
Better icon (not washed out)
This app works very well. You did a great job man.
Teaser
Got this working today, takes way too long to load right now, and only shows the names right now.
Hooray. I am happy to report that I can now use my BlueAnt T1 to control the Google Voice Commands. Awesome! Even though it passes the audio to the phone my headset still thinks my phone does not support it. But it works well enough for now till I can get an updated firware on my T1 headset.
I'm using Cognition.v2.2.Beta7.UCJI6 at the moment.
Beta Version Up
New version up, calling it beta because of the rough edges.
Enjoy!
Updated to the new 1.5 BETA. I switched back to my Plantronics Voyager 855 until I can update the firmware on my T1. The beta works. Thanks again for releasing this.
Wow this is great. I've been wanting to voice dial on my Captivate ever since I got it and this is the first time I've been able to do it.
I've noticed that often it doesn't respond until the second time I try to activate it. Maybe this is just a delay, not sure.
Any thoughts on how this could function when the screen is locked? Google voice actions are pretty powerful, so I doubt that full voice action functionality would be possible from a locked device. But maybe someone has some 2.2 source from another platform that includes how a call might be initiated over BT even when the screen is locked?
Thanks for this app. Loving it.

It appears to be a bug in the handling of bluetooth with the system, I can reproduce it without my app. Basically it appears that the system isn't releasing the bluetooth handle in a reasonable way, as my headphones that do bluetooth to both an iPod and a phone at the same time won't start playing again. I wish I could fix this.

This is a good idea. Look for it in a few minutes.
I just got done adding 1.5 to another DG ROM zip and decided to check here before flashing it. I'm am so psyched!!
Since you seem to be greased lightning on feedback and improvements, I'll throw another one out there - voice feedback into the headset speaker to let you know it is ready. I know that this functionality might better sit with the launched app (and sometimes does), but perhaps a configurable option to detect when the launched app has launched at least, and then react by saying "ready" or such in my ear. Then I'd care even less than I already do about the handle release problem with the bluetooth stack.
As for the lock screen bypass... yeah. I'm a security pro myself, but I agree that the risk there is low and acceptable, compared to the risk I face trying to security-unlock my screen while driving. Watch out though, people tend to freak out on this issue. The press went wild when the Droid opted for default Voice Action access through the lock screen, referring to it as a major security bug and design flaw. Of course, in that case it was accessible even without a headset, just a long-press of the search.
Let me know when this hits market and charge money for it, or at least offer a donation. Gladly pay. Considering this is the first time I've been able to accurately bluetooth dial since 6 years and three phones ago, you are officially a genius.

Your previous comment came in at just the right time to add an extra piece to the development cycle. The feature was easy, so I got it in. That said, playing through the bluetooth device appears to be a hard thing, I'll see what I can do about this. The easier thing to do, which I'm going to put in place soon, is to simply vibrate the phone, so that'll be the first step.

This is why I want the user to explicitly configure if they want this behavior. I'll look at adding a menu with settings. I want to get that done before I add in playing though the headset.

Actually, this is my first app, so I haven't paid the fee for developers to the app store. This is relatively simple, but I may put in a paypal link for development supplies. You know the standard: sex, drugs (beer), rock and roll.
I don't want to tip my hand for the other ideas I'm going to work on, but once this is mostly complete, I'm going to start on my next couple of apps, which I'm affectionately calling "Ring Rules" and "When I Get Home" right now. Those will likely have free and paid versions in the app store. (Assuming I get enough time to write them.)
Word, vibrate on launch. Dug. My handset is usually in a cradle or empty seat or sliding around the floorboard somewhere, so I might not get to use it much. But definitely a worthy X.X.1 enhancement. Looking forward to the other two apps you tease there; if my guesses are correct then they would both be of value to me.
On the lock-screen bypass: definitely, making it configurable would be preferable and snazzy. But on the old Windows Mobile Voice Command, this was configurable and disabled by default and it still got a good bit of bad feedback as a security bug. My 2 cents would be to make the setting work like the USB debugging setting in a stock ROM. Enabling it requires you to acknowledge a pop-up that warns and explains the risk. This might limit the number of armchair professional comments you get in the Market that are all caps and scream about how your app has security bugs and allows people to hack androids and steal all the datums and megahurtz off of them.
Hey thanks for this app, used voice dialing and commands all of the time on my Tilt with WinMo 6.0, only real downside of Android is not implementing this feature in an easy to use format IMO. I'm still figuring out vlingo but I can finally use my BlueAnt ST3 the way I used to, or almost anyway. Thanks again.
I started with yur earlier version that did Google Voice only, then the one that you could choose between GV and Vlingo.
Just installed latest version, and getting FCs.
I don't know if it is because I am selecting wrong COM item under (I've tried several under Vlingo, and get double vibrate, then FC each time) the app, or this application itself. But bringing up a long list of all the different components of various programs makes it immensely more difficult to get an operational program.
Going back to earlier version for now.
[EDIT]
I was able to get it to work with Google Voice, but never did with Vlingo.
I now realize that 3 vibes is normal. I'd prefer an option to turn that off.
Really Microsoft?? The much awaited, much anticipated "NoDo update" and all we basically got was copy & paste?? Aside from that I don't see much difference in the performance of my phone. My phone is stock with minimal apps installed on it and it is still a piece of **** and missing some features that would've made me keep this phone. I was holding off getting rid of it to see what this NoDo update had in store and it was pretty much a waste imo. NoDo sucks, Windows Phone 7 sucks, good thing I still have all my Android phones to fall back on. I don't even think the recent news of Android possibly being ported to the HD7 is gonna keep me from not getting rid of this phone. Craigslist, here I come. Let's see what kind of trade I can get for it cuz I don't even want money for it.
P.S. Microsoft, the C&P ain't even that great!
I'll Give you a +1 regarding the NODO update being not as much as we would like it to...
But with regards to the OS itself I personally love WP7 having Come from android and having flashed hundreds of ROMs on my Hero
I think MS has done a brilliant Job with WP7 ( Yeah we still dont have a lot of Apps)
But It comes with the ones one would normally use in daily life
like Facebook, ebay, live messenger etc and not to mention the brilliant email system which lacks in android (For me the email part is the best I have seen) and the ability to pin to start my favourite apps or even websites.
I am sure the MANGO update will solve our woes and am seriously looking for a NOKIA Branded WP7 as that definitely be a killer phone.
As of now I am pretty happy with the phone as it serves my daily purpose.
But I Guess Its a Personal Choice

Why don’t you look for a job at engadget if you want to rant about how terrible this OS is. Your profile shows you as a member since 2008 with 169 posts mostly about android. Exactly..Android enthusiast, other OS curious. I've had Windows phones in the past but didn't like them much. (T-Mobile Dash, the silver T-Mobile phone with the slide out keyboard-can't remember the name, the Touch Pro 2) The phones themselves were fine, especially my Touch Pro 2 that I regret selling to this day but Windows Mobile was never my cup of tea so I switched to Android when the G1 came out. I was curious about WP7 when it first came out which is why I bought the HD7 but Microsoft has not been able keep my curiosity with this new OS. It is boring to me. Once again the phone itself is dope but the OS isn't kicking it with me..it gets boring rather quickly. The reason most of my post recently are Android is because I have 5 Android phones and only one WP7 phone that I ain't liking much right now. I wouldn't consider myself a fandroid troll like you labeled me because I try other OS's and try to like them and don't live by Android completely. You think I like dishing out $400-500 for a phone just so I can come into these forums and talk **** about the OS on it?? I also own an iPhone 4, a Macbook Pro and all 4 generations of the iPod Touch which is something I'm sure you wouldn't hear an iOS enthusiast say. WP7 sucks IMO..that's my opinion and its not coming from an Android troll.

Use the wifi toggle method. I kept waiting and I forced it to update to nodo.
Toggle on airplane mode. Then turn on wifi. Plug into zune and let it update. Find the average time it takes to say no updates available. Then do it again and turn off wifi on your phone 1 or 2 seconds before it finishes searching for an update.
Took me about 15 tries or so but it finally worked!

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you and agree with the original poster, i have had this paper weight around since November to see what this update will do and its crap, nothing important changed.
You say great email? The HD2 email system was fifty times better for two main reason: Select All, and ability to view many email addresses on one place.
You praise that you can pin it to your home screen? hell any phone u can do that, and it will even tell u how many emails you got on the home screen.
But for a real email user who has several accounts to track with over 100 emails per day per account, WM7 version is crap, I have to go back to the home screen every time to access the diff account ( should be able to select which account I want to view when in email reader, basic feature, HD2 had it, why not HD7? this is a newer OS with lack of common features? makes no sense.
Then I have to tap and open the selector and then manually select any where from 30 to 100 emails to delete? manually? i mean comon windows 3.1 had select all, 15 years ago. Same for SMS, u cant select all to get rid of lots of emails.
Our color options of the live tiles are still designed for a 5th grader school girl.
The Hard ware is great, no doubt, typing is much better and the way you interact with the phone, but the OS is just bleak.
One of my biggest ? for Microsoft... In what century did man develop the rational that placing data in a table vs one verticle row makes more sense? I wanna say some time in BC?
when you open up my programs on you desk top, yes u can select to have them all lined up in a row and be long as hell, but u can also place them in tables so you fit more data on one screen since were dealing with a smaller screen. why do we not have that option here? every phone even before touch screens displays programs and data that way. ....???
Im sorry guys, ive said this before and will say it again. this phone has one great feature, you can spy on your friends via face book faster cuase your home tab will tell you when they are taking a dump.
other then that, is a great piece of hard ware, running a strip down windows3.1
and the more you look into the Nokia and Windows working on a phone together announcement will show you that MS realized that this phone flopped, and that they need to do something drastic now to get back in the game.
Hi guys,
Moving from Nokia Lumia 920 to Nokia Lumia 930. Neither has SD card. Phones are developer unlocked. I keep phone number and etc.
Is there any way to keep my message history?
PD: I know it's an old question. I just can't believe there is no solution yet. Are WhatsApp developer so useless they won't use native app backup feat?

Thank you! Will try that. The tricky thing is that Lumia 920/930 doesn't have SD card. So I need the ability to move the data somewhere else. Or do something else I don't know of, of course. :silly:
In WPPT ther is a window Isolated storage, just copy the whole main folder by clicking on app name and Get to save on hard drive. After all you can import folder into app.

Haven't used WPPT in ages. Will look into that. THANK YOU! (again)
Unfortunately, I fear this won't work. As far as I know, WhatsApp saves to *some* other directory, since it is able to find backups after the app was uninstalled. I had the same problem, but then my old phone died and I lost the messages anyways.. But at least 4 months ago, it didn't work this way. I just wanted to tell you this, don't rely on it.
I think it's because WhatsApp got the medialib photo full capability, to be able to write/read to storage before wp8.1. Maybe they used that to store the backup somewhere else.. on WP8 with SD card, they even put it on the sd card as far as I remember..
Has anyone had any luck with any other method? I would love to know how to backup Whatsapp messages / data from my Nokia 930.
Nope. Really frustrating.

Agreed. I guess you could just email them to yourself, but i hate that option and is a complete waste of time.
Also, be aware that you will loose any audio message and there is NO way to back that up.
Have you contacted them to ask them to enable cloud back up?
They don't bother to answer you anything more than a "currently you can't". "Talk to the hand" philosophy.
Apart from that. How is your windows phone experience?
I'm really satisfied. I love the user interface, it has all the feats I need, very stable, very sturdy devices (Lumia)... I don't picture me switching over some other existing platform.
I see you had a Lumia 930 yourself and a lot of Android devices. Even some BBs and iPhone. Any particular reason you ask?

I'm a smartphone addict! haha. Well, I was. I'm quite tired of Android. Even though devices change, get faster, have different materials... They always end up being the same... I want a new UI. So I had the L930 for a few days, had some really bad bugs like battery drain and got really hot. So I returned it, and got the LG G3, which is sitting on my desk. I pulled the plug again and got the L930 again due to pricing (a lot cheaper than my G3!, which has begun to lag... and for a near 500 euro phone, I can't stand that...)...
So ... That's my story! I love all smart phones, really, except the iPhone. I just really want fluidity, my apps (like for Google Music, Google Tasks, even though I don't mind switching task managers, LINE messenger and Whatsapp), and stability (like battery, and UI).
I think WP is a good bet! I just wish the 1520 cost less xD I would have purchased that one! But it costs 150-200 euros more than the 930! At least now I'll get more out of my Samsung tablet! haha. That way I have a tablet with all my "Android" stuff, and a phone that just... works
Hopefully this L930 won't come defective! From what I read, all I'd have to do is reset the phone after installing all the updates and then I'll be good to go! =D And this time instead of white, I got a green one! Woohoo!
Where do you host your contacts? And email? From outlook or gmail?
Hahaha.
I've tried Android but got tired: they always ended up lagging, crashing, etcetera. I never had to hard-reset my WP once I got them running. And I feel pretty comfortable with Windows. Even my Tablet is Surface (Pro).
I can't tell you much about the issue you experienced with the Lumia 930, I've still haven't switched my Lumia 920. But I never had that kind of experience by far. Were you running some app that could cause that? Battery for me lasts a approximately a day (WhatsApp, mails, news and calls, mostly). And definitively no overheating. Also the Lumia 930 in Spain should have at least Cyan updates... There's not much to update.
Regarding contacts, mail and calendar, I've always used Hotmail/Live/Outlook. And Live Folders/Sync/Mesh/SkyDrive/OneDrive. So, kinda "natural" for me since all gets in sync with WP. I have Gmail just as a secondary account. I did use Gmail in WP for some jobs (Gmail enterprise). Integration seemed to work, at least the basic stuff. But Exchange is Exchange...
Hey guys, I'm looking for some testers for my Free-Droid application. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and is perfectly compatible with the Galaxy S5.
This software should be most useful to people new to custom rom installation. It takes from you the hassle of looking for TWRP and a Rom, it downloads everything for you (including magisk, microG and F-Droid) and does all the flashing on autopilot. For those users starting from scratch, it also helps setting up the drivers on windows machines.

@imska have already posted on your main thread. .....
As far as the "Odin" look. Well, Odin, is much easier to read. Seems that some things, are Under others. As if the display is 1 size, with more info to actually have space for. (e.g. In Expert- towards the bottom , " -install google sync" is actually, Under the words "Only change these setting if you really know what you are doing" ! So yes, need to clean up this Free-Droid a bit.
What is confusing a bit, is where to work and where to look. Terminal has all the major things running like Passwords, IS the phone connected, etc.
one more Issue... Info- Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P Sprint KTLEDV ); Currently, Running LineageOS 16.0 (build date 22Jul19) w/Magsik!
Terminal says I am running a custom Rom. The Free-Droid Windows says that it does not know how to deal with my phone....
So Do I take that it only works with "Stock" images?
Oh, On Github, I did not see the galaxy S5 code name KTLEDV in your approved list??? could that be the issue here? Just not added into the system?
Hopefully you can get this cleaned up. Willing to try test it out again.
Just give me a shout, when you have a newer build out....
Tanx
Thanks for testing!
It does not need a new build to fix device detection... I did not know of a SM-G900P variant of the S5, but I just added it to the codename lookup table. Now it should recognize your device as the kltedv and know how to deal with it. The tool finds LineageOS, RR and AEX for the kltedv
Unfortunately, there is no official release of TWRP for kltedv and therefore Free-Droid will not be able to install stuff if a user is still running stock rom. Which TWRP do you use and where can I find it?
About the terminal output:
The stuff that gets printed there is just logging. You can just ignore it. A terminal window does not even open on windows or mac. Entering sudo password in terminal is only relevant for linux users and could only be avoided by setting up udev rules...
The "running custom rom" detection is there for the tool to decide whether to look for a TWRP image or not. So in your case, the tool should work now. For other kltedv users running stock, I will need to add a TWRP image to my archive.
Window layout / text positioning:
I have no idea why things do not display like in my screenshots... Can I send you a .jar to test if the layout is better?

Hey there! Please, was not "*****ing nor Complaining" about your app. Had read this thread, and the Link to another. Only had 1 person say it worked. I am always on the lookout for just about anything, that makes me life a bit easier!
Was on me laptop, Toshiba P55 (15" 1080 screen, no touch, 4th gen i5, 16GB Ram, and 1TB SSD running upto date Ubuntu 18.04.02) and was not running any other programs ( I had seen that I would have to use Terminal for password. That's OK with me, like a bit of control. Had some error there, popped up twice, both times trying to run it. Before asking about password. Everything seemed OK from there.
But the layout was not as Pictured in Pic 3, in the OP.
Oh, me phone. Actually I am on Virgin Mobile, which is that same the Galaxy S5 from Sprint on same network. TRWP, currently on build 3.2.2, there is a newer build out, but this still works well, believe it came out back March or April of this year.
I just thought, that it needed a bit better layout, so others, do really get into a mess by missing a line or 2. That would stink!
IF you would like me to test something, I am "OK" with that. Just send through PM message.
I can see, how this really can be nice, am not sure where it looks for ROMs and such.

No hurt feelings. Can you please replace the Free-Droid.jar file in the "bin" folder of the application with this one and report back if the layout in the expert pane is still messy? And you could help me investigate the issues on startup if you click "Report bug" in the help pane of the application and send me the created zip with the log files.
Thanks

You asked about an email. Did you want that sent through the link on your other thread (something like bug at Free-Droid) Or a PM here through XDA?
Asking, ahead of time, have yet tested. Will be very soon, but, because I am not sure where to send you an email.

Edit- Forgot to throw Git-Lab into the mix, as places to report any sort of Bug. (yep, I always try and look up what ever Srcipt, On Github, Git-Lab, and/or LineageOS Gerrit!)
Tanx Again.

Hi,
I'm looking to install the kitkat 4.4 os onto my samsung galaxy s5 and was very excited to see your new app written for people like me with not much experience in doing this sort of thing.
I thought it would be a good idea as there is a lot of apps on my phone that i don't use and I can't uninstall them and I'm running out of room.
Unfortunately this program couldn't detect my phone after plugging it in to my computer via usb and following the instructions to turn on debugging via usb.
Here are my phone and machine specs:
samsung galaxy s5
SM-G900I
Android Version 6.0.1
Baseband version G900IDVU1CQD1
I'm using windows 7 to install
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Alright. I am a noob that has been reading the forums for a long minute. I have no idea what I am doing as far as flashing, rooting and customization goes... and I need to learn. So instead of using my S8+ I have decided to use my old beloved S5 as my test subject to try and understand what is what ect, ect, ect.
Is this a good place to start? I have a MacBook Pro I can use and/or a Lenovo with Windows 10 that I can use as well. I guess I am hoping that maybe I can get a Thumbs up from someone that this may be a good place to start.
I can do my best to report any thing back if it might help...
Thanks.

It depends on what you aim for... If you just would like to install lineageos on your S5 then you're welcome to use free-droid for that. If you would like to really understand what everything means and how things work, I think free-droid might not be the right starting point, because it is meant to hide all the (more or less) complicated stuff from the user and make the installation as easy and convenient as possible.
If you choose to use it and something does not work as expected, you're welcome to report back here.

If you are on windows then this is very likely a problem with drivers. Have you tried the "still not detecting" link below the instructions?
For those of you who also own a Sony device: Free-Droid is now compatible with Sony devices!
0.7.5 update should also fix an issue for some variants of the Galaxy S5 like the kltedv (SM-G900P)
I just do not get it, there are so much good things in software but why for gods sake they have to be installed from galaxy labs? I have the phone for couple of months, just now discovered that we have something like sound assistant, keys cafe and many more. Why Samsung can't just add those features into the build?
Others are complaining Sammy puts in too much.... Now the choice is yours whether or not to install!
People complain about apps and the inability to remove them.
goodlock and stuff are just features in the sense some of them could just be implemented in the core features of the OS.
for example I just use Keys Cafe to remove the WWW option from the samsung keyboard as its annoying because it makes the space bar smaller and end up hitting the dot everytime.

That's my point, all of those features should be available in OS natively. Such a stupid thing, when we have submenu for lets say Keyboard and we have to install additional application to add just 4 options, same thing with sound. Full submenu, but things like Bluetooth delay etc must be added by additional application. It just doesn't make sense, even if they are "afraid" that some people may "brake" the phone, just add something like advanced options and put all of those features there, and they could be even turned on/off by flipping single button in options.
1. Power users dislike bloat and what you are wishing for will translate to bloat or unneeded features for people who do not use it or need it. TouchWiz all over again.
2. Apps used to be included into the ROM update which caused delays for bug fixes and new features being available to users so updates are faster via the app stores
3. You don't need to use the Galaxy Store if you don't want to. All Samsung apks are a search away on apkmirror.com. They can also auto update if you install their app

You do not get the point. Most of those functions should be built into ROM. Not as apps, even I didn't know that some of them exist...
Also blending them into rom will not make it sluggish, not sure where did you get this from but you are wrong

He is right.
You have the choice to install it if you want to.
For the ones who do not, they don't have anything to do.
It's better and easier this way around.
For example, the only add-on I use is One Hand Operation, so I'm not gonna be glad if I find 200 other options and don't know how to turn them off.

That's a lot of functionalities that could be bugged, use resources, be turned on... etc...
This is not a lack if you can install them.
I understand your point but you have to understand that Samsung's are designed for everyone, not power users.
Those people do not want options, they just want a working phone out of the box. They can be lost if they have too many thing to understand.
So if you want more, you can, that's all you need to know.

But nice 1200usd Phone and we must install additional functions form the stare, where we do not even know ghat they exist. On top of that, 90% of those functions existed 10 years ago in Cyanogenmod mod made by amateurs during free time...

1. I am complaining as those options should be melt into system by default, there is nothing preventing them from doing it.
2. I know NOW, but terenie was no info anywhere that such options can be added so plenty of people do not know about them.
3. I would like to know why they do not want them by default. Lets say I do not want AoD build info rom. Can we have it removed and have it available as app in galaxy stare? Seriously think, if you have an option YOU DO NOT have to use it, so how someone might say "I do not want to have optional thing in my phone", what a strange logic or lack of it.

It's probably to reduce space as not everyone is going to use all the goodlock modules. If they were built into the system users would be angry at the fact they are taking up storage and resources when it's much better to have the goodlock app and choose what you want.

100mb more when phones have 128GB+ and Rom itself is 4gb? There are so many bloatware apps which cannot be uninstalled and you think it is to save the space lol? Heh that make so much sense.

Exactly, there's already so many bloatware apps so why add more by adding goodlock and all its modules.

But they would not be an bloatware but rather system functions. I się noone complain a about and, Dolby etc
What if Samsung would put a list of those apps with a short description both in the User manual and one app on the desktop to control installing the extras.
