So, my super smug friends with their super gay Iphones are rubbing it in my face that I can't "face chat" although I remind them I can copy&paste without a 3rd party app that doesn't shut them up.
How can I get facechat to work on my phone? I know it almost worked with the beta version of opera before they switched it too the "new" facebook.

Works a treat (for standard facebook stuff). I'm not sure what the 'facechat' is, to be honest.
skyfire allows you to read the chat messages if someone tries to chat with you but you can't do anything with it no i haven't seen anything closer than that.... but i don't think the iphone can do it either, iphone doesn't handle full flash so you shouldn't be able to do it on that lemme no what you find.

What you are looking for is Yiego. It's kind of a Skype-wannabe. You sign up for their software, like you would for Skype and you get an IM app that includes all the usual like AIM, Google Talk, MySpace, but also includes (drum roll) Facebook. I've yet to find another app that does this.

Just play something in java or flash and tell them to shove off. Or open an email attachment or mms without having to type in a series of cryptic passwords and jumping through dozens of hoops. Or install a freeware/3rd party application without having to "jailbreak" your phone.
Not saying I don't like iPhones, just don't like fanboys of any sort.

ok so this might be the wrong thread and if so the mods will move it but my question is what do the nexus one users or even the android users think is the best twitter app? i used to use twidroid and it was great but i havent used it since the switch to "twydroid" and used tweetcaster as well for not very long. i used touteir probably the longest and then switched to the official twitter for android. so i wanted to know what people like the best and for what reasons so the people who are confused as me can choose easier. thanks

I'm not really active twitter user but its great to read the latest news.
I used seesmic, touiteur, tweetcaster, twitter but i'm using touiteur(paid for more accounts) and that was the one i liked. It looks really slick and it works as it's supposed. the notification is also different and nice.
The only thing I loved about touteir was that you can change the colors of it.
I only use touituer as it looks the nicest UI, and I also use the official Twitter app for its system notifications and its integration into contacts app and the OS.
Twigee is the best twitter app for me.
Twicca for me
I like Seesmic because it has a widget that's dark (I like dark themed widgets).
As for the application, they're all pretty much the same and I've used seesmic, twidroid, tweetcaster, twicca and twitter for android.
Twicca is nice but the widget doesn't show tweet previews. If it did I'd probably switch from Seesmic.
+1 for Twicca. I've tried most of them, and found this one the best. It has a great UI IMHO.
Only thing missing for me is multiple accounts. Certainly worth trying out nonetheless.

I'd say Twitter for Android is the most stable, since Seesmic crashed on me when it was doing a couple of things at once, i.e. geotagging my post and uploading a picture.
Haven't used Tweetcaster though.

i LOVE tweetcaster and Touteir. these are the two apps i use the most! its hard for me to choose which one to use so since i bought both, i find myself switching between apps every so often. i uninstall one n install the other. or ill just have them both on
Still looking for a new twitter app
For the longest time I just used SMS (on WinMo), then when I moved to android, I used SMS and Peep since it came bundled with my EVO. Well, I started really using twitter, so now I follow tons of people/bloggers/news. i set up lists to differentiate the streams. Way back int he day I had a desktop app that let me separate/make lists to keep streams separate. Is there something like that on android? I was thinking that swipe left or right could go through the different lists I have made, but I haven't come across an app that claims to do anything with lists. Currently I am testing out twitdroyd as well as Peep, but it doesn't seem that it doesn't anything substantially different. I know it has a pro version, and if it does what I want I wouldn't mind buying it, but it just has a vague "list management" feature, and the free version is "list viewing". List viewing is not as integrated as I would hope.
Any ideas or recommendations?
one thing twitter for android has thats awesome. the twitpics show on your profile instead of having to click the link.
I like Seesmic since I have to use two accounts so for multiple accounts I would choose Seesmic.
If you only need one account then I would say probably the official Twitter client.

What is the best IM app for the Captivate in terms of battery life? I am trying to decide between AT&T's stock app, Trillian beta, or AIM.
EDIT: I do like the capability of multiprotocol (I'm a Digsby user on PC, having used Trillian for PC when it came out for Android), but multiprotocol is not necessary for me. Only AIM and FBchat are really important.

I'm using GTalk right now and I like it overall. My biggest gripe about it is that you can't change the conversation style of the chat windows. Specifically, I can't change the font size or resolution of the chats which is problematic because there are many times where I can't see the actual chat window once the keyboard is up. For example, I use Smart Keyboard which adds the word prediction line on top of the keyboard, which then additionally has the input box ontop of that. If I write more than 1 line, the box size increases further and it gets to the point where I can't see the recent chat lines.
I've downloaded Trillian to give it a try and I loved the look of the chat windows and interface overall. It uses chat bubbles instead which I think looks cleaner and more organized (I think KiK Messenger has the best look). Even better, the entire client uses a smaller font which is nice. I also like the black theme that is standard in the app. The things I didn't like was the persistent icon in the notification bar as I don't like icons cluttering my status bar that aren't actually notifications. I unchecked the "ongoing" notification option in settings which didn't do anything at all but I believe is a bug. The second thing I didn't like was how it didn't allow me to swipe between active chat windows. I've gotten use to this in GTalk and it was very intuitive and second nature to me. Thirdly, I didn't like how the input box didn't expand when you typed more than a single line. It would just keep scrolling over which I find annoying as I don't get to review my message in full before I send it. Finally, I didn't like how they had 2 send buttons - one beside the input box and one as the return key. I'd much rather have the emotion button down there like I have it in Gtalk. These 3 things made it a deal breaker for me unfortunately.
So yes, I'm looking for a good IM app as well in which at least GTalk and MSN is included. I googled Meebo and but the look of the interface has already turned me off. I'll take a look at eBuddy however.
Ebuddy is best. I have tried all even paid one like bjive. Ebuddy worked best.

The question is what is the best client in terms of BEST BATTERY LIFE.
All of you are simply answering according to what IM client simply works or has nice options.
Anyway, out of all the messaging multi-protocol apps I've tried, the default IM app bundled with AT&T/Samsung that handles both AIM and MSN has been the most power efficient, however it's trash due to it not being able to switch seamlessly (or at all) between wifi and 3G (last I checked, maybe they updated it to not suck?).
Out of actual useful universal clients, I've found Fring to be the most power efficient.
I haven't tried too many individual protocol apps as of late, however I noticed that anything with MSN/WLM tends to suck up more juice than something like AIM or gtalk. Perhaps the MSN/WLM protocol just uses our radios more/less efficiently.
The official AIM client was okay. Pretty much every dedicated MSN/WLM client I used sucked up power like nobody's business. Gtalk is easily the best out of the single protocol clients. Kik is even more power hungry than MSN/WLM apps.
I was using the trillian beta and it was pretty decent on battery life. But any multi app that runs un the background is going to kill you r battery.
On Cognitions latest and greatest. Don't ask what version DG pumps em' out to fast!
@JPS: I'll give the stock app another whirl. My phone is constantly on 3G anyway, so it's no different.

I was pretty sure that all the stock IM applications that came on AT&T phones didn't use data, but rather SMS. At least that was the case on my first cell phone (Ericsson Z500a), my a727, Blackjack, and Impression (all Samsung phones btw) so I could be wrong. The only thing that might have used data was the initial sign in, but that was never shown as a data charge on any of my bills since 2003.
i love the phone... love the interface... but i do a lot of IM'ing thru yahoo,gtalk, and FBchat and i cant find any app for that...
i thought all phones should have that... and i was surprised the windows7 phone dont have this feature.
so if there is no IM client i can use, i consider this phone FAIL for me. Will return
Yes there is a free IM chat in Windows Phone 7 Market Place. Look for Messenger WP7-2 by Miyowa. It functions very simliar to desktop version of Live Messenger.
But thats only for messenger... I do a lot on yahoo chat and gtalk... Thats why im beginning to hate this phone. I cant use my phone nemore to chat. Im stuck on my laptop for now.

Yes ... I understand what you are saying. I think those would be developed fairly soon. This is a new Phone OS and the more phones that are sold, the more likely great apps will be developed. That said, some basic items are missing that should have been included in launch.
I wonder if you can get to Google chat through logging into Google account via the browser. I`m going to try that along with Yahoo.
I think the reason for the delay in Chat apps is that WP7 offers no Socket communication at the moment. Everything has to be done with Web Requests. Since most Chatting programs use a TCP or UDP port it may take a while until either someone develops a Web interface for those services or Microsoft update the SDK.
And a quick note... I tried Google Talk via the webrowser. It requires a plugin, but when I tried to download the plug in it says windows phone does not support .exe files.
Yahoo chat was more promising, but Adobe Flash 9.0 needs to be installed. Flash is not supported yet on the phone. It wouldn`t install so web chat through browsers won`t work at this time.
Let`s hope the chat clients are released quickly !

Another interesting note. In my MSN Mobile Canada app, there is also a place to login to IM. Never knew it was there !
hahaha even the zune hd has a messaging app where you can message on Live IM and Facebook chat.
Does Zune HD have Google and Yahoo chat ? If yes, then that would be a good sign Microsoft would bring it over to WP7. Even if there wasn't, I can't imagine that it would be very long before it is available to WP7. They are paying developers big $ so I'm sure there will 1000's more apps and IM clients on the way. What Apple did in 5 years with iPhone, Microsoft will do in half the time if not less.
I really love my HD7 and WP7. Everything that's available just works with nice looking interface.
Like all of you, I need YM, Facebook Chat & GTalk badly. Without these, I could never use my HD7 as my main phone.
I am also enjoying my HD7, it just has to be understood that this OS isn't a month old yet and the development of new apps take time, they cannot just be ported over from previous OSs. I for one like the direction this OS is going....still waiting patiently for a tethering app.
I think people are letting MS off the hook when they say its a new OS that why some thing are missing. The first Pocket pc phone edition that came out in 2000 had MSN messenger. That was 10 (Ten) years ago.
Yes there certainly was a few features missing out of the gate. No doubt Microsoft will fix. Now that they have the phone out in the market we either return it, or find ways to make it work until the app is developed. I know my iphone was missing features when I bought it but Apple finally came around.
As for Yahoo chat, try logging into http://m.yahoo.com/messenger from the browser. It seems to work quite nicely. Again short term work around.
And on the theme of accessing chat clients through mobile browser (two examples provided earlier), here are a number of Web-based (cloud) IM services that are either free or have a small charge for paid service. Seems to be very good solution as many of them integrates all chat clients into one interface (kind of like Fring).

the point is, it should be a default on every Phone... Instant messaging should be on of the defaults of this new WIN7 OS

And if its so important, then why do I not know one single person that uses it???
I think it is a cultural difference. In the USA, we tend to stick to text messaging since most of us have unlimited texting on our smartphone plans.
So, there have been a ton of complaints about the facebook app on windows phone 8. Am I missing something? Why would anyone put an app on thier WP8 phone, when the People Hub ties all that together? I don't even have a facebook app installed, because everything I need to do is done from the hub.I can post an update, check in, see my notifications, whats new specific to my stuff or my friends that I have grouped exclusive.

Nothing. Some people are not used to having working things out of the box, so they just download apps to replace what the system already does.
My point exactly. I would even go much more further, I would ban all FB, Twitter... apps from the market since they r not needed at all. Instead, I would want some RDP apps for free, also some good database apps etc...

There is quite some functionality in the Apps though that is not available in the Hub. It's conversation views in Twitter or Groups in Facebook. If you use those Features you can't rely on the People Hub alone.

Groups in facebook? Isn't that the same as Groups in the stock app? I don't do twitter, so cant answer to that. But still have found more functionality as well as easier interface when using the stock app on the phone.
I think OP has to look at things way wider. Maybe you just treat your phone more personal...
1)Facebook app can allow me lend my friend/families the phone and he can have a quick look at his facebook. (more social)
2)Facebook allow me to take control of another account I own( not saying about pages though, not sure WP8 facebook app can allow users to manage the page we owned)
3)respond to friend request.
4)As for myself, I have subscribe to many funny pages and news ones, the endless timeline give me look at what I have missed unlike the facebook/twitter integration,it does limits certain number of news/tweets and we can't scroll down after that.

Yea, my friends are goofballs. If I let them have access to my phone, I get crazy posts on FB, and my profile picture suddenly changes to a crotch picture. So, no one gets to screw with my phone except the better half (and now Jr thanks to Kids Corner). But then again, I do the same to them!
And I don't have more than 1 facebook account, but I see where you can add accounts, so maybe someone who has two accounts can try to add an account under thier different one? Might allow it, although, I think it would merge the two, which could become confusing.
And I have not noticed friend requests, so will have to see if I get one recently and see how that works.
I see where your coming from, guess since I am not a power user I don't utilize all the capabilities that FB has, nor the native / 3rd party app.

Groups are not the same as WP Groups (well, something similar exists with the lists Feature but that's an entirely different Topic).
Facebook Groups can have members and have there own pin wall, calendar, etc. You can use them e.g. to bundle all the Information on a certain Topic like e.g. when you are part of a certain Club. To my knowledge I can't Access those from the People Hub.
I'm only using two of them but those pretty frequentlly. There are other Features not used by everyone but rather important to others that are not available in the People Hub.

It's missing a lot of the interaction you'd get from the website or a third-party app, for instance:
The messaging app does not pick up Facebook message threads, for one (Just chats).
You can't edit your own status updates.
You can't friend/unfriend people.
The Facebook People Hub is meant more for getting the basic info on people that you have on your contacts list and to keep them in the loop on you. That's it. I think these limitations are by design.
