[Q] Downgrading from 2.1 to 1.5 possible? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read somewhere that downgrading from 2.1 to 1.5 using the Ruu isn't possible. I've tried using the 1.56 ruu and I get the 140 error bootloader issue. Is there any work around or am I stuck with 2.1 for good?

Not that i know of..unless you have a nandroid from 1.5

You can root and flash an old 1.5 custom rom. If you want it that badly.

Downgradeing from Stock

I have a HTC Inc S with CID 038.
I upgraded to ICS stock with the goldcard method. I want to downgrade to GB or froyo.
How can I do so?
My phone is compleatly stock with no root or custom recovery. It is S-on locked bootloader.

Why would you want to revert back to froyo? There is a high chance in bricking your phone.

Ok maybe not froyo but is gingerbread possible. I have a horrible battery life and face wakelocks all the time.

I guess it would be pretty hard to revert back. The easiest way would be to root your phone and either install a GB-ROM or revert back to stock, because than you get to GB using an RUU.
Can you give me a detailed process. Right now I have ics 4:0:4 stock with sense 3.6 . No root. S-on. How to install stock gingerbread. Cid 038

Since he installed the official ICS from a RUU, he has HBOOT 2.02.0002, which currently doesn't work with the tacoroot exploit that the downgrade script uses.
ah okay. Didn't know because I rooted mine before ICS-update... I'm sorry but I guess without Tacoroot there is no way to downgrade your hboot...

Well there is if he unlocks the bootloader and roots the ROM, then you could run the misc_version app to change the mainver to 2.00.0000 (that is the key to the downgrade script) and then he could flash an older RUU with HBOOT 1.13.
It defeats the true purpose of the downgrade script which is an alternative to unlocking the bootloader via HTCDEV.com, but it is a solution if you truly want S-OFF.

Sounds pretty difficult for just downgrading... If he would like to stay S-Off I would do so though. As often, root is the solution.
Well it seems to be hard work just to downgrade. I'll just wait for HTC to give us an update to fix these issues hopefully.

You can write to HTC's costumer service. Maybe they can tell the guys to fix it. Maybe... Good luck!

The command syntax can be found by reading the script:
echo Waiting for device to connect
files\adb wait-for-device
echo Device found
echo Pushing misc_version
files\adb push files\misc_version /data/local/tmp/
echo Correcting permissions
files\adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version

Stock HTC ICS ROM downgrade/revert back to Gingerbread
I had a similar problem this week-end.
I was originally running on the stock HTC rom, but with unlocked bootloader via htcdev, clockworkmod recovery and superuser root (but still S-On).
I then received the ICS upgrade (for which I had to revert to standard recovery and system by flashing with fastboot in order to apply it)
ICS was awful (for me bluetooth really unstable, kept not disconnecting after target device was powered down, and then just opening the bluetooth settings would crash the phone - even after I factory re-set it, it was the same), so I wanted to go back to gingerbread which was rock solid.
So for me the process after a lot of trial and error was (from memory) to get back from standard HTC ICS (which was hboot 2.02.002, software version 4.10.xxx) to standard HTC Gingerbread (hboot 2.01.xx software number 3.11.405.2):
- unlock bootloader (from htcdev.com) (I ended up being given the same unlock_code.bin file that I had from the last time I unlocked the phone, even though the 'token' text was different. This is the third time I have unlocked the phone (I re-locked then re-unlocked during an earlier OTA sw ugrade) and each time the unlock file is identical (binary compare equal). Even so for the sake of it since it's a binary file flashed directly I think I'd be safe and still use htcdev to generate a new file 'next time' just to be safe.
- flash custom recovery (i used 4ext) using fastboot
- root by installing superuser using 4ext (making sure to use newest version of superuser = version 3.13(? _signed arm v7). The previous version of superuser that I had used to root the Gingerbread HTC ROM (v3.0?) didn't work with ICS, it flashed OK but still had no root when the phone was running as I noticed by trying to upgrade busybox from within it's app.)
- run the misc_version tool from adb shell and set version to back 1.00.00
- re-lock the bootloader (I think the command was "fastboot oem lock"). This is necessary in order to allow the RUU to run. Took me a while to figure this out as none of the posts I had read mentioned this was necessary.
- apply the RUU for Gingerbread - I originally ran a very early version with hboot 1.13 in) then ran the later ones to bring me back to the last gingerbread version before the ICS upgrade. I don't know if that was strictly necessary, perhaps I could have just gone straight to the one I wanted.
- re-unlock via htcdev (same unlock_code.bin)
- flash custom recovery
- then I could have re-rooted as before but I actually restored an earlier nandroid backup of my rooted HTC gingerbread system so got root that way
Sorry for the lack of specific detail and file name/versions, I'm not a home where all my files are so I can't be sure.

Hi abhijay,
i am on custom rom , how can i go back to stock using gold card, can you please share the steps

Reverting to S-ON

how can i Revert to S-ON i have tmobile us htc one i need to send my cell phone back tomorrow thank you...
First off you need to be completely stock. Hboot and all. Sinse tmobile hasn't an RUU for the one you will need to flash a stock nandroid(you should of made one) it needs to has all the stock partitions(recovery, system ect.) If you don't will need to find a stock nandroid on xda. And adb flash stock recovery. Most importantly you need to flash stock HBoot (you will brick your device if you try and s on with nodded hboot) it will tell you how to s on were you got revone.

Going back to stock for 4.3 update and 3.22

Hi, I want to get 3.22 firmware and 4.3.
So, i'm planning to go back to stock by using recovery mode (odexed) by mike1986's guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
Then, after going to stock, i would update through HTC OTA to get the 3.22 firmware.. would this work?
By the way, I'm s-on with 1.54 hboot, so i think the only way for me to get the latest firmware(3.22) is through HTC OTA update in the stock rom.
Thanks everybody!!
Anyone? will this work?
If you're just going to flash a custom ROM and kernel, why are you trying to get the OTA?
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
so I could get 3.22 firmware? haha does that make sense?
Is there anyway that I can get 3.22 firmware with s-on and 1.54 hboot?

Nope, only through official stock updates afaik...
But yeah, I think you're steps are right:
1. Restore stock nandroid backup
2. Restore stock recovery
3. Re-lock the device using (I believe) fastboot...
But not completely sure myself still either...
I'm also wondering how to go back to stock. HBoot 1.54, S-on. Im on .206 so the first method wont work for me I think. I can't find a decent tutorial. Still quite noobish when it comes to this stuff
Hi guys,
I am the same, S-ON with hboot 1.54 ,, and all I want to do is to get the last update firmware , as I understand it is something that can't be flashed with a ROM like ARHD 22 so what are the right steps please. and what are the risks if there is any.
thanks.
It seems this is the way:
1. Restore stock rom/nandroid backup
2. Restore stock recovery
3. Relock the bootloader using fastboot, with this command: fastboot oem lock
That SHOULD be it I think,
Should I get the odexed of v4.1.2 1.29.1540.17 then wait for the htc one update in the phone to get the 3.22 firmware?

I've been asking myself the same questions today and researched about it, then made this post for clarification http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2462048
Basically, afaik I'm running 3.22 having updated from 3.17 (Maximus HD 13.0) to 3.22 (Maximus HD 14.0) via OTA. I also have and always have had hboot 1.54 and S-On
Ah, you're looking for the firmware upgrade. When I flashed the 1.29.1540.16 RUU to grab the update and get a system dump I had to downgrade my firmware and hboot in order to get the RUU to flash. I'm s-off and I was on GPe firmware, so this may not pertain to anyone in this thread.
I believe the stock nandroid and recovery would be the only way to go for s-on devices. If you're already on the latest firmware (prior to the new 4.3 OTA) and hboot, there isn't a newer RUU yet. And since you can't downgrade due to s-on, you'll have to use a nandroid and flash a stock recovery.
I may be completely wrong, so please correct me if I am.

I was under the same impression, but as it turns out 'build number' in your Settings/About/Software/More IS the firmware version, and mine is 3.22.1540, and I don't have S-On, I have hboot 1.54 and I just did an OTA from a custom rom on base 3.17 to the one on 3.22

So it was the official OTA from HTC, or an OTA that the developer of the custom rom pushed out?
But if you have S-off you could just downgrade, RUU, then receive the OTA anyway, so it doesn't really apply.

Custom developer, but I still am running the latest firmware am I not? Only thing I am uncertain about is whether the baseband version corresponds to the one on 3.22, and why does it say "OS-2.24.901.1" on my bootloader

OTA's from dev's will not include firmware. The version you are seeing in the setting menu is the version listed in the build.prop, it isn't actually showing the devices firmware version.

So having S-On, hboot 1.54 and no recovery of my stock android, what can I do to update my firmware and radio ? My CID is CID_401, I can't find any RUUs or nandroid backs for it
Edit:I think I have a TWRP backup of my phone i made one day after buying it, although I think it is after I upgraded to 4.2.2 OTA (stock) and unlocked and rooted. However it should still be a stock backup. Will this help in anyway? (Note: I use CWM now)

Radios are flashable in recovery.
The backup will work if you can find a stock recovery to flash, then relock the boot loader and receive OTA. If there's even an OTA for your CID yet.
Though the backup being rooted may cause the OTA to fail.

I meant if you are S-Off no need to relock bootloader to run RUU. If you are going back to bone stock to take all OTAs and then root using 3.04 then you will need to relock bootloader but if you are just going to stock to take OTAs and not bother rooting 4.3 then might as well lock bootloader but keep S-Off in case one day.

Just nandroid, or just flash the Rom you want and the kernel. I would also back your data up to your computer as you will have that 0 folder.

Got one, I'm just scared of bricking my device again as I tried flashing firmware from 3.xx to 5.xx and ended up bricking it.
Will this happen on the way down too?
Is it as simple as flashing firmware.zip, then a custom recovery and then a custom rom or guru reset?
