2 problems i have on N1 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
I face two serious problems on my N1 which is running the latest CM stable version
Well i use my sdcard to install apps on.Today i install many themes and icon packs through market and those were not all installed. After that i could not access my sdcard and also couldnot unmount it.i tried to remove apps but on the screen i saw that was looping on calculating size of each app.is this my sdcard problem? or i am doing something wrong
Other problem is that on gallery i see fotos and videos stored everywhere on my sdcard. Is there a way to stop specific folders to appear on gallery?
can also anybody tell me where i see which radio image is installed on my phone?
is cm updating radio to latest version?
Regards

To exclude certain directories from the gallery, put a .nomedia file in the directory you want to exclude.
I use Astro file manager to just copy an existing .nomedia file from a directory that already has one.

thanx m8 for the reply.i will try your suggestion as soon as i get a working phone

CM or any other custom ROM doesn't update radio.
When loaded, Settings / About / Baseband will show you the version.
Both of the problems you describe aren't CM bugs, or bugs at all, for that matter. Looks like your SD card got corrupted, if you're not able to read it correctly - get it out of the phone and work with SD card reader (save the data and format the card). I'd suggest changing the misleading thread title.

Need help installing apps from zip file

When I look in my sdcard, some of the apps that I've backed up end up as zip files. According to search, I should be able to just rename it from .zip to .apk
I did that, and tried to install, but it keeps giving me a warning that says this app cannot be installed on the phone.
Why? and how can I fix this so I can install these apps back?
Thanks
maybe because changing extension names on files makes them unstable. look in app private. im sure the zips came from the apps folder it happens like i said look in appsprivate folder

Hi, you cannot access the files. =(
hello,
it's not clear if you want access file within android or just connecting your SD card to a computer.
Can you install apk file (i.e. downloaded from market place?)
i want to access files within android because i want to install apk files from memory card.
i tried to install apk files from market palce but after selecting any application, it shows downloading but doesnt finish download even after several minutes.
I have had similar problem, my 2GB sdcard was not full but I could non use at all, I formatted full FAT32 and put back the file. This solved the problem.
any luck
Are you saying that when you use something like OI file manager, you can not see any files on the memory card ?
i want to rom version of android2.2 too.

i dont have a solution for your problem, but if you have .apk files put it in the "Androidapps" Folder on your sdcard via PC and then run Android. It install automaticly if you start Android.

[Q] Audio/Ringtones/Notification Problem

Recently just installed XXJVO on my SGS, everything is working fine except the fact that alot of my ringtones and notification sounds are missing, since they was already backed up I just copied the folder to System/Media/Audio but it doesn't read them. Just the ones that was there already, I've tried copying the audio folder to the SD card and rebooted my phone several times. If I go to Root Explorer and go the directory all the files are there
Any Ideas how to fix this?

Read somewhere a guide. Don´ t know if this help you out. Create on your sd a Folder called media, in there you create a Folder called audio and in there you create 3 Folders called notifications, ringtones and alarms and put the mp3 files you want in there.

These is file ".nomedia".
Aha ok. I think an app created the folder with the .nomedia file. The .nomedia file hides for example pictures in gallery app.
what application that creates it?
I have it as well. Which app is it?
I have it too! Dont know from where its come
I have similar folder and i found that "Office suite" create it.
I have it too in my SD! :S:S:S

I think it might be swype keyboard that creates it. Or maybe Nandroid Online Backup.
office suite
no it's definitely office Suite
Every android update we are getting an extra folder lol
TapaTalked from my Xperia™ Z (C660²) running Dirty Unicorns ROM!
The .nomedia file that is usually created to hide media (audio/video) is a zero byte file. This OTOH, is an 80 byte file with some gibberish that appears to be encoded in various languages. Definitely a marker file from some malicious programme. Could be even towelroot!
Here's the text from the .nomedia file copied from es file explorer text editor:

Yes, But, Why, And Why Now...
Just got this folder with cryptic extension .eCtcQjbu1dgnvtFnvnr6yepTp1M= an hour ago, with its 1 KB .nomedia file (*), when I resumed my tablet on the PC USB (99% held ok for 9 hours),
BUT—Windows (7) also complained that the external sdcard (the location of said) needed to be scanned...which...was also all okay (after a lengthy scan time on 16 GB)...
I have the uptodate OfficeSuite 7 (com.mobisystems.office version 7.5.2129; USB storage in use by the PC), as well as the oem OfficeSuite (ver 1.5.290; enabled but never used)...
(N.B. Sometimes when I turn On the USB storage the estrongs file manager app will complain.)
Ray.

Did you ever figure this out for sure? I am curious what made you think it might be towelroot? I used that APK but it is not on my system anymore and I just had another strange directory appear with naming similar to the ones in this thread.
I do not have the office application or others mentioned in this thread so that rules those out.
I can tell you that the directory name is clearly Base64 encoded. It decodes to more characters but I don't know their meaning yet (looks like gibberish/random).
In the last month the directory has appeared twice on my internal storage and SD card in the root. Both times I deleted it along with the .nomedia file that was 80 bytes.
One other detail... I noticed most threads about this topic are related to Xperia phones but I happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S4.
Yup. I transfer files between my devices, and I had this folder on both of my nexus (Nexi?) N7 and N10! This Folder on. Dell 7 disappeared: after reflash using mykit_batch. Surprisingly, after formatting and reinstalling from flashtool, both XZ are clean now.... go figure!
Edit...
This is the nomedia text from my N10

j"zルュツレc[k「絵4─Lユ"ヘ!殼6ネッ閭堕ワjIn*

Finally. I solved what caused these strange directories and files for me.
In my case it wasn't the transfer of files. It was a an app. Others had mentioned OfficeSuite caused it and I found out they were right, but I didn't have OfficeSuite which confused me.
I found out I had the Oxford English Dictionary which was from the same company as OfficeSuite.
Every time I started the app it would re-create the folder and .nomedia files.
My phone is rooted so I did a little more looking in to it and there is a file in the application's directory under /data/data/<appname>
So in my case it was:
/data/data/com.mobisystems.msdict.embedded.wireless.oxford.dictionaryofenglish.full/
Under that folder there is another folder called "files" which contains a strange file called ".mssnDatabase2". If you notice the file is 80 bytes in size. It happens to contain the exact same data as the .nomedia files that are created.
So that's how I figured out what was creating the strange folders for me. I hope that helps others.
BTW, the application (the dictionary) in my case appears to send the company quite a bit of info they don't need so I uninstalled it. You might want to check yours too.
I have this .eCtcQjbu1dgnvtFnvnr6yepTp1M= folder too with inside a .nomedia file
I dont know which app created it but i think it is office suite because i installed it and few others apk. However if i delete it after some time it come back.
Just to say
An OfficeSuite folder. A genius way to name it, whatever the dev was smoking.

[Q] .Nomedia doesn't work

Hi , I 've put a ".nomedia" file using FileExplorer. I put the file under Android/Data. to include all folders.
Clear gallery cache + restart the phone. The photos still show up under gallery.
ı read couple topics on this forum. They all say nomedia should work but nope for me! Any ideas?
last note: I'm working on Phone memory. No SD card involved.
Also I've read the related topics gentlemen and ladies but NOPE not working)
1) Can no nomedia be used under parent directory or should be added to each folder seperately?

the .nomedia file needs to be in the same directory as the images you don't want to show.
also if you using stock rom you can hide folders you don't want to show
