It's been like that lately. Either somebody got pissed, nobody answer or somebody will tell you to use 'search'! At least nammyczc decided to be cool.

the bootscreens on the galaxy s platform is harder to change because it uses something else than most android phones use.. samsungboot.mpq or something. instead of the bootanimation.zip we are typically used to.
If you're lucky enough to find boot animations in that format then you can definately change it.
As for the shutdown.. you can change it in one of the folders.. I don't quite remember well but seriously, Search. This is like the third time I answered a boot question.

Sorry but I dont know what else to do

If this is a noob question I'm sorry I've been around these parts for a little while and even though i know how to root the G1 im having a hard time un-rooting it.
OK I just recently traded a buddy of mine's white G1 for my Bronze G1. Its a little ruff around the edges and its a little messed up so i was going to do a warranty claim.
I'm having an issue with trying to get the splash image to reset it self better yet I cant get it to work whatsoever. every time i go and do the whole
run
cmd
cd desktop
cd fastboot
then type "fastboot erase splash2"
It hangs there and just says <waiting for device>
I have done this and have changed my splash image on my bronze g1 a million times with no issues but for some odd reason its like it doesn't recognize this damn phone?
while I'm here I've also had issues after flashing the original spl and placing the DREAIMG.nbh file on the root of my sd card going into the bootloader and it not giving me an option to do the update. it just goes from the "rainbow" screen right back to the "rainbow" screen am i doing something wrong?
I would love to resolve this before my replacement comes in the mail just in case T-mobile feels like giving me $hit about the phone being rooted.
Once again I'm sorry if this maybe a misplaced post or if its a noob question but from what I've seen I'm the only person having these issues
Answers for unrooting are all over, a quick search would've yielded plenty of answers. Questions go in the Q&A section, this section is for devs and testers.
1. replace whatever recovery image you're using with the stock recovery image.
2. use the RC29 DREAIMG.nbh to downgrade the phone and "unroot"
3. pack it up and ship it.
This takes less than 5 minutes to do and T-Mobile gives you plenty of time to ship the broken phone, so need to do it before the new phone arrives.
As an aside, I know four people who've shipped rooted phones back to T-Mobile and never heard a peep.
EDIT: if your phone isn't seeing the .nbh file its probably because your SD card is FAT16, it needs to be FAT32.
I guess you must have only read part of what i wrote.
i know what I'm "supposed" to do I'm writing what my phone is doing while in the process. yes i know its only supposed to take 5 minutes and I have googled and have searched. I'm not being lazy if that's what you implying
you find somone or somewhere where someone has had the same issues and i will apologize. re-read my post then answer again thanx
p.s. and yes my sdcard is and has been formatted to Fat32

Then why did you post this in the development section?
I wanna be I wanna be a moderator
God forbid I placed this in the wrong section.
I figured, maybe a DEVELOPER might know the answer there for I posted it in the DEVELOPMENT section but forgive me father for I have sinned.
Please move my post so the people that obviously don't know the answer can stop coming in here.
Keep insulting people. That will get someone to help you really fast.
Try reinstalling your fastboot drivers. Its probably not recognizing it as its a different phone and has a different ID or something like that
if your not in here to help then why are you in here? people like you are the reason this forum is slowly going down. I'm just asking for a little help.

thank you very very much i will try that
I wasn't going to help you, but I decided I will since I am not a doosh. I had a very similar problem. I agree that reloading the driver is a good idea. But that wasn't all I had to do. I had to reload the driver with the latest driver from HTC. You can find it here. http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
Thank you very much i appreciate the help and yes updating the driver worked perfectly thank you.

Have u tried searching this site using boot animation? I did and came up with a variant of CM's boot up screen. I am using the one where the android is dropping boxes to spell out CyanogenMod. Now I love to reboot the phone lol...

this website doesn't have a section dedicated to boot screens...if it does please link me to the section. I'm looking for a collection of android boot screens all in one place. I don't want to hunt and peck through threads looking for them. I'm hoping there is some where on the internet with some sort of organization similar to sidekick themes for instance.
geezzz, noobs!
You should search. Really.
This has been discussed countless times before.
This website doesn't NEED a dedicated section for boot animations.
What you will find, if you had bothered to visually scan the Nexus One forums, is a sub-forum titled: Nexus One Themes and Apps.
Within there I found these threads:
nexus one boot animation the attached file that you find there is a zip file. Unzip that to your computer, and browse the two folders it contains. That should give you an idea of how they are made.
[Boot Animations] & [Live Wallpapers] Nexus Holiday in a variety of colors more here with preview animations, so you can choose before you download.
{MOD} Bootanimation [Blade, Laser, Blazer] *Six6Sicks* 7/25/10 has a Cyanogen style to it. I like this alot!
After following those above, you should check out: [SCRIPT] Random Boot Animations v1.3 (Updated 2010-04-20, works on CM 5.0.6-5.0.8).
I haven't used the tool/script mentioned here.
But in the first post, you'll come across SAMPLE LIST OF BOOT ANIMATIONS. You'll find eight links to others.
(i bookmarked it. i actually would not have found it if i didnt search)
On a different subject, Live Wall Papers. Everyone loves them.
You might want to make your own.
[Live Wallpaper] Custom Creater 2.6 [SCRIPT] [WINDOWS]

I'm going to call you lazy.
I'm going to call you a newb.
Don't be offended.
I've helped you alot more here than others probably would have.
You may even get more help. But really seeking, you aren't the first nor the last member wanting help to make their own bootanimation.
The information for this and countless other Androidâ„¢ related projects are out there. They're in here. You just gotta invest in the time it takes to find them, just as I've invested the time and patience it took to copy/paste all those links for you.
PAY IT FORWARD, help someone else out.
If you find something worth sharing, please come back to this thread and post it.
Some other newb may need it.
Hey, I appreciate that you are trying to help me, but I've gone through all of this. I've been using xda since the original tmobile mda on windows mobile. Searching is nothing new to me, especially on the updated vbulliten version of this place.
This is not a matter of being a "newb" or being lazy. This is me asking a question (in the questions and answer forum) about any websites other than xda that might have a collection of boot screens similar to how the sidekick had a website that had nothing but themes.
I know its "cool" to tell people to search and to call them newbies (even when they hae been members longer than you) but you are completley missing the point of this thread.

I9000 rom, should i flash back to stock before flashing something like cog.

Just a quick question....just wondering, im running the geomod rom right now and was just wondering if it is recommended to flash back to stock using odin before i flash to the latest cognition....or can i just flash cognition right from the rom im running???
Thanks in advance!
Definately. If you don't "something" gets left behind as, for sure, the startup gt i9000 logo at startup will still be there. At least, it was when I did it anyway.

i notice lots of posts like this, and i wonder, 'in the time it takes to get an answer back from the forums, you could have already flashed back to stock and reflashed your phone with another rom.' why bother asking?

it has NOTHING to do with i9000 or captivate roms, or even not wanting to answer the question...its called common sense, some people have it, and obviously some people dont. i question peoples common sense all the time and notice that as time goes on, people use less and less of it.

Just wondering if you have any done any quick searches. I have used the search function many many times and often found that even though the questions might have been answered before, they do not show up in the search. It's not like this question is posted on the Captivate Android Development section. It is posted in the right section so why ***** about it?
As to the OP, I wouldn't know since I haven't flashed a i9000 rom yet but if you have any problems, you know that you should go back to stock and flash cog.

And i thought the iphone users were the ****in ass holes....a lot of times the general quick search doesent come up with exactly what im looking for...and with these phones you have to be precise with what your doing...thats what the Q&A forums are for....and if it concerns you that much just exit out of it dont post gay ass comments
Preach it brother! It has been verry frustrating getting info on any androis phone. It seems that the devloupers live in their on little world and are to good to help out someone who needs info.
I do have to chime in here and say that this is actually could have been answered with commone sense. i9000 is for the european community. So with that said always flash back to a stock condition when going either way from i897 to i9000 or i9000 to i897. Once on that base rom then you can choose to flash either back to stock or just flash over provided you are going to the same based rom
However I can say that even though this may not have been asked exactly before there are more then likely references to what to do in this instance in many of the threads. Again it also sometimes helps to think outside the box when doing a search as well.

do you feel guilty not having any common sense?
congratulations, you have joined the majority of society.
seriously, though. go to ANY friggin ROM thread on these forums and the recommended way to flash is always FLASH BACK TO STOCK!!!! how hard is that? where did you get your rom? did it magically show up on your phone or did you download it from somewhere and follow some instruction on how to install it?
i know that in your anger, you will refuse to understand this point of view, and thats fine. the info is there for semi-sane people to comprehend.

[Q] How do you get bootup animation sounds to work on the zio?

Does anyone know how to get the boot up sound to work for the boot up animation?
I'm using a zip file with the desc.txt file in the zip along with s and the name of the sound after the s along with the .ogg so like it will be in the desc file s bootup sound.ogg.
I have tryed to put the sound in /data/local i have tryed putting it in /system/media and i also tryed putting the sound file in /data/flex/bootanimation no luck the animation plays but no sound. For kicks i even put the sound file in the zip it self just to see if it would work from inside the zip like the pics do to make the animation i know it wouldn't work but i did that just to see as a last resort. It wont play the sound.
I'm using openzio v2.1.2 and am stuck on how to get the sound to work with the bootup animation. I believe my desc.txt file is right as it works to resize the pics and the frame rate.
i have attached my desc.txt file to see if it is right, i have read if you have 2 folders and want the sound to play with the first set of pics then the cmd has to be between the 2 part folders.
Bump question still hasn't been answered
Honestly this forum is dying, we could have all the developers that this thing ever needed and there still wouldn't be much activity.

With that attitude I won't bother helping you unless you change your attitude. I was looking into this issue after I made that post earlier. Now, I've looked at your desc.text file and it looks fine to me but then again idk. I'll look around some custom animations to see how they have sound working.

yea sorry i was having a very bad day yesterday and it wasn't right for me to do that so i apologize for that. i have looked at others and even used others lines cut and pasted it into mine desc file and still no go. so i do apologize for that once again.
It's okay, I wonder how the FLEX animation has sound...

Does anyone have a boot logo/boot animation/shutdown animation guide?

I've got an N920t and i would love to put a simple 1st boot screen and add my company name and number to it so, if it's stolen, the average person won't have a CLUE how to get rid of the logo.
I would also like to be able to change a cool animated GIF into the animation that pops up after the initial boot.
Lastly, i would like a decent shut-down logo.
I've downloaded Samsung's theme editor and it looks like i was created for the "yesterday" phones. I know where the qmg files are in the system/media.
I just don't know 1) The screen dimensions 2) the conversion process of whatever to qmg. 3) whatever else i may have missed.
Can anyone help?

Samsung Theme's have nothing to do with what you want to accomplish.. It sounds to me like you don't fully understand what's involved with trying to do what you're asking for.. First of all you'll have to root the phone possibly voiding it's warranty just to get to the files you'd have to replace to begin with and if you don't fully understand what you're trying to do you could possibly turn your phone into a paperweight! You might want to do some research before trying to do what you're asking for..

Yeah dude, don't over think it. I'm way way way WAY past a simple rooting. I've installed 100s of roms just not messed with themes very much beyond the occasional bootanimation.zip placement.
But, a piece of advice, next time just say "i don't know" because you really didn't answer my question, you were about as far away from what i asked for as an answer could get. I explained that i checked out the Samsung theme editor, not that i expected it to work. It was just a step i went through.
If i didn't know anything about theming, at all, i wouldn't know about the extension or placement area i mentioned and since you didn't really give any answer of note (beyond a generic warning that's been in every root and rom since the beginning of time) i'm thinking you don't either...
Please, don't give your idea of "help" any further.

Then maybe you should have thought more about what you were saying in your first post and possibly included some other information about how smart you are but yet you can't figure out what the screen dimensions for the phone are? But I stand by what I said Samsungs Theme's having nothing to do with the boot animation at all.. And if you're so great at flashing roms.. Uh wow "claps" that's taking others work and dropping it on to an SD and tapping flash.. SO so hard!! Try building your own rom and kernel from scratch! Say it with me one more time, just so you realize it ..... "You don't know"....You can wax and waste people's time ALL day long with your big talk but the straight truth is:
If you would have had the answer, you would have posted it.
I already got it, from someone who actually could answer the question. "He" didn't have any trouble with my request, at all, and had it summed up in a small paragraph.
So i guess that makes you the "special" person here...
Don't bother wasting space with a reply, "unsubscribe" was created for a-holes like you wanna talk big but can't come up with the answer. But then again people like you probably get off on posting to yourself anyway.

If you would have replied nicely and asked nicely like other people on here do I would have showed you how to convert the files you and other stuff you needed but not interested now.. And if you think I'm so dumb and don't know nothing, I just wrote an entire page and a half just for the Galaxy S6 owners to root their phones! And Why? Because someone asked nicely!!

1) This conversation is so petty I'm not even sure why I'm responding to it.
2) Creating a boot animation for Samsung has EVERYTHING to do with Samsung Theme Designer.

4) Ignore the fact that the program looks old school. If you read my tutorial you'll see how that doesn't matter at all.

Well, i appreciate a straight-forward answer.
I reacted to the other guy the way i did because of his condescending attitude and the fact that he obviously didn't know but went out of his way to give a false impression of "knowledge" in the matter. Personally, i can't stand people who answer with useless information, have an attitude, and waste my time trying to "look" big...i appreciate you "not" being that kind of person.
You're right, it's petty, but sometimes it's necessary because (over the years) i've noticed these forums have become a home for "some" who seem to devote time to not giving people a straight answer and have a superiority complex doing it. Also, the douche bag had the arrogance to "label" me because i didn't post a lot on the forums, probably the biggest ignorance here to assume a person isn't knowledgeable about anything because they don't make a lot of noise in the forums.
It's like i've said from the jump....the guy who knows simply gives the straight answer.
Since that's what i really needed i'll just unsub the thread so i don't have to deal with him spouting any further.
Again, thanks.

Actually, there isn't anything in the system partition that pertains to the initial graphic shown when the phone starts, that's actually part of the partition known as param, which is little more than a tar archive that's been written to the block device that is designated as PARAM directly. You can use dd to dump it and untar the resulting file with, you guessed it, tar. The images within the archive are png format, but you have to be careful to pay close attention to the very specific palette and compression used in the original images because if you fail to match it exactly then you run the very real risk of rendering the device bricked in an unrecoverable way as the only way to write the PARAM partition is via an environment where you can access dd, or any other utility that is capable of performing direct read and write to block devices, which is either a custom recovery or the running system itself and since it holds the logo shown immediately upon starting the device before the kernel itself or recovery then making a mistake is not an option. Said archive also holds the graphics for download mode as well as the battery image shown prior to the charging animation, which is loaded by the kernel and is a low power mode that partially boots the device and stops just before zygote is brought up, which is the base of the GUI if you were unaware. I've successfully modified every single image in the archive itself and I'd be glad to upload proof to that end as soon as I can borrow another device to capture the result with as I've only got my phone on hand at the moment. I can provide you with more detailed steps, specifically the arguments I used with the convert command from ImageMagick to ensure the image palette and compression were correct since I couldn't get GIMP to save the edited images with the necessary options.
As far as the qmg files, there are several tutorials on the forums that do a great job of detailing that process, but it requires access to a Windows machine as Samsung doesn't see fit to develop a cross-platform tool. Having said that, this is all under the assumption that you're familiar with Linux and a couple of common utilities within it, I don't use Windows save for audio production and the occasional Octoplus unlock, so I can't offer quite as precise information on performing the steps I've mentioned from that environment. I'll go ahead and dig up the arguments I mentioned for the convert utility and post them since I don't recall them from memory as I did this a few months ago. Suffice to say, I know what I'm doing and what I'm talking about and the first order of your request is most definitely possible though I've yet to have ever encountered any instruction on it or even mention of it until now aside from my own venture into that scary process.
It's worth noting that your idea of deterring theft is sound only if the thief would try to sell it and only if the buyer was a noble person, and most thieves don't keep company with good people so it would be something they got a chuckle out of at worst and a minor annoyance at best. Consider how many items must be stolen that have been engraved or otherwise marked and are sold without much ado over it, if they want to steal it they will and not think twice over it. Just my two cents there.

Yeah, i had some luck with Odin based flashing of the initial boot screen but haven't had a lot of time to play around with it. I just enjoy customizing the phone to the point to where (if anyone steals it) there's no doubt it's mine. I can walk in and say "It does this on boot" without even looking and i've done that in the past and it's worked out great with reclaiming a stolen phone. The more customized you make it, the harder it is for the pawn-shop owner to argue it's not yours (and they WILL try). I've had to bring the authorities in. "Noble" is not a word that most pawn-shop owners seem to know
It's just odd how these phones change their structure so much that general "boot animation" apps have no effect on them at all.
Thanks for the info.

Yup, had it for a long time. But it seems to have no effect on my phone since i got Nougat. In fact, "none" of the usual apps seem to work. Must be a new set of rules. The only ways i've seen them change are by Odin and that rom installer (Aroma, isn't it?) that everyone is so fond of.

Huh, I haven't changed mine since switching to nougat. The custom logo hasn't changed from before the upgrade. Thanks for the info.
