It really grinds my gears that my N1 cant play the animation of a gif picture while I am viewing it in the gallery. My brothers samsung behold can play them and even add them for a contact's picture and still play the animation when he gets a call from that contact.
I know what you mean. My Hero would play gifs in the gallery and so does my friends Captivate. According to the specs the Nexus One supports the .gif format and they play fine in the browser. Weird.

Yeah i know, i just posted this in case any one knows of an app that will make it play outside of the internet browser.
I believe android lacks support for gifs.
Havent seen a single android device that could view gifs. Ya it sucks
For playing animated GIF:
1. Download Opera Mobile (non Opera Mini)
2. enter in the address bar
file:
3. Select your gif
It works without HTC Sense

I am running KingxKxROM and i noticed the HTC Flash player app while browsing BetterCut and creating an activity shortcut. I made the shortcut and then tried to launch it from the home screen and I keep getting force closes.
1) can this app be independently launched?
2) can this app play adobe shockwave flash objects?
3) can this app play .flv file formatted videos?
I had a Nokia 5610 and it had Flashlite 2.1 and was able to play some shockwave flash objects files but due to its low memory it could only do smaller files and such.
I was wondering if this HTC flash player can do the same. If so, can some one tell me how?
I don't think it's an app to be launched by itself, but through the browser. It comes with most hero builds, and only works on Hero builds

Yeah I believe it is for browser use only. Like if a webpage uses javascript like YouTube, You can watch the video from the actual website & not have to have it open up the YouTube app. That is just one example though. If I am wrong someone please correct me.
Hey folks, just wondering if you have animated gifs in web view now that you have froyo. Thanks.
Sure do. And full flash. Real web...

Not from what I could tell. I was actually looking for a file manager that let you select what app opened what file or a image viewer that uses the browser to render the image files, but I haven't found one yet.
But they run fine in the browser for the most part?
I got an animated GIF of an Android beating on an Apple with a bat but it runs like crap through the gallery app preinstalled on the Captivate (at about 1fps). The Irony, is that the IP4 plays it perfectly. It looks like an issue with the Gallery app as it played fine on other androids on their built in photo viewer. Is there a setting to make it play better, or a better app to do it?
Thank you

thanks a lot , great help .
I'm currently running JVP and I have no animated GIF support. I actually can't remember if I have EVER had support for them, but a friend of mine has a Desire HD, and sure enough, the sock browser plays Animated Gifs, as does his Google Reader app.
There is an option under his Internet Settings to enable GIF animations. Is there a reason why Samsung has excluded this feature, and is there a way that I can enable / add support?
Thanks in advance.
try a different browser dolphin hd, firefox 5 and comment... pretty sure it works in our phone!!
Only other browser I've tried is Opera Mini and they don't work either. Also, they don't work in Google Reader app, whereas they DO work on my friends Desire HD.
Not really interested in using a different browser, I'd rather get them working in the default browser, like on the Desire HD and apparently in some custom ROMs for the SGS too.

You have right. Last time gif animations was supported in Froyo 2.2.1
From Gingerbread 2.3.X dont any gif animations in any browser, and this is BIG MISTAKE from Samsung company or Google company...

I've seen several videos of people getting YouTube in full screen on their mix, how is it possible? I still got the black bezel thing on top and bottom, in full view mode? :/
No one knows?

Could you link to one of those videos? As far as I know, this is not possible. You have to either download videos first, and stretch it with a videoplayer, or you can parse the youtube link through one of those download services, then paste it in a player to stream it. Not a seamless experience exactly.
People say you can use certain web browsers (like uc browser, opera etc.) to open web videos in an external player, but I can't find the option in any of them. Maybe they have removed this option in later updates. I remember I could do it long ago. Doubt it will do youtube videos anyway. You get this sense that everyone wants to force you to use their own integrated player alone.
Anyone else who can point to a browser that can open videos externally? Just regular web videos?
Morning, about youtube, I like to ear movies as well but there is the touch issues... with SONY I have a smart app able to lock the screen from un-accidental touch, did we have app alike here?
Cheers,
Work with this modded APK:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/themes/fullscreen-youtube-mi-mix-2-t3701979
You can do it without root on every video on Youtube !
Just activate the "Magnification gesture" setting and then triple tap whenever you want to "zoom in" a Youtube video,it will still crop a little part of the video to make it full screen if the ratio is not the same though.
Just install YouTube Vanced Rootless APK and the modded MicroG Google Service APK.
This gives you ad-free YouTube, background playback and full zoom to fit support.

Thanks man! Was using ogyoutube but this one is better.
You're welcome. This, retroarch with 2:1 ratio setting, moonlight with screen stretch setting and Netflix make for a brilliant multi purpose gaming and movie consumption device, as all of them will display content full screen.
