[Q] ROOTED Hero keeps freezing when accessing photos??!!! - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm working with a rooted HTC Hero running 2.1 w/Aloyisus on it.
Never given me issues until after I backed up whole SSD card, reformatted, repartitioned to ext2 then 3.
Now, everytime I try to access my "Camera shots" album through the stock photo app, the entire phone freezes for a few minutes and always shows up with a different FC screen (one time was beautiful widgets, another it's sms app...etc) but when I attempt to open any other of the albums (downloads, favorites, all photos, etc) they open with no problem.
Possibly be something w the SD card or software bug???

Try re formatting ur card threw ur computer and re flash the rom if that dosent work try anthoer rom I recommend cm6 rc1 or the nightly buid I think u might like it might work might not worth a shot

Thanks for the advice. I will attempt. After I am done formatting it, do I partition the card BEFORE or AFTER I restore all info/data back on car?
Also...I have heard a lot of good things about cm6. Any direction on where to find?

My bad after I read ur response wrong place the saved data u have back on the SD card after u partition wen u partion ur card u automatically format it good luck
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™

Right in the hero cdma android Dev thread on xda there's cm6 rc1 and nightlys the nightlys are experimental and Rc1 is stable but I've read mixed reports depends on how or what u use ur phone for

Thanks again for the advice.

No thanks needed I hope you get it solved good luck

flashing hero roms causes boot cycles

hello all
is there a common problem where it just cycles the "hero boot screen " infinitly
going to recovery mode and flashing a normal rom works fine
Possibly you didn't follow the required steps to get hero roms onto your phone, eg. partitioning, etc...
If you don't know what you need to do, stick with the normal roms... It wouldn't hurt you.

^ Listent to the wise man.
I can bet you my weekly salary that if you have the right card, wiped and repartitioned you will not have boot loops. Read-up on the requirements... this is 100% sd card issue
i partitioned the card correctly about a month ago i even had an early jachero rom that was quite unstable at the time so i switched to a normal cooked rom. and now i want to try the new builds so i simply flashed the 1.4 recovery rom and a new hero rom.
i will wipe the 1GB sd card and reparation it and see how it goes
if you have other ideas dont hesitate

If you never wiped the ext2/3 partition that is probably why. You have to wipe it whenever you switch hero roms. Maybe the linux-swap too but I am not sure on that one.
Wipe your ext2/3 partition. You should search more

Cyanogen to Hero

How do I switch to cyanogen rom to a hero rom properly?
Which hero rom do I choose? "Best rom"
If I do nandroid backup will my apps from my ext3 be restored?
Don't want to get rid of my apps
I've tried two different roms drizzy hero & JacxHero but on drizzy I get stuck on some htc smart mobilty screen and on Jacs I get stuck on boot loops please help just want to go back to hero for a little while
if you go from a AOSP rom to a hero rom you have to wipe your ext3 and phone. a nandroid will not restore your ext3 bc it only backs up your phone. there is a thread in the dev forum called want to run hero, read this first. i suggest searching for it and reading it.
Hmmm......How bout if I switch sd cards. As in having 1 card for the hero and then when I go back to an AOSP ROM use the card that has the partitions in em with apps

Bah! I've switched from Cyan to Jac several times in a day without wiping my ext
Btw, Scooty Puff junior ftw =P
Anyway, my advise is go for this ROM, and go for version 1.51, not 1.54, it's much faster. I didn't have to wipe my ext3 when using that ROM. The fact that Drizzy's builds required a clean ext is the reason I've never flashed any of his builds (amongst other thing, but lets not start a flame war)...

Thankx ! just the type of a reply I was looking for. Gonna install the ROM you reffered me to but I want a jac build and stay in boot loop. Should I just install 1.5.1 then wipe and install jacs?

Honestly I would just stick with 1.5.1. Ive used JACs latest hero build and many of the HERO2 builds and 1.5.1 was by far the best.

would you suggest just staying on 1.5.1 and not updating even to .2 or .3 (i know you said dont get 1.5.4)
Its impossible for me to install hero I've tried 3 and tried doing the 1.5.1 rom but I get stuck on the black screen. Please help me on how to install this perfectly from a cyanogen 4.1.11.1 rom

Believe me, this ROM is blazingly fast compared to 2.1jacheroskiv. 1.5.1 will stay on the black screen for a long time, but not 10 mintes, just wipe your ext
go to the recovery console:
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
rm -r /system/sd/*
wipe, reflash, reboot...

i use backup for root users backing up apps. It works for me. APPS ONLY though idk bout anything else. try that
omg no one mentions the switchrom.sh script?!?!
you all fail at Q&A
switchrom will backup your apps and dalvik cache and do a nandroid backup. search for it in the dev forum.
I flashed hero and it got onto screen perfectly but stays on htc logo
What's happening?
When I wiped ext3 it said resource or file something is busy....what does that mean?
Doesnt hero require 3 partitions... i mean, you have that done right?
Nahh I only have 2 but you don't really need swap....but I am going to repartition my card with linux swap later on this week but still I am stuck on htc screen after it boots up I can only acess lockscreen

I did this exactly
Clear dalvik cach
Clear ext3
Go back wipe
Fixed filesystem
Hero didn't work
Then I. Just cleared ext3
Wipe
Fixed filesystem
Hero booted up but stays on htc screen
And still said the resource thing is busy when I tried to clear ext3

It seems that with hero you are required to have all three partitions, whether you use them all or not... but I would recommend a 64mb partition and set linux-swap with 60 swappiness and it should be good...
EDIT: if you want your g1 to work until you repartition your SD, just stick with cyanogen...

help!!!! i searched for hours and cant fix it

my phone is stuck in a reload state i put jac xreroskiv rom or what ever its called and its stuck it starts up but keep saying hero over and over any ideas. help please thanks in advance i had already installed hero and such was just trying this new rom. i tried other roms too but no dice. even the original hero rom i originally put on here.
You should probably make a post for help in the rom's forum that you're having problems with.
Also, it would help if you told them which G1 device you had, what radio/spl and stuff like that.
But with really no info from your post the only things I can think of is that you need to do wipe or reformat your sd card.
Most likely you just have to repart your ext partition. But more info would help.
i have radio-2.22.19.261 hboot-1.33.2005 dream32b i was able to restore it but now i cant install the rom . i tried again and got the same problem so i probably got the wrong radio for the rom i want which is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534479\
You have the right radio. Really there is only one radio. There's the 26I that we use and the old radio that is not used anymore. Do not flash the hero radio or you will brick your phone. Did you repartion your sd card so it's fresh?
yeah i used the home and end button and did the partition using the boot loader thingy. i ended the loop but now its like i bough the phone new with root make sense?

Not the least amount of sense to me, but if your phone is working ,then good. You had a bootloop which is usually solved by wiping your ext3 and phone.
maybe i have the wrong build? i had some ra build cant remember what it was called i reflashed to cyanogen 1.4 gonna try it when i get home

all you had to do was wipe ext3, you should do this when changing any hero build unless otherwise noted. be sure you are wiping the intern. memory as well ALT+W in ReCon. also, repair ext filesystems and flash again, hero roms take a while to boot so make sure you are patient.
okay ill try when i get off work. i have 1.33.2005
2.22.19.26I my build is cyanogen + jf 1.4 can i install the rom i discussed earlier using the method u talked about? it was slow when i installed it earlier anyway of making it faster kept loading.
i fixed it dont know how lol but i did. i think i just had the wrong build. close thread plz. thanks for all the help people.

I kept seeing you say you were trying to flash the cyanogen build 1.4. That is not a rom but the recovery. But glad its working now. Put [SOLVED] on your thread title.

Recovery Issue

Have posted this a number of places with no luck, including Rom Mgr thread:
If I flash a rom, set it up, then back up, Rom Mgr will not reboot to system. Goes to X and hangs. Sometimes after 3 tries or so it works or if I Restore the recent backup it works. Nothing consistent.
This started when I used amon 2.0 to increase ext to 1024mb for running eVil's desire rom. I had numerous issues where I could not even back up or restore. Seemed to always hang on android-secure part. Since then I reformatted sdcard with sdformatter, then used RM to create 1024 ext3. Flashed fresh eVil HD Gamma rom. All went well, but again after setting everything up and then tapping on reboot into system it hung again. It did not hang after initial flashing of rom and Circle Battery .zip. It booted into system fine.
When I got back to system and homescreens, I uninstalled RM and reinstalled. Although, I had done that before, but before I reformatted sdcard.
So, if this keeps up, only conclusion is RM even though I installed latest from Market, or this rom is messing things up. But, no mention of this issue anywhere else. I will try to boot into Clockwork thru Quick Boot (did that before also) to get to recovery and see how it goes.
Anyone have any idea for a solution to this nightmare, or had a similar experience. Running out of ideas. I am going to dl latest MIUI rom and see how it performs. And maybe load an earlier version of eVil's HD rom.
Thanks for any help, know this is weird,
Ken
Only thing I would suggest is to stop using ROM manager. There is really no need for it. Anything you can do in that, you can do either in recovery, or via a terminal.

IMO, using an in-OS software to control the recovery is risky. I prefer having full control by manually flashing everything!
Thanks guys for replying,
I can try reboot recovery thru terminal and Quick Boot. Although, it did it right after repartitioning with Amon_Ra. So, thought it might not be Rom Mgr.
Really thought the reformat of sdcard would do it. May have two issues. Next step is to get the latest eVil rom off and go back to previous version and/or repartition back to 512mb sdext.
Just Frustrated and Confused
Ken
Just an update guys, since you were kind enough to reply to my post
I have kept the 1024 sdext made thru RM/CW removed both eVil's roms and relashed a fresh MIUI. No issues so far, time will tell. Will probably reflash a MicroMod rom too. Can't believe the larger HD rom was the cause. I loved the rom.
If I figure it out one way or the other I'll update. I can't even google my problem and find someone else with it.
Ken
id get rid of rom manager and clockwork. i flashed many many many things/times with amon ra recovery alone without issues, but all i hear are problems with rom manager/clockwork. i mean how easy is it to just go into recovery and flash? or just download something through the browser... my 2 cents
I've been doing this for 8 months and started with amon. Never had issues with either amon or rm/cw. Started using rm/cw just to try when doing a lot of nightlies with cyan.
But, I recently repartitioned to 1024 sdext3 with amon to run desire rom and amon hung too.
Still 1024 and no hanging with MIUI, using rm/cw. I don't have a preference one way or the other, as long as it works.
Don't think it is either amon or rm/cw, but the rom and my ext not working well together. Had no issues with the 512 ext and desire rom. But, I was getting windows warnings on errors on my sdcard and thought it time to reformat anyway.
Thanks for the advice all, I will run MIUI and Micro for awhile and maybe go back to 512 ext.
Did learn for anyone using Rom Mgr that it does now do 1024 ext3 partitioning. Many people thought, as I, it stopped at 512 and ext2. Maybe it use to. Verified the ext 3 thru Mini Partition Tool Wizard. Just FYI.
Ken
Well,
I appreciate all the advice and help, I need it sometimes. But, seems (I hope) that I forgot to reboot into recovery after repartitioning. This tip came from Amon_RA and seems to have fixed my "reboot into system from recovery" issue.
I am now back on eVil's great HD Desire rom and 1024 sdext3 working great.
Thanks,
Ken

Internal SD Dead?

I curently have a bell i9000M I was running Doc's JPY for a few months but decided to his JS8 version the other day. As soon as I flashed it I noticed my phone was unable to install apps and in manage applications it gets stuck on computing.
So things I have tryed to get this working again........
Flashed EZbase using re-partition , still same issue on base.
Flashed Stock JH2 , still same issue.
Flashed Stock JL2 still same issue.
Flashed JH2 then JL2 through Kies same issue.
It seems I can not write to my internel SD although the rest of my phone seems to be working fine any Ideas?
Another thing I noticed is mass storage is not working on any rom only can connect using Kies method if I want to transfer files. Format internal SD is not working , it asks if you want to format you click yes it seems like something happens but then check the internal sd and all the files are still there.
I am not familiar with the I9000M but i know its very common to have SD card failures.
And it seems to me thats whats happened, im sorry for you
best thing you can do is, flash back to stock and send off for repair, hopefully you may get some luck with the next device.
One thing before you get all emotional have a look at this, its a long shot but......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975

Yea I was not getting any mounting errors in CWM or 2e/3e recovery...Anyway after a frustrating 3 days I now and I think it's finally working , so far.
I manually deleted all files off the internal SD, then did a format from within 3e recovery while on JL2 (this was acting like it was formatting before but all the files I downloaded were still there after the format). Then flashed Hardcore's K13 and installed a custom rom all seems fine so far but it did work periodically over these past few days so I'm hoping it stays working now.
What was weird is I could download files using the web browser but the market would not work all the time but when it did it was downloading the items but would just get stuck installing them.
Anyway thanks for the quick response. Hopefully I have this sorted out now.
