I made a offline map for Rmap. My magic is running CM 6.0 stable, however, when Rmaps is running, sometimes, it makes a wrong location in "My location" , the error is over 10 km. However, sometimes, it works, the error is within 50 meters.
What's wrong ?
By the way, sometimes, the maps rotated clockwise by 90 degrees, or 180 degrees, without turning on the compass. What's wrong ?
Anyway, it takes a longer time than Google map to locate my position , in general. Is it true in your device too ?
And, sometimes, the app was forced to close.
Anyone could help ??
Thank you !

I tried my Tilt with iGuidance and got very disappointed. The GPS has an issue following my position. It updates the position on average every 30 sec and by the next update I can really get off the quided track.
Other people tell me that something is wrong, as the arrow on the screen should be following me smoothly in real time, not jumping city blocks. The only configurable setting for the GPS is baude rate, but I tried all values and still the same. What could be the problem?

are you in the city with a bunch of tall buildings??
also d/l htc gps and see how many sats your locked on.
I was mostly in the city, but no tall buildings. The GPS can lock me really good and fast, the reception is good, it finds like 8 sattelites. The only problem is it does not stay continuously locked on position, but lockes every 30 sec or so..
I installed the logging tool and will give it a try. Thanks!
What ROM and Radio do you use? stock?
I am using The NoThrills ROM (CE OS 5.2.19170 (Build 19170.1.0.0)), which comes with R 1.58.26.20.
Just tried the HTC GPS tool - not sure what exactly to look for, but it keeps logging very fast, the lines in the logger change at a rate e few per seccond, it always showed 7-8 satellites locked and yet did not update my position in real time, but probably every 30 sec.

If you are using Iguidance 4 then this is a know issues with the GPS chip in the tilt. It will not work right, the only work around is to use a separate bluetooth GPS reciever and not the internal gps. The other way is to use a different GPS software as Iguidannce 4 is the only one that I'm aware of that has this issue....
Yes, I am using iGuidance 4. Where did you see about the issue it has with the Tilt? Can you post some link? I can see only positive feedback. Would be good to know that it is a software issue and not my Tilt.....
Hi, I use miomap. My GPS is not smooth too. I don't need to wait 30 seconds to update the position, but it may need 3 to 4 seconds to update the position. It is not as smooth as tomtom.
Check out a program called GPS Gate. This issue typically has to do with WM6.1 and iGuidance 4.0 not playing well together on the Tilt. GPS Gate reports the GPS feed into something that iGuidance 4.0 can be happy with. Here's another thread for more details...

Hi! I hope to be usefull.
When I see the arrow in the google maps the position is always the same. Its possible that the compass can be the cause of gps error?? Its possible turn off the compass to try the gps alone??
Best regards and sorry my english.
ive also wondered about this. the arrow in mytracks spins around like crazy while moving. if gps programs use the compass to help tell the direction then thats gonna be a problem.
Does anyone know if we can test this in some way? I would gladly try any solution or help with alpha testing.
gps - compass or ...sensors?
hello I have noticed a strange behavior of the gps too..
I have done many tests with the program "GPS Test" (available free on Android Market) and I noticed that after the fix if the galaxy is moved, especially if changes from portrait to landscape ( or vice versa), the program loses the fix with the satellites (all indices of satellites in use turn gray), it never happens if i disables the landscape mode in the galaxy's settings or in the gps-test 's menu...
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the GPS is less sensitive for satellites but too sensitive to the position variations of the smartphone (horizontal / vertical during use) .. I do not know if it happens with all programs that use GPS, but I do not think this should happen.

Like earlier Garmin or Magellan gps, the compass should be used up to the point that the gps shows 5km/h (adjustable in some devices) because the signal of the gps is unstable and is not reliable for direction under that speed. Also...

... like in some sirfstarIII gps, the receiver (gps) was adjusted so that it didn't show any movement (and speed) within a circle of 15m or 30m (also adjustable) to avoid showing movement (and direction) while you were stopped.
Another fact in this category of gps devices (single frequency, autonomous etc) is that they are much more accurate about speed (0.1km/h) than position (typically usually 5m, sometimes 2m-15m or more)
So if we don't know what the default settings for the SGS's gps are, we don't know what could really be the problem. Or do we?
Anyone who knows more about the gps hardware used in SGS could help...
It would indeed be interesting to try to disable the compass altogether and see what the effect on GPS is.
Perhaps I'll look at this. I'm not a big GPS user myself so proper testing would definitely not be me.
I am using "Maverick" from the market and it seems to be working properly....
thnks about all. Im sure that someday we'll have a operative gps. Keep investigating.
Regards.
It was working fine on my morning drive. Stopped at my location, dropped off my errand, and as i was about to start my next drive my location can be seen as a blue dot on waze, but can't seem to "lock in" (turn into the small car) that allows you to follow the map, reroute, whatsoever.
Tried it with google maps thinking the issue is with waze, but the results are the same.
Searched for a fix and downloaded a GPS test app. It said "no fix". It can detect my location but can't seem to fix for whatever reason.
Tried my old note 3. Everything was working fine.
Tried to update all apps involved, even the phone itself. No luck. Brought it to the samsung service center. All they did was factory reset. They cant seem to find anything wrong. All sensors working. This is veeery frustrating.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
It looks like compass info is not available or just not processed, leading to navigation app (maps, here, or whatever) not knowing what your orientation is.
Is you compass working?
Does the blue dot change into car/arrow when you start driving? (like after 30 seconds or so?)
I have the same issue as you with Google Maps (only after I start driving I get arrow), but it works fine with Here (arrow immediately visible).
The compass is working, but the blue dot doesnt change into an arrow/car. service centers are useless as it seems like they have no idea what this problem is.

hi,
apologies if this has been discussed already but after running a search didnt find my answer.
Problem. Chinese replacement radio unit from Bosstar running Androind 8.1. Initial boot time is 35 sec. at which time the reverse becomes available. There is a menu option to put the unit to sleep for NONE/10MIN/30MIN/1HR after which time the unit goes into shutdown. Once shut down it takes 35 sec for reverse camera.
When in sleep the reverse camera is up and running within 5 sec.
Question.
How can I extend the delay from 1 hr to say 18 hrs. that would cover majority of situations where i want the camera to be active straight away ?
Is there a way to prioritise the camera over radio which is up and running in 10 sec regardless of the state f the unit (sleep/shutdown)
The supplier is beging unhelpful saying the re-programming is not possible.
Love the rest of the unit with the exception of the phone dialler and the bluetooth streaming app (same app as dialler). generic and feature poor. No idea how to replace it.
Does anyone also notice that the S10 drops the GPS fix for several seconds when passing a loop on the highway (german Autobahn has many of them)?
When I'm in the middle of the loop the fix drops and google maps navigation freezes and then jumps around in the map for about a minute. This is a serious problem when you need to know the path in an unknown region. I tracked this with several gps tools from playstore, they all show that the fix drops from minimum 10 to 25 satellites to 0 immediatly.
I already tried to delete A-GPS data and refresh them and recalibrated the compass, but that didnt help.
Any solution or workaround?
I think you are going way to fast on the Autobahn. The gps cant catch up with your car
Yes, you need to slow down. GPS satellites travel at approximately 14,000 km/hr so you're out running them. ? I'm not sure there is a fix because I imagine those coils have a magnetic field. Maybe try making a little tinfoil hat for the phone which would probably also block the GPS.
