Can this be rooted?
yes this is very rootable. I just rooted mine about 4 days ago without having to do a custom kernel or rom or anything. I've since done both of those, but this guide worked perfectly for 2.2 ota frg22d the guide claims it'll work on ANYTHING but i can't speak for other versions. This is NOT a one click root method, afaik those don't work anymore *atleast not yet* this is a use a computer/rds/push method. the guide i used *links all the files you'll need and great instructions* is:

Did anyone else lose root?
Is there a fix in the works?
Yes I lost root as well.
I have a Droid 1 and I don't know why I installed the OTA update, but now my root access is gone and z4root will not get it back.
I found out there is a fix though, we just have to go through the whole manual root process again:
Unfortunately I cannot post links here, so PM me if you want the how-to on fixing this.
You should be still able to use the RSDLite method. That one is permanent..i don't think the OTA would even wipe it out. Who knows though, i'm on UD2.3

How to remove updater file
My rooted Droid with 2.2 just downloaded the recent update also, but I have not allowed it to install yet. Is there a way to delete the update so it will not install and lose root? I used z4root to root the phone (worked great...very easy). I see from other posts that after the update z4root will not be allowed to re-root. Is this correct?
Thanks

If you have the option to not update, DONT UPDATE IF YOU ARE ROOTED until there is a root fix. Myself and a lot of people have buggy phones now that root has been disabled. We're all waiting for a solution. One Click Root didn't work for my Droid.

Yes and no.
No, being z4root will not work after the 2.2.1 update.
Yes being you can be rooted once again after 2.2.1
I just re-rooted (manually) and it's working great now with 2.2.1
I've had a couple people PM me about it.
Follow this guide to the "T", don't skip ahead, read everything:

It is super fast and takes maybe 10 minutes tops.
Far from the 3 hrs or so it took me the first time I ever rooted (last June).
I was able to use SuperOneClick to re-root my phone in 2.2.1

Yep lost mine too and working to get it back, thats why I am here. z4 was the first time i rooted my phone and it made it so easy!
I actually got my replacement device this weekend and it was on 2.2.1 but last night I tried SuperOneClick the latest version and it worked fine. Also my sprecovery was still showing stock so I used my ROM Manager from the Market to flash to clockwork mod then back to SPrecovery and also was able to make a backup of my stock 2.2.1 with nandroid. Hope this helps.
recently got a VS 980 running 4.2. 2 with build number ending in 39 B software version 10 B, most everything I found here is for 4. 4.2. just want to make sure I do all the steps correctly, should I accept updates then root?is towel root an option? I saw it doesn't work on 4.4.2, but could be loaded directly to the device and routed straight from the device?
I think I also read you have to separately add recovery to the device after rooting?

You can still use ioroot to root 4.2.2, I don't know if towelroot works on it. You'll need to flash TWRP via fastboot if you need a recovery afterwards.
for what it's worth everything worked fine with towel route it appears was able to root straight from the device and not have to hook up to a PC,
now I need to find the right way to install recovery for this version?
what apps are safe to remove I would like to get rid of all the Verizon ones?
and any ideas on what to do with OTA updates as I believe I saw lollipop should be coming to this device in March and I am NOT even on 4.4 yet?
Ok so i have a s6 from att running the latest android (5.0.2).(g920aucu2aof3)
I noticed that all att models have locked bootloaders.
It was rooted before and i tried flashing custom rom and got an error message like " .......has been found in your phone.....please...turn it off and take it too your att store", so i had to use odin and restore it to stock.
So as if now, i have not found any root methods including PingPong ( says this model is not supported yet).
Also, after a lot of research i found this video , h ttp s://ww w .youtub e.com/watch?v=SJSP8XsET8o
which apparently lets you flash custom rom's even for the att version.
So is there a way i could root this device , all i need is Xposed firmware. and like snapchat hacks and other stuff.
is this possible
Thanks a lot.
current software 4.4.2 what's the best way to update to update the software to latest new to root
What phone model? G800F, G800H, etc?
Most versions have official Lollipop from Samsung, you can update it using OTA, no root needed and it won't trip Knox warranty. If your model doesn't have a version for your particular country then you can use Odin to flash a compatible version (same model, another country) and it should keep your warranty.
If you want Marshmallow then there is no official version yet. You can get a custom ROM, then you will need TWRP either using Odin or rooting first.
Thanks for the reply ! I'm a idiot ... I have an s4 mini lol
I have rooted it I used king root (GT -19195 ) I'm new to all this so bare with me ! So now I have the problem of having issues with the binary and su it's saying it needs to install the right one but nothings happening any suggestions or should I just sod the root off and start again using odin ? If you meant GT-i9195 or anything other than G800-something then probably you're in the wrong forum, you will get better help in the appropriate forum for your device.
Secondly, if you've used KingRoot then either stick to KingUser app (SuperSU won't work) or you need to replace it completely either using an app or some script, both don't work always...

What am I able to do with this baseband version? [root/custom rom]
I know towel root wont work.
im not sure if I can still download and flash prerooted roms to obtain root access without unlockong the bootloader on a lower android version.
Are any exploits that were known in the past for this baseband version working or have worked at all, anyone to describe?
Also please dont link me to old threads that have been linked in similar theada asking questions like this (theyre mostly broken and are unproductive), a simple no is fine and an end of conversation. (itll be enough for me to sell this as garbage 7 years later)
