I know Motoblur never became a big success, but with the new 2.1 version I thought it would be worth trying out on my Legend. Unfortunately there is no motoblur port, so it would make me very happy if someone would try port it or teach me how to do the porting stuff (at least, how to try and make it work).
I'm not saying that this is possible, probably isn't, but it would be very nice to be able to try it out on the Legend!

Can anyone tell me how to do this, or where to find a guide?

There won't be a guide on this and nobody is going to tell you how to do it. The reason being that we don't really know. You see, Sense is built on a crazy amount of HTC Frameworks and integrating all of that into a rom is a huge undertaking. The best bet would be to try and forward port 1.6 into the Sense rom but considering Sense is getting a 2.1 update soon nobody is going to try this. In other words, its not worth it.
Got it, well thanks for answering. I guess I will spend some time working on a new theme for it.
I may be the only one interested in this, and I know its set for froyo 2.2 and not sure if its possible but is there no way to port this back one version? Maybe make it work for us?
I really like the idea and would be disappointed to have to wait the loooooooooong time before 2.2 is ported to G1.
no it uses the new pushy mc jig from froyo
probably could back port the whole framework, but seems like a wast ogf time to me

How do you know it will be such a long time?
Depending on the code changes between 2.1 and 2.2, it may be little more than trivial to get 2.2 running.
Also, I suggest that the first step required in either backporting or building a whole system would be to actually wait for the availability of the source code. Then we judge what would be a more efficient use of time -- building a whole system or backporting chunks of it.
2.2 will support the ION, so in turn, it will support the Dream. We just have to WAIT for it, people.
Mod edit: not dev related, moved to q&a
Just a thought: during the google io presentation of google TV they make a presentation of this feature with the google box in 2.1. So I don't know if the sdk or the source code is published but can't we use that to make it working with eclair roms?
PS: here at 1:30
Time is relative here, by the time a new update is released from modders porting it to another much older phone version a new version is almost ready to be released.
This is not a bad thing and Im not talking down about it ether. But was simply asking the question if it would take too much effort to get just that .apk to work for even 2.1 that is now very stable on the G1.
2.2 was just released, and it will probably take a while to get it stable, to the point where 2.0 or 2.1 is now for the G1 anyways.
I just really like the chrome to phone and think its a super idea. Maybe I'm a bit impatient too.
is swype compatible with better keyboard?
I doubt it. Swype is a keyboard itself and Better Keyboard looks like a keyboard. Not sure how they can be compatible.
yea i dont want to buy it and it dowsnt work with swype, i love swype
Don't think it will, sorry to say.
Swype is incredible! Whoever thought of it deserves a raise! ;-)
Yeah.. too bad it's a pain to find it to reinstall it on custom roms..

This is another good thing to know.
I'm glad hda-developers is here, but I'm also glad that I haven't rushed to root and custom roms. If AT&T doesn't come through with froyo or when they, most likely, don't provide a v.3 upgrade, I'm sure I will take advantage of the technologies offered here. However, based on the nature of so many posts here, where features are lost or phones bricked, rooting and flashing don't seem things to rush into... Without a great deal of study.
It's fairly true. Have to remember that the Captivate is a newer phone, the ROM builders need time to get everything working. I feel the same way actually, i've tried custom roms but would like to keep all the hardware functionality of my phone, especially the somewhat iffy GPS. Hopefully we won't have to wait very long and Froyo will be released out into the wild.. according to some posts here this coming week.
Is there any way to get it? (the one found on cyanogen, tmobile's I guess)
we could really use some epic themes having it..
not without some genius porting CM onto our device, no.
Far beyond me i'm afraid, and sadly it seems that the main guys who would be able to do this are simply not interested in this fantastic bit of kit.
Unless someone manages to create an AOSP kernel for the XL, which would allow someone to port CM, we're gonna be out of luck.
I remember the older HTC Sense versions that I see on my friends' Inspires and Incredible 2s. It seems to be a lighter, more barebones build, and I liked the pulldown lockscreen.
How would one go about trying to port the UI? Would it theoretically be possible to apply it to ICS, or would it have to run off of 2.3?
It just might help to remedy the problem of "bloated Sense" that I hear everyone harping about.
The only guide I've found is from mid-2011, when Sense 3 had barely come out.

It would be hard to find this. Porting it would be tough since Sense, ha ha, is so integrated in to the phone. I think something could be done but you would be hard pressed to find someone to help you out on this due to the time it would take. It would be easier to modify the current sense than to port something else over. That is my 2 cents. Wow, didn't mean to say "sense" so much!
You need to make new ui images and a ton of porting.
