Oh Yea
I searched USB HOST related topics but I did not find this one..lol
Anyway, I hope My thread could raise this up again..
Hopefully someone can put this function in.
power for usb drive
why cant the usb drive be powered via the audio jack. some clever devs have managed to power a 400ma led via the audio jack on an iphone so i guess the power can be taken from there. i think making a file explorer that outputs a continuous loud sound should do the trick. the cable can be made by splicing an audio cable to a standard mini usb to usb cable.
if it works we can at least connect pen drives without using any external power source.

You need a USB Host to go cable - they are pretty cheap off of ebay.
USB hard drives don't always work - at minimum you will need a powered hub.

i know wht USB on the means but how do i enable it. i have tried connecting with a pendrive with the help of the USb on the cable but it does not show .
Once you plug your on the cable in the phone will inform you that usb connecter s connected. Whatever you plug in at the other end of otg cable work run unless it is not supported.

Just plug it in and look in My files. It will show as usbstorage.
I have an official samsung OTG cable, it works fine on the SGS2, but doesn't appear on the Galaxy Note under usbstorage.
Anyone else out there having similar problems?
i had grab some ebay OtG but after unmount and remove the OTG it causes wakelock which drain alot of juice.
I am also facing problems with OTG . when i plug in the cable thr is not msg nor anything happens in phone. please could any one tell me how to enable it may be with kernel or custom rom or may be anything else.
I also want to know this as well,I have spent considerable time yesterday trying to make this work but no luck at all,I would appreciate if someone could help,as I have seen a video in this forum where the guy was able to.connect a mouse to it stating that it is supported out of the box.
I was able to get it to work with a pendrive and a mouse with no problems, but I couldn't get a keyboard or my 2.5" external drive to mount.
Details:
My OTG cable was from DealExtreme for $2.30 or something.
My pendrive was FAT32 formatted.
My mouse was a basic $10 optical one.
My 2.5" external was NTFS, which probably goes some way to explaining why it didn't work even when I gave it some extra power from my desktop PC too.
My keyboard was a standard USB. I also tried a Logitech keyboard with a wireless USB dongle but that didn't work either.
I watched a whole film off my pendrive with no issues. I messed around with the mouse a bit, but the cursor moved too slowly for my taste and the scroll wheel didn't scroll webpages, which is half the reason I'd plug a mouse in anyway.

If you get no message when the cable is plugged in on it's own, chances are it is a problem with the cable. I bought a cable of Ebay which didn't work, so I bought a different one and that did.

Hi guys,
been a passive viewer in the xda forums for a long time but never posted anything, so be easy on me - It's my first.
I would like to connect my galaxy s i9000 to the pc screen.
I know there's the TV out option, but it involves a 3.5" to RCA cable, and pc screens don't have RCA jacks.
Does anyone know of a way to do this? and if you know what kind of cable is required that will be great.
I'm using the CM9 rom, build 17 from theam hacksung.
Just to clarify, I want to connect to phone to the PC so I can view the phone on the PC screen.
Thanks in advance
Short answer is you can't.
Longer answer is you might.
Your monitor doesn't have RCA connectors but if you have a tuner installed inside your PC, you might be able to connect it to that and then use the software that came with the tuner to display it onto your monitor.
Another method would be to use a RCA to whatever input your display has converter but they are are usually pricey and after a search for RCA to HDMI/VGA/DVI I don't think they really exist.
Even if there was a 3.5mm to HDMI/VGA/DVI cable, it wouldn't work unless the display was designed to take a PAL or NTSC signal through those types of connections.
With cm9, you need to have 3.5mm to RCA cable plugged in then go into System Settings>Advanced>TV Out. The option is greyed out when no 3.5mm to RCA cable is plugged in and the option has to be checked every time you plug the cable in.
Thanks for the reply,
I knew about the tv-out option, but didn't think about using a tuner - that might work!
Another question, do you think that a micro usb - hdmi cable might work?
I saw a while back that samsung offered such a cable that was designed for that purpose exactly.
I've searched a lot of forums but havn't got a clear answer if this actually works, not have I seen a youtube video demonstrating this.
Does anyone know if using a micro usb - hdmi cable wokrs?

Do you know what tuner you have? I'm not sure if yours will have it but there will be a yellow plug like the ones you find on a TV.
I'm %99.9 sure that the I9000 doesn't have HDMI out through USB. It would seem a bit excessive to have two video out ports. Although you did spark an interesting subject, if someone could whip together drivers to work with something like this we could potentially have HDMI through USB but I don't see it happening any time soon.
Here's another way to view your phone through your PC: http://mymobiler.com/

Confirmed working with Note 2 with a catch, you need to power micro USB jack to make it work (and you can't charge Note 2 in USB host mode).
Tested with Logitech USB speakers and it works.
Why don't just buy a Bluetooth adapter for speakers and listen wirelessly?

This is an experiment, but you can connect USB audio adapter to get SPDIF audio out through this way.
OTG cable with a charging port might be a better option, thats quite a large thing hanging off the end of you phone so it might be prone to knocks which will stress your usb port.
Theres another thread in this section title OTG with charging, in that thread this cable looks promising http://www.ebay.com/itm/261170130579
edit: You either need a kernel mod or a resistor between pins 4&5 to get otg charging working, a dead short wont work unless the kernel has been modified. My OTG cable arrived this morning. even wireless charging wont work. I dont really need this feature, only planning to use otg intermittently so I am not going to fix my cable.
I've been searching for a while to solve this.
I'd like to connect my HTC one to my car usb connector.
I've seen several repoirts claiming usb audio works, connecting dac's etcetra.
I know I can connect usb drives with a micro-usb to usb connector, tried it and this works.
But I have also seen people saying you need an USB OTG cable for this, so what is it?
I've already connected my One via the micros-usb to usb cable to my car but I do net get audio via the usb on my car equipment.
So again the question, is audio out available on the htc one (and on other android phones) with the stock rom.
Some of the report where talking about CM roms, I do use the elegancia one but I have no intent of switching to CM.

since the HTC One does not automaticly plug as mass storage i guess that the car radio simply does not recognize the phone as a mass storage with music.. an USB OTG cable would "fix" it since it will force the phone to be shown as mass storage.. (its a guessing anyway)
And you have guessed correctly. The USB otg cable works fine.....except it added ringtones et al when you select root folder. Worked ok if I navigated to the music folder (assuming your vehicle has that option).

Well, for me it does not work.
As I said before I can attach a USB drive to my phone and I can accomplish this by using a micro-usb to usb adapter.
When attaching the drive my phone complains it cannot charge and that I need the standard charger.
But when using a file explorer I can see (read and write) the contents of my usb drive in the storage/usb folder.
I thought this was enough to decide that the converter was OTG but now I'm not so certain about this anymore.
Is every usb to micro usb an OTG or what are the extra requirements?
Anyway I tried again to connect to my car audio and the message I got on the car was
that he could not charge the phone but the phone was as well not recognized as media input.
Because OTG adapters are very cheap I ordered one which explicitly says it is OTG,
I'll see what happens when I can try that one out but in the meantime all comments are welcome.

Yes, the cable I had explicitly said "OTG".
I only experimented with this for fun, my Elantra also supports built in bluetooth (phone controls are on the steering wheel, mic in the roof) so I mainly put my One in my car kit, launch car mode and away I go.
The OTG cable worked well for me when I tried it though. It did NOT work with my Son's Nexus 4 so these things can be finicky.
Hello!
Maybe someone know, how to use USB C audio adapter with Realme X2 Pro?
I tried to turn on USB OTG, but it not doing anything.
Adapter: Baseus Type-C Male To Type-C Female +3.5MM Female Adapter L40
How I can see, it has audio chip inside, and working like DAC, maybe.
Sorry, I have no rights to post links.
I just got the Meizu USB c amplifier today, and I had a hard time getting it to work as well. I also turned on USB OTG, then after plugging it in, taking it out, and putting it back in again, the phone recognized it and I could get audio over USB c.
It may not work for you, but also try flipping the connector over. That may help as well? I'm not sure what got mine working, to be honest, but it did work eventually.
Sorry, it's not working for me.
Also, yesterday I tried to use usb flash throw otg - it's work fine.
Try the usb configurations from developer options
Set it to Audio source
