Problem with USBtoPC ActiveSync - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
I am pretty sure someone already faced this problem, but I could not find the related thread.
Normally if I connect my phone to my PC using USB, I have been asked which kind of connection I would like to have.
I always chose active sync and did not care about the other ones.
Last time I was tried internet connection sharing, that was a bad choice :-(
Since this time the pop up is gone and I have no possibility to switch back to active sync. It always opens the internet connection sharing. I already tried to change the setting in the usb2pc menu, but that does not help.
I am using the ROM "Gen.Y Manila by yozgatg" with TouchFLO 3D 2.1.38658.0 VGA.
Thanks!
AdmiralX

Please. anyone HELP!!
;-)

finally I got to popup back and can select active sync or external disc.
but only the external disc is working, if i select active sync the windows pc is still trying to start the internet connection sharing.
if no one can help, does anyone know a forum where I could get help?

Go into Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC, there you can enable the selection screen again

finally I found a solution, I had to change three different registry keys and deactivate fast data sync (was working with this option enabled before).

hi..is there a way we can choose activesync while fone is locked on password and stop it from going into diskdrive mode?

if you do Twabi2's suggestion the other way around and select acive sync once,
it should be possible.

GPS/E-mail Questions

Hey Guys,
I am pretty much all set up. Thanks to all the help and information i was able to Flash it to Helimis Big Storage Dynamic version, added some programs. All works great. Only outstanding items:
E-mail -When i set up gmail pop connection it doesnt seem to connect to gather the messaages on 3g/Edge serivce. However, i did a test and turned on the wireless connection in the comm manager. As soon as i have done this Gmail POP3 works like a charm. As soon as i disconnect the problem persists. I have 39.99 3g data plan. Should the mail work through this data plan? or do i need to always switch to wireless in order to recieve mail? (HIGHly doubt it)
GPS- I have yet to put tomtom on, but i tried my google maps. It "worked" great at one point, I ran Quick GPS and it was able to triangulate my location (get a lock signal -7-8 satelaties), but now it doesnt work. I know i read somewhere not to mess with external GPS, but i switched to COM port 2 but i never un-checked the "auto-config GPS". Do you know what could be causing it not lock in onto my location now. I think it actually did work after i changed to COM2.
COMmanager - i updated my comm manager to duttythroy 10 button version. It has a 3g button to disable it since it drains a lot of battery power. However, how do i disable the GPRS/EDGE doesnt it drain power as well? i see in the Kaiser section there is also duttythroy_data_disconnection+_hspda-switch.cab (what will this exactly doo?)
Thanks all.
Other than these my TILT is amazing.. loving it.. Thanks to everyone who posted and helped.

e-mail: Does web browsing work? If so, then you might have a server setup problem. If not, call AT&T's support and ask for the PDA help group.
GPS: In my case the GPS is COM4: and 4800 baud. You can set this in "Start", "Settings", "External GPS", then let Google use the "Use Windows Settings" checkbox.
COMmanager: Use Bandswitch instead. Works much better. Latest is 2.4.2, and much be purchased, but worth every penny. (30 day trial I think tho)

GPS: - do you put this under Program or Hardware tab? Or do i put com 4 port in both places
E-mail - internet works.. So i guess Server setup problem?
COMmanager- I just took a quick glance at Bandswitch. It seems that it can do everything that ComManager + Kaiser Tweak (kaiser can set time to termination of data connection. My question is.. in the com manager- you can terminate 3g, but GPRS turns on.. does GPRS drain battery? should there be another button to turn off GPRS too?
contact importer
Also anyone know whats a good contact importer. I have a CSV file with 138 entries similar to this one.
Type FirstName Last Name Mobile Home Office -1 IVAN Peters 16462366421
Email: For gmail, i put "recent:" in front of my email addy so it would be recent:[email protected] That should make it work.

I would love to know the answer to that one. I can only get Opera to run if I click the Java link, then copy/paste my links over. Quite tedious.
I would also like a 1-click way to start Opera....

Opera issues
Hey guys, i dont know what happened, but now all the sudden when i use Opera EVERY link i click on i end up loosing Medianet connection and it trys to re-establish it. It ultimatelly suceeds and loads the page... but this does not happen with Internet Explorer (everything works fine there). I also have KaiserTweak set to disconnect internet after 1 min of inactive use.. but its definatelly not that.. since i am active during my "test" browsing period. (which i did)
Any ideas.. i mean ITS Extremelly SLOW (sometimes 4 attempts to re-establish connection) and annoying.. It is also weird that it does actually make the 3g connection but then it breaks for no reason (tested in various locations)
Thanks for previous help - all those problems been solved - Except linking opera to all links (i click on) -> I am reading the trade posted in this thread about it.
- Question though.. i dont need to place a link into windows folder i guess since when i click explorer softkey it automatically opens Java Midlet. Or do i still need to perform that step?

I'm not sure whats causing your disconnect i never have that issue...but about your question...with the opera shortcut in your start menu it skips the step of opening your midlet manager then clicking on opera...then when you put that selector file in your windows folder its never asks for permission to remember your session and whatnot...it just goes straight to the home page in opera...

Disable 3g/gprs/hsdpa on tytn ii

I have a Tytn II on UK Orange. I intend to use the wifi intesively with my Exchange server for push email etc , but when I am not in a wifi zone I dont want it to automatically use any of 3g/gprs/hsdpa.
I may sometimes need to use them (hopefully activating 3g manually) if I am out and about.
I can disable hsdpa, but cannot find a way of disabling 3g/gprs without deleting the profiles in connection manager (which would mean I would have to create the profile again everytime I wanted to use it out of the office).
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Tom
i cant quite remember, but is there and option to do this in kaisertweak?

You gave yourself the answer.
What happens if you created another profile that is empty instead of deleting?

Hi dude
if your intend is only to not allow to any apps to automatically use your data connection but only the wi-fi try in this way:
settings -> connections (or networks, i'm not english, sorry!) -> connections -> advance -> network selection, and there put "office network" in the both options! In this way all your apps never use your provider data connection!
I don't know how to manage different profiles, as you said, however an other way to control the connections is by installing this CommManager or look this other one with the 3G button, so you can manually turn it on/off!
hope to help you!
Ciao

Just an update that the application does work on my O2 XDA Stellar. You can toggle the connections on and off as and when you require just by a single click.

Weird Activesync behaviour - HELP !!

[I have searched but not found help on this specific problem]
Hi, I have recently deleted the office partnership to my Tytn II and then updated with the official 6.1 WM ROM.
Now, when I place the Tytn in the USB cradle to connect my XP computer starts a file explorer window and then a small window with a connection request to www.msnusers.com. When this small window is cancelled then a second copy appears. After that is cancelled no further window comes. Then, the activesync starts OK and performs a normal sync.
So, is there a way to stop the file explorer window appearing and then the two msnusers connect windows ??
I have already removed AS 4.5 and re-installed.
Many thanks for tips.
It seems like you have MSN enabled auto connect or something. Have your tried going through MSN Live and see if you can disable it there?
Thanks Prolab
I don't find in Windows Live any autoconnect. I think you're right that something is trying to connect.
I checked my rss readers (egress & newsgator go) and these are not on auto connect.
I guess I will just have to keep hunting this bug.
Regards, D
Hi
Is seems this is a common problem. One solution that seems to work is to delete "My Web Sites on MSN" on the network neighbourhood. There is a lot of hits on google for this.
This stops the msnusers window.
Now I just need to find a way to stop the file explorer window.

active synch problem

i made a firmware update yesterday (official o2 firmware for my diamond) and since then i only can connect as a visitor (german: "Gast") to my device. so i can't synchronize my contacts and co. i google to solve the problems, but the solutions weren't solutions... It actually show the name of my device, but then it show me a failure message that the connection cannot be completed...so i'm visitor again.
Need help!
thanks!
Daniel
My friend also has this problem on the new rom but his phoen came with this ROM, he's on vista if that's any helpful information to you?
no unfortunately not, because i run on xp. Nobody who knows a solution for my problem? I read that you can find a registry entry with guest only or something like that... but i don't have found that entry in my registry... was that only a solution for an older version of active synch or do you also have such an entry?
Try going to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and turn off "Enable advanced network functionality"...might do the trick
already tested...unfortunately doesn't work
am i the only one who has this problem??? without synchronisation active synch is really useless

I've the same problem... I've searched for a solution, but nothing helped...
Now i found the reason for this problem. You have to delete the partnership on your desktoppc as well as on your diamond. For the diamond you go in the program folder and click on active sync and then you can go to menu->options and there you have your partnerships... delete them and you can synchronize again!

This has been asked, discussed and answered before.
May I suggest you to search previous threads titles to find ample details about this
BTW: YES it works a treat and it's worth (at least for me)
I can share my 3600kbps HSDPA internet to my laptop and my PC by just plugging the USB cable or thru WiFi
All you need is activesync and launch the "internet sharing" program

That's the other way around from what he wants, from what I understand he wants to share from PC to phone. You need to check "enable advanced network functionality" on the phone, and configure ActiveSync to share the connection, forgot which part of the AS UI it's in (I've been using Vista for too long, and Vista does this by default)
Um...yeah, my xperia does this automatically. I have not configured anything either on the phone, or on the pc itself. I have customized all the programs that need internet updates (like weather, rss feeds etc.) to update themselves when the phone is connected to the pc. Works like a treat and it doesn't matter if it's activesync or simple usb data connection.

Leddy thank you. The "enable advanced network functionality" on the phone was already checked, but I still could not find the desktop pass-through option in my ActiveSync 4.5 software on the desktop.
I did not give up though and I've finally got mine working - so for those who experience the same issue, this is what I did:
1. Open Registry Editor on your desktop (Start/Run and type "regedit") and locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.
2. Right-click on the value list and choose New/DWORD value. Type the name "AllowLSP" and leave the value zero. Disconnect and connect your device and programs on your phone will now have internet access.
This worked well for me. Another possibility that I haven't tested is because I set my "Computer is connected to the Internet" as illustrated here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/11/20/wmdc-activesync-pass-through-feature.aspx
Thanks guys!
I think it needs set up proxy setting on PDA and install proxyserver soft on PC...
thank you for the sharing... will try....
Internet by Activesync
Also, If you PC is running a firewall, you might need to 'allow' activesync in the firewall settings.
