[Q] self identification, return to owner app? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Other phones I've had had a way to display my name address etc at unlocking or boot, so if I lost it it was easy for the finder to return it to me. Is there a way to do this on the captivate? Or maybe there is some app available for this?

Nothing? Really?

Well, I realized I could stick a business card under the Amzer case. Its a short term solution, but I still can't believe the phone lock application doesn't have an option to display you neame, address and stuff. There has got to be something out there. I just looked a wavesecure. Seems like more than I want/need though, I just want to lock the phone and display my contact info so friendly (I hope) finder can return it!

There is app called ICE - in case of emergency , you can click it even if your phone is locked , you can put alot of info.

There's app that lets you lock, send alarm or GPS track your lost phone on the market. Search for it

That would be great if the GPS actually worked.

Dxtra, that ICE idea was a good one. Found that app. More than I need, but it's a possiblity. It also taught me some terminology. What I want to do is to put some text on the "Lock Screen". There still has to be a simpler way to do this...

you could always replace the boot/shutdown animation with whatever you want it to show (like your info and personal message)

I've created a little app that lets you set the touch key brightness, but most significantly, restores your settings on boot.
It's 99p and you can find it in the Market.
I've posted some additional technical info in this topic in the Development area.
Cheers!

must buy item ^^
The same thing can be done with launcherpro for free?

Indeed, Hidden Menu does this for you, much easier and cheaper imo
Please..somehow make this so you can light them up for notifications! That 99p price and be 5x higher if you do..it cant be that hard..take the code from apps like SMS popup and combine it with your code for touch key brightness, maybe?
Please show me how to make hidden menu restore the value on startup, the point of this app... thanks.

those look like Launcher pro icons there are tons of those white low opacity icons floating around probably why its hard to find try getting the app launcher pro icons there are a ton in there you might find the one your looking for they also have a website if you want to look through there database and just grab the icons you want if they're there!
I might be able to help you but i can barely see those icons your trying to find to actually distinguish between them..Like the guy above there are many that look the same so hard with a small pic to match them like that!

Give me your email, I have these installed on my phone and they are in the icons thread but they are deep in there and it would probably take a while to go through that entire thread. I think I have the name of the zip on my computer at home but I am at work and wont be off until 4 if you want to wait.
I have been looking for these as well.
Edit: Nevermind found it on Deviant Art. Give the creator props

[Q] "Search by Google" in status bar? How to remove?

How can I remove this search by Google bar from my status bar? (don't know how it got there unfortunately).

I take it chrome is your default browser, check in the settings for chrome, or reset the to default.
Aha! I like it acctually, so this is what you get if you download latest Chrome?
Edit: No I don't have it
Looking at where it's linking to I'd say some crapware app put it there.
Googling mobirowser.com gives the whois records for some shady sites, probably link sites to get add referrals.
Start by removing apps you installed last or don't need.

sounds feasable. Try downloading addons detector and running that. That app is very good at finding that sort of thing...
Found it!
It turned out to be an unofficial rotten tomatoes app.

glad I could help, I take it you use addon detector?

What's New UPDATE 1.4.A.0.0

Android users will be familiar with being able to access Google Now by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Well Xperia users also have the option of accessing Sony’s “What’s New” app using the same gesture, whether they find What’s New useful or not.
That is now changing as Sony has launched a new update for What’s New that moves the build number from 1.3.A.0.3 to 1.4.A.0.0. The update removes the What’s New shortcut when swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The only other change is there is now more information on media in the detail view. Seems a very handy update for those that were irritated by the What’s New shortcut.

Can confirm, that happened to me as well back then but of all things XDA has to improve (or me to figure out)... perhaps a secret incentive for the app?

True they do not accumulate or trigger correctly at times...
You can view your them under member profile.

I do not use the app.
Only have it installed for notifications.
I use the mobile website on devices.
Not sure how the app notifies you that you have reached another achievement.
Cheers.
PS.
LOL.
Looks like I unlocked the App User achievements in the beggining days of the app.
When I was trying to use it.
