is there a way to use mp3 as alarm sound ?? those provided in the list just useless, only a short beep that can't wake me up from bed.
You have to use a .wav file, which must be put in "Windows" folder.
Thanks, that seems teadious and squeezing on my pity little on phone storage. so if i decided to use external programe as alarm, is there a way to disable the windows alarm ??
You don't have to disable the default for using a third party alarm.

I figured out how to do custom ringtones but not how to set custom alarms.
How do I put an mp3 file I have to be an alarm? (all the alarms that come on the phone suck and def do not wake me up in the morning).
You need 3rd party software to use MP3s as ringtones.
Im not trying to do ringtones and I already am using mp3s as ringtones without a 3rd party app. Just put the song in the windows/ring/ folder.
Im trying to set a custom alarm.
Try Chronos, PocketAlarm or alarmToday.
All of these allow you to use an MP3 for an alarm, in addition to a variety of other advanced features.

Anything that doesnt cost money?
My bad, I meant alarms like your post wanted. As for cost, I haven't found anything free myself.
Mort Player
You can use Mort Player as Alarm Tool.
I use it too. You can use Mort Player with mp3 and the best function is,
that mort Player can chance the System Loudness to any Volume that you want.
So you can turn Loudness off when you sleep and MortPlayer will turn it on to wake you up in the morning.
And MortPlayer ist free

anyone else on an alarm program I can use that will allow me to play my own tunes. Or at least a way to put my mp3 file in a specific file so that it will show up on the scroll down list.
Make it a WAV file and put it into your /Windows/ dir.
Then go to your alarm app and click the "bell" and you should see your file.
converted it to a wav file. Came out being huge for one song though(32mb). It came up on the list but every time I clicked on it, it went to default. Whats going on.
I suggest you look a bit around in this thread, you'll find a few free ones in here too
Alarm applications
Hey, guys. I have a storage card with a folder called "Music" on it. There is all my music. How can I set a .mp3 as ring tone without any software? Kaiser has this option, but it always needs to copy the .mp3 file, that I want as ring tone in the main memory in "My Music". I think there's a registry tweak to do this... does somebody know how?
What I want: on the today screen in Sounds to be able to chose a .mp3 from my storage as ring tone without to copy it to the main memory.
I hope you understand me.. sorry for my terrible English.
Thanks.
I think I have seen this option change in SK Tools
Do it using Audio Manager
Audio Manager has this option to use any song as Ringtone.
It even has a function where you can Select the in-out points for the ringtone in a song.
Can anyone tell me how to change alarm ringtone to some custom mp3 one? I tried copying mp3 file to windows rings folder but it doesnt appear in available ringtones after that. Thanks.
Convert the mp3 into wav and then put it into Windows folder.
It should work then.

Click to collapse
The default alarm only accept wave file as alarm tone. Spb Time accept mp3 file as alarm tone but it is not freeware. You may convert your desired mp3 into wave file for your alarm tone.
Can someone tell me step by step how can I use different music for alarm wake up because I can't find any setting to do this? Ane how can I change music for incoming calls? All I can change are preloaded musics from SE but I would like to use my own mp3s.
u must convert the mp3s in wav and put them in the right directory. Also you can use galarm where u can use mp3 files
Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications >> Notifications (For incoming call etc).
(For custom ringtones for individuals, I just drop the mp3 ringtones into a folder called My Ringtones under my documents on the device, for a general one I think it just goes in the Windows directory).
If you know how to set an alarm, how do you not know how to change the alarm notification? Click on the alarm symbol and select the sound fle you want.
...I need new Alarm tones to my SE X1i...don't know how,or where to install new Alarm tones,..is it .wav or Wma format...
Thanks to everyone which can HELP!!!
You should try G-Alarm. Great alarm clock for your Xperia.
It'll let you use both MP3 and WAV-files as ringtone. Much more settings to adjust
