The built in camera app is actually one of the best I've ever seen on any phone. BUT, vignette's amount of options is incredible, if you play with the settings correctly you can literally take photos and automatically process them with effects etc that would require a copy of photoshop to recreate them with a standard digital camera. Interface on vignette bugs me though, they should take a hint from the camera on the galaxy.
I have a bunch of different ones installed on my phone, Camera Illusion is really fun because it applies the filter in the live view. I also have Retro Camera, Camera 360 and FxCamera.
They are fun to play with but I hardly ever use any of them.
Vignette and FxCamera
On a lighter side, sniper shot is a fun app.

Hi,
I was using a Samsung WB850F (smart camera as they call it) prior to Galaxy Camera. Now I miss some of the features that it has but GC does not. Maybe we could find equivalent apps on the Play Store which could bring these features on GC. I will try to update this thread with recommended apps for those missing features. Please share your ideas with me.
Also, I couldn't find how to activate digital zoom on Galaxy Camera. I don't believe that it is missing on GC. Do you have any ideas on how to activate it ?
Missing features and apps to get them:
- DLNA share (app: Skifta)
- 3D still photo
- 3D panorama
- Action panorama
- Remote Viewfinder
Hi,
it's surprising to have zero replies
I'd expect at least someone to answer my question about digital zoom.
There isn't a digital zoom on this camera, optical only I'm afraid.
AllShare is it's version of DLNA (as DLNA is the underlying technology of AllShare) is there something specific you're wanting to do?
You can't have true 3D without 2 lenses so I'm not sure what to suggest there?
Remote view finder/control, we're all gonna have to wait for Samsung to pull their fingers out before we get an official app, I know some people have used Remote Camera from the Play store but I dont rate it much.
Why do you need digital Zoom? That's something what you can do better with photshop and else. And, oh yeah, you have 21x optical zoom, u know?
Do you know Allshare? It's integrated and Samsung's way of dlna. For myself i use bubbleupnp. You'll find it within network-settings ---> more settings ---> nearby devices.
3D, ok that's a thing what can't be done, at the moment. With Android 4.1.2 Samsung brought some new smart-modes. That's the big deal with an android-camera, it can be upgraded and u can use other camera-apps. I use 360 camera for Tilt-Shift-Photography, but can only be used in portrait-mode.
Within 4.1.2 Remote-Viewfinder support is integrated but don't work with the available apps from Samsung. We have to wait for updates.
Regards, Martin

thanks for your replies. it's really suprising to see there's no digital zoom.
On the WB850F, I had 21x optic zoom and 4x digital zoom. It also had a smart zoom mode which supplies 26x zoom without any resolution loss.
I thought we should have it on GC too.
3D still photo and 3D panorama is also possible with one lens on WB850F.
I think it does it with some technology like sensor shifting.
You see, I thought GC would be an upgrade after WB850F but it (GC) has lots of missing features.
Maybe I should keep WB850F and sell the GC...
I know, to have Android on such hardware is really nice. It would be very customizable. But on the other hand, I really miss the features of WB850F.
hi , i really confused why the album photo gallery of android 4.1 or 4.3 is too basic and have not any setting or advance option !!
i cant sort picture by Date or Folder , there is no tab for separate Video and image
i can use Quickpic but it really question for me why Android developers design Album Gallery Like this !!
Simply bcs most users care more for eye candy and lesser for an efficient photo gallery. I mean as long as there are alternatives, why should I complain? I don't depend on my album carrying a Sony logo.
For a 2 weeks journey to China I was given a local Iphone. My world was shattered, I am still devastated how this can be the god that people queue up for @ 4am before the shop opens.
thanks for reply .
you know it`s strange for me more than be have complain
yes of course we can use alternative gallery apps like Quick pic . they fast and with a lot of options and Facilities
but they use a space and Rams . also They add Additional switch ( icon) when we want to select a pic or video

To my opinion QuickPic is a full replacement, and it needs only 1/8 of the space. Certainly you do need root to reclaim the space. The integration with Android not as perfect as Album, but is good enough, IMO.
There is also the ICS Gallery but it does not necessarily mean better functions.
I as well don't like the current drive to oversimplify and cripple things to such an extend, that they actually get difficult to manage.

QuickPic hardly uses RAM, is a lot faster, a lot more versatility and options, and if you're really worried about having to press an extra button to open a picture, next time you select a picture or video to be opened, just choose QuickPic (or any other app of your choosing) as default and forget about it.
I'd imagine a stock app doesn't have the full attention of a developer if the same developer is working on the ROM, which is why developers that focus on only one thing or app generally have a better functioning app, such as QuickPic, for instance.

With AT's help you may take a look at Albums's details such as Activities, Providers, Receivers, and Services. That may explain where a lot of the attention lies.
I'd also use another camera app. The Sony camera can be on by 3.parties without user knowledge. I am using Open Camera. It's a lot like Album vs. QuickPic.
I noticed a dramatic difference between the Google Camera and the 3rd party Camera Zoom FX application. The Google Camera brings in a good amount of light into the lens even in marginal situations. Camera Zoom FX is pulls in so much less light. There's no setting I can figure out. Could Lollypop restrict camera access in some funky way that is preventing the 3rd party app from taking full advantage of the lens?
i have noticed this in pretty much all 3rd party camera apps. people have reported that video conferencing in hangouts is also very dark
i have spent all day looking at different camera apps. i cant get "a better camera" to auto focus (but it has better in app lighting), camera zoom fx is much darker than "a better camera" but has good focus. the google camera app from banks gapps seems really gimped (no panorama, no 360, no hdr) and wont let me install the play store google camera (i got 504 errors with banks installed, and 505 when i moved thew camera2 folder from system/apps).
i am now looking into flashing a moto camera app, or trying to flash a closer to stock google camera app (preferably one that doesnt share signitures)

Check out Camera FV-5. They have a paid version and a lite (free). I spent the $3.99 and it works really well. It also has a lot of controls.

you can get good photos if you remove from recents, but the viewfinder is always dark. see attached. pure shamu b3.1/senseiR20.5, rooted.
i can almost get the moto camera app to work... it takes 1080p soundless video consistently, but photos crash the app, and hdr doesnt work

Alright, so I tried to take some pictures in a room with no lights on and only some natural light coming through the blinds. They look dark like your sample photos. Opened the slimGAPPS camera and everything works, including HDR, correct brightness, etc. I haven't tried recording video. As soon as I turn a light on, it seems to work normally.
In the camera fv5 app, I went and adjusted some of the exposure settings and shutter, the photo brightened right up.
Not sure what is going on. I will try a few more things and report back.

It's funny, it doesn't look like the photos themselves are too bad, just the display on the preview on the screen (i.e., the screen viewfinder). I am wondering if there is some Lollypop function that is not being taken advantage of fully by the 3rd party apps.
I have CM13, loving it but every camera app I try has some quirks. I don't want something too complex.
The stock CM13 camera takes very blurry low quality pictures. Not sure what I can do to fix it.
Open Camera takes good pictures, but I don't really like the interface.
I installed the moto camera. I like it, but often when I swipe left to see my pictures the app freezes. When I can look at the pictures they look good.
What camera apps are out there, that work properly and have interface similar to the CM camera?
Or even better how do I fix the CM camera?
A better camera is good but you need to buy it (otherwise it's very annoying)
I've just bought k20 pro and I noticed the snapchat camera is always zoomed in compared to stock or google camera, is there a way to fix that or am I missing something, because I use snapchat camera way more than stock one and the picture quality in that suffers due to zoom issue
Snapchat does not works well in an android because of lots of other android phones with different screen sizes, chipsets, cameras, etc and the its is not actually zoomed it is stretched due to full screen aspect ratio and quality is **** than stock camera all you can do is use filters or buy an iphone

It's all because external apps in android don't use hardware camera implementation, instead they are using preview from recording view. There is no way for you to fix it, but app developers can just change implementation. Hovewer they won't probably do it, as there are too much different devices running android.
It's not zoomed in. Keep in mind that you're comparing 4:3 to something like 16:9 to 18:9. It cuts off the sides, which makes it look like it's zoomed in, but it's not.
Nothing can be done. Snapchat, Instagram etc uses the screen capture of the view finder,so the quality of the pics will be trash. To get optimized and good results go for iPhone.(any variant)
