Has anyone else noticed that the screen stays on for like less than a second when a new SMS arrives? I can almost never get my hand over to the phone to unlock it before the screen turns back off. It would be most Excellent if there were a way to increase this timeout.
This would be great.
heard that +1
I agree, would make a good mod

Download (missed message notifications) from market, that will help until someone do something to resolve this!

I just wish the screen wouldn't turn on at all when you get a text message.

I'm sure this is in a basic FAQ or something... but I ask anyway.
Is there some way to get the screen to NOT go black after what seems like 3 seconds? I want the screen to remain lit basically until I tell it to go off with a power button push.

Embarrassing. Thanks.
Is there a way to increase the timeout while the phone is dialing and connecting? The phone goes black before the 4th ring and you have to hit the power button if you want to end the call.
how about on the lockscreen??

Actually I would like to know about this as well, the lockscreen goes blank really fast too.
Actually, if u have Widgetlocker you can set the timeout for your lockscreen. Mines set to turn off after 1 minute.

My issue is that regardless of what interval I set my screen timeout to, it somehow always defaults back to 30 seconds. I'm not sure if it happens after the lockscreen comes up or what, but the setting never seems to actually stick. I'm using Widget Locker (set to 1 minute), and have that set to override the system setting (set to 1 minute as well), and nothing seems to work.
Any ideas on how I can get my settings to stick? Has anyone even heard of such a thing happening?
Whenever i get a text my screen turns on. How do i make it so it just vibrates or makes a noise. The only way for me to disable the screen is if i turn off all notifications which is not what i want. Is there any solution to this. I am rootex

no? i disabled the lock screen so the back light stays on for the full 30 seconds :[
Bump, cuz I was going to ask the same question.
I was thinking of having tasker do this. But if theres some instructions somewheres I'd rather not have to fiddle w/ tasker. Brains not up for it, yet.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. My screen lights up whenever I get an email via the stock email app. Kind of annoying since I get cron job report work emails @ all hours of the night.
Oh, & I have searched... "stock email screen light" returns ~1K hits. I sifted through 7 pages of results before deciding to add to this thread.
Is there a way to lengthen the display time for the unlock screen. When i get say an email, i get a sound notifier, and the lock screen shpws for about 4 seconds. I would like the display to stay on the lock screen for 10 seconds.

The CM7 rom for other phones has that kind of tweak, but not the stock rom. But it seems if you knew which .xml file, or which framework file controls that timing, it would be a simple fix.
I agree, I would like the delay to be a little longer too.
Hi all,
I've searched this forum over and over but can't seem to find anything.
Just wondering if its possible for the screen to wake up when a new notification arrives? I sit my phone up at an angle facing me at work whilst charging and keep missing messages.
Surely there's a way? It's a bit nuts it isn't default.
Cheers.
go to messages settings notification display message on screen
Where's the Notification setting? I don't see them in Setting menu

That appears to only be a "sent" or "send failure" comfirmation. It doesn't display a new received message. I don't see that option.
I am using this app notify me. After installing it, go to accessibility and turn it on and off 2 times. Should work

This app also works really well and you can choose which apps you want the screen to light up for

I was wondering if any one knew of an app that would blink the capacitive home screen button when you have a notification. I have looked around on the play store to no avail. I have never developed anything for android. I have got myself setup to begin designing an app that will basically turn the home button into a notification light while the screen is off. If anyone knows of an app that can do this or would like to help please let me know.

I know this is nothing even close to what you are looking for, but I found it useful on another phone that didn't have a notification led.

If you could update with what it was that you found usefull that would be great. Thanks. I am looking for anything close to posibly even take ideas from.
It shows a small icon on the screen for different notifications, which if I remember correctly are all customizable. So it's a persistent icon on the screen letting you know about missed calls, texts, unread emails, or whatever you set it up for. It only uses a tiny amount of screen, and therefore backlight. Back when the Android phones first came out a lot of them didn't have leds for notifications. I don't remember having a big hit on my battery at the time from the program.

Ill have to check it out. I have used a few like that and they didn't act right, made the screen act weird. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just got the Turbo today, and I will try it out too. I know it was a lifesaver when I had my Samsung Captivate.
A nudge or a wave shows moto display, I think it's the natural evolution of a notification led
I know but i wish it didn't. I have the wave turned off but i cant turn the nudge off. I only want it to display if there is a notification. If there is nothing it should just wait patiently. But that's just me.

Now see I'm the opposite I want it to show more like battery %. I don't wear a watch anymore and love active display for checking time.

NiLS
NiLS in the Play Store will but notifications on the lockscreen... however you will have to disable Active Display and go with the normal lock screen.

That could work, thanks.
