I have already upgraded to the EVO, and am going to be giving my GF my old hero. I am on Fresh Rom right now, and it doesnt seem to have the phone codes installed so I can activate it on her account. does anyone know where I can find a rooted stock rom, or a different custom rom that has the phone codes installed so I can activate this phone on another account? Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, I found what I was looking for.

Hello folks,
Well I recently made the switch from iPhone OS to Android , picked up a used Nexus One in pretty good shape, no scratches, like new and what not, the phone is amazing BUT I am having a hard time understanding some stuff (I thought I was getting a stock N1, and it seems it has been loaded w/ custom ROM and is rooted and unlocked. -which not bad in my opinion, but...
I still have some questions, I am trying to update to Froyo 2.2, and im not sure if I will ever get OTA since the phone has been messed around with and if i manually update to 2.2 it will cause trouble.
1) When I boot the phone it shows the "lock" to be opened, so I am assuming it is oem unlocked, the phone has working WiFi tethering (just like in 2.2)
2) also in the menu of the phone there is an app "superuser permission" which thats why assume the phone is also rooted
And finally In the "About phone" I get the following:
firmware 2.1-update1
baseband
32.36.00.28h_4.06.00.12_7
kernel
2.6.34-cyanogenmod
mod version
cyanogenmod-5.0.8-n1-test3
build
epe54b
I have reset the phone to factory settings, but the same info comes up everytime. the phone runs flawless, no lags, overall i love the phone.
And finally if anybody knows please feel free to share, I am trying to open port 80 on the N1 while it is running Wifi tethering and the only way i have found to do this is if the N1 is rooted, correct me if im wrong... i have a rovio that is refusing to connect to the N1s network...
Any positive input will be highly appreciated! thanks!
Your not very confused!
Your phone is unlocked and has root. its running cyanogenmod-5.0.8-n1-test3.
You can install a custom froyo rom without too much of a problem from recovery. Remember to nandroid-backup everything from recovery first.
Get into recovery by holding down the volume down button as you press the power button to power on the phone.
Heres an example of tethering via usb/forwarded port

you can install 2.2 with no problem but you have to manually do it. you might get a notification for ota's but you won't be able to install them. just install it manually.
Man you guys are awesome! thanks for clearing this up for me.

Yeah man, you're money. For a used phone it is set up in possibly the best way possible for someone new to android and ready for you to throw the new CM6 ROM on there. You even have the proper radio already. You're good to go.
You can install Froyo in various ways. If you want total stock you can follow the instructions on this link and let OTA froyo install itself. If you need root you can download that from HERE
This method requires SDK installed with Fastboot on your computer with mandatory USB Drivers.
Or you can go the very easy way and use ROMs that is allready cooked, ready to flash in recovery right over your old ROM, like the link that is in my signature. It works great for me and is pretty much stock with root and a couple of extras you can delete via ADB if you don't need them..
Just download the Rom, drop it on the root of your SD Card and flash away in Recovery. all done!
What you are running is a test version of Cyanogen which is not the stable version. So it seems the previous owner didn't bother flashing it.
I just bought a Droid X and had it fully flashed to Cricket, now, my question is this: if I flash Froyo will I have to redo all the settings for Cricket so my mms, gps, and internet work? The only reason I am asking is because I didn't flash this phone myself and wouldn't know where to begin even though I have flashed several Hero phones.
Thanks for any input or advice.
I updated my rom to UD7 but before I did that I pulled all of the .apk files that I would need off of my phone so I could install them on the new rom. After the rom was installed I then installed apnbackup and restored my old working apn files to the new rom and everything works just fine. This might not be the correct way of doing things, but it seemed to work for me.
I have been searching high and low to get the apps working, but have come up with nothing, I believe I have everything right it just doesn't want to work.
I also flashed an eris and everything works fine, but the hero just isn't cooperating :/
Any help is appreciated Thanks.
This is way too vague. What ROM are you running? What apps are not there?
sry Im still kind of new to flashing phones. I just kept the official 2.1 rom, rooted. all the stock apps are there they just dont work, only internet. Do I need a custom rom for them to work? If you need anymore info just ask.
Thanks for the quick reply.
OK so I have a friend who bought a rooted hero running cyanogen off craigslist. She wants to active it but still keep root and run cyanogen. Will sprint active the phone with just a sense rom on it? I would hate to have to unroot and root again bc the friend lives a while away from me and I won't be able to help her.

Try Flashing a Sense Rom, and then Call the Carrier and see if they could Activate over the phone!
I'm pretty sure they'll let you, because I did it through Sprint!
I just did this yesterday... have the friend flash NFX rom so the dialer command prompts that they will ask you do will work.... then once the data does work on the phone... I'd suggest backing up that ROM for future calls to the provider and since you're there update the local PRL...
then go ahead and flash Cyanogen but make it a fresh flash instead of going back to the one that came with the phone so it will be your info on the phone now.
good luck
Hi, I just got a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SHG-T599N. I have successfully rooted the phone. Well, I think I did. All junk apps that I want to trash has the Disable or uninstall button greyed out. I didn't have that problem with my other rooted phones so I'm not sure if its truly rooted. Titanium Backup is running and says it's rooted. Did I screw up somewhere or is that how it is? Also I would like to install a custom ROM. Was thinking about PAC ROM. Does anyone know which version will work or have any recommendations? Thanks and have fun.
PS I'm not sure if this is the right thread since I couldn't find one for my phone.
