[Q] How do I extract files from ROM?

Is it possible to extract an APK from a ROM File?
If i take the JM5 ROM, I can unRar it and then I can unTar the md5 file that is the ROM - but from there I just get a bunch of system files that I assume are images of partitions. The big one is the factoryfs.rfs - is there a way to pull an apk out of here, or do i have to install on a device first and save the APKs i want?
Thanks.

[Q] What do i do with an .Odin3.Dump file?

When I first flashed my GT-I9000 I didn't know about the ClockworkMod backup option, so used the Dump option in ODIN3 - thinking this would cover all bases.
Now I've got a .odin3.dump file and don't know what to do with it.
The PDA field only allows .tar .md5 and .smd files
but the PHONE field allows .bin files
Do I rename it to .bin and use it as a PHONE file?
If so - What would be the settings to flash i.e. 512.pit / Re-Partition / EFS Clear?
I've founds lots of posts asking what to do with the .odin3.dump file, but no answers - I'm sure a lot of folk would welcome an answer to this.

[Q] Extracting one package file

I´ve read about extracting one package file and I noticed that when we extract that, it won´t generate the file BOOT.tar.md5
What is this file? Is the kernel?
I wouldn´t have problem if I installed a rom stock without this file, correct?
Thanks...sorry my bad english.
If someone want to know. After search, i found the file BOOT.img.tar is the kernel!

[Request] Modemfs Folder Donation

I don't know if the contents of this folder depend on firmware.
I need the modemfs folder for the firmware VSLP9 (Movistar Argentina firmware).
I'll appreciate greatly any help.
Greetings
Anyone?

full vlsp9 package, modemfs is inside...
Those files are meant to be flashed with Odin.... as far as i know there is no way of extracting the modemfs folder off of them. If you unzip the firmware file you just get a lot of .bin and .img files. If there is a way to do it please say it, cause i don't know how.
Actually if anyone can zip your modemfs folder (any firmware) so i can try it out, i would be very gratefull (i'm thinking baseband shoudn't make to much difference)
