[Q] Make the search in contacts "full search"? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear buddies in pain,
I would like to know if there is any way that I can make the phone search both names for a contact: name and surname.
When I get into the keypad and start typing alex (2539) I will not find a contact that has the surname Alexandru...I will get result only for the contacts that have the name alexandru...
Any ideeas on how to make this search ...
On the SPV C500(HTC rebranded) it worked perfectly....

Contact Manager

CanĀ“t find it anywhere (even googling), so decided to ask.
I would like to know if there is any app for winmo that has the ability to find contact by part of the phone number instead of the first numbers or name.
Example, the number is: 0146184173390 contact name: alessandro
If i type just 3390 and find this contact or others that has the same sequence number.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
the built in windows "search" will find it.
start>programs>search then change "type" to contacts for quicker find.
i use agenda fusion http://www.developerone.com/agendafusion/ and that will let me search on just numbers also from the contact list
Resco Contact Manager.

[Q] Darkyy's Phone app Contacts order by Surname

Hello Guys
Since I flashed Darkyy's 9.2 Extreme ROM, I cannot get phone contacts to display according to the SURNAME . Also problem is search contact by SURNAME, as typing to KEYPAD each contact is linked to FIRSTNAME. What I discovered as well, there is no HISTORY behind contacts (Name->Logs->Contact->History) and it stay empty! Is there any idea how to arrange contact according SURNAME, First name? Need to say that in CONTACTS->MENU->MORE->DISPLAY OPTIONS to set accroding SORT BY & DISPLAY CONTACT BY..... did not help.
Thanks for your clues.

Phone search has a serious bug.

If you have a business phone number to enter into contacts, it seems that Phone search function will not find that entry without a person entered into the contact info.
Sometimes you don't have a name of a person - just a company or government office to contact. If you enter the name of the company (under "Add organization" as you should) and phone number (under "Phone"), when you search for the company name using the Phone's search function, it does not appear in the Phone search results.
The same error happens if you search for a word in the address fields (in case you just remember the street of a contact and search for the street name).
The Phone search function should search ALL fields of your contacts. You may only remember a street name, city, first name, last name or whatever. You should see all Contact entries that contain the word (or partial term) that you search for.
Now I know full well that people are people and that people make mistakes. But, even raising this as a bug over at the Android forums isn't getting any attention from Google. Why would Google (of all companies) ignore such a basic search bug?
I am using Nexus 4 with 4.2.2 installed. I'd be very interested in knowing if this bug affects other Android handsets as well.
That's Contact information, not Phone information. Try searching Contacts.
^^^what this person said, I just did an address search in contacts and it pulled up the proper contact^^^
Also take into account that the search feature had to be changed due to apple playing patent pansies so google had to redo how they did the search. This could have been a side effect of this.

That doesn't make any sense....

That makes no sense whatsoever. All Contacts are viewable in your Phone app by clicking on the Contact symbol in the upper right corner of the phone.
The Contact list and the Phone contacts are the SAME LIST. There are not separate lists for Phone and People apps.
Searching for a contact (whether in the Phone app or Contact app) should search all contact text - no matter the field.

I hate to say it but he is right. I just tested this my self. Searching for a number by address didnt find anything but the same search in the contacts app brought the contact right up.

It gets worse...you cannot even search for a partial phone number. Try it.

Just have to put in the area code first and it worked. You could try 3rd party dialers. The open source ones are limited until some one codes in more options.

What if you don't remember the area code?

What if you only remember the last 4 digits of the number?
I'm just saying that searching for a person/phone number from the Phone app should search every field in every contact entry on your phone.
The one exception that I might see would be to exclude all contacts with no phone number information. After all, what is the phone app going to do with a contact with no phone number? The only possible purpose for the phone to pull up contacts with no phone number would be to add a manually dialed number (or a new number shown by an incoming call) to an existing contact, and it already includes "Add to contact" in it's menu options.
This should be simple. Contacts are text files. NOT searching the whole text file or each contact just doesn't make sense.
I just wish I could get the attention of someone at Google. So far, still nothing after reporting the bug in the Android forums.

I have a feeling this all goes back to the Search patent issues with apple that happened a while ago. I would really try a 3rd party app, this maybe your best bet.

Not sure if you still have this problem, but I found that if you use Google Contacts with your desktop web browser, you can set the phonetic name there and Google Now will then recognise it when you do voice dialing even though HTC People doesn't show it.
I used this for when calling my wife, but still keeping her name as the contact. I added the phonetic name "my wife" in one field (first or last). Now I just say "call my wife mobile" and it works perfectly.
