Backup internal SD to external SD card? Possible? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I'm finally ready to take this phone back and I wanted to know if it was possible that I could do a complete backup or the closest thing I can do to one from my internal SD card to my external SD card? That way if I ever decide to get an Android phone again I'll have all my apps and settings... Any guidance at all would be appreciated.

Is your phone rooted? If so, you can do a Nandroid nackup via clockwork recovery and then copy the nandroid to external sd or computer to restore later.

Thanks mate. My phone is rooted so I'll do the Nandroid.

you can use a file manager tool on the phone or the pc to just copy stuff from internal SD to external sd.

help with internal sd path and external sd path
I get confused between the internal sd card path and the external sd card path.
It seems plausible you could just copy from the internal sd card to the external, but could someone break this down for me and provide the paths for the internal sd card and the external sd card.
I have astro file manager, perhaps there is another tool that is better and could be suggested.
Thanks in advance

[HELP] New SD Card

Hi guys,
I'm planning to get a new SD card for my G1 to replace my current 4GB SD Card.
Currently, I'm running Cyanogen 5.0.8 DS and Apps2SD.
If I change to a new SD card, will anything be lost? or is there anything that I will have to take note of in particular?
Thanks!

Yea same. i wanna use a 16GB cause my 4GB is almost full. and i dont want to lose all my apps i have installed from Apps2SD. cause ik in ubuntu when u mount it shows the the partition part of the SD card. but idk how i would transfer apps from my 4GB to my 16GB
You will lose all your applications on your SD card, which should be 98% of them. To prevent this from happening, go to the Market and download an application called Backup for Root, it is free. Check APK's and anything else you want and hit backup. The backup will be created on your (old) SD card. Take your SD card and put it in your computer and open it up, you will see that there is a new folder in it called Backup, copy the contents onto your computer. Put the new SD card, fully partitioned, into your phone. Go to the market and reinstall Backup for Root and also place the contents from the backup folder onto your new SD card, check all that apply in the application and hit restore.
Another option:
Using your recovery image, create a backup using Nandroid or BART (I use BART). The backup will be on your old SD card. Take that backup and put it on your computer. Put the BART/Nandroid backup onto your new SD card into your phone and through the recovery window restore it. Make sure your SD card is partitioned in the exact same way, I have not done this method before so be careful. However, if this method works it will ensure that all applications stay intact as opposed to the previous method where some applications just seem to break, it is inevitable.

[Q] Inaccessible internal SD card; CWM sees it - how to save data?

Hi fellow members,
I'm facing with inaccessible internal sd card problem since today morning. Everything worked fine, phone was a bit laggy so restarted it. After that, usual SD card check run and I keep getting "Damaged SD card - SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it." message External 32GB SD card works well.
Titanium Backup does not see the internal sd card anymore. Tried Root Explorer Lite, it does not see it either.
I have been using this rom for 2 months now without problems:
[ROM][GT-N7000][JB][4.2.1] Official CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies
When I boot to Recovery, ClockWorkMod does see both internal and external SD cards... Tried to hook up to PC while being in recovery to save data from internal card to PC, however it does not see the phone there.
Questions are:
how to fix internal sd without reformatting it?
how to save internal sd card's content to PC (either from recovery)?
what do you suggest?
Thank you in advance for your help.
ps: I do not have AT&T version of Note1, but the international.

This app is simply amazing! Could select the whole internal sd card content and paste it to a folder on external sd card IN RECOVERY MODE. Now have to figure out how to fix the inaccessible inner sd.

Weird SD Card Name on MM(6.0.1)

Hi,
My phone is installed by a pre-rooted MM rom and currently it's working welll without any problem.
But I found out one issue for sd card name.
internal memory name is under 'sdcard'.
sd memory(External) name is under 'storage/9016-4EF8'.
I think some app's data is not moved to sd card(External) due to that sd memory name.
For example, I installed "Day" app and data is saved both 'Internal' and 'Ext' in Link2SD app and App2SD app.
I checked file location for the app using 'Link2SD' but app's file location is still in the Internal.
Internal - Data(Data in Link2Sd) : /data/user/0/com.osmino.day
External - Data on SD Card(Data(Ext.) in Link2Sd) : /data/media/0/Android/data/com.osmino.day (Why internal???)
So I could not move data to Data(Ext.) because it's already recognized Data(Ext.) to extern SD card.
I think External SD Card file location would be like this "/storage/9016-4EF8/data/media/0/Android/data/com.osmino.day".
How can I change sd card and internal name or move to external sd card to move to external SD Card?
Do you have any idea?
Thank you.

There are several paths to the external SD card with MM
/storage/exfat_uuid
is probably the shortest.
Download a copy of root explorer and familiarise yourself with the new MM file structure, it's not complicated, it just has new names from LL.
Using apps to move other apps onto the SD card doesn't sound like a recipe for success.
Let the Sony app manager do it.
thanks for reply.
then how can i move data to real external sd?
my storage is not enough so i need moving.
i think some app try to install data in external sd. I think many apps try to find sdcard named. currently sd card is internal memory. and exact sd card name is storage/9016-4ef8. i think that's why my internal memory is not enough.

Take the SD card out, save the data on it, then format it
When you put it back in your phone and it asks you what to do with the SD card, DO NOT format as internal storage. This feature doesn't really work, or if you do get it to work. then it's really buggy and apps can't use it.
Once you have the SD card working, just use settings/apps/*your app* In the first bar down it will say where the app is stored and if you click on it, it will give you the option to move it.
