thanks for your reply but that looks like its working for the computer hard drive anyway to use it for sd card, or any other advice
also when i go to sd card properties and try error checking and click start nothing happens the box just disappears
if you can mount the disk on a computer you can use basic disk repair tools.
i dont think i can mount it when i try to open it it just says disk not formatted format now y or n. i imagine thats why error checking is not doing anything
anyone else got anysuggestions????

IS this using a PC card reader or the phone? If you have a PC card reader then you can run repair/recovery tools. Trying to open it will give you an error, you need to user recovery tools.
Using google, I found this one example:
http://www.cardrecovery.com/
thanks for all your replies. i have a card reader. that card recovery program is 40 bucks which i guess i might have to do huh, there is no way to fix it for free?

I am sure there are some free tools if you search for them. I was just pointing out an example.
On a pc you can even try the chkdsk command on the drive
Go to a command prompt; then type chkdsk followed by drive letter followed by /r - so if your card is detected as E then do: chkdsk e: /r
There are other free tools out there, but you have to see if any are made for memory cards.
Ok I was just about to buy the 40 dollar program, cheapest one I could find. Then I just saw your last post and I tried that and it says chkdsk not available for raw drives, so should I just buy the program and move on with my life or is there some other trick to get chkdsk to work, thanks again do much for all your help

Yeah boy! Chkdsk fixed it. It wouldn't work directly in the pc and it wouldn't work through the captivate, popped it in my wifes blackberry and chkdsk worked. Funny cause I had all my credit card info filled out ready to buy a program and I figured I'd try a little more. Thanks everyone for your help, saved me 40 bucks, or more

Gald to hear it. Make sure you back up your SD cards if your data is that valuable.
Some systems are more tolerant of disk errors then others. Sometimes just unmounting and remounting a disk in the same PC will get rid of that RAW disk error.

Hi
I have 2 gb micro sd card and I want to format it using Resco file explorer. But it keeps telling me to check to see if its unlocked.
I use to be able to format without a problem. But i have recently started to flash roms. I can put stop and take stuff without a problem. Just won't let me format.
I also tried formatting using my laptop, but won't work.
EDIT: Sorry, wrong place. Wanted to post this in general Kaiser forum.
Is the little write protect tab on the side of the sd card in the right position??
i moved it off the lock position and nothing? my comp won't even let me right click it. when I click to open it, says needs to be formatted and when i click format PC says it can't be formatted.
I searched on here, but no thread about this type of problem. card isn't ruined because i can still add and delete stuff.
I never experience this issue .. quite confusing.
However, this should be posted in General forum, not ROM Development. Mod, please move as such ..

Could be a problem with the card / slot connectors. Try with some other card reader.
I had an issue once where I couldn't format my card - I had no lock errors though, just couldn't format through the PC or with PPC programs.
Eventually I installed 'Flash Format' by CNetX (google it) - it formatted first time on the free evaluation version.
Worth a try if you're about to bin it!
Good luck.

You sir are a genius and a life-saver!
This product is a magical potion for the microSD card. I tried so many different things online, on the laptop, and the Kaiser and none worked. This thing took less than a minute and formatted with the click of one button.
Mods, please move this thread. Hopefully it can help others who might have this problem in the future.
Thank you very much sir!
Glad it worked - it's very strange that this little program seems to be able to sort the issues that even the premium programs can't....
Hey, Im trying to install and run android x86/arm on a 7 inch cheap netbook from eBay. I know it can be done "watched on youtube" but i follow the tutorials, download file extract the "script" folder to SD card, insert SD card into netbook, power on and it should start installing android.
This does not happen so tried with "unetbootin" to the SD card, inserted into netbook, power on....still nothing and boots straight into Windows CE each time.
Can anyone help me out ?
I'm assuming it doesn't have a DVD slot?

Nope, no cd/dvd drive (i wish) and usb does not support 2.0, so cant use an external dvd drive either.

I think I'd be tempted to get one and put Ubuntu on it.
Well yeah that would work, its for a 11 year old, would they understand ubuntu, and would wifi and facebook is all that really needed to work. And i need it to reconise the sd on boot.

did you try to clean format your sd card before installing?
use a tool called hp usb storage tool, google it, you can find it in softpedia and format the sd card using it, usually solves a lot of boot problems
Tried formating with the tool to FAT32, copied the script for android to SD, nothing booted into CE and so...tried live usb creator to make the SD bootable still nothing boots into CE.
Really annoying

yeah it sounds weird, he got into the setup without pressing anything, hmm, did you try another sd card?
Now that u mention it im using a 8gb micro sd in an SD adapter.
Try a smaller card . Maybe a phone or some other powered device as the "card reader". Just throwing out ideas. GL.
Does the device even recognize the card when powered on normally? Like as a storage device?

i have a "MyPassport WesternDigital 350GB" HD...The drive was formatted as FAT, to be used for both my macbook and my windows computers. a recent mistake (in-proper/unsafe eject) caused my partition to not be able to mount in mac nor windows, in disk util on my mac, the drive shows up, but is in grey letters and says it cant mount, tried repair/verify disk multiple times, restarting computers and so on...i have found software that shows my partition with my files, but every application ive tried requires a activation key which must be payed for and i dont have $50 to just fork out... Can somebody PLEASE PLEASE help, it is really important that i do not lose my data! too many important files to lose ! :crying::crying::crying::crying:
Thank you!
Try to format the drive using Easeus or use Linux to see the files.
If you format, you will need a tool that finds your files on it, i recommend recuva

Try checking errors from windows. Goto start->run and type cmd for command prompt. Type in there chkdsk -r followed by the drive name.
Ex: chkdsk -r h:/
Or chkdsk h: /r
Or chkdsk -r h:
This should work. And if it does not, do the following
Insert windows xp or any linus distro cd/dvd. While the installation process, it generally asks to format a particular disk or reformat it to some other file system type etc. Just format your external hd partition to fat.

According to me best is to use GParted to format the disk.. It has saved me a lot of times.

Hello, Finally made an account after lurking and flashing for a few months. This one is really stumping me...
SO.....
I was going to do a new install and wiped everything. I was trying to get the full size of my external 32gig card back after partitioning it for a app2sd setup and formatted it with disk utility(OSX). I ended up formatting the internal(I Know) by accident being a fast-click McGraw. I caught my mistake and formatted the external like originally planned. I think I formatted them to vfat.
After all this formatting, CWM and ADB won't mount my disks. CWM will not format them either because they won't mount. I have no rom loaded to boot into and I can't flash a new one because neither drive will mount.
I have been trying what seems like so many different things to include trying to make an EFI bootable Linux Live usb(didn't boot). This issue would probably be fixed by now if I wasn't using OSX but hey, it's what I have to work with. If anyone can help end my multi-day madness with a solution, great appreciation would be had.

Yea i understand im not a big of ms. Running Linux isn't really beneficial since you can do everything in osx. You can even compile but getting some packages is a pain. Anyways can you not push anything to / or does that partition not even exist? You could try mounting USB storage from recovery but i doubt that would work. We don't have hiemdal for this phone or you could use linux. Windows might be your only option find an iso somewhere if you don't want to register or download enterprise 7 by providing whatever the info it asks for, make it up.

Use this command or something similar.
./adb push /file path of ROM /
But if USB works then when its mounted just put a ROM on drag and drop and flash it.

Got it fixed!
While my Exhibit was down, I started using this Blackberry Curve I have as a backup. Decided to put my microSD in it and formatted it. I saw that it put the card back to its original storage space and got rid of the non-accessible partition. Loaded my backup onto it, CWM finally mounted it, and I flashed it.

So this is for a friend of mine and i just spent the last hour or so searching for fixes. he came in to work today complaining that his SD card wasn't working. He plugged it in to his computer using an adapter which the computer recognized and said it needs to be formatted. When he tried to format, it failed multiple times. (we also tried doing this with his phone plugged in via USB but we couldn't access the card that way. The phone wont mount the sd card in his S4 active or my S4)
We then went on to try disk management which also failed. I searched and found a video about using the command prompts and diskpart to wipe it but that failed as well. The computer is also showing his 32gb card as 30.1MB. (this was a problem when we tried to partition it using diskpart)
I found another link in a forum that mentioned using ZAR, that failed, as well as SDFormatter.
He has some nostalgic pictures on there he really would like not to lose so im trying what i can to help him out. I believe i can completely wipe his card if need be but i want to try and recover before it comes to that.
Is there anyway i can fix this or is his card toast?
