hi everyone!
i was wondering if anyone can halp on how i can replace ADW launcher that CM has on his roms to the new Launcher2? i know it can be done through ADB but i don't know the commands. any help is much appreciated =)
Just go to the market and download/install the alternative launcher of your choice, once its installed you'll get a popup asking which launcher you want to use as default, check use as default, then touch the launcher you've just installed. That simple.
Since you want a non-market launcher the above suggestion will not work.
Prerequisite:
Your Launcher2.apk does not use a shared user ID or has been resigned with the CM6 platform keys. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then you need to following option #2 below.
Option #1 = Prerequisite satisfied:
Code:
adb push Launcher2.apk /system/app/
Or, copy it to /system/app/ using a root file manager of your choice (ES File Explorer is great and free).
Option #2 = You don't understand the prerequisite:
Either install Kang-o-rama 1.0 Final (CM6) and use the Advanced Installer flag to install the new Launcher2 as your default launcher (easy and a great rom... ).
OR
Pull Launcher2.apk from the Kang-o-rama rom zip (/install/kor/Launcher2/) and then follow the procedure in Option #1 above (I have modified the new Google Launcher2 to work with CM6).
sweet !! thanks djmcnz!! option #1 worked perfect!!!

I accidentally Deleted my Launcher app using titanium backup. Is there anyway to reinstall the launcher? I really don't want to have to reflash the whole rom. I'm just using a rooted stock rom.
i suspect you just need to push the launcher.apk to the appropriate destination. search around for instructions on how to do it, and a copy of the file itself
you can download helix launcher from the market. great launcher I use it all the time. I prefer it to the stock launcher anyways.
You can also just reflash the rom your using again, it wont delete any apps or anything and it will relace the stock files.
you'll need to find the Launcher2.apk from the Rom you use. just extract the Rom and search the extracted folder: /system/app . once you find the apk file, you'll need to push it to /system/app on your phone via adb or the Su file manager (available in market)
I did the same thing...
I have a Milestone 3 (Brazilian Droid 3) and after installing a new home screen, i deleted the standard motoblur home screen (not without a backup of course). I didn't know that a factory reset don't reinstall the standard programs of Motoblur, so now i have a handset without launcher.
I can't access by ADB, due the factory reset deleted my predefined configurations and I can't access the market to download a launcher.
The only thing I have is the lock screen, the notification bar and a black screen below the bar. When i plug the USB i have the options to access the Motorola Phone Portal, USB, Windows Media Link and Charge only.
I tried to find the base rom to reinstall, but i couldn't find. Tried to find a shortcut to use by the keyboard, and got the same result.
I'll keep trying to find a way, and if anyone could help us i'll be glad.
Thanks
I would have hoped that the OP has managed to get his phone working after a year and a half.
Have you tried using the desktop android market to push a launcher to your phone?

Hi all,
I personally really like the default Launcher2.apk from froyo, however unfortunately Cyanogen has now only included ADW.Launcher in cm6. After upgrading to cm6-rc1, I'm having trouble locating a copy of a Launcher2.apk from froyo.
As my phone's bootloader is not unlocked, it'll be a large hassle for me to go back to stock, and upgrade just to get Launcher2.apk...
I was wondering whether someone could post their stock /system/app/Launcher2.apk from an FRF91 install, to save me the trouble.
If you have adb installed, the command should just be:
adb pull /system/bin/Launcher2.apk
Cheers, Xanium
remote object '/system/bin/Launcher2.apk' does not exist
Just pull it from a stock rom and push it back overwriting ADW.
Mine had trouble seeing it. I tried a version I compiled myself from AOSP, as well as a resigned one from a deodexed FRF91 rom without success. I'm sure I missed something. I don't know what though. I've replaced the launcher in older CM versions with my own modified one without issues.
If you download CM6 from ROM manager you can choose to install with ADWLauncher or Launcher2
Launcher2.apk and Launcher2.odex are located at system/app. not at system/bin

Really? Awesome. I guess I'll have to try that.
Here is a stock AOSP build of Launcher2.apk.
EDIT: Rom Manager didn't allow me to select launcher. The file I linked to above worked fine though. Just reboot and it will default to Launcher2. The ADWLauncher entry in the Settings app will disappear as well.
I made an update.zip (for hdpi-devices) to make replacing the launcher easy for future upgrades. It just adds Launcher2.apk and removes ADWLauncher.apk.
Launcher2 just keeps FC on my G1. I'm using CM6-RC1.
I installed like:
adb .\Launcher2.apk /system/app/Launcher2.apk
adb reboot
Phone boots but launcher just keeps crashing. Do I have to do some kind of wipe to get this to work? Does anyone have Launcher2 working on CM6-RC1?
EDIT: Perhaps I need to uninstall the old ADW launcher? I rm'd it from /system/app but another post suggested using pm unsinstall com.android.launcher. I haven't tried that.

You need Launcher2 built from AOSP for mdpi. The one in my post is for hdpi. I forgot to mention that.
I get an error in Amon-Ra Recovery when trying to flash your zip file (nexus one, CMod RC2/nightly), Blunden.
Code:
E: can't open /sdcard/replace-launcher-signed.zip (bad)
Any ideas? I tried the manual uninstall of ADW and installation of Launcher2.apk but Launcher2.apk says it won't install.
Never mind. I downloaded your AOSP-compiled version of launcher.apk and it worked without a hitch. I must have had a corrupted file when I tried to install before. Thanks for posting the files!
no you cant

Any chance to re-upload the File?
Seems that mediafire refuse the request?!

hope this helped
Download works fine again
Thanks!
Is there any way to get the default Froyo launcher on CM6 instead of the ADW Launcher that Cyanogen has included (or LauncherPro, or any other alternative)? I found a Launcher2.apk that I think is used on the Droid Froyo build, but it just Force Closes when I run it on my G1.
Any ideas?
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2739-how-to-remove-adw-and-use-21-launcher/
i guess another option would be to flash super f and pull (via adb) the launcher then push it into Cy6
EDIT: same method as above but that is for the 2.1 launcher
Here is the apk.
Here it is. I had the same idea and pulled it from super F.
Wow, thanks guys, pushing that Launcher2.apk file worked perfectly!
I do have a quick follow-up question - how can I lock the new launcher in memory? (Can't find an option in Spare Parts). Thanks again!
Can you tell me how you did it.
I pushed it to the right place without removing adw laucher as i want to keep it.
This should give me the choice when i press home but nothing comes up?
Hi,
Is there some way to use the LG Home widgets with other custom launchers? I love the Music and messaging widgets, but the launcher sucks. I want to use these widgets on GO Launcher..
No way, maybe you could make other choice.
Same problem here...on my optimus dual it is possible (even if the weather animation is not working anymore). On my girlfriend's Optimus Black, it is not possible to find the original widgets once you launch Go Launcher. I can't figure out why. But i noticed that it happens even on other widgets downloaded from the market. Folders problem maybe? I hope that someone help us.
LG widget is only available on LG Launcher.
Other downloaded widget must be available on all launcher (if they are compatible with the launcher)
it's possible with appwidgetpicker (search apk and guide on xda)
i use 1.2.0 version and with adw launcher i can use all the lg widget
Do you use it on the Optimus Black phone? I noticed that this phone has a different menĂ¹ for widget\background etc... selection. Do you confirm that this app will work without any issues with the existing menĂ¹? Please let us know. Usually i don't like to put things in the system folders, especially because i don't know how easy will be to recover this phone after a brik. (i have an Optimus Dual, and it is really easy to fix with nVflash)...

please give us instructions, I can't paste the file to c/system/app!!!!!!!!
Here are the instructions to do it..
1. ROOT
If you haven't already rooted it, do it using the Gingerbreak.apk.
2. INSTALL TERMINAL
Go to Market, download and install the Android Terminal Emulator app.
3. MOUNT FILESYSTEM AS R/W
Open the Terminal Emulator app and enter the following commands
Code:
$ su
Grant super user permissions.
Code:
# cat /proc/mounts
This will print a whole lot of stuff on the screen. Search for /system and note the mount point. Mine is /dev/block/mmcblk0p8. Now enter the following command.
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 [B][COLOR="DarkRed"]/dev/block/mmcblk0p8[/COLOR][/B] /system
4. DOWNLOAD AppWidgetPicker.apk
Google for the file and download it.
5. COPY APK
Copy the AppWidgetPicker.apk to /system/app using Root Explorer or any similar app.
Don't forget to set the correct permissions for the copied file.
Also note that the filesystem remounts to R/O after reboot.
Hope this helps
So there's no way to use lg widgets on custom launcher if phone is not rooted?

Rooting is easy, takes a few seconds with gingerbreak
Help... i dont know how to do it
-If you have froyo with root, or GB with root:
You have to use appwidgetpicker (search in the forum for it). You have simply to copy it into your phone and give it the right permissions (you find the guide in the trhead in wich you can find it)
-you you have froyo without root or GB official (unrootable)
you can't
this is also to have stock widgets in every alternative launcher, so if you change launcher with every other alternative launcher you have the same problem.
