DIVX VOD, what is this for? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is a divx certificate in license settings of the phone.do you know what is this for and should I register?
Sent from my GT-I9000M

I think it's for purchased movies.. You grab divx player, sign up for an account, and enter the device code, it sends you a special movie you play on the device which links the account.
BUT, I'm pretty sure thats all it's for. I've personally never seen any need for it, or heard of any need for it. It's possibly just a requirement for the Divx certification process (so samsung included it simply for that reason, it doesn't mean they recommend it, which is why it's buried).

Thank you. I don't need it either.everything works fine without it

Playing iplayer content on Diamond

I recently came back to the HTC fold after a year of uing Nokias by being given a Diamond for my Christmas and I've given my wife my N95. I have spent the last week searching various forums to try and solve the following problem.
I used to use my old phone to watch programmes I had downloaded from the BBC Iplayer site. I presumed it would be as easy as using Windows media player on my PC to sync the content to the Diamond as I could do with my old XDA Mini S. Unfortunately it's not !! I keep being hit with error messages saying that it requires a licence. I have tried downloading it with iplayer downloader and renaming the .mov file to mp4 which at least gives me picture but no sound on the Diamond. It is all the more galling when I see my daughter just dragging and dropping content onto her Creative Zen mp4 player and it plays without any hassle.
If someone could suggest a simple and hopefully guaranteed method I would appreciate it. I ahve searched the forum for this but all the threads relate to streaming content to the phone. This isn't really an option because I am on Orange with a pretty meagre data package.
Second that...
Yeah, I'd like to know the answer to that one too. I can play iPlayer programmes on the device via the video streamer thanks to the information in this forum, but I get the same lisence error if I try and play a programme I've downloaded on my PC... even though the download actually says it's for mobile devices?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

You'll have to search the forum for that one my friend... I can't remember where I saw the information. You have to update one of the settings in Opera to fool iPlayer into thinking your device is a Samsung Omnia, then visit the mobile iPlayer site and click away. The videos stream throught the pre-installed video streaming app on the device. (At least pre-installed in stock ROM's, if you're using a custom ROM then the cooker may have removed it!)
Happy searching!
The device needs to support playback of DRM protected content, to be able to playback the stuff downloaded from Iplayer. (something like that)
Thanks for that
It's not the streaming of programmes I'm trying to do it's playing files I have already downloaded and want to transfer to my Diamond

Have you tried coreplayer ?
Not the answer to the original question I know but a bit of info for streaming iplayer direct from the BBC website. I use Skyfire browser which is fine, and pretty quick.
Problem resolved
I did as suggested and installed coreplayer and I can play the content. I'll go through what i did because I'm not entirely sure that Coreplayer resolved the problem or no.
I downloaded Coreplayer and installed it on the phone. Because I had deleted the previous downloads I used my daughters laptop to transfer a programme she had downloaded to her Creative Zen. After I transferred it to my phone I went into File Explorer and clicked on the programme rather than opening in Coreplayer it opened in Windows media player. A warning popped up as usual "A licence is required to play this file" and it offered to download it as before. I thought "here we go again it'll fail to get the licence and won't play" but surprise surprise it played fine. Now I'm not sure if Coreplayer installs a codec that allows these files to play or whether the phone got a licence off my daughters laptop that was designed for the Creative Zen but bottom line is that it works. So I'm happy

Hulu and Flash

I noticed that Hulu's Flash Player requirements are 9.0xxxx, whereas the Flash Player that is in JACHero is 9.1xxxx. Has anyone had any luck with any Hulu videos?
Whatever your feelings on Flash, the fact remains that having Hulu.com working on Android would be a significant attribute for many people - even if you personally think of it as silly.
For me, G1 + Hero ROM + Hulu = Bliss!
Hopefully, the Flash Player will be updated again with another leaked Hero firmware.
I haven't been able to play hulu either. I just loads and does nothing else. When the hero rom was leaked some one said they were watching family guy on hulu.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/27/ps3-owners-get-boxeed-hulu-this-video-is-not-available-on-yo/
In the comments people were saying it no longer worked with the winmo skyfire browser either, so perhaps this has something to do with it? Although i would expect you see the error message instead of just nothing...
It would seem Hulu is blocking everything but desktop computers... they've locked out Boxee, XBMC, PlayStation 3, Windows Mobile, and are adding blocks everyday. Vewy vewy sad
Hmmmm....I wonder is there a way to mod the browser to change the user agent data it sends out to sites to say it was firefox etc? There has got to be a way. Or is there a proxy that can do this?
And, is there a way to increase the amount of space for the cache on the sdcard.
Can the flash player play streaming radio stations?
Wasnt the flash on JAC rom replaced by fatal1ty's?
I wonder if that was the reason why hulu doesn't work anymore.

hulu never worked on JAC's version, the guy who had it working posted in the fatal1ty thread. i'm pretty sure he did anyway.
Me personaly I have tried... it gave me one error where it said I didnt have the cache space I went and cleared the cash and then it just loads and loads and loads... It wants to work but Im thinking it needs a tad bit better flash player...
ps double tapping on anything flash will set it to full screen... I think its sick! Hope they do update it... peace!

Well, for the user agent, you can use steel, but flash won't work unless there is a version based off of the HTC browser. Is there a source code for steel?

I am thinking that there will probably be an upgrade to HTC Flash before Hero's release. Think of their embarassment in the face of an almost working Hulu. They need the sales, so let's hope they tweak the player a bit to work right. If YouTube works fine, I see no reason for Hulu not too.

The flash that comes with Hero is not the reason we can't watch Hulu on our phones. It is Hulu that is at fault. They do an HTTP headers check and see what operating system/platform/browser version we're visiting Hulu from and if it's not from a desktop pc then it won't play. They do this on purpose for legal reasons. Hulu has already blocked skyfire on windows mobile (the only flash capable windows mobile browser) and they've block anonymous proxies so using a proxy hack is out of the question.
in comment to fatal1ty/jac browser/flash they were the same ones, taken from the ruu/wwe hero rom release. there was nothing different.

Well if that was the case then a simple About:debug in the browser then a change in the UA string from android to desktop would fix the problem......although this is not the case we need a better flash player UA string is a simple problem the fix.
When i go to hulu, it says error loading, check your browser and try again.. or something to that affect. Then when I refresh, it says loading FOREVER.
I think the site has put the brakes on us.

I was trying to make it as simplified as possible. In actuality a developer has countless information about what device is visiting their page thru FLASH. Please read up Flash and private information it sends and what is capable of being requested by a dev at Hulu's side.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/privacy.html
They can find the pixel dimensions of our screen and determine we're on a mobile device. They can use the user agent string, DPI, screen resolution, and determine we're on a mobile device. There is absolutely nothing EASY we could do to trick Hulu into not knowing we're on a mobile device. So once again I will reiterate that our version of FLASH, or copy of FLASH is NOT the problem. Hulu is walking the line between legal video distribution and copyright infringement so they will do whatever it takes to keep whatever devices they want from not visiting their site. Our only hope interim would be a site that'd convert flv to perhaps html5 video tags which our browsers support.
Is the Hero flash player even capable of playing FLV? It may not support the entire Flash 9/10 specification.

I still don't see why a browser couldn't send false answers to these requests. I visit iPhone-only sites using the Steel browser; it might be more involved to do the same for flash conent, but possible, no? Or else, download the flash file first and then open it in Htc Flash Player?
Bump:
I just did some research, and Hulu is entirely blocking the flash player from loading for WinMo users, whereas from Hero, it is loading, just not playing video. The rumor is that Hulu is releasing a WinMo app soon, hence their desire to stop their site from being accessed otherwise. Whereas, their is no such app purported to be in the works for Android - so I believe that your theory is incorrect.
Furthering my case is the fact that the HTC Flash Player is also not working on a few other video sites that only require Flash 9. I still believe that the player just needs a little more work.

Mikeg,
Its working here for the last three days on my tab.
Do you get errors when starting the audio?
Doesn't work for me
I'm a big Overdrive user on the PC and was excited to see it available on the Gtab, but it seems there are some issues.
The Overdrive program runs and I am able to register my Adobe ID. However:
- it only allows me to download ePub or mp3 files, as it thinks I am am Apple computer (probably due to the browser)
- every ePub file I tried either gave me a permissions error or the download hung and never finishes.
This is with the Boston Public Library Overdrive site.

I cannot seem to find any that are not in Window Media format. I have tried to download and play one of them but says does not support that format (cannot remember exactly what comes up). Just haven't found any in mp3 format that I want to listen to yet... Sorry for implying that the audio "just doesn't work" I have edited my original post. I do use and enjoy Overdrive for reading my library books, it's a great program.

You need the adobe id because epub is an adobe digital format if I am not mistaken. I guess adobe gets a cut of every file downloaded. On my public librarys site they had the audio books on the main page and you had to dig to find the ebooks.
it doesn't work. i activated it with my digital id but it doesn't open the ebook from library. need help here.
I assume you have a library account, you logged in on your library site and have downloaded the overdrive for android 2.0 apk? When you download a book, it saves it to you "overdrive" library on your device. You then open overdrive apk to select from your "library" of books and launch the reading of the book from there. Give me a step by step on how you are running it and I may be able to get some tech help from Overdrive staff. I have access to their tech support sometimes through a friend.
ok, here is what i did.
1. on my G tablet. i start overdrive.
2. tap on setting button(under the home button on the side), tap on get books.
3. choose the library (county of los angeles public library)
4. sign in with my library card number.
5. search the book (everybody's guide to small claims court).
6. add the book to my cart.
7. check out and start download.
8. a message show up says: OverDrive Media Console
This version of OverDrive Media Console does not support PDF eBook titles.
I have a question. I have registered with Adobe and have been authorized in the overdrive software settings but when I go to my library account in the ebooks that I have checked out via the libraries ebook website and try to download I get a blank white page that says error not authorized etc. Thanks for your help. I have been able to download from the free book libraries etc so I figure something is not talking between apps..ie the library/overdrive/adobe??
Update:
Contacted overdrive by email and they said to try a different browser as the stock browser that comes with the gtab out of the box does not play well with their app. Downloaded the dolphin browser and everything ran smoothly.
I haven't tried this ony my Gtab yet, but did attempt to experience it on my PC. I would have thought that my library (Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh) would have been a little further than it appears that they are. I was able to find books, but it's a very paltry selection. For instance, they report having 61 books in their history section. I clicked on the list only to find that all but 11 books were unaivalable. One of the largest public library systems in the country, with a storied history only has 11 history books available to borrow?
When I was at the library and saw the ad for this service, I talked to the librarian about it. I mentioned that this would be nice, because being in electronic format, that they SHOULD have unlimitted resources. I mean, logically, I am not renting a physical book, but an electronic version of a book. She mentioned thay they actually only have limited licensing per copy. You don't have to worry about overdue fees, because the system automatically expires your rental after 30 days. SO, the 50 history books that were "signed out," will be available 30 days after their original rental date. And don't forget that you can reserve them for when they are available. That means that I might not be able to actually access the "book" that I want to read for maybe 3 months?
if you think that this might be a good resource for children, think again. At our library, anyway, they don't even have a children's section online.
I understand that they are still in the beginning stages of this program, but really, Amazon Kindle store has a ton of "classics" for free, that I can't even get electronically from my public library.
The library even advertised a "class" that you can take ot learn how ot use this new, wonderful system. All I could picture after my experience was a teacher attempting to demonstrate how to sign out a book, only to find tha there aren't any available to rent. She'll keep clicking, and clicking on lists trying ot find a book that she can use for her demonstration...great way to introcude people to the system, huh?

If that is true, tell him we need some wma DRM support. Audio Books is useless on android w/overdrive because 95% of them will not work because the lack of wma drm support.
But good thing I can put mp3s in a podcast folder for bookmark support on stock music player!

To be a bit pedantic: epub is not an adobe format. It's open.
However, DRM can be laid on top of it, and this looks like adobe drm, so you need an adobe id.

gtabcomb 3.3 bl 1.2
I set it up on my wife's Nook Color and it worked great. I also set it up for my gTab without luck. I could download book but the Nook Software won't open it. I had to download a different epub app - though it's probably a Nook software issue and not Overdrive.
I recently got this working on my gtab running TNT Lite 4.4
I can read the books either in Overdrive Media Console (OMC) or Aldiko Free. I prefer Aldiko as it has 2 page support in landscape mode.
The download using the stock browser fails, I had to use Opera Mini (other browsers may work too). The download from the library page downloads a .acsm file.
The reader (OMC or Aldiko) then reads the .acsm file and downloads the epub.
The Overdrive Media Console downloaded epub cannot be read with Aldiko, even though Aldiko has the Adobe DRM support. The epub has to be downloaded by the app to be used for reading.
To read using Aldiko..
Enable/Sign in Adobe DRM on Aldiko. (simple registration if you dont have an account).
From the library overdrive page download the book using Opera Mini, and save it (instead of opening OMC). This will save the .acsm file in your downloads dir. Use iFileManager or AstroFileManager to open the file, and it will give you an option for Aldiko. Choosing this will download the book and put it on your Aldiko shelf. For some reason you cannot open the .acsm file from Aldiko itself, so you have to go through a file manager. Also ES file explorer does not seem to know how to open the .acsm file.

[Q] OverDrive App for Android?

I want to "borrow" ePub books from the local library, but I really don't like the idea of installing dedicated DRM software on a PC and managing a local "library" of ebooks and THEN doing file transfers every time I want to load a title on the Nook.
It does seem as if an OverDrive app for Android was released
http://overdriveblogs.com/library/2...ps-for-iphone-and-android-now-support-ebooks/
"Now your customers will be able to download both EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks directly to their iPhone, iPod touch, or Android phone/tablet. New users can search for “OverDrive Media Console” in the Apple App Store and Android Market, while current users will be alerted to update the existing OverDrive app on their devices."
Is this working for anyone on the NC? Does it avoid entirely the need for PC involvement, and let you download library books directly to the Nook?
Any downsides, fallout from the DRM, or other issues to consider?
yes, it works! Obviously, you must be rooted. If you stay on the stock rom, it worked best for me if I kept the stock browser as "default", otherwise when you attempted to download a book, a different browser like dolphin would get confused and just display gibberish.
Overdrive works great on my nook. I use it all the time. It totallly eliminates the need for anything on your PC. The only thing I have seen is that it can be easier to search on the PC, though when I do that I just check out the books and download them on my nook.
Oh I issue you may have is that you will need to disable the time settings from provider. If you do not you will not be able to turn on the adobe dem feature. Enjoy, feel free to PM me if run into problems.

Sorry that should have read Orbot (my spell checker changed it). Its basically an app that allows you to connect to a proxy. In order to use it download it run it go into settings and change the last exit node and enter:
{us}
This tricks the real player install into thinking you're in the US and should allow you to get it working. But to be honest as soon as I discovered Avia I gave up on real player. Real player at the time was only allowing you to cast stuff for a limited period of time, not sure if this is still the case? Oh and I think Orbot is pretty useless unless your rooted.

I suppose it is not as convenient, but you can always download the content from your pc to cast it directly from your phone with Plex. But it is a different solution, i have all of my content stored on my pc, so i use my phone only as a remote. Hope Avia adds the function to play subtitles.
