[Q] SetCPU.. anyone working on it? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

From what I read, it seems SetCPU doesn't work as it should on SGS. It looks like an essential app (at least for me), so I was just wondering if anyone is working on a fix for it?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743782

just for clarification: it does work like it should but you need a kernel which supports (over)clocking (the stock kernel doesn't) like the one mentioned above. i guess you could underclock it with the stock kernel tho'...

[Q] Arabic language support in Galaxy Tab

Hi
I have T-Mobile Galaxy Tab. Is there any way to make it support Arabic language?
THANX....
Yes just flash the middle eastern rom. either the jpjm4 or the jpjm5.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I'm also looking for Arabic support. Mine is Galaxy Tab with stock rom
PDA : P1000ZHJK1
PHONE : P1000ZHJJ1
CSC : P1000ZZHJJ3
Is it ok if I flash an older ROM like P1000OJPJJ1 ? I heard that the newer rom has protected bootloader.
Thanks.
But then you can use the chainfire program to remove the bootloader files.
Use this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933028&highlight=jpjm4
It’s fast and has no bootloader issues. The jpjm5 doesn't seem to have anything better really. Like you I am cautious about upgrading. I bought my tab in November and I used to change my rom like every dew days to try different things but since I installed the jpjm4 from @galaxer, I didn't change it because it’s super fast and everything works perfectly in it. Also have great Arabic fonts. I also flashed this kernel with it:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924654
It works great and extends my battery life to at least 2 days, but this is optional you don't need to do this.
Another option you have is to flash the beta CM7 gingerbread (Android 2.3), it supports Arabic, but it has tons of issues because its beta. I don't recommend it to be your main working rom, you can flash it to play with and check it out.
I hope this helps
That is a freakin' awesome post!
Thank you very much I will try to flash the JPJM4 today.

I am on the same ROM AND Kernel the only thing i dont like about this ROM (And it is not an issue, really!) but i just dont like the few white lines that flashes when you boot your TAB. And regarding the kernel it doesn't enhance your battery performance unless you under-clock your CPU and you dont need that kernel just to do that, you can always get SetCPU and underclock. This kernel is for over clocking to 1.4Ghz and it does eat-up your battery EVEN though using SetCPU i have set the maximum to 1.4Ghz and minimum to 600Mhz
Just to let you know
Thanks every body
I install the rom mention above but i got two problmes
1- no market app in it. "easy i will find one"
2- i cant receive file through Bluetooth ??!! " I want solution for it if any one can?"
Yesterday i found Orange Rom which support Arabic but i couldn't change the arabic font ?!?!
My bluetooth and market arw working fine anare you sure you flashed everything correctly?
Regarding these lines in the begenning, I saw them in many other kernels before, they used to bather me too, but I dont care anymore . It lasts for like half a second and goes away. Also, this kernel allows you to change the battery voltage which is not an option with any kernel.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
After you flash the middle eastern rom flash the overcome kernal (2.01) and the ugly lines will go away and you will have your language.
Thanks Rangercabtain I wiped to factory rest then I flash overcome kernal (2.01)
now every thing OK
THANX every body

tun.ko for 4.1.57

Attached tun.ko for 4.1.57. Works for me with VPNC. I put it in /system/lib and the VPNC Widget can load it.
awesome!!!! i was waiting for this to be able to connect to my cisco vpn!
great post!!!
Note: network connection tracking does not work
This means that after you connect to VPNC, disconnect from VPNC, turn wifi off, and then turn wifi back on, your connection will be hosed. As a workaround, you can run the VPNC widget settings pane and retoggle wifi. This resets the network state.
thx for this tread.good job
Thanks for shared! this file working well on 1.83 too
It's working perfectly on the Brazillian version of Atrix from Claro carrier.
I really wanted the possibility of compiling other modules for my Atrix stock kernel.
I really wanted to use some volume encryption functionality... As such a tool does not exist natively for Android, I`m thinking about using some kernel functinoality such as Loop-AES, LUKS, DM-Crypt or even some userspace FS for encryption (FUSE).
So, could anyone point me where i can find the source code for the Atrix kernel to try to compile those modules for it? I really think that this could be a great thing. One of the very fews things that i miss on Full Linux.
Thanls in advance.

Victor, are you using the stock kernel with this or did you need to recompile it?
I'm very sorry for the looooooooooooooooong delay in the answer.
And yes i was using on the stock kernel (Claro Brazil Android 2.2). Now i'm trying to use OpenVPN on the latest 2.3.6 official rom and it's not working anymore...
I'm thinking in some workround... any ideas?
Cheers.

The tun.ko module doesn't work, I was going to compile one for 2.3.4 (at least the stock kernel) but it seems my desktop killed itself, and I'm not going to install linux on my laptop (it seems to suck with booting from CD, and USB doesn't work... no idea why, but it works fine with Windows Discs)
Might consider using Faux's kernel, it has TUN/TAP (I've never tested though)

[Q] Cardock detection on CM7?

Hi,
short question: Does the Cardock detection for P990 work on a CM7-Rom? I'd like to get myself a supported dock, but i wanna know before I spend any money.
Thanks,
Tobi.
Yes it does.
Hey,
it's me again..
first of all thank you for your answer. It really DID work with CM7.
Now I'm back to stock (GB, V20L or whatever it's called) and there it doesn't work anymore. That's a pity, because unlike with every single custom rom i tried i didn't have any crashes yet.
Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone tell me how to fix it? Or can someone recommend a stable custom rom which has this thing working?
Thank you,
Tobi.

[Q] Support for Bluetooth Keyboard - HID - Compatible Kernels

Hi,
I have a bluetooth keyboard - IGO Stowaway XTBT01, and have successfully used this with CM7 and some older Samsung Stock roms in the past. I was hoping to use this on ICS but have not yet found an ICS combination of ROM and Kernel which work.
None of the recommended apps from market worked for me even though the keyboard pairs and sometimes (but most of the time doesn't say) 'connect to HID device'. But even with this, the keyboard doesn't work.
After flashing multiple kernels on top of JW1/JVZ and others to test this, I found that CF ROOT always works perfectly (maybe due to the fact that this is close to stock kernel?) and all of the other kernels do not work for me that I've tried (eg., Semaphore, Speedmod and others). I did notice that for kernels like Semaphore there are many options one can choose in the tweaks but I'm not sure if this willl improve the compatibility (eg., CIFS, TUN support and others--I don't know what these mean).
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the kernels such as Semaphore or Speedmod, etc. to work with this Bluetooth HID device? Are there settings to change you're aware of? I do miss the benefits of kernels like semaphore (speed+batt life+ color+sound) offer but am not sure if it's possible to get them working with this. Any thoughts appreciated!
Cheers,
CM10.1/Stock works
I know it's been a while and JB is out now, but wanted to leave a stick in the sand for future users. Here's my experience with JB:
CM10.1 nightlies (the recent 4.2.2-based ones) seem to work fine for me with the stock kernel. Switching in other kernels (tried Semaphore and Devil) seems to break the HID in the manner you described (pairs correctly, but no connection thereafter). I'm sticking with CM10.1 for the moment but investigating workarounds.
Update
Checked the logcat after one of these pairing failures on Semaphore, found this error:"Failed to open uhid, err:No such file or directory". Looking into this...

Screen displaying wrong things

Hello, I got a serious problem with my Galaxy S..
something must be wrong here, when I'm on ICS, photos are displayed like they had a very poor quality or something like that..
I'm running SlimICS and tried devil kernel with and without Voodoo color, this didn't change anything.. even when I changed the VC values..
When I start my phone, at the point of boot up when the devil kernel boot screen appears, it first appears usual and within a second changes to some strange view, like you can see on the photos...
http://db.tt/qIhJejyu
these are pictures of the devil kernel boot screen, the other photos are pictures viewed on the phone. I hope you can help me
when using other kernels/roms(ics) the same thing appears so it's not kernel related
am I maybe posting in the wrong section?
can nobody help me?
Looks like a VC issue, have you tried some stock/custom GB roms?

GB is fine, but I want to have ICS goodness
ICS rom without VC has the same problem... I also tried Devil without VC...
But on GB rom it is OK? ... maybe you should try clean install of Slim ICS, that means - flash stock 2.3.6 jw5 (link to gb flash kit is in ics333 thread in development section), root it, flash newest cm9 nightly, and then slim ics and kernel, first try semaphore, then devil3 ...
yes, it's perfectly fine in GB..
already did this 100 times
Maybe you are doing something wrong if not, it may be a hw problem, but I don't think so...
don't know whats wrong with the device, ...#
EDIT: Okay, I guess I got it, as this device is pretty new, I got it replaced due to a warranty case, I think it has a newer display or something, which isn't supported by the drivers used in all AOSP based roms (CM7 also doesn't work)... pretty bad
Interesting... don't you have a Galaxy SL? It is SGS but with normal TFT screen, not with SuperAMOLED...
No, I don't have this ****..

I'm facing the same problem. With GB kernel it looks fine, but with any ICS or JB kernel colors go really wrong
It's the first time I see it.
Any idea?
Seems to be a driver issue
I am having this issue too.
There is a video in youtube titled "CM9 on Samsung i9000 framebuffer bug ('blue color bug')" showing the same issue.
In the comments they say it's a problem with framebuffer (fb) driver.
I have been taking a look to Samsung's kernel fb for tl2796 lcd panel (which I suspect it's ours) and there is a feature called ACL which is missing in CyanogenMod's fb driver. This feature seems to perform some colour corrections.
I am willing to solve this issue but I have no knowledge about kernel drivers nor graphics drivers. I have been reading about it in different manuals and articles but I'm still lost.
I would thank any developer to point me to the right documents to learn how to solve this issue.
Maybe pawtip or stratosk could help.
