I never tried single 300 mb file from the browser but u can try installing torrent client. You can download torrent files no matter how big they are.
Another solution is download Astro file browser from market and go to settings. And select "allow browser to download any file" you should be good to go.
Let me know if it works

it's a good question, i'm sure it'll work just fine as long as you have enough free space
Thanks, but Astro "enable browser download" option didn't help me. It seems this tool only allows user to download any type of file(not size).

I have some strange issue with the stock browser.
When i try to download files, the download failed (from direct download sites like multiupload or megaupload).
But it works with dolphin or firefox.
I tried with differents roms and i have the same issue.
Anybody can help?
Simple.........use dolphin or firefox!
GTi9000 insanity cm012/glitch
I prefer use the stock browser, firefox and dolphin are more heavy
Had the same problem today when I tried to download the latest CM7-nightly (download failes at 2% or 73%). The third time it works. I didn't touch the phone and let the notification bar pulled down. But don't ask me if this was the reason for the successful download...

Try Longpressing the link, then Select Open! Either that or try using the Browser selection in the XDA.apk
(If your Not)?

It does not work for me when I try downloading from it from the phone browser.
You can hit "request desktop site" in the ics browser and the site loads perfectly. If you are on gingerbread, get dolphin browser where you can change the UAC to Desktop.
Hope this helps.

First note that I am on official 4.0.4 USA rom (USA model) that is stock but rooted.
Downloads from any browser won't work (chrome/stock/firefox) but I can download off say Tapatalk or within apps. So long as the link isn't to a mirror (file sharing website) it seems that is has something to do with the "downloads" app. As if it won't accept downloading through that app. Anybody else have similar problema/found a solution.
Also if somebody doesn't mind posting the downloads app (for stock 4.0.4 p7310) and see if I can delete then install to see if that works.

I once had that prob on a froyo rom on other device. Maybe the file u r dwding isnt supported by the device. I think dolphin browser can handle this bug. It has an external dwd manager.

The files are there. It's just the Download app doesn't know that they are. Use a file explorer to look in /sdcard/Download

Thank you both for replying. After flashing a rom and still not being able to download stuff I done some cleaning up I my sdcard partion. I Found a "file" called downloads.txt. After deleting the file downloads can now happen. I believe the problem is caused but how Android manages downloads. As the was no directory for downloads it was trying to download items into /sdcard/downloads. As that directory was a file (not even sure how that one happened) and not a folder it would attempt then fail.
You should change. txt to the original file extension e.g. zip
