[Q] Desktop Visualizer Permissions [SOLVED] - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

I have some icons I want to use, and have decided to go through DVR.
Problem.
DVR tells me it does not have enough permissions to make the icons.
HTML:
Error message:
Permission Missing.
DVR detected that DVR does not have enough permission to create shortcut.
Do you want to save the permission information as a crash log file in order
to send to te developer next time?
By the way that is the real error message, not my bad English.
Can anyone help?

I had this same error message. I've yet to find anything about what the heck it means.

dude go to widgets first. it works through there

Go to the widgets is no so cool way, it looks so much better when you get this in @Andyt95's way.
Got the same error:
http://twitpic.com/3ktunu
Any ideas?? It was working on Eclair. I have this problem on CyanogenMod 6.1.1

oh btw I solved this a long time ago.
You can't do it through the app itself, you have to select the widget seen as the app does not have any reference to where you want the widget, and the stock roms do not allow the apps to make their own widgets automagically... With sense ROMs the widget goes in the default space if you don't select a specific spot, so it wil work.
You will have to use the widget selection within the launcher.

Open Home full feature 1.5 build

Hey guys,
Is anyone brave enough to test the full feature 1.5 build of Open Home Full? We know we can always find some brave ones here
It requires that you are running android 1.5 on your phone (aka Cupcake). This build has full supports of 1.5 widgets and also a good amount of stability and performance improvements.
We had not done a lot of testing on this build; also this build will expire in a month (5/30). If you want to test the latest and greatest, feel free to install and try this build.
*Remember safe mode is hold menu button when powering on*, if you see anything wrong, just enter safe mode and then uninstall it.
Do NOT install unless you are running android 1.5
Download the apk at
http://groups.google.com/group/openhome/files
I assume since I'm running the dudes build and it supports widgets it may work. I can always remove if necessary . This doesnt remove open home right? just a different version?
EDIT: it replaces the existing open home
Hmm, I was impressed with the demo of OpenHome when I downloaded it a couple days ago. I'll take a look.
downloading it now. I have just flashed the holiday cupcake build so I assume it'll work with this. I'll let you know.
So far so good. I am glad to have openhome back again in 1.5
I have added all widgets, and they all work as expected. Are some of these the 1.5 "stock" widgets? I assume so because i see 2 music widgets listed, one looks like your own and the other a stock one.
I'll let you know how it goes after some proper usage. great work so far though. thankyou.
oh, p.s .. Will this be a free upgrade for those who had previosly purchased open home full ?
Works well enough. I like it.
Normally use full edition but will keep this until it is updated.
Suggestion: How about that calendar widget from Haykuro's build so those with dude's builds can use it?
Using it. Works well so far. I'm an OH Full user too, will I have any problems going back to the market app when it gets updated/released?
Ps. Is there any way to add support for Jeff Sharky's weather widgets? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509729
Weather widgets ok here. Problem with battery percentage widget though

Hey guys i like the changes the menus are a little more intuitive now! Shame it doesn't seem to maintain your icons from older version, but weirdly kept my fonts theme etc - not sure if that qualigfies as a bug or not really
One problem i have found though is it seems to scrap folder icons the second you open bettercut again, not a huge problem but ....
BUGS!
I have almost 200 apps to SD so it's convenient to have my favorite "few" on the desktop. After I installed the new apk file... everything was GONE! Huge inconvenience! Then when I pull up the app menu I can watch them appear one after another like the app is doing a search for the installed apps. I also tried Picture Frame. It seems like it pulls up the Camera app, then the gallery. I selected my picture. Cropped it. Saved it. Then it went back to "select picture" again. Strange. Also... AnyCut Open Home Edition doesn't work. Definite bugs.
Other then that I love it. Thanks! Is this going to be in an update and when will it be available in Market? I purchased the full version months ago.

I don't think it has anything to do with bettercut because I don't have it installed and it still goes back to the default folder icons randomly, sometimes it comes back sometimes it doesn't.

Yea that kind of pissed me off when I realized it took all my stuff off the screen and the dock. It works fine besides these few issues though.

Hey quick question, is there any way to add a 3d effect on swipe? Like when you swipe to left or right screen, screen shrinks and rotates as a 3d cube. That will be awesome dude, you can name the app something different and charge for it again because I know damn well people will pay for it. I definitely will.

The reguar widget works for me, but not his. It isn't even displayed as an option.
Trying it out on my new Magic
But it's not 'open' in any sense...
Really dissapointed in losing all of my icons on all 7 screens. Glad that "real" widget support was actually added in. Almost went back to dxTop because of this. Please make the full version available on the market as an upgrade to the old full version. It would be nice to make it detect the old settigns and import them in.

Opps. You have to wipe now.
Just kidding. You deal with it the same way as if you would set the defaults as any other app. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Home>Clear defaults.
Been using this app for a few days now.I havent ran into any problems with it pretty smooth.Only down side was losing my icons. But no biggie.

Extract home background that was set previously, after original has been deleted

I've got a home background I set about a gazillion years ago, back when I first installed Cyanogen 4.0.1 (yes, *that* old).
I want to upgrade now, and I would like to take my nice background with me, but turns out during one of my more enthusiastic SD card cleanup sessions, I deleted the original JPG.
Does anyone know a way I can extract it from the launcher database (or wherever it gets stashed in Android-land when you set a JPG as your background)?
this might not be helpful, but could you not jus put the .jpg back on ur phone?

use astro and find the .jpg on your phone. or if you actually pushed it into launcher, just adb pull launcher.apk and then sift through that to find it.
He mentioned that he deleted the jpg off the sdcard long ago, means its not on the phone. I think launcher's db file may contain it, you can back that up and push it on the newer builds. I know it works for restoring the shortcut locations.
BUT in all seriousness, you can upgrade and not wipe and I'm sure the background may stay with you. Cyanogen roms usually keep all the settings as long as you don't wipe.

thats true, but if he deleted the file from his sd, he wouldnt be able to still use the jpg as his background. so im thinking like you do, it must be in the launcher db.

It'd show up, as current background, but there would be no way to set it again if he changed it without the original.
Sorry in advance to revive this thread but I just realized if you used the app from market called 'Wallpaper Set & Save" it has an option to save the current wallpaper, open it up and select the second option to get your wallpaper back.. This is exactly the solution to your issue.

I often use it when I'm too lazy to pull wallpapers from launcher.apk so I just set them and save them...

I've had this app save me dozens of times everytime i want to save a wallpaper from a specific update or theme. I think what loccy wants though is the wallpapers provided in the launcher.apk.
Wallpaper Set n Save will save your current wallpaper

I'm always looking for spoon-fed ways to do things....
I was wondering where they are, too. I keep getting the Cyanogen default as default after having flashed and reloaded the Advanced Launcher. I've put some big ones in there, and if those stay, I'm hogging up a lot of space.
Thanks all for the tips!

Hero FlipClock no weather?

K first off, not sure if this goes here or in Android Development where the Hero ROM's are..
Does anyone know why my FlipClock on any Hero ROM i run not show weather, I've only successfully managed to show weather on it in one ROM but I wasnt able to keep that one.
If so, how do I fix it?
It usually just takes a few minutes to update. Or it could be a rom specific issue, which you never said what rom you used to it's anybody's guess.
yeah sorry=\
I ran it on JacHeroSki, MoDaCo 1.5.1, and Drizzy 1.5.5, none of which work.
When I ran Drizzy's Hero Blur ROM, it WORKED! Much to my surprise.. But I couldnt keep the ROM cause of the SMS bug=\ Waiting until he releases a stable version of it so I can reflash it, but I'd still love to know how to get it working.
Normally when the flip clock is going toload the weather it states the city name then loads, my clock doesnt even do that.
Could it be an issue with your data connection? Are you running 3G?
all you have to do is open the weather app before you put the flip clock widget, if it doesn load withing 3-5 min, remove it and add it again, that should do it
try loading the weather apk. before putting the widget on your screen
K, thanks guys ill give it a try
I actually am having this issue on a G1 I recently installed Maxisma's 1.6.1. When I click the weather widget it tells me "activity is not ready to execute" Strange though as I have the same build installed on my MyTouch and it works just fine. All others with G1's aren't reporting this issue either.
I'm going to have to try loading the weather apk first to see if I can get it to update through there.
Try This
Click on where the weather should be
Once in the weather app, go to settings
Change to farenheight and exit out
Change back to celcius and exit fully out
Remove widget
add it back
Guaranteed to get you your weather, if not, you have another problem

[Request] Hide Applications

Hey all,
one thing i am really missing, is the ability to have an app (maybe spare parts) or whatever, that allows me to hide apps from the app drawer (and only there).
Like when i download a free app, and have another extra app, that functions as license key, i want to have the opportunity to hide it from the app drawer, so that i dont see it anymore....
hope i was able to describe what i mean
=)

One way is to decompile and edit the manifest to not show the launcher icon. Not the best solution though.
What would be REALLY cool is a root app that can change the properties for installed apps.

Exaxtly what i meant...an app, with that you can set every other app to vissible or not!
Actually... there's been a recent message about this somewhere, some launcher dev, perhaps it was even cyanogen refering to his older (launcher2) launcher before ADW came along... might have been somewhere else.
Yes, the problem with a root app, which I looked into developing ages ago actually (to do exactly this, and only this really) still can't remove the required entries from androidmanifest.xml without stuffing up the signature. The app then won't get approved by android at all. This particular xml file is sensitive because it contains permission information. This is where I ran out of ideas for a standalone app.
However, the correct way to do it is via a launcher that reads what it needs to display from a different database, which is entirely feasible and not even difficult really. This would give additional benefits like the easier and more elegant ability to support custom launcher icons, adding custom shortcuts to the launcher, reordering the launcher...
The rate LauncherPro and ADW are going one of them will have it sooner rather than later.
dxtop home actually has the ability to do this...but I love ADW too much to go back
Yea....i dont want to leave my launchers as well,
exactly that is the reason for me, to ask for an extra app that does the job.

As I said, it can't be done in a different app, it must be done in the launcher.
There are separate apps out there that hide things from the launcher but they do completely disable the app whilst they're doing it.
Are you able to extend AWD for that option?

Fancy widget?

Anybody have the apk for fancy widget?
Yes, I do. I'm not at home right now, and I'm not sure when I will be home. I'm on a short vacation and the apk file is on my desktop computer at home. I found it on the internet if you want to look for it, or you can wait until I get back home (which will be Monday morning--I think).
I tried searching for it on google, but I think all of sites were forced to take it down due to HTC's C&D.
I love the look of Fancy Widget, but I'm constantly having a problem with the time not updating. The task is not being killed since it's on my task killer's ignore list. It seems to happen at random times...sometimes while the phone is in standby, other times while in use. Is there a solution for this?

It's funny you say that because BW has always worked perfectly for me, and for that reason I switched back to it. That's fine with me because I just saw a skin I really like, and I e-mailed the dev to see if he could modify it slightly. He cooperated and now BW looks very very close to the Sense look (other than the weather icon being on the right rather than centered).
This is the best HTC Sense-like clock. It looks even better than Weather Widget with h7c skin, but has this strange update issue, when I have to wait sometimes for clock to update.
BTW It shows us how Market is NOT open and without control . It's better than AppStore and we can always use *.apk, but it's sad that if some app isn't good for hTC for example, they simply delete it.
It wasn't deleted, HTC asked the developer to take it down I beleive. It was taken down by their choice from what I read, and probably a good idea. It was so similar to the HTC one, I'm sure they have rights on it

The Market never claimed to be open or without control, its just a heck of a lot less demanding/strict than the app store... The underlying code for Android is open but anything that manufacturers or devs add to the code itself (IE: Sense UI, Motoblur etc...) along with the apps on the market, are proprietary and therefore NOT open (unless otherwise stated).
no weather info is displayed on v1.2.4

Should say in manifest (request privileges) if it can make phone calls -- which this app only asks for GPS & Internet access.
