[Q] Alarm Notifications - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using the built-in calendar to keep track of my appointments and set alarm notifications. Currently, when a notification happens, it makes a quick sound and then puts a notice in the pull down bar. Is there a way to make the notification persistent until I acknowledge it? I would like it to sound off every minute or two until it gets my attention. If it can't be done with the built-in calendar, is there a good app that will do this?

Don't think there's a way with the stock calendar. Calendar snooze app is what I use. You get two notifications initially but the app lets you choose your sound and it will persist.

[Q] Cognition 3.04 - app drawer empty?

I've been running Cognition 3.04 for a couple of weeks (it's my first ROM), and I'm loving it. I've run across two minor issues that I haven't been able to solve just by messing with settings myself or searching the forums:
1. Over the past couple of days, I will periodically find that my app drawer is completely empty. Anything I update from that point onward shows up in the drawer, but nothing else will until I reboot the phone.
2. I can't seem to change my SMS notification tone. I use Handcent, and despite changing the ringtone within Handcent, the stock messaging app ringtone, and the default notification ringtone under Settings->Sound->Notification ringtone, nothing seems to change what I hear when a new message arrives. The sound that plays is 'Postbox', which I don't have set as a sound anywhere that I can find.
I've tried to search for others with similar issues & couldn't find anything that helped, so hopefully I'm not repeating common questions.
Thanks for any help!
Sounds like a bad flash. Try reflashinv.

Had that happen before. re flash. I was restoring apps and system data among other things wrong. It's a process and don't worry the answers are in the forums

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Will give reflashing a shot

Besides it's a captivate. Best thing since sliced bread. Spread a little cognition on it. Sprinkle some firebird and top it with voodoo and voila!

for the SMS sound try changing the notification sound from the sms settings.
go into your text msg box then goto press the settings button then goto those settings from there at the bottom you'll see notifications.
The notifications in the actual sound settings from the drawer are for emails and such. Texts have their own "notifications" setting.

Good grief I'm an idiot. I've been changing the sent Notification sound this whole time in Handcent. My eyes just slid right to 'Notification sound' & didn't notice this was in the 'Sent message . . .' section. Well, it's just down to the app drawer now. Backing up with TiBu & charging up the battery to prepare for the reflash in a little while.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Anyone know how to disable these things..

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been posted, i know double posts are silly and a waste of time, but the search function isn't working right now and my phone is driving me nuts haha
okay, i just got this captivate, i came from an HTC Desire to this phone, and when i got a message on my desire, it just made the sound and the indicator light came on. now i know the captivate doesn't have an indicator LED, but is there a way to stop this screen from turning on everytime. i use the no lock app and when it turns on in my pocket i start swyping.. hahah
oh, and this battery notifcation thing where it plays my notification sound super loud at 3 in the morning beside my head while i sleep.. can i turn that stupid option off too??
thanks in advance!
For the SMS notifications, I would try installing the app called ""SMS Pop Up".
You can control much more options for SMS notifications that way. But after you download it, make sure you disable the normal SMS notifications under:
SMS app> menu button>settings> notifacation
This is so the phone won't send you two notifications on two different apps. (The SMS Pop Up app isn't really an SMS app itself, but you get what I mean).
As for the battery notification, I would have no idea... Most of the custom roms I've tried have battery full notifications turned off as a default (cos it's pointless and stupid).
Yeah i noticed a lot of roms have it disabled, if your just rooted and dont' do roms does any one know what you do to disable it?
Is it editing a database or something?
For the battery notification, you can put your phone on silent out just turn notification volume all the way down otherwise I don't know, it isn't present in the froyo update
Your welcome
Now you say/press thanks

For SMS notifications I would use NoLED, not sms pop up. For not hearing the full battery notification I would use sound manager to turn off notification sound at the time you desire
Thanks peeps

Alarm clock icon in notification bar.

There is a box with a check in it that shows up between the battery icon and time in the notification bar when you have an alarm set. Does anyone know how to hide the icon? I have alarms set for everyday of the week so it is ALWAYS there and I would prefer it not be.

Stock alarm clock?
I switched to alarm clock extreme, you can definitely disable the notification for it, only shows up if you happen to have an alarm snoozed.
I too would love to disable this, but it doesn't look there are any options in the stock ROM to get rid of it. I don't mind so much that it wants to have an icon up there, but the fact that the icon looks NOTHING like an alarm clock makes me want to get rid of it!
it's not a check it's clock hands
HA! Okay, I see it now, but still, the default google alarm app has a much more obvious icon than this thing...

I know this is an ancient thread, but with the latest version (even in the paid version from amazon.com's free app of the day ) it's not obvious how to disable it from always being in the notifications list at the very top priority mad: .
Go to Settings => General Settings => Show Notifications, then uncheck all listed, alarm, timer, stopwatch.
It's confusing because you're worried you wont get the alarm POPUP, but it's just the NOTIFICATION icon is gone. They should probably disable it in the default settings.

Is there a way to turn off alerts/alarms coming from the S planner?

Is there a way to turn off alerts/alarms coming from the S planner?
I'm planning on using Calengoo.
Won't the alerts double? One coming from S-planner and the other coming from Calengoo?
I cannot turn of the calendars in S planner as Calengoo seems to need it to be able to get calendar data from my google account (I don't want to give Calengoo my login details, thus it is syncing from my Android device which is syncing to my Google Account)
Thanks for what enlightenment you guys can give.
I, too, would love some advice on this issue. Just using Outlook and the S Calendar. What I would like to do is to turn off the spoken notifications but still receive an event notification in the notification bar. And I still want the phone to ring.
What about "Set alarms and notifications" option in s planner options accessible after pressing menu key? I can set "Alarm", "Notification", "Disabled". There is another menu entry for vibration...
Thanks. But the problem with choosing to disable it is that I no longer receive any notification. I would like a notice in the notification bar - I just don't want my notification bar speaking. I tried changing the notification sound volume to zero. That worked to silence notifications about texts (but I still get the vibrate). But my calender still speaks.
Well, I found a fix for my problem, but it won't help the OP. Turns out the phone was in driving mode and that overrode application settings.

Notification volume off but Facebook still making sound

I have installed an xposed module to unlink ring volume and notification volume.
It seems to work but Facebook is giving me headaches: at night I do not want to be woken up by messages etc. but I want the phone to ring for emergencies, so I put to zero the notification volume and to max the ring volume, and in making some tests I realised that for whatsapp/sms/email the notifications are indeed silent but Facebook still makes sound.
Anyone knows why?
Did you uncheck notifications in fb messenger option?

no luck...
that is annoying and very very strange...
notification volume is off, all notifications (whatsapp, sms, email, gmail) are silent, with the exception of facebook...
At nigjr I need the phone to ring and connected to internet, but I do not want notifications to ring, still I want them to arrive... this way I wake up for each facebook notification
not sure if the problem is android or facebook
could someone try on his phone?
been googling... it seems facebook is using the RINGER voljme and not the NOTIFICATION volume...
wtf!
