Decided to use rom manager to try unhelpfuls new kernel this morning but wow is my phone 'borked up' after that. i had already backed up everthing with rom manager and titanium and my understanding was i could restore using nandroid and titanium.
Unfortunatly i dont think its clearing out because even though everything looks stock on boot it still has issues with media scanner and then eventually just locks up after about 30 seconds after completly loading. i suppose i could always just start all over again but its kinda a pita
Am i doing this right or is there something im missing again lol

I received my phone back a few days ago and I instantly flashed Cyan 5.0.6 test 3.
However I have a really annoying issue where my Market isn't quite 'correct'.
It seems to be missing the 'top paid' tab.
It also takes an age to load the info for any app I click on and the status stays at 'installing' even though it is installed and it will only refresh when I reboot.
I have tried to restore the backed up propriety apps, nandroid backup and restore, flashed a stock rom, flashed cyan 5.0.1
But NOTHING works.
I know the slow market is related to the missing tab, it's like half of the market app hasn't loaded properly.
I had this issue before my phone went off for repair and one day it fixed (I don't know how) but as soon as it did, it performed as it should and it took seconds to load app data and install, it also stated the app was installed.
I suppose what I'm looking for is HOW can I completely reload the Market from scratch?
Thanks guys.
J
Wow that is so weird... I assume you do wipe/cache/dalvik before flashing a ROM right? Have you tried cyan 5.0.6 yet? If not, give it a try, do the wipe before flash of course, and hope that works... Also, do you have a backup app? like titanium back up or back up pro? Did you set it to auto restore perhaps? Probably just a bad market back up? Thats all I can think about... If it doesnt work, then its beyond me brother

Hi Man,
I know it's really bugging me.
I've tried everything including wiping the Dalvik and normal cache.
I think I might try Enomer's ROM to see if that solves it but I can only tether at the moment as we've moved house and I won't have BB back for 2 weeks.
I have Titanium pro installed as I have over 400 apps on my phone!
Hey bro,
Apparently there have been a few reports about the same issue with the market, probably has something to do with the market update. Anyway, try uninstalling the market via titanium if you can that is. And reinstall. Nandroid before doing it.

it was working fine with both restoring and backing up my roms before (jm5), but once I've flashed over to jg8 it's stopped working.
one thing that's different is that I applied RyanZA's lag fix that makes use of ext2.
to be honest I don't even think that's the cause but I'm just putting putting it there for information's sake.
any help is appreciated, thanks.
had this on my phone right today as well...was trying to do a backup after a flash -
it's not that it stopped but it just really takes an awful long wait to finish that part of it
really? I guess I'm not a man of patience but the first backup went by faster! I shall give it another try when I'm not using the phone, thanks.
Yeah,i did this last night. Was worried it wasn't going to complete however just left it to it a bit and it does get through it.

Yeah my EXT2 doesn't play nice with backup programs. Someone could make a new backup program that supports it, I guess, but that's probably not going to happen. It should be just temporary until either samsung gives us a better update, or someone cooks up a custom rom that won't need it.
well then, I'd rather have no lag than anything! damned samsung...
I can confirm this
I have a Bell Vibrant. I first applied the OCLF. Pressed Volume up, plus center button, plus power and booted into recovery.
Applied update.
Rebooted.
Went back into OCLF and played with all the other optimizations.
Installed Rom Manager.
Tried going straight to backup - rebooted into recovery and failed.
Installed nandroid recovery. Rebooted into nandroid recovery -> Great Success!
Clicked backup and everything seemed to be going well till it got to the file
linux.ex2
Then it seemed to be stuck for 3-5 minutes. I was reading this forum page when it got going again.
Great Success!
Thank you all!
For me, it stopped for about 5-7mins. It went again after I had a cigi.
So the other day i flashed the leaked version of froyo 2.2 to my captivate. Everything went fine and used it all day today. Well i wanted to recover my lost apps so i rooted it using the z4 root app. I tried to do a temp root first but the phone sat there for a while and didnt seem to be moving along with the process so i hit back and retried the permanent root option this time and just let it sit there. It got done with the rooting process and everything seemed to be fine. I opend titanium back up and tried to restore my previous back up from my rooted 2.1 phone. It wouldnt load the apps but i believe it loaded all the settings. It was saying they were 3rd party apps even though they came from the market. No big deal. I just lookked at the list and redownloaded the ones i wanted and restored the app settings individually. Got done with that and everything was working perfectly....until i shut the phone off and turned it back on. A messsage saying "android.phone stopped working...force close something or other" it would do that i hit close, the phone would vibrate a few times and it would pop back up. This made the phone unusable. But i decided id take the sim card out and turn it back on and everything is working fine. Im actually posting from the phone right now via wifi. Sorry to make this so long but i wanted to try and be as detailed as possible. Someone please help me out!

It sounds like you restored system settings from Titanium Backup. Don't do that. It will cause a whole gang of fc's (including the one you saw, android.phone has stopped unexpectedly). Only restore your apps and app data from titanium backup. When you restore system data from TiBu, you usually have to reflash the rom to stop things from fc'ing.

Thays what i was kind of assuming. So i just have to redo the same process i did to flash 2.2 in the first place right?

Well mostly the same, all except the part about restoring the wrong data. Just do missing apps this time.
I upgraded my wife's Captivate to KB1. Everything seems ok for the most part but it does the buzz ... buzz-buzz-buzz sequence that indicates a force close every time it boots. It happens before the lock screen comes up and there's no message box about it after I unlock the phone, so I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Is there a way to figure out what is FC'ing so that I can try to fix it?

That could be many things that start on boot. Phone, Framework, market, ext. Did you load any themes at all. Did you master clear before doing the update? Sense it still boots makes me thing it is an app and not the one of the frameworks. Did you install anything or restore any system data?
Could be an app as well. When I started flashing 2.2 roms certain applications just would not play nice
Happened to me too, even before I restored. I even factory cleared and tried it again and still had the same troubles. I'm on Cognition 4 (charging for 4.1) and don't have that trouble anymore. Go figure.
The only things I had done to her phone were root so that I could do a nandroid backup, and put a Voodoo kernel on it. Before the upgrade I undid the lagfix and did another nandroid backup.
The FC on boot happened the first time I started it after the upgrade, and has happened every time since then. In the meantime I have put Supercurio's KB1 voodoo kernel on it and rerooted. I also uninstalled the Eclair Car Dock and Desk Dock apps in case they were causing a conflict. I don't see anything else obvious that would cause the problem. I've never used TiBU on the phone.
I was hoping there was a way to get a log of the phone's activity so I could figure out what is happening before the lockscreen loads. Is there a way to do that?
Kill the power
Pull the battery. Let it sit. Install battery. Boot Up. Should fix 4 U
I'm getting the same this; during startup I get a buzz-pause-buzz-buzz just after the lockscreen appears. Otherwise all is fine.
I have no idea what is causing this. I HAVE tried
Kill the power
Pull the battery. Let it sit. Install battery. Boot Up. Should fix 4 U

. . . didn't think it would work and it didn't. lol
I wonder if it's caused by that screwed up QuickOffice file they included in KB1
Solution
I found the answer to both the "buzz-pause-buzz-buzz" and the QuickOffice icon being screwed up problems; I did a reset/data wipe.
I used Titanium Backup to backup all my apps and settings, saved all my contacts to my SIM, then did a reset/data wipe from CW Recovery.
Restoring everything wasn't too bad once I got TiBu running correctly again.
Hey, I was using Beast 7/1/13 and it worked great,
used pimp my rom, voodoo sound, semaphore manager, rom toolbox lite
after i installed the new beast rom my apps suddenly force closes... everyone one of them.
the first error i see is,
Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped.
I have no idea what to do!!!
wiped/formated everything and resroted the rom with the nandroid backup from before the update but everything still keeping to force close and that message is running everytime
EDIT:
googled my issue and someone said the fix is to wipe the contacts storage, i did and it worked... so if there is an admin here, you can close this thread!
That is a common failure when switching Roms. Sometimes you can destroy your filesystem with restoring the app data too. So flash again and this time restore apps without the appdata.
Before you reflash you can try to delete those app data. Everytime when i got this it has helped. I never busted my whole filesystem. Let me know if this works for you too.

First of all thanks.
How can i delete the app data before re-flashing/ re-flash without the app data?
And by the way, it's weird... I thought that when i upgrade from 2 builds of the same rom it should work fine... :S
I think i understood what your saying... your talking about clean flashing and then using titanium backup to get my apps back?
you're welcome.
i don't know the beast rom. I use Elites 4.2.1 Beta.. (btw did you tried elites rom? Do you know how it is compared to Beast?)
but my way to get the app info is long pressing the app on the app drawer and when it gets to the homescreen i move it to the app-info panel. That'S the easiest and fastest way.
Normal way would be settings --> apps ---> tap on the app you want
once there you hit "delete data" Sometimes a reboot is needed. Or try it 2 times. Or if the first didn't work do it again and then reboot.
This shouldn't happen when you just update your beast rom. But sometimes it does on the Elite roms too. Not often but it happened. The biggest screw up was when i changed from ELite to Cyanogen mod.
right i talk about clean flashing and Titanium Backup you just flashed the update rom without doing 3 wipes right?
#
if yes the best way would be to do a clean flash again. And than if you got problems with your backed up apps try what i have said. Are u using Titanium?
cheers

Don't know elite roms... you got i9000 right?
I was just upgrading builds so i didn't do a clean install... now i'm kinda mad about myself for not backing up my titanium as often as my titanium backup as often as i backup my nandroid... i think i'm gonna backup all info, do a clean install and restore everything without the data... hope it'll go out well... learning my lesson i guess
Edit: another thing that comes into mind is restoring my 27/12 titanium backup backup (XD) and then working my way up from there..
Edit 2: My whatsapp says that my internal storage is too low while i got 800mb free... :S and now after clearing the data in titanium backup and re-working it it fc's again.
Edit 3 and last: I ended up doing a clean install and learning that i should backup my titanium backup more often since i now have to restore from 27/12
