Volume control. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way that I could get to the media volume control faster than going to settings and then media volume. I sometimes have a program open and want my media volume to go up but all there is, is Ringer volume. Thanks

Funny how an app that can make this a bit easier came up in my recommended list today for some reason.

Profiles

Hey all. I have been searching for an app/widget that will create ringer profiles. For example, a low volume level with vibrate off at night, loud volume with vibrate on when outside, vibrate only in meetings, etc. All selectable/switchable via one (or two) button presses. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I use Quick Profiles, from the Market. It let you create different profiles and place shortcut icons for each of them.
A much more complete solution is Toggle Settings, but it is also much resources hungry.

Thanks, I will give those a try.

Trying ProfileManager for now. I remember on my Touch there was an app that, when selected from the home screen, would pop-up a list of fully customised profiles. Simple. The widgets in the market (most in the form of switches) all seem to lack the ability to select ring AND vibrate ... it's either one or the other.

Why not try Locale?
also try audiomanager. I know you can do it in the pro version, not sure about the free one though.
But i always hear good things about locale too.

Locale Beta was awesome, worked really well and hardly affected the phone in terms of performance or battery life.
Locale is now resource-hungry and not as full featured. The network location is really iffy (it wasn't in Beta), it costs ten quid, and it just seems slow and buggy. I'm quite annoyed I spent money on it, based on my impressions of Beta.
Does any of these apps allow to set auto-answer on and enable the loudspeaker? It would be great to create an in-car profile!

how to make sure all your apps are closed

How do you know when an app is completely closed since there's no task manager. Cause I've noticed that even if you hit the home key if you hit the back key afterwards it will still go to your open apps. Is there a key you can hold that will close down all applications.
WP7 doesn't multitask, so you will only have one app running at a time -- except, perhaps, if you're playing music via Zune.
When you hit back, what you're seeing is a recovery from something MS call 'tombstoning', which is saving the state of an app before shutting it down, and restoring the app back to where it was once you restart it.
If you run a game, you'll probably notice a delay after you hit 'back', while it reloads.
thanks for the info. I see what you mean.
How are you multitaskign Zune? If I leave zune in any way whetehr back, home or clickign on a text it shuts it down
Well atleast we don't have to worry about apps draining battery in the back ground.... Just trying to look at the bright side
So far the only things I'm disappointed is by the bad quality videos on YouTube, no multitask, and I can't use a regular mp3 song as a ringtone

If you also wanted to clear the tombstoning info, just press back until the app goes away.

Music should continue to play no matter how you quit Zune, even if you put the phone in standby. Then you can access the music via the toast window that appears when you hit vol-up/vol-down.

only if its an app that you've told it can run under the lockscreen, if it will impact the battery much it's supposed to ask, or be unable to run under the lockscreen

You can't, no. There was talk about being able to buy ringtones from the marketplace, but I don't think the users would accept that. I'd probably expect it to come with the update in January.
hopefully in january we will get most of the missing features we want

NOt sure that this will come in Jan. I think it's a legal thing to do with the way Zune Pass is licensed (which is only to play music - not use it as a ringtone)...
this is just from word of mouth - but seems to make sense....
I don't mind if it won't let me use Pass music as a ringtone, I'd like to put my own custom sound in there, so WP7 doesn't end up like iPhone where almost everyone has the same ringer, and when a phone goes off everyone reaches for their phone.
Even the iPhone allows for custom ringtones, you just have to load them through iTunes. I really hope Microsoft implements custom ringtones soon. I also hope that they, unlike the iPhone, allow for custom notification tones as well. On the iPhone you have to SSH in and replace the files manually.

[Q] Sound fix (?)

Hi.
Is there an app that addresses the sound issue with SGS?
wow, thats an epic op =))
Im afraid to ask - what issues?
Im going to take a stab and guess that you are asking about the sound in video recordings? If so, no.
Ha no no... I saw many posts about the poor sound quality the SGS has due to some decisions that samsung made. The hardware is somewhat crippled by software and the sound output with headphones, for example, is somewhat low-quality. These posts I mentioned were all about how to make the SGS sound great by altering some code.
I don't know where to find these posts again and i don't know where to find an app for that.
Cheers.
Im more curious if there is an app that makes people read the stickies and post in the right section

You make it sound like the SGS reproduces the same audio quality as a tape player. Is a very good sound quality, it only needs a good EQ and better headphones. The best one is the one from PowerAMP, search the Market. It has tone correction and 10 band EQ, with the right settings the output sound will be excelent, combined with Senheiser headphones you will never talk bad about the SGS sound again . Try it.
Cheers.
Not very helpful guys are we?
Here's the thread OP is looking for: [REF]Headphones sound quality fix and improvements for Galaxy S

Sorry guys, thought it had to do with android developmet.
If there's a moderator, please move this thread to the correct forum.
Once again, I apologize for the mistake.
Thanks for the help
You are right in your question; the sound quality in SGS is terrible and supercurio is preparing a fix for this in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806195
However the development has stopped from some time, I think he needs some more motivation
I hope he or someone else continues the project.
Regards.

If by a small chance that you are talking about the SamServMode app, well you can download it from the Market. I can't remember the servicemode code myself and uses this app to get into Service Mode and play around with the audio configurations. Sorry guys for keeping this thread alive.
You can also try the Mixget app available from the market. it will allow you to download update_mixget.zip and just change the name to update.zip, flash it thru 2e/3e recovery. then you should be able to play with the lib_alsa settings and also set profile for headset, default and boost.

I didn't understand how the mixget works + I have no idea what is alsa.
I've also read the post about this fix that you enter through the phoe codes, it resets every time I reboot the phone.
AFAIK, mixget uses the same principle on the codes that you saw, the one using ADB or a terminal emulator. mixget is easy to use, just download from market. when installed, go to the alsa tab, it'll tell you to download it. just push the button. once downloaded, rename the update_mixget.zip to update.zip. then go to recovery (Volume Up + Home Key + Power Button) then chosse apply update.zip using the volume rocker, press home key to flash the update.zip. Then once completed, open mixget and go to alsa tab, the ideal setting, AFAIR, is 62 on the headset. just play with the other settings to see what would fit your hearing.

[APP] ICS Enhanced Ringer Control

Hi all,
Does it bug anyone else that in Android 4.0 (ICS) the ability to unlink the Notification and Ringer volume has been removed? It annoys the heck out of me! At night time I want my notification volume muted, but my ringer volume turned up so I don't miss calls. It has bugged me so much since I switched to ICS that I decided to write an app to "work around" the issue.
UPDATE - ICS Enhanced Ringer Control is now live on the market - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brianhislop.icsringervolume
So, what does the app do? Well it basically ignores the system sound settings in regards to notification volume/vibration, and uses the settings specified within this app instead. It's a workaround, but it works well!
Usage instructions and changelog are in the 2nd post.
Cheers,
Slopppy.
Brief usage instructions:
After installing the app, open it, choose the volume you want the ringer to be, whether you want it to vibrate or not, then finally check the bottom box to enable it. At this point, when you receive a phone call, it will ignore the system volume settings, and use these settings instead.
To turn it off, just launch the app again and uncheck the last checkbox. The regular notification volume settings will kick in as per normal.
It should run in the background, and should auto-start when you reboot.
Changelog:
V 1.2 (recommended version)
Released 02-Feb-2011
New feature: Notifications! Gives you the option to enable a notification icon displaying the status of ICS Enhanced Ringer Control. Also gives you quick access to the app!
Green icon = enabled;
Red icon = disabled!
Tweaked the way the service starts after a reboot, actually works the way I intended now!
Minor code cleanup, increased the efficiency of the app in a few minor areas.

Version 1.01
Released 30-JAN-2012
Bugfix - Volume was restoring after making an outgoing phonceall ... not anymore!

Version 1.0
Released 29-JAN-2012
Initial version.
I'd try it.
Im on Virtuous Inquisition 3.0 running 3.24 revolutionary firmware.
I'm game to beta test it, as I was thinking about writing an app to do the same thing. You've saved me hours of work, so let's get your app up to prime time
Thanks guys, have PM'd you a download link and usage instructions
Thanks!
Just installed it and I went 3 out of 7 and now maxing it out to 7 volume level. Now how does the app work if the volume is adjusted on the phone via volume rockers? Does your app override this level?
Sounds Awesome man... Also I'd be Willing to try it out for you man...
I can try on my Sensation.
Using ARDH 6.2.1
I'm running hyper nonsense ICS v0.1 and I'm game if you're still looking...

Yep, should work fine jimmy. Basically whenever the phone rings it saves the volume state, then overrides it with the settings you've specified, then restores them again afterwards.

Nah, it's not meant for boosting, just for allowing different volumes/vibration setting for calls/other notifications! The volumes stay within the ROM limits.
Let me know if you're keen to test it though

Don't get me started on an Apple rant ... they tend to go for days
I PM'd you a download link and usage instructions for the app, let me know how you go ... I'm keen for some feedback!
Just a teeny tiny note, I've renamed the app from "ICS Enhanced Ringer Volume" to "ICS Enhanced Ringer Control". I won't change anything in the apk for now, maybe just the app label, but that won't have any affect on anything.
I think that describes the app a little better.
I would like to test this app and give feedback. Let me know if you need more testers.

Hi slopppy, you're absolutely right: this new "feature" makes me totally angry. If You still need beta testers, I am ready to help a bit.
I am on the last ICS Elegancia using a non-branded Sensation XE.

Sure, several times. Can you help me because you obviously know something i dont? Btw, i have Zaiben's rom.
Anyone?
If it's not under Settings -> Sound as you state, then maybe
try and search for it in your caller/call app and go into the in app settings?
Would be the only other place I could think of.
I gone from stock since a long time ago so no way for me to tell exactly where this could be.
EDIT: This may be something for you:
Disable Increasing Ring - App - Playstore Link
I searched every place that could have something in common with sound, but nothing.
And I tried that app - good thing about it is that ringtone was normal
but in first few seconds sound stutter a bit so there is good and bad side.
Eh, it seems l'll need to try different rom.
Thanks anyway.
