[Q] Cameras disassembly - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guy's
I need to remove the fornt and back camers from the device because i'm working in facility which prohibited to enter with camers.
I would like to know if the device will continue to function WITHOUT the camera module?
I mean, if I remove the camera modules from the device, will it function normaly?
Thanks!

good luck
do they even see you've a front camera?

Why don't you get an old crappy phone to use there and your sgs outside ?

Because I need to use some of the features of the device while working
Any1 can please answer my question?

Just tell them you removed it....its not like they will break your phone

I doubt anyone here will know.. If you are good with electronics, check the way they are connected to the mainboard. But realistically, you can only try it. Not sure if both cameras would be connected to a separate board though

I've broken down PDAs and smart phones over the years and even done a lens replacement and a camera module replacement on an iPhone. I can tell you right now the time cost and angst are not nearly worth the effort. For example the back case replacement on the iPhone 3G requires an almost complete tear-down of the device minus thankfully separating the glass screen from the digitizer and the LCD. I do not do this repair in my business because the cost and time is worth more then the device its self.
That all said, you have a unique situation that possible requires unique effort. If your company bought the phone for you I would say go for it, with approval of course.
Odd you would need the device but not allowed cameras... you designing a competing device? You wouldn't work in Redmond would you?
Alright enough teasing. Disabling or removing the modules might mess with so many other components or even the OS. Think of it as simple PC with a missing component, sometimes it wont boot without it, even though it seems completely unrelated to the core system. Without being on the design build teem of said device, its a crap shoot it would even run without the modules.
Removing the lenses might be a better option, as silly as that sounds. Just taking one apart is opening a crazy can of worms. And I seriously wish you luck.
Call Samsung and tell them your Q from James Bond maybe they will offer to help. Seriously, try the manufacturer, after they say up and down and over and over again that it will void your warranty, they might just help you.
This site is more about software development, mods and roms, then actual hardware work. Good luck though! And post pictures of the break down... ahhh... with a different camera, ...and not at work. ;-)

Just place some tape over the lens. =)

Why don't you use some paint?
Then you don't need to ruin the phone.
They can test it and it will not show anything.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

well I guess that you should just dissable it http://www.careace.net/2010/06/09/disassembly-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s/ and remove the lens and tape the wires ..

Can I ask you a question. Are you a spy? Just kidding lol. Looks like you'll have to give this one a go yourself. It's not like people take there cameras out there phones to see if they will boot everyday. If you find out the answer please report back...

Since paint would not be easy to remove, maybe your workplace would be ok with that? Would look ugly though.
Maybe buy a cheap phone for work and leave the SGS at home or in your car (if you drive).

You sparked my interest, ...I found a fairly good site with a break-down list with pictures and I think a video of the disassembly.
http://www.sprintdroids.com/forum/s...-galaxy-s-torn-down-extensively-detailed.html
Sorry about the jokes before, I just couldn't resist.
A hint on after tear downs, restart up procedures can be odd. The iPhone likes to be restarted up in recovery mode or it wont boot. And stay grounded! Use a grounding wrist strap. One static arc and it will fry any of the multitude of chips.
I have know idea about our Galaxy S's. Read study and Google it a lot. I did my best when I read about all the mistakes and failure people made, and there were many. Over time as this device becomes more popular it will have far more data on the web. Right now its so new not to many people are cracking the cases with being under warranties etc... Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Don

If you use right paint. Use waterbased paint.
You could easy removed it with car polish without damage the lens when you dont want it anymore.

Integrated Antenna

What do people think about integrated antennas like these:
http://store.mp3car.com/Roof_top_GPS_Cellular_PCS_WiFi_antenna_p/com-008.htm
I am thinking about getting one like this for my car obviously to up the gps and cellular signal strength.
A question I have for any TyTn II experts, Which antenna does the WiFi use, is it integrated into the cellular antenna or gps or neither?
Neither, I believe all three have their own internal antennas. I say this because I have seen the internal photos of the Hermes and Trinity (which has GPS) and they had seperate small antennas. The Kaiser has two external antenna ports but after bricking my 1st Hermes by plugging an external antenna in and having it kill my radio, I'll never play the external game again. Besides it seems to work very well on all radios, even simultaneously, without externals.
I Would Have To Go With All In A 3 In One (technicaly)
FROM MY EXPERIENCE I WOULD SAY THAT THEY ALL WORK WITH THE RIGHT DRIVERS.
hOW EVER BEING ABSTRACT I WOULD SAY SINCE I BELIEVE MOST OF ALL THE PHONES HAVE GPS BUILT IN and THAT THE WRITE DRIVER SHOULD GIVE YOU THE ABILITY TO UTILIZE THE antenna FROM THE PHONE WHICH HAS MORE THAN ONE WIRE IN IT.
external NOW YOUR TALKING SOME EXTRA BOOST JUST FOR YOUR CONNECTION TO IT.
YOU CANT GO WRONG, TRICK IS ALL ABOUT TIME AND EFFICIENCY COST IS PERSONAL OPINION[
good luck
The first photo is with the rubber grommet off and you can see the hole that goes through to the documented external GPS antenna. In the red circle is a piece of plastic that is blocking another external antenna port.
The 2nd photo is with the whole back off and inside the circle again you can see the extra antenna port.

1. Stop yelling!
2. Most phones do NOT have GPS built-in.
3. You don't need drivers to use an external antenna. It's a physical connection.
4. Get your facts straight.
5. I like the antenna. Now if it had an XM antenna in it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. It would also work great for wardriving (not with my Tilt, but with my laptop)
Another Fan i apologize for not being clear

Who said anything about drivers for the XM Radio antenna. I said Driversfor the internal gps antena. Read the kaiser wiki... the wiki for the pre-installed gps module.
4. Get your facts straight.
Well this is the part where tell you my way of thinking. I dont read so bare with me considering i am self taught and taking over a hundred different phones apart i can even say with out knowing that they stopped the technology cause 1000 features that are to advanced become a forum!!!!

People don't like when you use ALL CAPS. It looks like you're yelling at them.
The way you made your statement, it sounded like you needed drivers for the GPS antenna, which is not true. You need drivers to utilize the GPS radio. Two different things. You even got the two mixed up in the same post.
I seriously doubt the Kaiser is 5 years old. Where are you getting this information??
Personally I think your statements tend to ramble and be incoherent, but I digress. The Kaiser is an excellent phone. I love having built-in GPS. I am probably going to buy an external GPS antenna for it, although it really doesn't need it. I can even get 2-3 birds inside my house.

What does this mean? That HTC or other cell phone manufacturer are removing components on a board they've already produced before they release a new phone? Why on earth would they do that when they could save the cost of buying the additional circuitry in the first place and just order a run of what they want?
I said Driversfor the internal gps antena.

Not really, no. It sounds like you're saying the Kaiser is using a board that's five years old and has physically had circuits removed from it because HTC didn't want to provide all of the features/functions that they could. I sincerely doubt that this is the case, since they'll produce a couple million of these things and paying even $1 extra for circuits they'll remove and labor to remove them makes no sense when they can order up a board that they want and get it for cheaper.
Throw in that you posted in all caps (considered rude by just about everyone) and then provided information that just doesn't add up, I'm not surprised you got push back.
Again i apologize for beining insulted and for any misrepresentation
I really don't feel like explaining my self, so if you feel that i am attacking you i apologize.

I came to the conclusion that they all had gps in them from a market professional stand pioint. So really just appriciate some input.

Don't insult us by calling us "genius". There are a lot of very smart people on this board. Without their help, my phone wouldn't be nearly as fun to play with.
You made a pretty broad assumption that if one or two phones have GPS built-in, then all of them do. The fact is, very few phones have GPS built-in. My last phone, the 8525, was a very good phone with lots of features. It's less than a year old and it doesn't have GPS. Go ahead and keep making those assumptions and you'll stand out as someone who doesn't know how to do any kind of research. You will make yourself look like a fool.
P.S. Spell check is your friend. Use it.
Actually the 8525 does have GPS! However, after in-depth investigation these XDA folks identified that while the IC Chipset did have GPS as part of it's standard fratures, HTC shorted those particular pins to ground on the circuit board and did not include the internal amp and antenna assembly as well so it was impossible to make it work on them without major micro surgery. The Trinity, however, had the components and thru software was able to have it's GPS come to life. But certainly all phones don't have Chipsets with integrated GPS.
I would agree that many companies will use a particular chip and elect NOT to provide all of the features at first release or for specific models, that is normal marketing driven buisness and gives us reasons to buy the next model.
XDA certainly has made it possible for us all to reap the collective tinkering experience and get more from the phones we have and sometimes get these hidden features with a little work.
No disrespect "aboutthemind", but I must agree that your text is a challenge to understand, but I'm always amazed at the worldwide, round-the-clock, activity on this forum. I've learned so much here.

Actually they got the GPS chip activated but could receive no valid data since the antenna bits were not present, they investigated the internal components and determined that it was basically not worth the effort to attempt to unsoldier all of the grounded pins on the chip and then get an amp/bandpass filter and antenna installed. No one ever got a 8525 to work and the project halted, but along came Kaiser!
Here's another one: http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=151025 much cheaper too, but only to be placed on the dash. Probably work just as good though.
My Wing has only one external connection. I bought a 3 watt Wilson booster which then goes to a Yagi (one directional antenna). Its awesome the reception I get. Costs about $300.00 to do all this.
ok no gps in 8525 and aboutthemind is a fool Y N

Sorry man, but I can't make any sense out of what you're trying to say. I didn't put any words into your mouth. I don't know where you got that idea.
You made some pretty broad statements about GPS in phones and I told you that that is not true - most phones do not have GPS built-in. The 8525 has some of the hardware, but it is not a complete, workable solution.
Also, I did not call you a fool. I said you would look like a fool if you made broad statements about phones in general that are not true.
'nuff said.

Removed both cameras!

I removed both cameras on the first day I got my Diamond. I've been looking through the service manual before and felt primed.
Beforehand I want to tell you I did this already to my Magician and my Hermes - easy like swinging compared to the following.
After nearly 2h everything was put together again (I spare you the dirty and sweaty details). Before I switched on again I already thought about posting here something like "don't do it... it's cumbersome". Ok, then I switched on.
Booting up just fine . Since I touched those sensitive antennae cables I tried my SIM-PIN, works. WLAN & BT, works. Navi (GPS) no signal!
During the next tremulous 4h I tried "everything". Cutting it short: there was a conducting patch grounding the GPS antenna cable . I pushed that cable 5nm (there's actually no room left within the housing - as long as the cameras are still in) below and it all worked again.
To sum it up: don't do it! I mean it: DON'T DO IT. If you're a reckless person - seek some other "joy".
Why am I posting in ROM dev.: Maybe someone has too much time and wants to save me some storage space and wants to cook me a ROM without camera stuff OR someone is in need of a tester for special software (e.g. 1st torch software for Magician needed the camera, my own software later on didn't need a camera and was much more lean and fast).
PS: If you still wonder why I actually did that -> company policy.
Dont know if i should laugh or cry... or go to bed -.-
Couldn't you just spray paint over the camera lenses or put scotch tape on them?
I don't know what to say... other than WTF!
@techdave: You'll be asked "R U carrying a camera-cellphone with U?" at the plant entrance. If the camera is "only" blinded they could get nitpicking and say there still is a camera. But I can "lordly" answer "No".

Haha only temporarily, he can put them back when he quits because he gets sick of a Diamond with no camera.
@racerx_: Don't exaggerate. It's neither that expensive nor is it maimed (luckily). There's been always little use for these cheap CMOS sensors for me.
hey, do your company guards know that you can bring your cameras in separate pocket and then reassemble it back at the facility? ;-)
Carrying the cameras would violate company policies itself - no matter whether in conjunction with a suitable device or not. Technically you'd also bring a USB-Cam, LAN-Cam and whatever cam.
I've got nothing more than a usual cell phone with added holes. Would this be violating? Almost every cell phone has got bluetooth capability. So what about bluetooth cams? Ooops. Is every (BT-)phone now violating the above policy?
What are you on man? Whatever it is its kicking in awesome.

I guess the policy is not to carry cameras, otherwise the policy would probably have been not to carry any communication device. Carrying a device with holes but with no camera's would be acceptable then. If not, you'd also have to remove the BT and the WiFi, since there are probably cameras out there that can communicate with BT or WiFi. If you are going to remove that, please take pictures (if you still can without the camera)? LOL
How did you move the GPS grounding cable a stunning distance of 5 nm? Is that cable fixed enough not to vibrate back while using the device?
I must say, I should go to sleep, did not cry, but felt a joy while reading your thread. Nice one! Thanx

Well, 5nm were of course disproportionate. But yes, the cable is bendable. Although I wouldn't push it more than needed. Till now it didn't resume position because my device still knows where it is (although I don't know all the time).

I would be lucky if we were allowed to use phones with *removed* cameras. We have to prove, that it was a cameraless device from the beginning (like in: go to shop, buy without camera). Not sure if there's a official (i.e. AT&T) version of the diamond without camera.
(oh, and I regularly disassemble my smartphones when they get sick, nothing to worry about)

Yea, AT&T sells the Fuze with no camera. I guess you have to buy it through the business site or via phone though...

** CLOSED ** Use other thread - FFC for the Vibrant ** UPDATE 10/8 - 2.1 works

Breaking news available via my twitter feed or #vibrantFFC
FFC works in 2.1 with Bionix 1.6. No video calling available yet, but FFC does work.
10/8: There are a lot of changes coming to this thread over the next 12-24 hours. This has turned into a thread with too many functions that is cluttering each other. Due to this, and a few requests from our moderators, I feel I need to make these changes before continuing too much further.
This was originally intended to be a thread on making an FFC work, and getting the expected use out of it, both on the hardware side, as well as some needed software development. I have been asked to move the purchasing buddy system to another thread in Vibrant general as well as a couple other things. I will have these all set up tomorrow.
I would like to apologize for being a bit silent recently. I had been called to take on some projects out of town for work, and just got back into town last night. I have been trying to pack for my move since, and still have some more to do.
Beyond this, I have good news. The first shipment has been ordered with expedited shipping. Should have it in hand by the end of the week. Details for those that have sent pms will be sent out tomorrow to give you details of a private buy it now ebay auction for presales of the first shipment. Once those people have been taken care of, or the shipment arrives, the single item purchase will be open to everyone.
Unfortunately, selling on amazon does not look like it can happen at this time. Once I can get past a couple hurdles, it should be good to go.
Thanks guys. Can't wait to hear everyone talking about their FFC's on their vibrants...
10/5 pm:
Hey guys,
I have gotten a lot of feedback from people interested in the FFC mod, and the wholesaler keeps changing the minimum order like a douche (10/6: Talked to the owner today - He's pretty cool, not a douche, but MOQ will stay set at 3 from now on). So, I am setting up an account on Amazon to sell them individually. The price is going to be about 30.00 bucks (It basically covers the units + wholesaler shipping, Amazon retail account, warehouse storage, and fulfillment services - with a little left over for beer) per unit plus shipping. If you are interested and haven’t contacted me yet, please PM me so I can order enough units to cover everybody.
Also, Amazon has free shipping with a Prime Account. For people who don’t know, you can sign up for a free Prime Account if you have a valid college email address (anything that ends with .edu). The signup page is a little hard to find, so here you go.
To those who have already pm'ed me: I will be sending individual pm's as soon as this is all set up, thanks.
10/5:
Sorry all, I have had a tight schedule the last few days... I will have more info very soon regarding the Amazon stock. Thanks for your patience and showing interest!
10/3:
With the supplier upping the minimum order quantity to three already, I wouldn't put it past them to increase again. With that said, I am looking into a way to do a large purchase of i9k cameras and drop shipping with amazon. I have a couple other ideas... whichever makes the most sense and costs the less I'll roll with. Chances are that after the extra costs, the price will be in the mid $20s to $30 each. If anyone is interested PM so I can get an idea... will have to make an initial purchase with cash out of my pocket, so need to know how many we are looking at. I'll get a chance to make a couple calls tomorrow and update this with more info.
tested, working
Needed:
Replacement Camera with ffc: GlobalPartsDirect.com *** Wholesaler (Min order requirements, keeps changing, had been as high as 10) Working on individual purchases through Amazon **
Eugene's Froyo JP3(Latest as of this writing is R3)
Cameradata file: datapattern_front_420sp.zip (attached to post below)
Other things that can help:
Tools to open phone, fiberglass pen (not confirmed) or denatured alcohol, tear down video
How to do it:
1. Shutdown your Vibrant, remove battery, sim card, sd card
2. Remove each screw in the back plate
3. Using an opener tool (or something to wedge between the back and front plates), snap off the back plate.
4. Disconnect all of the "snap on" assemblies
5. Remove the Camera
6. being careful not to snap the connection to the power button (it is glued on the phone), move the main board to the side slightly so it stays safe.
7. Using your method of choice (paint remover chemical or fiber glass pen), remove the paint inside the circle molding where the FFC mounts to.
8. Install camera when area is fully dry (5 minutes or so)
9. Put phone back together
10. Flash Eugene's Froyo (R3 is latest as of writing) - remember to flash a 2.1 kernel whenever trying to nandroid restore or installing a 2.1 rom so you don't brick your phone during the downgrade
11. adb push cameradata file to /system/cameradata
12. boot up phone, download "mirror app for samsung galaxy s" from the market
13. Check your hair or something using your newly installed FFC!!
Code:
adb push [location to file]/datapattern_front_420sp.yup /system/cameradata/datapattern_front_420sp.yup
More info coming as I get a chance to add it...
UPDATE 9/30: Camera installed... With eugene's r3 froyo + the cameradata file, ffc works without any further set up. I'll update this post in the morning before I get on the road.
UPDATE 9/28: Found a camera from an i9k. Before I link it up, I would like to have some time to make sure its worth your investment. The i9000s camera snaps in as expected, and the rear camera works without a hitch. Need some dev help to get the ffc software into the build environment/kernel. In the mean time, I'll be plundering through the source.
Unfortunately, I am merely a web/db developer and can do bash scripting, but building android is not in my realm of expertise...
UPDATE 9/28: Good news is that the rear camera works as if I never switched cam assemblies. Also, as you can see in the fourth pic attached, if done right, the mod looks factory once done.
Now on to getting the front cam to work!!
Original Post:
Had to tear my Vibrant apart this last weekend, and in the process I did some research on the camera. See attached photos. The camera chip is the exact same chip used in both the Sprint Epic 4G and the international Galaxy S, as is the rear camera. The only difference is the inclusion of a front facing camera on the epic and i9000s. This got me thinking about how to mod the vibrant to have a front facing camera since they are the exact same thing.
On the hardware side, obviously you need a hole for it. BUT WAIT!! Samsung already left an opening in the body mold for the front camera to mount to! All you need to do is drill a hole through the mold. Looks to be a 7/64" bit would be needed. A 1/8" bit looks like it will take too much away.
Next step would be mounting. Well sh*t. The camera snaps onto the main board under the chip.
So the hardware side is easy (assuming I can actually find the camera), so it comes down to software. From what I can tell is that the galaxy source includes the modules for every phone... so this could be easy, correct?
i would love to pull this off, can you mount a replacement camera from the epic or i9000s?
if you need a tester, ill be glad to help.
i bet sammy is going to release an updated version of the vibrant in the feature with a front facing camera, only makes sense since they left the spot in the chassis.
i would love to give this a try, after its been done of course lol but if u get it working plz let me know lol
not sure but i think this is the camera
http://www.littlediode.com/componen...31d4d4e1&xid=761c237b005c7758f0c56efbc4c1b464
I too would love to do this, but I cannot find the damned camera. Still looking though. Put an inquiry into a US based company that has 5 "MC10170's" in stock. Let's see what they get.
Still want to know anyone's thoughts on the software side though....

I looked at the captivate teardowns and pics. Although they seem to have the same hardware (very much the same), the whole thing is laid differently. From what I could see there is not a spot where a front facing camera would easily go.

Yea i looked at some too after posting, kinda stinks for them, looks like AT&T wanted there iPhone to be the only phone with a front facing camera, lucky for them AT&T users can unlock Vibrants and use them on AT&T! I believe the vibrant supports AT&T's 3g band, correct me if im wrong.
Why could we not just contact samsung and send our phone to them and have them add the camara for us....Our order one from the with the ffc as a option then we would have it all sw and hw....

A Few Reasons I am not happy with the N4

I am not trolling, but maybe the N4 isn't for you, I hope you won't close this thread or get to mad, I just want to save some the frustration of buying this device ... here is why
1. OTG USB - it said it had it when I bought it, it doesn't ! This isn't a very "advanced" feature nowadays and is basic. I can't plug in a keyboard, a external drive, or million other things. This would have been a deal breaker for me.
2. The battery isn't very good, having extra batteries is a very good thing, and charging them in a charger with you phone stashed away is a must while traveling sometimes.
3. It is too fragile for many people's daily use, the glass back is expensive to replace, it doesn't have areas made to take impacts like most phones should for use in the real world.
4. An SD card is awesome in a phone, it really is you can do so much in daily productivity with one.
5. It doesn't come with a headset and that sucks big time, ad that to the cost of ownership.
6. JB doesn't have Mass Storage mode, this very important to many people, Samsung still has it thou. Its great as you might want to plug your phone into a strangers mac in the middle of a desert one day and you won't be able to move files.
7. the main camera is under glass, so if you scratch the glass you get bad shots.
8. it is so slippery that you need to have a bumper on it, I dont like cases and bumpers as It is already to big for my pocket naked.
Now I know there is reasons people might love this phone, for playing games plugged in at home, some might care about getting updates ASAP (i dont care at all) It does have a pretty screen, wireless charging... there is lots of reasons you might LOVE this phone, but for ME it is a big huge downgrade from any other "superphone"

Edit
I love this phone//N4 FTW \m/
like a boss
Like I said, don't get mad Bro's, why would you all be so defensive ? It's all good.
Lots of people would LOVE this phone, I said it.
When I ordered it said it had OTG on page, that is fraud in some peoples book, I guess you guys don't care, but I was mislead about a very important basic feature, it almost makes the phone useless, I need OTG more than any other single feature.
If you need phone in the outdoors, this isn't the phone for you, if you need it to move files as easy as you can, this isn't a good phone, if you need lots of battery power, this isnt the phone.
There is lots of reason this may be the prefect phone for you, but for me it isn't.
I am pissed about the cheap construction and the OTG thing, and no headset, those I didin't know when I ordered original.
Your so brainwashed you want to ban someone that isn't agreeing with you ? little hitlers are you ?
What a geeky forum this is, I am not insulting your girlfriend or mom, or yoru race or anything worth getting mad about, I am saying this phone is a big bummer for me all around and I voiced my concerns. You can't handle the debate as you can't really explain why a SD , removable battery, OTG, and a less likely to crack phone isn't good for any usefull reason other than someone has told you it feels better, cloud storage is better and you are find with one battery.
Ok, I guess I am a revoultioanry compared to the sheep around here, I am just being rational. You are not.

wow, ban someone for not liking their new phone ? That sounds like something a troll would enjoy doing, or Hitler might have, silence the critics scotty, we can't let the bad news out, kill them all ! Black debates where you can't win you just say something like someome is a troll. You are a insecure dude, get a life, it is just a consumer device.
But you have already made these points and have had a thread closed, so why post it again? You lose credibility then and most of your issues are quite subjective to say the least. And to top it off, no headset? What, you mean no cheap tacky headset that is usually replaced by a much better one by the user, isn't included in this phone which is pretty much atleast £100 ($150 to $200) below the cost of other similar phones? And that is an issue? hahaha ok!
they closed my thread because it was in the Q+A forum, fair enough, so I put it in the general forum.
Nothing offensive about my posts of anything, your just mad that I think of this rationally and not like some fairy tale.
I see lots of posts of people complaining about their phones for others to learn from.
It was the people here that convinced me to buy this and not the S2x for $140 less in price, so I wanted to say why I wasn't happy in the end.
This phones isn't as useful to me than others and I said why.

No thats the thing it is $150 US more expensive that a comparable and for ME a much more usefull phone the SSGS2x with 1.5 gig pro, 1 gig memory, OTG !!!!!, NFC, SD CARD STORAGE !!!!, removable battery, Mass Storage Mode, and many other things that make it FAR better than the N4 For ME for WORK and TRAVEL. I don't watch movies or play games.
Your issues are of course valid but could have easily gone in any off the numerous threads already posted, especially considering none of your issues are unique in any way shape or form. In fact most of them are pretty obvious from just looking at the spec sheet.

for trolling, which is what you are doing. Everything you wrote has been said here many times before, you are not discussing anything new. If you are such a rational thinker then why did you buy this phone when there are so many problems with it? Blaming xda because you bought this phone and are not happy with it makes you the sheep.
I would have to agree with the above statement.
I hope the N5 will bring back the things I mentioned I like, its frustrating with new stuff, one step forward, two sideways, one back...
Otherwise, I admit is a beauty in the hand, fast as hell, pretty to look at, I love vanila android.
Here is another thing I LOVE about this phone - for some reason on my cheap proxy browsing with speak out 711 $10 a month, all my apps are working right out of the box, I don't know why, but it made my cheap browsing only plan unlimited data.

[Q] Is this a virus or what?

I got a new battery last year in sept or that time around, but its kinda loose. (its 1200mA, Original samsung battery for the Ace)
It's not the exact size though, its a wee bit smaller, and slimmer.A slight tap on the back and my phone switches off.
This happens even if, a slight shake or something.
One day, I was using my phone, I was in the bus, and a bump came up,my hand shook, and the phone switched off.
when I switched it on, all the apps stored in my SD card was gone.
I rebooted twice, still nothing.
So, I downloaded the apps again, and they installed properly.
Then I decided to change my rom since I thought I've used it for a few months, so I switched to "The Ultimatum"
And just last week, the same thing happened, except this time, even when I download the same apps (like FB and whatsapp)
it doesnt install. FB FC's before even opening and Whatsapp FC's after it says it's found message backup.
so I installed friendcaster and FB messenger.

I think your problem is your battery, if the changes aren't saved you can lose your data...it'd corrupt you data partition too, so flash a fresh stock an then flash a custom rom and be careful with the battery
If you're still under warranty, head to the nearest Samsung service. They'll provide you a new battery free of cost. If your warranty is over, you may have to pay. Any case, buy one new battery.

Put some thick material like cardboard or something and stuff the battery compartment so that it doesn't move when it gets any bumps or shocks. Just make sure the material is heat resistant, it shouldn't catch fire or melt/expand when the battery heats up.

Its a tested process, the old nokia phones usually got their connector pins loose after 2 years of use and people used a folded paper to stuff the casing and make sure the battery stays connected. Sure there was never a problem of heating then but that's why i said to use something heat resistant, i am not suggesting him to blow himself or is phone up over this.
He bought a new battery, that indicates that he is not under warranty anymore, i suggested a way he can make his battery fit inside the case without disconnecting and loosing data free of cost, now you are suggesting him to spend more money on such a trivial thing?
Why waste money, its not spoiling the cosmetic looks of the phone, its fixing a problem, its safe and its free, why are you opposed to something this good?

Everything local works in India But people in the outside world, in U.S.A. for example don't go to try such things, they just get a replacement. But why not give it a try if the phone's sold with a defective hardware and you're still under warranty ? You're bound to get a free replacement.
Talking about money, if this advice was being given to a noob that obviously will work wonders outta it, he/she would definitely end up in a deeper trouble...! I've seen people bury water drenched phones under rice...! So in short, xda's noobs are way more experimental then what you'd suppose. So, always give suggestions that bring a permanent fix to the problem, so that you don't have to keep on replacing the paper wearing under your battery just because it doesn't fit the size like it did yesterday

Like i said before, he bought a new battery, he would have gotten a replacement if he had warranty!
And i just gave a suggestion, its not about who uses it, a noob does not mean he is an idiot or is retarded and he will use paper alongside a heated battery, that would be really crazy, it only means that he is new at the android development and is not familiar with the technical processes and terms, i didn't suggest rocket science to the guy!!
And its just a suggestion, if it works in India, that does not mean it won't work anywhere else, if he likes it he can follow it otherwise ignore it or use a better option and its not your place to approve or reject someone's suggestion when you are not the OP.
There is no need to carry this topic forward.
Both of you are correct in your respective manners.

I was just trying to say what kinda suggestions you need to give. But you seem to take things way beyond the aspect talking about authority, etc. Anyways, I don't wanna end up in a taunt over a topic that doesn't even concern to me. Have a nice time, let's forget that this even happened, let's be friends

virus?¿?¿ HAHAHA!!!
I think your problem is your battery, if the changes aren't saved you can lose your data...it'd corrupt you data partition too, so flash a fresh stock an then flash a custom rom and be careful with the battery
