What´s the most fast and stable rom/leak ?
thank you

That combination is in my opinion the smoothest of all.

Can you tell me what JM8 has over JM7? I can't be bothered updating for unknown changes.

Definitely JM8 + Voodoo

I'd differ and say HVJH1 + voodoo

JM1 (official one) + voodoo are the best at this moment ! stable and speedy !

Anyone try the custom ROMs? Do they generally provide any additional benefit to the Stock Roms other than cosmetic?

I'm running JPH and it has been probably the most stable rom that I have used so far. Also have Rombie's mod which is really just lipstick on a hot chick. Yea she looks better but still not a beauty queen just yet.
Unless the final Froyo build is significantly improved, I will probably stick with this until CyanogenMod finally comes out or a solid clean AOSP build.

I flashed JPH and its nice, I find it alot quicker than the stock. Exchange issue sucks though. I am contemplating the Lag Fix to make it run even better, but dont know how much space is supposed to be allocated to the Ext Partition. By default it wants 843MB... That good enough, anyone use the One Click lag fix2.0.4?

I am running JPH with Ryan ZA OCLF 2.04. It is running pretty smooth and without any issues. It's perhaps the best Froyo ROM so far.
I don't know how to justify the speed and breeziness of the UI, but its just fast with Quadrant scores of 1892.
I would definitely stick around on this one before official Froyo comes out.
I had JM7 before- everything was cool except the lack of Flash and poor GPS prompted me to move to JPH.

How much Memory did you allocate to OCLF? I want to try and make this thing run as optimally as possible.

I use the bionix rom and the lag fix, which is really good. my quadrant was like 2300, the bar went to the end of the screen. Eugene hybrid is really good too.

Recommended for its speed and almost zero bugs (contrary to JM8)

I just tried Lagfix 2.0.4 and it bricked my phone. Now I can't enter recovery, only download and after flashing any firmware it shuts down after the Samsung Galaxy S screen.

You're probably asking the wrong person.
JM7 and JM8 has no perceivable difference or features... except speed, for me. JM7 was the worst fw i tried, by far, sluggy as hell. I used a super-clean flash for both, updating the same way for both, but the results are incomparable
If you are unsatisfied with JM7 lag-wise (we know it's laggy by definition, but i mean, if you're really pissed off with what you have) maybe it's worth a try.
EDIT: Forget it, i was curious too and i did a comparison about the filesystem.
Here is the files that change between JM7 and JM8, and so they have probably got the developers' attention.

I'd go with JM5 so that you can use either Hackeclair or SamSet on it. Personally I'm using SamSet 1.9e but there seems to be a universal drop in Quadrant scores for those using it with RyanZA's One Click LagFix- if you're a benchmark addict you can go with SamSet 1.9d and get those extra 500 points but personally I'm fine with 1.9e and I don't put all my trust in the number Quadrant churns out.
JM5 + SamSet 1.9e + LagFix
define stable...
Everything above JG5 messes up Exchange Sync...
For me JG5 messed up GPS
I would say JF3 is still the most reliable
JM5 f*cked up my phone bad, extremly instable. Maybe some jippo with the install though.
JF7 is completly stable and the most recent stock FW. (At least in sweden)
I'd like to avoid using any of the lag fixes if possible, and if absolutely necessary I'd rather use ChainFire's fix because of all the prechecks it does. I'm not THAT familiar with Android just yet and I'd rather have a program hold my hand for a while first.
So seems like the general verdict seems to be JM5 + CF's lag fix if necessary. Any other thoughts?
Btw by stable I mean it can do everything it's supposed to do without error or too much configuration.

I've not used CF's, but Ryan's wasn't a problem to install (I think I tried 2.3 and the original 1.0) quite simply a single click, although I did get an infinite boot loop when I uninstalled 2.3.
Can someone give me a quick rundown of what SamSet actually does? I flicked through the thread but to my uneducated eyes it seems to only be yet another lag fix (on the external sd card this time) and a set of themes, but I think I'm wrong...
JM5 + SamSet 1.9e + one-click root + One-click lagFix 2.0...that will do it.
I'm using JM5 + Chainfire's lag fix myself.

i don't think you understood fully, a custom ROM is full of fixes + tweaked + has custom apps + yes can have a custom theme, and SamSet does in this case Read the first post properly, it is also rooted for you.
Here is the breakdown of what the cooker did with this ROM:
no wipe required <--- if you are already on one of his ROMs you don't need to flash back to JM5 you can just flash the next Samset update on
- first boot make time
- reverted to busybox 1.17.1 (more cmd's)
- added sqlite 3
- added sideloading
- added MCR Scripts and addon's
- Replaced InfoAlarm with GenieWidget
- updated theme (minor adds)
- added script to remove all custom added apps (look in /sdcard/ase/scripts/RemoveSamSetAdds.sh for complete list)
- optimized framework-res.apk to reduce size and memory overhead
There is also a lagfix BUT if you already have one click lagfix installed there is NO need to install the kernel, which is SamSetKernel_v2.5_PDA, don't worry about that it's more hassle
Look at the screenshots compared to your stock JM5, it's different and looks better. I can get more technical but i'm trying to explain on a noob level So, to conclude, a custom ROM which is the Samset one, is simply a tailored ROM to suit peoples different tastes (or the cookers) and it makes the phone's interface and usability much better.
@silitek: you do know you don't need to use One-Click root if you use SamSet's ROMs? they're already rooted
don't listen to the freaks....
Watch for the letter in the version:
P - only for super-geeks
M - instable !! Plan some hours of fixing every day
G - Mostly stable, some things just don't work
F - Stable, just slow
If you just one a phone that works, SGS is wrong choice. Get a Nexus where someone actually cares to develop current firmware roms.
While I would agree that JP ROMs (Android 2.2/Froyo) aren't recommended unless you're happy using alpha quality software, I can't say that JM5 causes me problems.
I installed JM5 yesterday, was using JF3 before. No problems so far, everything seems to be working *touch wood*.
Roll on an official firmware with file system fix! Don't want to play about with lagfix hacks just yet.

does anybody know if any of these froyos have the option to connect to AP networks?
in the past, I wasn't able to connect to my laptop and use it's internet and there were rumors that it would be possible in 2.2.
I use JPK and it does have the option to turn it into an AP.
I cannot comment for the JM8+Voodoo combo but i use JPK with one click lagfix and the phone flies. The gps for me is still pants but apart from that everything works ok.

[Q] what is the best Froyo custom version for Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000

Hi Everyone,
i'm pretty much new being a Samsung galaxy S user (but proud to be )
anyway, i've seen more than 6 version of Froyo 2.2 already here inside the forum but i really don't an idea which one is the best or latest (faster, stable etc)
i've installed Froyo 2.2 XXJPM with Odin and it's working ok~ but still a bit slow and buggy'-Jumpy when sliding within the Menu pages, no idea how to fix...
anyway, any idea which version will work the best for me or i should wait for the original-official one which should come out in Nov this year?
appreciate your comments folks.
thx!
Yanir
I use the stock Froyo JPM with the 336meg memory and universial lag fix, DAMN THE THING FLIES! I'm also using the ADVANCED JFS setting for universial lag fix. I highly recommend you just leave your froyo Stock and do what I did. The 336meg kernel also has busybox and root as standard. But hey, If you want to try roms then make sure the new roms have the universial lag fix in it as i notice a few already do. Also the extra 36megs of ram helps a lot. seriously
thanks!
can you share a link for the guide etc?
appreciate that mate!

Or go with Doc's and Kalpik's ROM.

[Q] Rooted and applied One-Click Lag Fix, what's next?

Okay, so I've done rooting my Cappy with ECLAIR.UCJH7 update. I've also done with the lag fix from the Market. Now, what I want is to flash a new Rom. I'm somehow caught up in the middle of Cognition and Perception, I don't know which one do I use. Can you help me out? And if possible, steps on how to apply/flash it. Do I need to restore my phone to default? Thanks and sorry for too many questions.
first thing you do is get rid of that oclf. It uses a dangerous method to make the phone APPEAR faster in a quadrant test...without ANY real world improvement. Cognition is the most popular, closest to stock build. check it out here. My preference is the leaked froyo with a few tweaks heres a look at cognition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532

[Q] After flashing Cognition 3.04 my phone seems slower?

It was my first ROM flash, and along with it i decided to get the gingerbread keyboard, too. I noticed that my captivate seems slower in general now. Screen transitions and stuff like that is fine, but opening apps is usually slower. Like the phone lags a lot. I have it OCLF'd. At least, i did before flashing. It seems to not have erased it.
Can anyone tell me what the sudden slowdown is about? Am i just paranoid?
thanks in advance.
You should not attempt to have two lag fixes. Cognition has voodoo lag fix built in. I would recommend you flash back to stock and then flash Cognition.

Go back to stock and flash Andromeda 1.1 or 2.1. I've tried many ROMs including that one and nothing matches the speed of Andromeda. I highly recommend it!

Cog is a good ROM but by no means the fastest one out there. Serendipty, Phoenix, Paragon, Andromeda will all give you a much faster / smoother experience.

I just flash to cog yesterday and it was my first time I did this in my SGS (previously I had a hacked Nexus One). I liked it to much, I'm happy with it.
