JPH EMAIL Lag...possible to install previous email? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Eail Lags in JPH, also exchange cannot reply too...well you can but you know what i mean...
is it possible to remove email and install another working version?
i have root manager and can uninstall stock apps (including email) so thought i could install a working APK if there is one.
my JPh is "okay"..JM8 was faster, but most of my lag is in email app.
my only prob with this version.
hope its faster in final.
cheers.

I removed the odex and apk files of email (exchange) from system/apps folder using Root Explorer. Then I copied the email.apk downloaded from here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729753
But I am getting a force close / freeze everytime I try to run this new replacement.
Any clues?

[Q] Sending Blank emails when replying

I upgraded to the leaked OS 2.2 Froyo and now I am getting the below issue when I reply to emails. Doesn't happen to EVERY email but several to cause me issues at work.
I am using Exchange only.
I reply to an email and it is recieved but all text I typed is missing and it actually looks as if I forwarded the email back to the sender.
I saw on another forum some other were experiencing this issue but none had a clue how to resolve it.
Anyone know how to fix this? Others seeing this?
Any help would be appreciated!!
???
Is no one else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve it? Do I need to wipe the deivce?
I've had this issue as well when using my exchange.

I had the same issue with email after cognition2.2BETA5.5. It seems that designgears had installed the AOSP email app but removed it in later versions due to too many complaints. I find that the AOSP app is much better then then TW Email apk. I performed the steps below to install the AOSP Email.apk. Replies work everytime without issue.
1.) Get the Email AOSP app from a different rom or make a request and I will happily provide a link to download the apk.
2.) Connect your phone to the computer and move the Email.apk to the root of your sdcard.
3.) Backup your current Email.apk with Titanium or manually copy it to another location on your phone.
NOTE: You may need to backup your phone settings so you can restore your launcher after clearing cache in the final step to avoid having to replace all of your home screen icons.
4.) Using Root Explorer or Astro, copy the Email.apk copied to your sdcard into the folder /system/app/ to replace the current app.
5.) Return to the home screen. At this point you should no longer see an email icon on your dock.
6.) Go to Applications->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
7.) Clear the cache on the TWLauncher Application.
8.) Return to the home screen and you should now see the email icon has returned to the dock.
9.) Restore TWLauncher settings with Titanium to restore home screen icons that were removed in the cache.
Please let me know if you need the email.apk from cognition2.2beta5.5
Aosp email.API link request
Is there a copy of the email.API that doesn't have the blank reply issue yet has all the features of cognition latest release?
I have attached a working Email apk to this post. Down load it and follow the steps in the post above to resolve the blank email reply issue. Let me know if you have any issues.
I followed the instructions, however, I did not have a backup of twlauncher, so now I don't have an email icon on my home bar
So put the icon back on your launch bar. It is configurable. (doing this from memory, so i may miss a step). Go to your list of apps -> menu -> edit and you can configure 3 of the 4 icons on the touchwiz launcer (you can't get rid of the apps shortcut).

Alright, hopefully you all are still willing to help somebody else out on this issue, as I am in the same boat as gibgib3. I have followed the steps above using the attached email.apk from f13nd0.
The issue I get is that launching email cause an immediate crash of the application, as well as attempting to add a new "Corporate" email account.
I am not an Android development power user myself, although I've used adb in the past sparingly. I really just am clinging to the leaked Froyo build from October, and just want working email (TouchDown is crazy slow and expensive) until Samsung finally pushes out an official Froyo build.
Any ideas here?
Flash a new ROM that has the email bugs fixed.

That is the "nuclear option" that I'd like to avoid. While I have everything backed up with titanium, I already am planning to flash back to stock when the official update comes out, so I'm looking to minimize the necessity to flash a ROM again.
I'm hoping that there is some "tried and true" way to swap out my email.apk with a working version, as the previous steps just result in a "Force Close" whenever I try and run it.
So the solution here, for anybody having this issue, is to remove the existing email.odex file from the /system/app directory, which was associated with the original Samsung email app.
All systems go here.
How do you remove the email.odex file? As it is in the system folder, the file permission is ready only and I cannot delete it. Is there a util in the market that you can download to change file permissions?
Root Explorer did the trick for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Does the phone needs to be rooted (my phone has the leaked froyo but do not think it is rooted) for the root explorer to be able to change the permission?
I download other free utils that has access to the file but cannot change the permission in order to delete it.
Yes, it does.

Rooting is the key to doing all "magic" stuff like this. What good is a wizard (user) without his magic wand (root access) to work on any magic (his captivate)?

Okay, I finally learn how to root the phone and was finally able to remove the existing email.odex file. Now I don't have the email icon anymore. I must assume you have replaced this email.odex file as well as the apk file??? I tried clearing the cache and everything on the twlauncher and it's a no go.

[Q] Duplicate Provider Authority

Rooted 1.0.1 BN with AutoNooter 2.12.25 installed.
I changed "ro.build.version.sdk" 8 thinking it would let me install Market 2.2.7. M2.2.7 works great. I tried to update my GMail 1.3 to the latest in GMail on Market. Got the Duplicate Provider Authority error. I did back up the GMail 1.3 with Titanium but know it won't restore.
So: I have no GMail at all now; and cannot find a GMail 2.X for eclair in english (several chinese ones outthere).
Any ideas?
Hi there. I was having the same issue. What i did was
1. Download the signed Gapps.zip from here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642189 its in the second post.
2. Use Root Explorer. Went into system/app and deleted Gmail.apk and GmailProvider.apk
3. Now from the zip file you downloaded. Extract the Gmail.apk and GmailProvider.apk. Using root explorer. Copy those files into system/app
4. Reboot your nook and you should have Gmail again.
Make sure you back everything up as always.
It worked for me. Hope it works for you as well.

Calendar app not working.

So I just installed Gingerbread JVH on my phone. Deleted all the useless apps out using Root Explorer but I ran into a problem.
I cant open the default calendar app. It force closes.
I guess I removed something I should not have removed.
In my system/app folder I still have:
-TouchwizCalendar.apk
-TouchwizCalendar.odex
So it has to be something else that causes the problem. Anyone know which file and maybe can upload it for me?
Thanks
EDIT: did some more research, I think I'm missing the Calendarprovider.apk.
Could someone maybe upload it for me from JVH or JVO?

gmail not pushing

I have no idea what's happened. I reflashed a mod I was using (maximus 12.1) and then restored everything with titanium. Everything else is working fine but the only way for me to see my new emails is if I open up the app and pull down to refresh :/ any suggestions?? I even deleted gmail logged out of Google on my phone and reinstalled gmail app.

You need to move the app from /data/app to /system/app, as it's a system app, and not 3rd party. Just re-download the app, then move it from /data/app to /system/app. You can use root explorer or es file explorer to move it. Then reboot the phone, and it should work.

ANDROID 5.0 apk

Enjoy! Currently running on LiquidSmooth 10.21 the only thing needed js to uninstall the orginal application and then restart your phone. After just install app using a file manager. The google keyboard and google now launcher is flashable through recovery.
* GMAIL: Try changing to default theme, instead of third party themes. It fixed my crashes with composing emails.

The lengthy process to get drive working for me..
USAN03 said:
Okay so as far as drive is concerned.. Youll need to delete documentsUI apk and the drive apk. Also you need to place the correct .so files into system/libs. You need to locate the lib files first and type .bak afterwards. Then the lib file that you download below needs to be placed into the folder. I recommend deleting orginal apks, restarting phone, then do the .bak for libs, and then copy over the lib files to the system/lib and restart phone. Extract the drive lib zip, open folder, then copy over the libs to system/libs. When you copy over verify that the .so is the same exact size as they were downloaded. They should not be 0.00. Then change permissions to -rw-r--r-- And restart phone.
** Here is a screen record to show you lib files...

Youre right about the gmail app. As far as the cal apk i had to uninstall the google app and cal storage apk then restart the phone.
Is this for only this phone or any android phone ? Also how can I uninstall the system apps like the calendar and others
Your phone has to be rooted in order to delete system apps and as far as other phones I don't see why it wouldn't work. I believe the only requirement is android 4.4.4
In messenger if I press attach icon it fc.

And you aren't getting FC's when you try to add a calendar event?
I followed the same steps (deleted google calendar and calendar storage, rebooted and installed the new app. I'm still getting force closes...
Edit: Dammit. Can someone please provide a backup of their calendarstorage.apk? I stupidly deleted mine without backing up after reading USAN's post and now I can't get any calendar to properly work, even when I download the official one from the Playstore.
As far as calendar I can't get it to work at all. The gmail I do have working properly now. With the only step done was taking off my material theme.

Thanks. But can you confirm that you were able to get the new calendar 100% functioning? If so, please provide your exact steps. I would love to get it to work but I just keep failing.

That worked. Thank you!
1) uninstall the old version (titanium)
2) move the downloaded apk to system\priv-app, and change the permissions (rw-r--r--)
3) reboot
4) change the buildprop (user too userdebug)
Gmail, messenger, agenda work for me without any issues on CM11s 38R
