new to this and need advice

Hi guys im new to this site and new to jailbreaking and would like some advice on the best build for the g1, im currently running the dudes 1.2 and the spec on about phone is as follows:
firmware 1.5
baseband version 62.50s.20.17h_2.22.19.26i
kernel version 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf
[email protected]#1
build number htc_dream-eng 1.5 cupcake eng.
thedudeabides.20090427.235325 test-keys
what i would like to know is, is there a better build than the one i have or is this pretty good, I only ask because im getting some issues with force close and huge delay in opening some websites ebay being one of them.
please help me because this is soul destroying and dont want to keep flashing different builds and having to re download all my apps

theres better roms than the dudes like the cyanogen builds google it if you cant find it then pm me

Hi peeps me again. I now have cyanogen 4.1.1.1.1.1 thanks to a guy on here but now i have a question everytime i make or recieve a call it say unknown number. Is this something that needs fixing on a future update or is it in settings somewhere or do i need to add another mod of some sort.

Has everything synced up correctly?

It does seem to have but how would i find out for definate. 1 thing i forgot to do is a wipe before installin 4.1.1.1 could this be the problem? If this is the problem would i lose all the apps and themes i have already?

If you have Apps2SD then no, you won't loose your apps, but if they're on your phone, then you will loose them if you wipe. Wiping also deletes your settings too.
I'd try wiping and reflashing if I was you.

I tried a factory reset and that done nothing but i will try a wipe. Am i right in saying i will have to reflash cyanogen and radio? Or just cyanogen

just the ROM, not the radio.

Usually after u install a new rom and sign into google u'll see sync symbol in the menu bar. once its gone all your google info should be synced to your phone. if the sync is not complete, and someone in your contacts list calls u the # will show up w no id. after every flash give the sync about 10 min depending on how big your contacts list is.
Once u get comfortable w flashing roms you should definitely partition your sd card. since most roms are apps2sd enabled when ever you install apps they are stored on the sd card. so when u start up with a new rom they automatically show up. partitioning also provides with alot more space. for now download "back up for root users" in the market. the app backs up all your settings, bookmarks, apps etc. and u can restore them after each flash.
partition info can be found here. if you are using cyanogen's 1.4 recovery thats good, but i'd like to recommend Ra's Dream recovery. it makes partitioning smooth as butter. i hope i explained everything right (chime in if not). and don't worry we've all been there.

right im all sorted with my numbers and everything now cheers guys, just one question what is the recovery image all about? when does that come up? what does it do? also how do i change the screen lock to a different style, i do like black and blue rather than the green standard one

Just flash a theme you like. Just make sure its compatible with your rom.

I have a theme sorted and its the blue metal one on open home although I'm using it through dxtop. Does anyone know if there is a way of just changing the colour scheme of the screen lock? When I was on the dudes rom it had a nice funky blue and black screen lock but now I'm on cyanogen 4.1.1.11 its got a not so nice green colour (I'm just not keen on green tbh) are there any custom screen locks out there at all?

No you won't be able to change the color. You can look in the theme section and see if there are any themes you like better. I think they are all better than any of the open home, ahome, or dxtop themes. Or you can modify your own theme the way you want it.

If you want I can make a flashable zip but some games may slow down...

I built it to be compatble with CKDroid, it may work also on other 2.1
modaco is an 1.5 rom, so it won't work

I don't know which is the cause of this issue, anyway consider that live wallpapers are not designed for hero

Hi guys i have been looking around on google xda etc. but there is nothing about running htc hero on xperia using haret, does anyone knows if this is possible . thanks in advance

First HTC Hero is a device, not something that run.
Probably you mean Hero's interface, HTC Sense. AFAIK is not ported yet.

Actually I've uses the Hero Rosie package from Blackstone, and it sucks. Not only it doesn't fit WVGA properly, but like sense on WM6, it's slow and takes ages to load. Plain android is no worse, I should say

i said what I wanted to boy...I too want a HTC Hero UI on my X1...i think it is by far THE best device by HTC..of course there are HD2 and all, but they have come later...

Well, I meant wm6.1 of course. Well, wm6 and wm5 can be ported to xperia, but it makes no sense. Just go to the Xperia ROM section and pick up any 'Leo' rom if you want sense for wm6.1/wm6.5

just use the current startup and the zimage, and copy the rest of the files. It should boot, it did for me once or twice

package_sense_hero_rosie_140310.tar.gz with rootfs_use_if_pbs_booting.img renamed to rootfs.img on my X1. Wifi doesn't work (well, I guess it will work once i put calibration and fix the init script but I don't care), but sound does (with the zImage from the nearby thread), and mic works for sound calls and voice command. Ok, I'll take my time to fix the issues and repackage the image. Still Sense sucks in WVGA. And a small hint to android users: if you want OpenGL and other cool things, launch the camera application before launching your desired app. That'll also make sense faster

I am using base_package0704.tar.gz + rootfs-20100414-f4f483c.zip + system1304.sqsh & downloaded latest kernel from "glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android" of course using drlucky's zImage. However i didn't manage to get sound working (vibrate is), shutdown is working...
Screen upside down since fatsal had to patch android driver for kovsky to initialize panel the correct way. I am not a programmer but believe it will need to be included in system.sqsh. I will give it try with set of files you're using and report on sound as well as overall impressions comparing to what I'm running

tried quickly with set of files above no sound...+ doesn't contain htc sense
as you see from my prev post, set of files I'm using, from gives a custom android 2.1 with HTC Sense look. from same thread "Sound" is among features requested for next release.

Seriously, what rom are you guys using? Im using Pauls FR4, but geting nothing but bootloops and crashes D: I am a ad-free member though, so i removed a couple of files when i baked the rom, but not anything i can imagine would impact this.

I'm using Pauls Pre-bake. Worked the first time for me but I did it in the most round about way ever! Probably due to me flashing the ROM and theme before my morning coffee..
I doubt any of the sequence I did played a part in getting it to work..but here goes
1) Titanium backed up my user apps
2) Booted into recovery, did a full wipe and flashed Paul's pre-baked R4 ROM.
3)Booted back into the phone, changed the date/time to the correct one, and pulled titanium backup from the market.
4)Did a titanium restore(only user apps)
5)Noted everything was working fine with the new ROM and rebooted into recovery again (to flash the theme)
6) Now here;s the doozy, intending to flash the theme I flashed Pauls rom again!
7)Had to wait for the ROM flash to finish and flashed the theme immediately after.
8) booted back into the phone and everything worked.
I seriously doubt you have to do it the way I did for it to work, but i figured I should included my flashing steps just in case you wanted to know

Strange !
With Desire HD so many Stuff installed via CWM, never get a Bootloop.
Here with r4 and P990 i got many.
- battery percentage installed, loop.
- theme installed, loop.
Using r4.
Any Ideas ?

The simple error
after trying 500 times to get the theme to work, i found the error, there are missing a _ in the zipfile.
Doc_Themev.0.2 change it to Doc_Theme_v.0.2, and it works like a charm.

Reporting to say it still works with r5.. but not sure what I lost from r5 because I flashed it

Lol switched to a x2 this weekend. I loved the phone in the store, but I disgusted the childish, over the top icons in the status bar. I thought, O well lets get this phone, there is always xda developers

I am so sorry.After analysis,i found this rom uses most of WRE1.5's apps and other resources.
I really look down those people at anzhi.com who are proud of copying others' work as theirs.

installation worked, it's booting now

Its working, in settings/info it says its cyanogen mod, i didnt mention any bugs till now, but it is booted since 3 minutes

I'm afraid to put a downer on this but it is the WRE rom with the build.prop changed. If it was CM9 it would have the Trebuchet launcher and it hasn't, and it has the same wallpaper issues when first booted just like WRE rom had.... So I'd be willing to put money on the fact its the WRE rom....

Not so much,
the wre rom has these listed as not working:
- Charging battery not working
- ROOT not working
- SMS (Long text)
- MMS
- GPS
- Mobile data
- Camera
Whereas this rom seems to have these working

Trust me its the WRE rom or at least based on it, the last version of WRE rom had nearly everything working ok, only MMS receiving didn't work and GPS only worked with google maps, everything else was ok. If it really was CM9 it would definately have the Trebuchet launcher on it....
I know this because I have done a lot of work on the last WRE rom trying to fix those 2 issues....
Edit: All the dates on the files are the same as WRE rom too...

to the guys who flashed this rom.
Can anyone make a screenshot from the screen where you can see the kernel version.
because when you can see the htc kernel than its not cm9 for me. cm9 needs an other kernel.
