Hi guys,
I have an HTC Desire, i like it and i love it, but i think it lacks on many features as compared to Galaxy S. So here i am guys i want to buy a Galaxy S for my brother, who actually wants a blackberry, i have convinced him that its way better.
So anyone who is using it can tell me how is it as far for contacts and messaging, and other features??
Thanks
to be honest.. Its pretty sh*t.. sorry but 3 days I had it.. Desire is sooo much better!
Galaxy S- buggy OS
laggy
bad battery (very!!)
screen too big to operate with one hand
etc etc thats my experiance with SGS..
I have to disagree with the above poster, I have had the Vibrant (t-mo galaxy s), for a little over a month now, works great. Sure the stock load sucks, but most do ..
Would not be posting on XDA if you did not know about custom roms.
Battery life, depends on what you leave running, I get at least a full day if I don't leave a Shload of things running, mine is rooted and use setcpu to throttle back when not needed ...
GPS issues, some have them some don't, mine, locks in about 30 seconds, and is down to under 10m accuracy.
Voice quality is great, much cleaner than the HD2 I had.
Compared to the Desire which is a good phone, the Screen makes the Galaxy S , a winner, not to mention the touch is super accurate.
Coming from the HD2 I could not say the screen is too big to use one handed ..
It is a very fast phone, it runs smooth with a lot of apps loaded, (on non stock firmware), and although FroYo is not out for it yet, should be coming soon.
Considering I can stand out in almost direct sunlight, and use the phone without squinting at the screen that is a big bonus.
The only thing I could say about the Vibrant variant, is it does feel almost cheap, since the battery cover is plastic, the phone is tough, but just feels too light to be that tough.
As far as contacts and messaging go, it works well, not sure I am thrilled with the TouchWiz, interface that is on top of them, but it works.
thanks for the response, i wont mind more of it.
Thanks

Fascinate (vzw galaxy) rocks. A quick root and titanium pro to double and triple battery life. I would type everything watcher64 did above, but he already did and I'm lazy. !PANDA must have small hands for being 16 to complain. But this is a man's phone.

Apparently you didn't have enough time with iT.
Buggy os? You kept it stock huh? Mines running a leaked 2.2 and its fast as sh*t
Laggy? Really? Did you really say that? You kept it stock for sure.
Screen to big? How small are your hands? Oompa lumpa sized? Mine are tiny and I can write just fine with one.
Bad battery? Hell no. This easily lasts me 2 days on one charge before it dies. You just have to train it.
Apparently you didn't spend enough time with it. Mines a beast!

Can't agree more.
so wait, let me get this straight. What y'all android lovers are saying is that you traded one buggy, laggy OS that requires an unlock and custom ROM to fix, for another???
I tried to help a coworker with his and it is very laggy and had several force closes over about an hour of me playing with it. Several times I had to wait 10-15 seconds for the screen to become responsive again.

Hi,
I'm seriously considering going out and buying this phone but I'm really not sure after seeing all the threads with people saying that they go back to their phone and it's switched off and requires a battery pull.
This seems to be a fairly serious problem but I was just wondering if it is happening to everyone who owns the O2x?
Please let me know if you are unaffected by the problem!

Dont do it go for SGS2
Mine is fine! 1 month of use and never crashed.
My phone has been fine not one reboot or freeze, stayed stock rom for first week then rooted and changed roms several times and still no problems, got mine off ebay brand new, can give u the link to the seller if you like

I've had mine since March and I have not experienced any freezes or reboots.
It really is a great piece of hardware. I'm not that fond of LGs software, but that can be solved with a custom ROM.

So, how do you get on Rusty, you seem like a very experienced XDA member.. how is the O2X treating you?
i am not the best guy to talk to . i just got the phone used yesterday for very cheap. i figured that if i dont like it, i can sell it for the same money or even make a little more and get the SGS2.
but so far. no crashes/reboots.. been more than 24 hours. using custom rom as well.
i got the phone for 300$. the stickers still on it. i figure if i decide to sell it. i wont lose at all..
so far. i am really loving the phone. i love the UI of LG. but its slow. it laggs. i wonder if there is a custom rom with the LG UI but smooth one.
right now i am on modaco. with 3000 quadrant. if i switch to google launcher. phone is smooth. if i switch to LG one, it laggs a little in the home screen. i tried the Tmobile version 2.3 on my optimus. its super smooth. but i cant make phone calls on it lol.
and i had a screen problem with the cayanogen rom. for some reason my screens dims and go bright on its own.
oh yeah. i also have a screen light leak/bleed. but it doesnt bother me much because the only way i can notice it if the room is dark and i have a black wallpaper.
Mine went slow once on stock, once isn't bad though. The froyo Rom does seem rushed in truth, (I have random battery drains from my Dialer which makes no sense) but I'm sure Gingerbread will have everything sorted.

Pretty well to be honest. I use CM7 nighties (I bought the phone specifically because it was going to be supported by them) so I cannot expect a bug free experience at this early stage.
I am enjoying it though, I came from a Nexus One that had bugger all internal storage and a poor digitizer, so proper multi-touch and 1.5GB spare for apps is fantastic.
The IPS screen is great if you can overlook the associated backlight bleed (it's not just the 2X, look at iOS devices as well, same thing), the GPS chip is excellent, I can get locks in place that my N1 couldn't.
The stock ROM is turd, frankly. It's fast, until you install something, then it becomes unusable for a bit until it's finished with the app... quality coding
fine
i have my lg optimus 2x now for over a month, no problems here.
i stil have the stock rom.
first v10a. no problem
later v10b. no problem
I have had 2 O2x now for litle over a month
one of them has had BSOD and restarts randomly - the other had none, atleast for the first month - but these past days this one has now also rebooted a couple of times.
Both are completely stock - not rooted and not using any custom roms.
Only using a different launcher which do help make the BSOD and Reboots less often.

I been over there as well. Most of the problems on the SGS 2 are either software or can be solved with apps. My O2X had so many problems that I could never use the phone and wifi at the same time. Bleeding, constant reboots/freezes crashes even with Custom ROMs. Since Im in afghanistan now I need a phone that will work not just when it feels like it. I will say that when the O2X was working it was a sweet phone. I just dont see the same problems with the SGS2 and Samsung tends to be better in the service side instead of LG leaving us pissing in the wind waiting for a "possible update" that might fix things or not.
guess i´m a lucky guy, too!
i have no crashes/reboots and absolutely NO backlight bleeding
Mine is also working properly.

I kinda feel like AT&T, LG and Google have all but abandoned this device. It's an AMAZING piece of hardware, I sure hope they give it the attention it deserves!
You're correct, it did feel abandoned.
I'm scarcely back to wanting to trade mine again, so much as to get an HTC.
But still, I guess its cause there's no ROM's I'm interested in. This my first device.
I'm not getting the best treatment from this brick.

In addition, all we really need to find is a 920h baseband that has our bands in it to flash. I'm using a Brazilian p920h baseband with no issues. ICS is on the way in CM9, life is good for the O3D/Thrill crowd ATM. Oh, and hate to be the party pooper, but this should have been in Q&A.

I believe that you will still have to change basebands for whatever he produces so it still won't be any good for me.
we will have to change basebands yes if you want gb that is just one of the steps. until we get an official release thats the way it goes. you are able to flash gb and froyo basebands so if you dont like the gb baseband you can go back to froyo no problem. flashing the baseband isnt that difficult just extra steps in the process. also dont get discouraged stick it out with this phone, a bunch of people left because of no devs well, look at things now, we have seen 2-3 or more new roms in less than a week we have people working on kernels we have tekahuna improving his OC modules we have cm9 on the way. this phone has brand new top of the line tech in it so when we get all the kinks worked out you are going to want this phone.

yeh i agree to some degree. used to anyway. since this is the only phone with the tri-dual business i figured its just a sleeper waiting to wake up. my gf just got the galaxy s 2. i went there to play around with it and man it was dissapointing to b honest. it was THIN! i mean REAL thin. which is super nice. but not if its rly light. it felt like it was made in china out of rly thin plywood. now that aside, the speed. it was good....to b honest, it was just as good as our thrills. i couldnt tell the diff at all. only diff was that my thrill was able to load stuff waaaaaaaaay faster lol. it took her like a good 10 seconds+ to load up market or even search for smthn. (yeh i know thats cuz of the t-mobile connection, but still....prty big fail). and just in general phone looked like it had less to offer. i was rly worried about getting the thrill and not the galaxy s 2 but since i got to play with it, i can safely say, it is not as good. especially since my thrill is keeping up with it when its still a sleeper with old froyo. now the super amoled screen....lol i dont like it....no joke. when u look at it in the dark and the screen is black lets say...like ur gonna watch smthn on utube and the video is loading....the black screen looks like its been painted on top of an illuminating light and u can see all the streaks and its rly lame. besides that, i rly couldnt tell the diff. maybe it was slightly more crisp but thats all. u cant see sht in direct sunlight so who cares.
im sticking it out with the thrill for sure. even tho galaxy has way more dev, i got a feeling its not gonna b as good as the thrill. this phone has way less fame than it should have. but thats whats gonna make the handful of thrill owners awsome, when the phone finally wakes up after gb.
I have heard December 9th will be the date for the release. I cannot disclose where I got this info but hopefully it will be true.

Agreed... except the sgs2 is much faster and smoother with a dev rom.. I made a similiar rom for it and my phone flies at 1.4 oc stable... when gb att comes out I should be able to do same for thrill specially with bedwa making kernels... it isn't that far behind sg2 in performance.

I can see what you mean considering you are talking about the t-mobile version of the SGS2 which as far as I recall made the screen bigger and also switched out the CPU. Now if you are talking about the AT&T version it is a totally different game. The screen looks WAY better on the AT&T version because they didn't stretch the screen to 4.5" and the CPU/GPU until Quad-Core chips come out is at the moment second to none (Exynos as opposed to T-Mobile's Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S3 Processor with 1.5 GHz dual-core CPUs). Also note that they changed the Processor on the New Skyrocket as well and also stretched the screen which makes it look like crap. Super Amoled + on Anything other than 4.3" and below Really badly needed to increase resolution.

I just have a feeling if nothing is announced tomorrow on any mobile websites then it won't be happening on the 9th.
i used it today and its def not worth it. Screen looks the same. It was actually a little slow and idk i prefer the amaze a lot more. Switch isnt worth it
Esp since ics our phone feels faster than the one s which is sad
even tho with roms itll be faster
I tried out the one s today and its a fantastic phone, but not having expandable store is a no go for me, not to mention the lack of a menu button is hard to get used to *seriously*
I do have to say its butter smooth and the sense 4.0 features are nice but not worth the switch for me.
Edit; was blown away by the quality of the screen though, perfect black scales and no lag

I played with the 1S today too. I was doing speed test to load certain pages and the Amaze kept up and at certain times was faster. The non-expandable storage is a negative for me too. The phone felt nice, screen was nice and all but like others have said, its not worth upgrading it from the Amaze.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?

Yeah... i dont know what the OP is talking about. must have been playing with a defect or something lmao.
never, ever judge a phone by a display model.. those phones are on 24/7 and pretty much never get rebooted (which you need to do every once in a while on android).
the screen on the one s is FAR superior than the amaze screen. talking about colors, viewing angles, and visible outdoors.

I just did a full upgrade with TMO.... I initially wanted the One X but TMO US doesn't carry it. And none of my lines qualify for any upgrade, but TMO US was very nice and gave me a courtesy full upgrade I took the plunge.....
Now I have both Amaze in ICS and One S. And my Amaze is 2 weeks old since I had them replace it when I dropped it.
I'll post comparisons once I get the One S. For the courtesy and full upgrade price, I was not able to resist the urge.
But in no way am I letting go of the Amaze, it's such an awesome phone especially now we have ICS leaked out.

Now im asking myself if it is normal, cause i just have three screens in use and just two widgets (original from sense) in use.
It's just not as fluid as i wished it would be. I reseted the phone, and als already wiped everything.
i would really apreciate any help or tip, or if somebody could post his experience.
thanks

It's just not as fluid as i wished it would be. I reseted the phone, and als already wiped everything.
i would really apreciate any help or tip, or if somebody could post his experience.
thanks

Hello thats strange i even have a heavy live wall paper and absolutly no lag.....
0 lag here, on anything that I've done on this phone,
Bit of a pain but you could try a wipe? I have had no lag at all when moving through home screens.
Don't expect it to be lag free out of the box until a few OTA's. HTC one x had more than five ota updates and ever since JB which came after 6 months it's been super fluid.

No homescreen lag for me, either, and I have plenty of widgets as well as the built-in Weather Live Wallpaper. I've seen the occasional in-app lag, but Sense has been surprisingly fluid.
So your n4 had less lag?
If anything after you flash a custom ROM I'd put money on these little issues being resolved

Yeah, the nexus 4 was less laggy ist not that its always laggy but some times the screens react a lttle to late.
But can it be an hardware issue? Cause everything else just works fine and its hard to get one.
Heres a short vid so you can imagine what i mean.
Had this phone for more than 2 months now and never had any lag

Could anyone post a short vid to compare, cause i really think about returning it to amazon..
This phone has no lag ..... Been using it since April 20th.

Already wiped the device twice, but didn't help, still laggy while swiping through the screens.Sometimes more sometimes less. I dont even use the Batterysafe mode.
I see your phone was searching for network, this may caused your "lag"

There will be some minor lags here and there.. this isn't a light aosp Rom that's 250mb or less. Sense is over a gig in size. Far from light. Be patient and 4.2.2 aosp will come eventually.

its even like this in airplane mode, i really dont know if to wait for the next Ota or to send it back, cause the scrolling through the screens reminds me if the galaxy s3 times.

No lag at all, did you copy all your data directly from your nexus to your one? Could be that something that's either been restored from there or titanium is playing merry havoc with your shiney new phone. Try cleaning up your internal memory and try to avoid restoring anything and see if the problem persists, then restore things one thing at a time til you find the culprit.

first of all i want to thank you all for your quick answers, im really thankfull for that.
I havent restored anything from my nexus, a i wrote above the device was even wiped twice and i have just installed maybe ten applications from the store. im just worried cause everybody writes that there is absolutly no lag, but i defenetly feel one.
And one more question, is your gallery app also so lagy while scrolling through the pics?
And there where some images. and songs from Htc before i wiped everything, can anybody tell me how to restore them?
t-mobile stock everthing here. (1.27)
i noticed it too.
Especially when scrolling around tapatalk, htc one is noticeably laggier than nexus 4. disappointing.
Hello, dear great community.
I have a question, i know there were many topics about this issue, but i don't know, usual methods like clearing cache doesn't work.
I have an S3 mini, on which i use Maclaw Kitkat, which is pretty good except for some minor bugs. Just like any other android devices i've had, after some time it starts working really slow, like, when someone is calling me, it takes 6-7 seconds to only turn the screen on, and this is absolutely frustrating. As much as i love android, at performance, it's garbage.
I don't know what to do, as i said, clearing cache doesn't do much, i don't have 12312312 apps installed, my homescreen is empty, for the same puirpose i want to fix this issue, i want a fast phone.
Maybe it's something i've missed after reading some topics? I don't know.
Sorry if i broke any rule, but didn't know what to do, i love my S3 mini, and i love android, but this lag makes me hate both of them.

Try using greenify and hibernate your running background apps and clear your junk files periodically

It didn't help, my homescreen took 1 minute to load, around 15 seconds to open the drawer... i feel like i will smash this phone...
As much as i hate apple and their products i think i will return to iphones, i had android devices mostly, got tired of the same lag, got a cheap iphone 3gs, was the fastest phone i had.... then i got this and i feel ripped....

An iPhone 3Gs running iOS 6 is damn slow. Apple has the same problem.

It worked fast, alot faster than my s3 mini... unfortunately... I had around 50 apps installed on that phone... I had iOS 6.1.3. I mostly changed it because of a pretty poor camera and because i had to 'just boot' with redsn0w everytime i wanted to turn it on...

Rooting on Android is still better than jailbreaking on iOS. Oh well, it's your choice which device you're going to use.

Agree on that, if i will get an iphone i will get a neverlocked one, so i never encounter any problems with jailbreaking, it's the worst thing on the planet. But i am pissed because i love android overall, and i was happy when i got my s3 mini...
Anyone tried 'seeder' ?

Stock de-bloated (updated ANB1) firmware (still) beats any custom rom (for I8190/N) in battery life and fluidity (bug free). Furthermore the I8190 might officially get KitKat.
