[Q] 3G Data only seems to work with certain applications - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, just got my SGS and really love it. However there seems to be a certain weird problem that totally ruins my use of the phone.
Just to mention that i've already searched the web for similar problems but didnt find anything useful.
On WiFi, everything works perfect. (Gmail, other pre-installed email app, Browser, Youtube, Facebook by Facebook, Facebook for S!, Syncs with everything, you name it!)
On 3G however, i can only get the browser and build-in email client to work. (and that cute little Accuweather widget to refresh) While these are working, for some strange reason all the other apps (GMAIL, Youtube, Facebook for facebook, Syncing) dont recognise a network connection.
Isn't it weird for some to be working and others not to be working at the same time?
Well thats the main problem, tried everything, limiting only to 2G, factory reset etc. Is there a possible solution? Thank you in advance, keep up the good work.
+problem: Facebook for Samsung works in both 3g and Wifi but does not load any pics whatsoever!.... anyone's help will be much appreciated

Bump for same problem with my unlocked ATRIX. Did you ever get it working?

which IM for yahoo, msn do you use?

Hi,
So far I couldn't find any yahoo or msn messenger for android. Is there any?
Which IM for yahoo, msn do you use ?
Is there any IM for android which connects directly to the yahoo/msn server (unlike meboo, ebuddy)?
Is there any messenger which supports multi gmail accounts?
Thanks in advance.
Hi there
Try Truphone or Fring
ebuddy works great
Hi Msn is working flawlessly for me, although i am unsure if it supports yahoo messenger.
There is also an app called NimBuzz which supports windows live, yahoo, AIM, Skype, Facebook, Gtalk, My space, ICQ.. and soo much more...
Check it out.. i use it mostly for Skype Calls but everything else seems to work amazing when i first set it up.
There are also several apps that work without extra Server.
I'm using ICQ and MSN. I can't say anything about yahoo...
By far the best App I have tested was IM+. Too sad it costs way too much...
The built-in t-mobile app also connects directly. I used it for several days. works fine (ICQ is the same protocol as AIM)
but now I'm on Meebo. I like to have the same History on Phone and PC.
the "IM" app that comes on CM roms (i believe its the T-Mobile one) is a great app that works great, only downside is on Rogers network you cannot connect as it will try and verify by sim. You will need to be on wifi to use "IM" but i still love this app
i also use Nimbuzz but have had some issues as of late with it dropping (could be the phone too )
hi yahoo
there is a hi yahoo app. works well for me, but right now i go back & forth between meebo & ebuddy.
I just dun like the way all these messenger design. These company can make better layout, fonts and feature for Iphone and why not Android? Just disappointed.
IM+ (the conversation layout very very bad. Words too small can't change font and stupid color)
Palringo (All the buddy(contact) squeeze into one. Very difficult to locate friend)
Meebo ( I hate to login meebo inorder to use MSN/Yahoo, buddy layout very bad)
MSN Droid (Not bad so far. Only support MSN and no yahoo.)
ebuddy ( Another one need ebuddy account. conversation fonts too small)
Android IM ( So far so good but will disconnect if phone go to sleep. Maybe its design to work with SMS)
You guys forgot BuddyMob
Plus: You can choose your own Messenger Picture, MultiLogin (connect from your homecomputer AND your Android Phone the same time) is supported, swipe function is included
Minus: No Ring for MSN, no Send Files, no smileys
Used it for months, now i'm looking for something new
eBuddy works for me... careful with gtalk though - it sets your status to an ad.
On the MyTouch 3G there is an almost sort of half-decent app which includes MSN, Yahoo and I think it is AIM. At least you get to see your buddies online and it is over the data network, but as mentioned already you have to be on wi-fi to sign in unless you are on T-Mobile's data network as the phone uses only T-Mo's SIM info (and wifi) to let you sign in. The question is, is there a way to tweak the app so that you can use any carrier and still sign in from the data on your SIM, and how can this be done? I am nearly sure it can be. Can anyone help?
I've been using meebo without any problems.
anyone knows which IM app can do group chats? like in a conversation with more than 2 person? I know ebuddy can't do that... it's really frustrating!
I've found that when using ANY im program it's hard NOT to get dc'd. I have settled on using msn live which is free from the marketplace.it still dc's every now and then but at least now I can have a direct shortcut to msn on my desktop instead of just a general IM shortcut. hope this helps.
I found a Windows Live app (plainly called MESSENGER) on Android Market. It is quite good indeed! I installed it on my Hero and MyTouch 3G After a few days it would not function on the Hero - only force close whenever I launched the app. I uninstalled it from the Hero thereafter. Still works on my MyTouch 3G though. I cannot find it on Android Market anymore - not sure why not.
I use QQ!!!!!!Hoho!!
msn has an official app called MSN Droid, its pretty sick
and they were saying something about a yahoo one coming out soon
try nimbuzz

stock mail prog crashing

I have a stock HTC one
all I have done is freeze some of the apps as per the list on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681729
Sadly I left the email setup to last ( having set up all the contacts, apps etc) and the mail prog seems to be crashing.
I could just manage to set one account at and received a test email, which I could reply to but that's it.
when I open it it is incredibly slow and I cant get the menu button to work , the back button also doesn't work.
eventually I get a message saying that mail has stopped working.
I will try enabling everything and see if that makes it work but I thought I would ask here if anyone had experienced such problems or knew of a cure
thanks
That list contains about 50 apps, including mail...

Not an answer to your question but try Aqua mail.
Much better than k9 or stock.
Hi
Am I ended up doing a hard reset
Added mail accounts and all was fine
Disabled bloat, checked mail, all good.
Added games, checked all good.
Added apps. Checked all good.
That was 4 hours ago and it's happening again
Any ideas
Thanks
disabling apps may result to other apps crashing because it may be dependent on that app.
I was quite careful about what apps ive disabled and am pretty sure that is not whats causing it ,I checked it after I disabled the apps and it worked fine (for a few hours)
The only thing I can think of is one of the apps I downloaded. But I am hesitant to think its that as all the apps were installed on my sensation and the mail was fine
The only apps that required the "non authorised apps" warning were mm tracker and quick office pro so I have disabled them and restarted the phone. I then e mail tried the mail prog
still no joy
the thing is even if I enable all the disabled apps it still doesn't work
I know that I can get another app but that doesn't help my ocd about setting the phone up
after rebooting and loading apps I found that DW contacts was causing the crash
hard reset and re load of all apps except dw and all is good

[Q] Weird data connection problem

Hello!
I am using Idea 3G data conenction (Mumbai, India). I am able to browse on the internet or access/download apps from the playstore. My problem is that some specific apps such as Whatsapp and Twitter are not able to connect to the internet while some like Yahoomail and Facebook can. I have tried all the options given in this list - http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/22014642.
Please help! Twitter is manageable but difficult to survive without Whatsapp! :crying:

Whatsapp, FB Messenger Not Working

Hi folks ,i am facing a strange issue with my Sprint HTC one, my IM apps like whatsapp, BBM, FB Messenger App do not connect to mobile data rest of the apps work fine even pages open in browsers. All apps work flawlessly when connected to WiFi. I can't figure out what really the issue is so please help me out. i Have flashed diffrent ROMs(Currently using Viper 6.10) but the issue remains the same.

GMail notifications - there aren't any!

I think I've tried everything on YouTube or via Google search.
Can anybody give me any tips to get Gmail notifications on my P40 Pro+ please?
Has anybody got it to work?
(As an aside, Messenger, WhatApp and text all work just fine.)
Hey there!
Install BlueMail client works great with Gmail and other email accounts.
Or outlook
Tried BlueMail & Outlook but no notifications on my Pro+
Any special settings or just normal install?
A million thanks to all who replied or tried to help!
It worked, I have GMail, I have notifications, my P40Pro+ is complete with GMS, all the Google Apps I need, and everything is working!
I can't believe after all I've tried and the Huwaei Email App was all I needed
I hope it solves the notifications issue for everyone else too.
Mind sharing how you got everything to work?

No problem, it's nice to be able to help somebody else for a change!
First up, I tried to use the phone as intended, but Outlook was useless for GMail & Google Calendar, plus there was a banking APP I needed for work that didn't play nice.
So I started with a couple of different YouTube videos, but the one that worked best was by RedSkull - https://youtu.be/uOjfSWPTWsI
I'm not super technical, and it took me three goes but I got there and everything worked, except GMail with no notifications and no incoming mail unless I opened the APP.
After that, it was lots of different attempts based on comments from other people (like use BlueMail App - but it didn't work for me) and then somebody said the Huawei App was great and worked for them - hey presto - all good to go.
I have to say it's an amazing phone and well worth the work to get it to this stage.
Thx for the info worked on 1st try. Now i'm gonna test the email stuff.
1st time = you know what you're doing and more techie than me :fingers-crossed:
Hi, just don´t know if I understand it well, but I´m using the Huawei mail native app, with my gmail account, and everithing works fine, even notifications. I still don´t felt the need to install google services.

Yes the Huawei Mail App works fine with GMail - it just took me a while to find that out!
If you can work without Google Services then brilliant - I couldn't, I had a couple of work issues and ended up needing it, but either way it's an amazing phone. I love it, and the camera.... untouchable
