[PATCH] Gmail 2.2.1 Update (For any Froyo ROM)

Had a request for a Gmail 2.2.1 update zip. The 8/1 Froyo leak and other ROMs include 2.2, so this is an upgrade. Nothing fancy but here it is for anyone who wants an ez-mode upgrade:

Just apply the zip as usual. It literally only replaces /system/app/Gmail.apk.

Is this the same as the one in the 8/1 leak? If not, what's the difference between it and this?

8/1 leak includes 2.2, not 2.2.1. So this one is newer.

IMO 2.2.1 just runs smoother (ie. no lag when you hit the "show pictures" button) and I like that the reply button is right at the top.

I installed it and now when my phone starts up i get this error.
I cant open Gmail either

Clear out your old Gmail data cache and restart Gmail. It will re-sync and everything should be fine.

wonderful. was waiting for this newer fixed version.. I liked it's look and feel when the 7/27 leak had come out.. too bad that was one buggy and so had to be replaced back then..This one works like a charm.

this has been bugging the hell out of my. Every email I send out, a '0' and line break is added to the top of the message. Like if I were to emails someone "Hey whats up", it would be:

dude.. this problem was acknowledged and fixed several times over!.. there is even a couple of threads devoted to it... I believe installing the Gmail from this thread should solve your problem.

You've got two options to fix this. First and preferred, upgrade to a ROM based on the 8/1 leak. There are several ROMs to choose from which you can find in this forum.
Alternatively, if you just want a quick fix for most of the bugs associated with the 7/27 leak, use my patch, which addresses most of the glaring bugs with that build:

The problem with the 2.2.1 is that some folks have seen garbage, and of course the 0 in emails sent out....
LOVE to see this fixed, because I thought it looked a little nicer, but still just running Gmail.apk 2.2

I'm pretty sure if you apply the original patch then the update this will not happen. I don't have this problem.

I tried to update gmail to 2.2.1 (with zip file thru recovery and just pushing the gmail.apk) on my nexus one running frf91 deodexed but with no luck.

[Q] Installation problems with SPB shell 3D on CM9?

Has anyone successfully installed SPB Shell on the CM9 (ICS)? It installed correctly and attempts to start, but then leaves me in a black screen. Note that it didn't freeze the touchpad because I can still access all the on screen buttons on the bottom... Anyway, I was hoping someone else ran into the same problem or found a solution. Thanks in advance!

same here i want to use those widget, i dont want to install many widget apps

SPB shell uses hardware accel...which is not yet working on ICS based roms like CM9..you guys have to wait for some time to have someone fix it..
EDIT: the update works fine now on ICS..

They released an update today, it works fine now.

Sooo.... It works after applying the update? very confusing. I'll go update then report back!
UPDATE: Yeah... NO. The update did not fix the problem. Same problem occurs. I suppose patience is the only option..

I just installed it a few minutes ago and it works fine...

[Q] Can't install Foursquare in CM 7.2. Fix?

Yesterday I flashed CM 7.2 (latest nightly build) in my Galaxy Mini. Everything's running perfect, except for Foursquare app, which I had earlier and can't install now. Market says it's incompatible with the phone (it obviously isn't); doesn't appear when searching for it through Google Play.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

download fsq apk first from here :

install it normally, or if this can't be installed too then,
use root explorer, copy it into system/app and set permissions into rw-r--r--

I am also using the latest cm7. I installed foursquare successfully from market.may I ask you one thing. Which gapps you are using the latest on 11-5 -12 or old one?.if using the latest just change to old gapps and try.I was also having the same problem in installing Google Googles when using the new gapps

I`m gonna upload it in a few minutes, it`s not force closeing, but there is a bug, so will need to fix that first.

When unlocking, the screen is black and it switches to pin. Most probably some permission problem.

Didn`t managed to solve the blackscreen. You can choose the Face Unlock option. It will detect your face.
Problems after installing this:
-Camera app will dissapear (solved by reinstalling the rom)
-Maybe some google apps will dissapear too (solved by reinstalling gapps, but most probably the face unlock will dissapear)
During script modification, had a problem, that when the wifi is off, when starting camera it says "Can`t connect to the camera", also Face Unlock wont start. When wifi is enabled, then the camera is working fine, but face unlock is force closeing.
Luckily i`ve saved this partially working version. Maybe somebody will manage to make it work completely

I have just installed a new ROM in my Milestone for first time and used CyanogenMod 9.1.0d
Everything looks amazing but I noticed my soft home button doesn't work AT ALL, camera button isn't working either, I cant see the lock screen as other versions, can't open Google Play app and can't synchronize my Google account so I don't have access to my phone contacts
Have someone else happened (and fixed) this problems??

i had every possible rom for this device (910d right now) and never had button problems
did you follow http://www.mrmuh.com/2012/01/update-a-motorola-milestone-from-motorola-firmware-to-cyanogenmod-7/ ?
if not use this guide replace cm7 with cm9.1.0d
100% working

I fixed the problem already but forgot to erase this trend... the problem was after wipe I installed CM9 and Gapps together and got that problem... after wiping all again I installed CM9 rebooted and installed Gapps and worked fine.
Still have no idea what that bug ever happened but i fixed :laugh:
But I changed CM9 to CM7 cause my battery was dropping from 100 to 0 in 4 hours, not good if I'm too much time out of home. Thanks anyway for your interest

Hello, @IGGYVIP I'm having problems with my A853 again, installed the CM7 as always but now i can't get through the MOTOROLA logo... can't make the phone to wake up, and I was looking for the tutorial you mentioned (same I used before) but seems MrMuh's webside is out.
by any case, do you have that tutorial? I wanna start from the ground and reinstall the 2ndboot and the CM7 ... or maybe you have a better solution
