Format internal sd from ADB linux captivate - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i can push files to the devices but i cant pull from the internal sd so i wanted to know how to format the internal sd

[bump]
Would like to know this too.

This might seem pretty basic, and it's really obvious to me at least...
Wouldn't you plug the phone in via usb and select mount usb, and then just use fdisk/mkfs/fsck?
You wouldn't even need to use adb for that

App2sd with more than one card?

I installed Cyanogen´s last version, and did a ext3 partition in my sd card...
All work fine, and now I have apps in sd card, BUT...when I try to change the card for another one, the phone hangs....
I can´t activate or deactivate sd card like I did when no app2sd before change it, because the option is disabled in settings and secondary sdcard is show with all ext3 space...
I have a lot of multimedia files and need more than one sd card, so... is not possible to change the sd card when you configured the phone for app2sd?

because Cm rom automatically move your app, app-private, lost+found & dalvik-cache to your SD and when you boot your phone with a different SD it will definitely freeze because you don't have you dalvik-cache in ext partition
its a chicked & egg problem. Does anybody know if the phone can be connected to a computer when in recovery mode? Because if it can't, the phone needs to be wiped everytime the SD card goes bad or you need to replace it for some reason.
If recovery console can be connected to the computer, then the card can be backed up to a folder on the computer and restored back into another card.

You can use adb from JF's or Cyanogen's recovery, or you can mount your card manually through the recovery console:
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
best thing to do is this while in recovery, use adb and type
Code:
adb shell mount /system/sd/
adb pull /system/sd/ system_sd_backup
turn off phone, change sd card, go back into recovery, then
Code:
adb shell mount /system/sd/
adb push system_sd_backup /system/sd/

These are fired from the computer, right? NVM. figured that. Thanks for the command. A nudge in the right direction is always very helpful! Now I know, I will not be in dark if my SD card gives up on me.
Similar Problem
I've got a similar problem...
My SD card has corrupted a couple of times, so I've ordered a new one. However, I've now got round to setting up App2sd and all is working well. A few questions about swapping cards around:
Am I right in thinking that I can use the above method (adb shell commands) to copy the relevant info across to the new SD card? Assumably after it's been partitioned.
I was thinking that a Nanodroid backup and restore would do the trick - not so convinced now...?

Possible to Unmount SD card?

Hi all.
Is it possible to unmount and remove an SD card when using CM v4.0.2 with a partitioned SD card, and CM v4.0.2 is running A2SD, while the phone is on? I just can't seem to figure it out. The unmount button is "greyed out".
If so, please let me know how.
Thank you.
i have the exact same problem....my pc wont even recognize the phone anymore....i'm trying to get the usb pop up on the phones notifications n nuttin happens
As I am tinkering, I think it has to do with the A2SD that the rom supports.
Obviously we cant be removing a card that the system is using.
I can still mount when I plug into my PC, but most/if not all(haven't tested all) the apps wont run, I get a "Please Check Your SD card" message.
I would just like to hear from someone more experienced than me(newb) to back up what I am thinking to be true.
Thanks
It's kinda weird, you can't unmount the card because you'll have issues, but on linux it mounts ext too, so you can modify the contents while the phone is running. Although whenever I've tried it's caused loops ><
@Teflon - Try using usb mode in recovery: go to the console and type to mount "ums_enable" and "ums_disable" to unmount.
Hi!
I would like to be able to remove the SD card from my phone.
I can't do it right now b/c I have Apps on SD configuration.
Is it possible to kill all running applications and to unmount the SD card?
I don't see any reason why not, but has anyone tried it already?
Thanks
The safest method imho would be to 'power off' the phone, remove card, boot phone. Cumbersome - maybe - but it's a trade-off with the excellent App2Sd.
I believe it is swap that is not allowing you to unmount/ mount to the computer, try disabling swapper and then try or download and burn an ubuntu live cd and use that to acess it, I can make changes to my ext3 partion while it is mounted in ubuntu. But I never had a problem mounting untill I started using swap which I would have to turn off to mount
Born, must of us have our dalvik-cache running off our ext partion so even if you killed all apps you could still corrupt your card

How can i mount the sd card and connect it to my pc?

Im looking for a way to access the files on my sd card through the shell in the bootloader, i ask this becasue i dont have a compatible card reader and i need to copy some files onto the card to flash as my android wont even boot up.
I tried mounting he sd card
mount sdcard
but this just mounts the card on the android, i need it to be mounted on my system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Sud0x3
Is ums_enable what you are looking for?
I gave it a shot, didnt work but i just got myself a new reader.

[Q] Nook Color Honeycomb usb SD card mount?

Hi all,
I have installed Honeycomb on Nook Color working like a charm. Added Market to it using adb skd push through usb cable. When running stock nook I could plug usb cable to computer and internal drive would mount and I could copy files to nook from computer.
Now running honeycomb on SD card when I connect the use the drives show up on compture but they do not mount. Again I was able to connect and push files from computer to nook via adb commands. On my samsung captivate I was having similar problem until I figure out that there was a message in status bar that I would pull down click on and would mount SD cards. Don't seem to have that in honeycomb when connecting usb to computer.
Is there a way that can mount sd card open up in windows explorer and drag and drop files from compture to nook running honeycomb? The android's USB connected notification seems to missing on honeycomb on nookcolor
Any Ideas
Thanks
Greg
I think it's not mounting because you're running from the SDcard. If the card is in use by the system I'm pretty sure android won't let it mount but I could be wrong as I'm not familiar with honeycomb. You could always try pushing the files with adb.
Code:
adb push *filename*
Ok thanks, I will give it a try in mean time. I must be missing something because on phone it i mount internal and external drive. I will have to brush up on the adb command line.
Nook Color USB Mass Storage utility - Mount any partition to your PC
There was a post form samuelhalff in which he developed a NookColorUMS-0.3b.apk that mounts drive. so I will try tonight but in mean time I am not sure of cli adb commands that I should use. where do I push it to on the nook, I am running honeycomb from SD cards
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
I'm running HC from the SD card, and the best way to mount drives is using samuelhalff's mounting utility (since the SD card is partitioned and it supports this!). I believe you must have Superuser available to use it, so below are the links you need to both the app/instructions for the app and for gaining superuser on HC.
mounting app

Superuser

I've got this working, and can confirm it works like a champ!
Sweeet will give it a try, I read something that sound was not working on HC but the little I have played around with it appears that I am getting some sound. I want to load a mp4 on it see how it plays.
Thanks again
This application was quite easy to use.
1. Plug USB in Nook and connect to PC
2. Open NookColorUMS.
3. Select "Mount Media"
4. Nook Pops up on PC.
Thanks a lot
This app finally made my nook into a full android tablet.

SD card Blank or has unsupported filesystem.

hello every one,
today i had fased a strange prob. which i want to share with u all.
i am having google nexus 1 with cynogenmod 7 installed.
and having sandisk 8gb microsd card. and suddenly today morning it says that "SD card Blank or has unsupported filesystem." i took out my card and mount on my computer and take the entire backup of the data and format it. and incert it but still having the same prob. nothing happen, then i search on net i found on other threads that download the sd card formater and try it. i also tried the same but nothing happen, then on other thread it was mention that try to run chkdsk on computer, with /x comment.. i also done same but still prob. is same.
i am having 3 more micro sd cards of different brands and of different size i also tried them but giving same prob.
nothing happening.
i also open the terminal emulition in my phone and type the commmand mount -a but it says that /etc/fstab not exist.
tell me what i do ? even i am not able to do anything ...
Wow--that is tough to figure out and i am not good at this level of TS.
Sounds like you lost the mount point. It is in etc/fstab
Do you have a backup rom on pc that you can extract etc/fstab from or can you install that rom thru adb with no sd card--
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-a-rom-to-an-android-phone-device-without-sd-card/
Can you mount card thru adb--
adb shell
mount /sdcard
exit
Did you use full ersase on and size adj on when you formatted card.
Can you format and partition card outside of phone.
Also, when formatting and wiping for flashing new rom you may want to get Temasek's Format zips that include boot and system wipes.

Someone will have a better and more accurate answer soon--
