[Q] No 3G/H/Edge/Etc. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone has lost it's data connection completely. The WiFi works but no other data connection works. Mobile Connect is enabled in the settings, and "Use 2g only" is disabled.
When I restart the phone, 3G and H will connect for a few seconds and then the icon will completely disappear.
I have the "Extended Controls" widget installed and when I enable data connection through that it says "Data Network APN enabled" and the 3G and H icon show up and disappear again.
I have no way to use internet on my phone Someone please help!
Here is all my phone info:
Under phone status : Mobile network type = UMTS

Reflash the same rom over what you have.
Do you have any program set to disable the APN? -- Sounds like you do, and check the APN settings list what they say.

My APN for T-Mobile US (APN: epc.tmobile.com) is:
No proxy
No port
Username is none
Server is just one "*"
MMS Proxy <not set>
MMS Port <not set>
MCC 310
MNC 260
Authentication type none
APN type <not set>

Type *#*#4636#*#* on your dial pad. A menu will open once you press dial.choose phone info
Scroll down to the drop and select wdcma preferred.scroll down press the menu button and select enable data.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

I have done that before but the problem persisted. I believe it was the ROM causing the problem because when I reflashed the same ROM it continued to have the problem. However the data connection got fixed after flashing a completely different ROM.
Thank you for your help though, I really appreciate it.

Droid4 with ICS on Telus in Canada how-to

I know there are plenty of global-network related threads on here, but the majority of them were made back before the OTA update and reference the complicated stuff while leaving out the more basic stuff, like *where* to set your APN.
I've got a standard Telus SIM card (from my old Milestone, which was just barely hanging on in a few vital areas... proximity sensor flakes out, headphone jack has been repaired three times, GPS no longer works...) and just trimmed it with scissors based on this guide: w w w . techradar . com /news/mobile-computing/tablets/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-or-iphone-4-micro-sim-681020 (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...) I'll note that I marked which corner of the SIM was "rounded off" before cutting, so I wouldn't lose track. (just make a little mark at the edge of the "chip" contacts in that corner.)
Opening the back of the battery cover without the original opener tool isn't as nice as it could be, but I've successfully used staples and a mechanical pencil tip.
One you put in the SIM and power up the device, you'll get an "unknown SIM" error, but it should still start fine.
After I got through the setup stuff, my phone worked for dialing and receiving calls, but no data. here's what I had to do:
[menu]->[system settings]->[wireless and networks: more...]->[mobile networks]
Make sure [Data Enabled] is checked.
tap [global data roaming access] and set it to [allow access for all trips]
Scroll down to "GSM/UMTS settings" and tap [Access Point Names]
tap the [menu] button and [new APN]
Use these values: (from: androidforums dot com /hero-support-troubleshooting/45005-mobile-network-apn-settings.html#post348959)
Code:
Name: TELUS SP
APN: sp dot telus dot c o m (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...)

MNC: 220 (this is already filled)
Authentication Type: <Not set>
APN type: default,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified (Haven't tried changing this yet.)
tap [menu] and [save], data should be working!
Take a look at my Rogers thread, it will help you get tethering up and running!

Recently connected an ICS Verizon Droid 4 to Telus but am now getting -100 dBm signal both inside and outside the house. Old Milestone never had any signal issues, whatsoever, inside or outside.
I created the Telus APN using the correct settings, which got me H data. Then, I went through the network settings, manually chose Telus, manual set on GSM/UMTS (not global), and set to UMTS only for network. Still only 1-2 bars max, always.
Any ideas or settings to change?

I very rarely see more than 2 bars. My old Motorola xprt was this way until it received an update than the signal meter was more accurate, I think it something you just live with.
Question have you tried to setup call fowarding? It doesn't allow me say I am roaming.

Thanks for the heads up on the bars. As for call forwarding, I haven't attempted to set that up as I haven't needed it.

I plan to purchase this phone and based on the specs I've seen it should have no trouble on the new Telus/SaskTel network here in Saskatchewan (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Just a quick question for those of you who have the phone, can you or do you have to root this phone to delete the unnecessary bloatware that comes on the phone?
Thanks in advance

Droid 4 LTE APN settings

I was messing around trying to get LTE to work again and I am hoping it is simply an APN fix. Can someone give me the correct APN settings for Verizon?

stock jellybean?
think it's unlikely an apn issue
my full apn file made with APN Backup & Restore
apn app needs to be moved to /system/pri-app if you want to restore my apns-20140822120801.xml (remove .txt from file name)
from Slim 4.4 build 7.0
Just restored your apns but it only picks up 3G
open dialer
dial
Code:
*#*#4636#*#*
(when you press the last *, testing menu will open)
select phone information
scroll down to
set prefered network type
is LTE/CDMA/EvDo selected?
Just checked and LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) was what it was on. LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) is the closest.
It seems that every time the APN will reset to EHRPD - Verizon Internet. If I try to select the LTE internet option it doesn't even pick up a data signal, and then goes back to EHRPD.
im using CM11 M9 and i have my network type set to
CDMA+LTE/EvDo
my APN is
LTE - Verizon Internet
Name: LTE - Verizon internet
APN: VZWINTERNET
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
username: not set
password: not set
server: not set
MMSC: not set
MMS proxy: not set

APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: enabled (greyed out with box checked)
Bearer: LTE
MVNO type: none
MVNO value: not set
a few notes for me: whenever i try to switch to CDMA/EvDo auto (3g) it doesnt connect to data until i turn on wifi or set airplane mode for at least 30 minutes then re-enable the radio. if the connection drops for whatever reason i have to redo this step so im better off leaving LTE on all the time because its way more reliable than 3g which is really weird in my opinion and im not sure if its the rom that causes the problem since i installed cm11 as soon as i got this phone
So should I try to set that APN and then put it in airplane mode for an hour or so?

SM-T815Y OTA 6.0.1 update killed mms

This is solved.
The Phone Carrier found the solution and sent me a text.
As many others in many other places suspect, It is an APN issue. To me it looks like Samsung has made some assumptions about what the APN setting should be for different carriers and simply loads them in as part of the update. The sets the Network Operators to select automatically. Sometime this only gets close enough that the phone only makes call but not SMS or mms. sometimes SMS works too but many time the mms setting fail.
This is the USA solution for those using Straight Talk
Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names -->> you should already have a Straight Talk
If you don't you will have to call the Tech Line for the complete list as this maybe somewhat device specific.
Change the following.
Name: Straight Talk
APN: RESELLER
PROXY: not set
PORT: not set
User name: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http: //mmsc .mobile.att.net
MMS PROXY: proxy mobile. att. net
MMS PORT: 80
MCC: 310
MNC410
AUTH TYPE: not set
MMS APN TYPE: default.mms.supl
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming: IPv4/IPv6
Ok,
I did the OTA Update to Build Number MMB29K.T815YDVU2BPG5 ,,, Baseband version T815YDVU2BPE5 and mms has died.
Cannot send. If I try it takes 15-20 minutes for it to fail and give the failed message.
If I am sent an mms I get a message showing a download arrow and when I tap it, it takes about 5 minutes to get the "DOWNLOAD FAILED" message.
Things I have tried:
Checked APN setting with carrier. ---- They were correct
Deleted all other APN's from the system. ---- >> No CHANGE
Set APN protocol(s) to IPv4/IPv6 (carrier said it would be OK) ---->> NO CHANGE
Set Chrome to be the DEFAULT BROWSER ----->> NO CHANGE
Tried it in SAFE MODE ----->> still no mms send
The above should have done the next one but still tried the next one.
Deleted ALL other apps that had mms permissions--->> NO CHANGE
Things I have not tried:
Complete reset. Research says sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it works for a few hours and then mms fails again. Really big hassle.
Trying to ROLL BACK. Nothing about this looks easy or something a person without pretty high level knowledge and skills and access to a really good computer should attempt. This is especially true since I have one of the more unusual versions. The SM-T815Y (GSM LTE with a SIM card) and none of the other variations that have full phone capability were supposed to be available in the USA. Info for any version that isn't GSM LTE is probably useless since the hardware will be different. I get no WARRANTY SERVICE from Samsung. Cannot even register it with them. To get the original OS I have to download from foreign sites with all the perils that involve.
Hoping some else has some ideas I haven't tried short of a master reset.

Cellular strength and throughput

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Razer Phone 2's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.

Had to call AT&T, especially since they picking RP2. As result:no results, I pretty much don't have LTE, and constant connection issues plus dropping service.

Yeah. I have a second SIM card that is for my work phone from AT&T and when I place it into the RP2 the same thing happens.
This might be an issue with the unlocked variant. :/
It's still not a deal breaker hahaha

Thanks for the suggestion, however when I enter this sequence on the phone app it just clears itself and does not bring up anything.
I also tried hitting the call button after I type the sequence and an error pops up stating that there is a connection problem and it is an invalid MMI code.
I'll look up online to see what it means and update you all if I find anything.

It's one of the magic dialer codes thats supposed to work on most Androids I believe. It's a sort of service menu. Razer seems to have disabled most of them in the production builds. *#06# is the only one I've found so far which still works (probably more out of necessity though)

Alright this is what I have done so far and it looks promising!
1. Entered the code *#*#4636#*#* in the stock phone app on the dial
- from here I changed the following setting in the phone information tab
-- Set Preferred Network Type > LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS
-- Clicked on the top right corner (3 Dots) > Select Radio Band > United States
2. Now I also went to the AT&T Support site for phones that are not provided by them and they recommend to make some changes on the phone's network settings as well. Here is the Link to the Changes that need to be made...

Here is a brief summary of what I have on my end:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Access Point Names

-- The Parameters should be as follows:

--- APN: NXTGENPHONE
--- Proxy: Not Set
--- Port: Not Set
--- Username: Not Set

As of now, I am able to get LTE+ and in the past 3 to 4 hours my signal has not dropped at all!
I hope this helps you all
What happens here is pretty weird. LTE on band 20 works like a charm. LTE+ is good. LTE on band 3 doesn't work.
It is connected to network, I have good signal and I can easily get the list of connected towers, but I have no data and so I cannot surf the internet.
I tried to edit the build.prop by disabling CDMA and enabling LTE on GSM, I changed the default network. Still, I got no luck.
Anyone experiencing something similar?

I would suggest a reboot after the settings are placed
Hello everyone. So if we are experiencing weak or dropped signals with the Razer Phone 2, what preferred network type should one use that is with Verizon. I already contacted them to change my profile to a CDMA less account so I can receive texts and voice mails.
try (*#800#) it should bring up a warning.. enter.. you'll see a list of ...... choose fist option (logkit) you want to find (function switch) select it.... then you will be able to enable voice over LTE and Wi-Fi calling has other options also..
I hate to be too much of a pain in the rear, what would you do to setup APNs for straight talk? It won't let me even name the APN so it won't let me save it. Let alone add any other information.

Nexus 6 on Visible Wireless (Verizon Network), Inetnet working, no calls msg yet.

Hi Can anyone give some tips getting the nexus 6 working on Visible Wireless. It supports Volt and Verizon and wifi calling. I have gotten internet working. My phone is a stock verizon release unrooted. I have add the other APNs with an app because verizon locked the add and edit of some of the APN data. I cant believe you guys filter the vtext.com URL for users posting apns.
Here are the APNs I know of for visible in case someone had corrections.

Maybe the hidden menu can tell you something: *#*#4636#*#*
VoLTE and WiFi-calling require some hidden settings that are not supposed to be changed by the user.
Here is a thread about changing them on OnePlus, but I don't think you can do it on a Nexus: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...volte-vowifi-german-carriers-t3817542/page141
Also, some phone companies check the phone model, and only enable it on the models they support. Maybe customer support can unblock for you.
Volte is on in that menu and works on regular verizon fine. Also I have tried LTE only mode since visible is supposedly only 4G. If anyone has gotten more than data working with Visible Wireless on the NEXUS 6 please let me know. I did have flash in and out of airplane mode after the reboot to get data to work. Thanks for reading my post and replying. I will look into the 801 code more. Also the http vtext.com servlests mms is missing on two of the APNs from my original post due to the forum restrictions for new posters so sorry that piece is missnig for anyone testing.

I've tried very hard, including on multiple ROMs including stock without success. On the stock ROM I was able to add the VSBLINTERNET APN manually and use data, but never calls. If desperate you could always get a VoIP provider (Google Voice didn't seem to work for some reason.)
