I have Frankin Twiz installed with the xcaliburinhand kernel.
Recently I tried to add the stock music player from JH7 to system/app through Android Commander. I also updated the application info in the applications tab.
Then I disconnected the phone from the computer and when I tried to wake up the device by pressing the power button, the screen didn't switch on.
So I connected the device again and deleted the recently copied files (MusicPlayer.apk and MusicPlayer.odex), then disconnected and tried to switch on the screen again.
After several tries it worked but then ADW Launcher forcely closed again and again.
So I had to uninstall it through Android Commander. When I recovered the phone control I noticed that every app that I installed got a force close. I had to restore / reinstall all the apps.
Now everything seems to be working fine, but I fear I corrupted something.
Should I reinstall Frankin Twiz?.

To be safe I would. But you could wait a couple days and see if you notice anything.

Had to do it. Triying to open apps from the market also caused a force close.
Who knows what other things were wrong.
So all this mess was caused by copying the stock music player to system/app???.

Use any option it gives you to uninstall the app, then reinstall it.
Similar issue.
I am having a similar issue.
I installed Toggle Settings (Donut) on my G1 (CM 4.2.5 I'm not using apps2SD) and then decided to uninstall it. Now when I go to the market and my downloads it shows that I have Toggle settings installed. The problem is that I don't and it gives me no options to do anything (open and uninstall are grayed out). Other apps install and uninstall normally with the market updating their status correctly. I don't know what to do to correct this. If you know how to remedy this, please help me.
I apologize if this is an inappropriate place to post this but I serched and this was the closest topic to my problem that I found.
Try finding it in the app-private folder or if its in any of yours apps as a .zip file. If so, back it up and delete it from the phone. see if that resolves the issue. if not try deleting the market cache

Thanks for replying... It's not in any of my other apps and I've tried deleting the market cache (and deleting the market cache and power cycling the phone) and that isn't working. Where is (or should be) the app-private folder? I'm not finding that folder.
I'm starting to feel like my only hope is an update being put out for the app and then hopefully I can download that and go from there.

app-private should be in the same folder as app
Had a similar problem
I wiped my phone and did a frech Cyan 4.2.5 install to help clear a problem with Gmail. I used backup for root users to get all my apps back, but it left a couple out - leaving me in the same situation you guys are in - can't install/uninstall from the market as the buttons are greyed out, but it's not actually on your phone.
i eventually stumbled over a solution of sorts when i reverted back to a themeless 4.2.5 - for me flashing the update again sorted out my market data and allowed me to install the missing apps again. either that, or go into a nandroided backup, extract the apks and manually push them to your current setup - buttons are magically no longer greyed out.
Thanks guys.
Thanks for your guys assistance.
I found another solution that worked. I had one of my coworkers download Astro File browser and then the Toggle settings app. I just backed up his toggle settings with the built in apps manager in Astro and then put his memory card in my phone and restored toggle settings with Astro. Then I went to the market and uninstalled toggle settings through the market and bingo no more ghost of Toggle settings problem. Thanks again for your assistance.
After upgrading to 5.0.5.2, WaveSecure crashes on startup and the Market crashes when I try to download something with "The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I've tried re-installing 5.0.5.2, but it's still not working.
Did you wipe? Or maybe fix uid mismatches (or whatever it is called) in recovery?
I'm having the same issue with Power Manager when it runs on startup. Just after inserting the pin code I get an alert to force close it. It kinda sucks actually...
Cherry Rplayer (which was the only radio app I could find a liked) crashes immediately when I launch it and 'A Online Radio' crashes when I first start my phone.
60 people have viewed my post and only got like one or two replies. No one will tell me are they using the latest cynogen mod and the same thing happens to them or not? Is there anything that can be done? Is this normal? Will those apps ever work if I keep the cynogen mod?
oh and spent the whole day trying to get my iTunes to the music player. Thought it was going to be fairly easy what with programs like doubleTwist - I looked into it before I got the phone - well holy crap what a nightmare!! Besides 19 of my songs being DRM protected, doubleTwist doesnt even work that great! Even with help from programs like Mp3tag songs are still not right with a few songs showing random cover art from other songs and a whole bunch of the songs saying 'unknown artist' even though the mp3 files are clearly tagged with the right song info!!!!!!!

I had to wipe in order to successfully instal the ROM. As for uid mismatches (or whatever it is called)- is that an option in recovery? What is that for what does that do? Will I have to reflash the ROM if I use it or will I loose in any data?
Wish everyone could be a little more informative to the newbies...
I've searched but cant find any info about apps force-closing, why that happens, or what can be done to correct the problem...
I am having the exact same problem with the Market FCs every time I try to install an app. I am currently troubleshooting the issue and I'm running CM 5.0.5.
So far I've..
re-flashed Google Apps add-on -> no luck
wiped Dalvik-cache -> no luck
factory/data reset then restore -> no luck
UPDATE: fix apk uid-mismatches cleared up the problem. Thanks jsapp! Boot into recovery (I'm using Amon v1.7), select Other and you should see the option.
Thanks jsapp and travon802!!! fix apk uid-mismatches now I have streaming radio again!!

For others who've experienced this, are you using MyBackup to backup/restore apps?
Only had four or five Apps but yeah I used my backup. I think it didn't backup a few of them and had to redownload from the market...
The reason I ask is because I can reproduce this issue of the Market FC'ing by restoring any app using MyBackup with the root option turned on.
Hello everybody,
After flashing my phone with Temasek ROM RC1-87, i got problem with Car Mode. I can not really remove it, because ether i could not find it with file manager and there is no such app in application menu, not even in titanium backup with superuser rights.
It pop up very often, when i am answering my call, even walking. Just random pop up in phone top bar. Then i need to slide it down and lick it to close. I could not even turn it on, because there is no such app in my phone, but somehow it turns on. It is very annoying, because if i answer my phone call and it pop up, then speaker turns on, or for example i am surfing the net and it pops up, when i click it to close my web browser closes.
Maybe someone have the same issue? How could i remove it for lifetime .. My phone is rooted and full wiped. I did all the wipes in CWM. I tried only Temasek's ROM, so maybe it's it fault? Thank you for your answers.
P.s. I had the same problem in my stock kernel/rom, the only difference was that then the app showed up in screen and i needed to click EXIT. I get rid of it uninstalling with titanium back up back then. Now it does not work.
I don't have that problem mate. Sorry.
But seriously, how could that be even possible. There is no car home/mode*.apk, or i can not find it, there is no such app in titanium backup, there is no such app in applications menu and so on... Maybe there is some FULL WIPE or something..
Tried to use System Toolbox app, could not find any Car app.. I noticed before on other ROM that it appeared after installing gapps! Please someone, let me know how to get rid of that evil app
yes there is. goto applications "running services", its not under running but its under "ALL". u goto it and u cannot click stop / etc. cause its not running. atleast on mine anyway. .87
So how should i get rid of it?
If you are using my 2.3.7 gapps, there are 2 apks that you need to remove from /system/app in order to remove Car Home. They are as follows:-
CarHomeGoogle.apk
CarHomeLauncher.apk
Try finding it and delete it. If you still couldn't find it, I can make a simple flashable zip for you to remove the above 2 files from /system/app
Gimme a page if u need more help.
Cheers
I tried Super Manager,System Toolbox, stock file manager, non of them show that there are such files like CarHomeGoogle.apk or CarHomeLauncher.apk. I am looking at system/app/. Is that even possible? Could you make a zip for me? Oh and i did not install any gapps, just wiped my phone, installed your rom and that was it.
ive got it there. can see it in ALL (*not running)
i can browse to system/apps/ theres 2 there. cannot delete.
says error deleting file (permisions or something) what program can definatley delete these files?
Hi everyone,
My home button and the "swipe from the top" has disappeared since my last restart. I really have no idea what's happened and now I am using the apps called "Button Savior" to return the home screen.Maybe thid was because I have deleted some system files from system/data/data/com.android. providers.settings. I have restarted several times and it didn't work for my device. Now its really inconvenient to use the Kindle Fire HD. My current software version is 7.1.13. Could you guys help me to solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance.
maybe pull the rom in the development section and see if you can get the deleted files from it?
the only time my framework dissapeared was when i was trying to install the play store. i got it back by renaming a couple google framework apk's in the system folder and restarting...
Hi adiliyo,
How can I pull the Rom in the development section? As I have deleted many system files, I think I am in a much bigger trouble than yours.

if you can't get the individual files, maybe reflashing that rom will fix your problems
This happened to me, and some other folks. Look for a thread asking about how to view/run settings.
Anyway, some fixes mentioned were to turn off notifications for Gmail - hard to do if you can't get to settings, though.
What worked for me was to try and side-load an application - copy an APK file to the 'downloads' folder on your KFHD via a connected computer using the windows file explorer, or ADB - and then install the APK. In my case by clicking on it using a file manager. The KFHD told me that I would have to enable foreign application installs to finish the install of the side-loaded APK, and took me to that portion of settings that dealt with that. In that section was the 'Reset to Factory Defaults' button.
I pressed the reset button, and got everything back. Earlier applications (google play store) that I hadn't un-installed in an attempt to fix the problem were still there. Super User was intact. I downloaded & installed everything again, and all is working as it should be.
Until Amazon comes clean with this walking ad-server, details on how to modify it without introducing issues are going to be sketchy . It's just our lot in life, if you'll pardon. I appreciate having super user access, and all the Google apps I love to use, but what's really required is the ability to modify the boot loader. Until that's available, it's going to be try until it fails, and then scramble to recover.
Nice HW, but limited by Amazon's vision of the customers.

It works!!!! all the missing parts have come back. the Go launcher EX has saved in Cloud.
solution
download an app called my android, open the app go to my apps and find the settings app then go to device and then go to factory reset. its the only way I found to access settings when drop down didn't work. after resetting to factory my buttons all came back after doing the tooltip for startup
What worked for me on my AF tablet was to uninstall all 4 Google APK files, then uninstall the Launcher Hijack. The tablet swipe down and home button both came back for me. I then re-installed the Google APKs, but didn't re-install Launcher Hijack. Tablet works fine, functions are normal, just have to put up with seeing the default Amazon screen first before tapping the Nova Launcher icon to get to my custom screen, a minor inconvenience, and I didn't have to do a factory reset.
Hi,
I just recently rooted my Xperia Z, I was in the process of installing a modification to the software buttons off of one the users on this site. Unfortunately superuser was denying superuser access to root explorer while I was trying to copy the file over to the system folder.I was unsuccessful at installing the UI modification.
I decided to turn it off and on again to see if that would work; upon turning on my phone I realized that I no longer had any software buttons at the bottom (no home button, no back button... nothing) While it looks nice, as soon as I enter an app I'm stuck as I can't "back-up" out of it.
I checked out my apps in setting.
1# System UI was showing as 0.00b. As in it's gone!
2# I checked root checker, and apparently my device is no longer rooted; also none of my rooted apps are working so I'm incline to believe it.
I have a back up of the System UI on my computer, but no way of putting it on the phone as I'm not rooted. I have tried to re-root using the same method as I have before but it's not working. (It's the "Easy Rooting Toolkit for Xperia Z SO-02E, and it just wont recognize the device; USB drivers are working fine as companion works and I can browse the device using explorer :?)
--
I'd really appreciate it if someone could suggest some solutions to get System UI back on there; even some way to reset the device if possibel!
Thansk
Checked it out again, the System UI is there it seems.
I had a look on Google Play at the application I was last using before my phone pulled a wobbly; I should have looked at the first review (1 star):
Root Browser Lite - JRUMMY APPS INC
"does not work properly on my sony"
"I can browse the file system. But then I tried to create a new folder which failed. It totally screwed up my phone. Now the whole phone is very slow and apps often crash"
- Jost Joller
So this app has obviously screwed up my system,.

Sound's like you didn't root properly, so flash a stock ftf and start from scratch.
